We have been to eat at this pub five times in the last couple of years. Three really good meals, two terrible ones. Wonder if they have two different chefs, the standard was so very very different? Very warm welcome by bar and waiting staff on all visits. Interesting menu, with specials like corn beef hash (delicious), faggots, liver, sole meunière. However, on our last visit, the steak was grisly, the sole swimming in oil, and the pie was a mean triangle that was hard and dry round the edges. On a previous visit it had been a delicious whole pie. One evening, the chicken wrapped in ham in a gravy was fantastic, the next time the ham was in bits haphazardly stuck on, and the gravy pure Worcester sauce. As a previous local reviewer commented, inconsistent.

Jan 2018 was our last visit,so was hoping for an improvement. The ingredients and dishes were delicious my wife had the ribeye steak, couple of £ over priced but cooked to how she wanted, salad turned up when asked for ,!! ?? Came with a so called pepper corn sauce that was not used as it was horrible.(gravy with acidic pepper in it) I had a meatball stuffed with cheese ,tagliatelle in a tomato sauce delicious ,but let down again having to ask for the garlic bread.stated on the menu,so all in all great attempt but let down by attention to detail and service. Mind boggles, Couple of drinks nocked off the bill as I relayed the concerns. Try again in another year ,see if any good, but would return more often if constant.

The pub is traditional, cosy and dogs welcome, staff are local and friendly, the bar has a good selection of beers, ales, wines and spirits and the food is proper homemade in taste and portions. I highly recommend the faggots and lemon meringue roulade if it's available. We'll definitely be back!

We popped in in the off chance and were lucky to get a table for Sunday lunch. It was absolutely lovely. I had beef which was tender and tasty and my husband had chicken which he was very pleased with. A lot of perfectly cooked vegetables to accompany and a jug of gravy. Nice busy atmosphere with families and drinkers at the bar as well as the restaurant tables. It’s just slightly lacking in traditional old charm and a bit draughty by the windows because they’re lovely old mullions, hence four stars but for the food it was five star and I’m looking forward to going back. We noticed a fantastic gin selection too with lots of unusual choices.

Visited for the first time with friends who live in the village and were keen to share their local secret. Lovely open fire in the bar area which is dog friendly and very welcoming staff. Some traditional meals available with a great list of specials. Generous portion size and all dishes cooked and presented to a very high standard for a pub. I had the halibut which was on the specials board and it was a delicious potion of fish. Meat all comes from the local butcher apparently and my husband said his steak was the best he had had in a long time. There was not a large variety of vegetarian dishes but the special sounded really interesting.

We decided to walk from Crewkerne to The Kings Head after reading a positive review in the local rag. It was Easter Day and nice and warm. We arrived around 12:30pm and people were having a hearty Sunday Lunch. Whilst ordering the drinks I enquired about a table and we were advised that they were full. So we took our drinks and went into the sun trap garden. After about 5 minutes the bar man came out and advised me that we could still eat, if we so wished, after about 10 minutes. We accepted the offer without any regret. The menu was limited to the usual Sunday lunches and whilst we were outside he took our order. Sure enough after about 10 minutes he returned to advise that the table was ready.

It's a very nice pub, clean and private, not too noisy. We were 4 generations of a family, with 3 eating pub food. The starters of spicy parsnip soup and calamari bided well. The main courses included fried haddock, cod en papillote and ribeye steak. All were of top quality, very well cooked. The deserts looked great, also. There was only one problem, the service was very slow indeed, annoyingly so. Perhaps it should be expected on a Tuesday night, but it became annoying.

We have been in the habit of going out for a pub lunch on Tuesdays and tried the Kings Head recently. It was disappointing. The scampi and chips included 5 scampi which didn't seem very generous and were overcooked, the chips were OK but the peas were overcooked and dry. The tartare sauce was nice however. The ice cream choice was very basic and so I chose a rhubarb crumble. The rhubarb part was uneatable because it was too tart. On mentioning this to the waitress I was met with a shrug. The offer of some sugar would have been a more reasonable reaction! Altogether it compared unfavourably with other local pubs. We won't be going again.

Just reflecting on my first evening meal at the KH. I have had a nice lunch and been in for a beer a few times but this time we went for dinner. It was really good. The baked Camembert starter was incredible but needed one slice extra of bread to make the most of the cheese. Our mains were sausage, mash and veg and my wife had vegetable lasagne off the specials board. My meal in particular was stunning. The local sausages were some of the finest I have had and the mash and vegetables were also top notch. It was also reasonably priced we thought. The real ale and cider selection here is really good and we are enjoying the variety. Having been there a few times the beers change regularly which is really nice. Tonight, perhaps the only thing that we would have changed was a little music. It was quiet and there are virtually no soft furnishings so every noise you make travels! That said, it is a nice country pub and the last thing I want is a beat box or slot machine!

Game of table tennis out side was also a nice touch - Barry Elswood is hopeless after a few beers though so I would recommend this tactic if you plan on playing him.

The pub had no ambiance and the food was poor, fish & chips consisted of a very thin piece of fish which was overcooked inside a flabby batter and there were a couple of bones. Peas were hard and the boiled potatoes were unadorned. Homemade tartar sauce should have been finer. To be fair, when asked how it was I told the waitress that I was disappointed and why and I wasn't charged for the meal.
