The Kings Head in Epping Forest

We visited as a large family group on 29th Sept. On arrival the restaurant felt very cold. This was initially raised with the waitress who said there's nothing they can do to adjust the temperature. The waitress took our drinks order, which we needed to chase at least 2 times to enquire where our drinks were, they arrived around 50 minutes after we gave the order. When we asked why it was taking so long we were told they only had 1 member of staff serving drinks. Our food arrived approximately 2 hours after we ordered it. Some of us on the table received our food a good 10 - 15 minutes before others in our group received them. The vegetable sides with the roast dinners arrived around 10 minutes after the mains arrived. When the veg sides arrived they were stone cold. The roast potatoes were very poor, and clearly had been reheated. The table next to us who arrived after us had finished their main course before we had drinks delivered. Really poor. To put all this into context, nobody ordered starters and just to get drinks and have our main course took around 3 hours. The sides were cold and elements of the main course were clearly reheated, and some members of our group received their meals 15 minutes after others. The manager was very helpful and did what she could with each complaint that we raised. In the end all our food was given to us for free. If the food wasn't free this would've been a one star review.

All four of us really enjoyed our meal here on Friday night. We all ate something completely different and everything was perfect. Service was good and attentive.

Chalk and Cheese visit, last time we dined here felt like we were in the way, this time felt very welcome and received great friendly service. Did not recognise any of the staff so possibly a new crew. but they were 1st class today 4/9. Food was also very good and well presented. Congratulations on making experience for my dads 85th Birthday so good.

Came for a few drinks; well looked after by Richard, a manager from another pub. Polite, welcoming. I will be coming back.

4 of us went for Sunday lunch, 3 had the signature burger and said it was delicious I had the turkey roast and was disappointed the potatoes were awful and the vegetables cold

A nice lunch with friendly staff. 11 of us visited the Kings Head for lunch. Food good and service very good with Louise looking after us. A relaxing time and friendly staff team looking after all our food and drink requirements. Thank you.

My daughter and I attended for a late lunch on 01.07.24 There was one member of wait staff on for the bar and restaurant Our food arrived and my daughters spicy chicken dish was cold We asked for this to be heated I then ate my lunch in it’s entirety before hers was brought back in a warm state The manager was apparently doing paperwork in the corner of the bar area This is a local pub/restaurant and I am extremely disappointed with the service we received

We first ordered drinks on the app. A green tea a Doombar and a glass of rose. For food, we ordered fish and chips with bread and butter, chicken curry, and a steak sandwich with fries and a side salad. The green tea and doombar were both unavailable. We then sorted different drinks. The food then arrived and was not the best at all. The fish was dry bordering on burnt. The bread and butter came as toast and butter. Which I returned and asked from bread and butter but that was dry. The chicken curry was the vegan curry with a chicken breast sat on top. The steak sandwich was cold and the side salad never appeared. On asking for this we were told we did not order. I checked receipt and it was on it so asked for a refund on that. I contacted vintage inns and had a reply saying the bread is served as toasted (it should then state this on menu) and they still said we never ordered the side salad and indeed the chicken curry is the vegan that they add chicken on the top of. Would not recommend in a month of Sundays.

Food was good, service not the best, staff were not as friendly as I would have liked. Felt like we were an inconvenience.

Charming historic pub with loads of character, friendly staff, great food, and lovely atmosphere. Will definitely come back here.
