The Kings Head in Powys

Went for Sunday lunch with family. The food was excellent in fact it was the best Sunday lunch I can remember having in a very long time. The 2 young lads that served us were also excellent. We all had a really lovely afternoon

This is one of the worst meals I have ever had. The ladies sent back the steak pie. It looked grey and unappetising and there was little sign of pastry. What pastry there was was covered in thick gravy and was soggy. We ordered lasagne in it's place which was at least edible. The men ordered steak which was better but tough for ribeye. Very disappointing. Wine, which cost £20, was very cheap aussi shiraz which was pretty well undrinkable. I would never go there again.

Myself and my colleague came here twice for dinner excellent food and service .The staff were excellent too .If you are near by say Welshpool come and visit you won’t regret it .5star from me

My elderly mum and I were in the area and decided to try The Kings Head, Guilsfield, and I'm so glad we did - what a hidden gem! It's a lovely traditional country pub, only 30 minutes from Shrewsbury just across the Welsh border. My mum had the Southern Fried Chicken with chips and peas, and I had the special of Chicken Kebabs, chips and salad (pictured). Very generous portions and very tasty. The service was very good. We stayed inside but the beer garden looked big with a kids play area. Would definitely recommend and will go back when next in the area.

We popped in for Saturday dinner. We'd not been for a couple of years as things were not going well in the kitchens at that time. Delighted to say that the 'new' chef provides excellent food, and the staff were lovely. The only downside is that chef is going to be on holiday next month when we wanted to take a group there for dinner (perhaps next year!).

Made to feel very welcome in this pub, the staff member (sorry I didn't catch your name!) could not do anymore service wise, if I'm ever in the area again this will be the first place I eat.

If I hadn't read the reviews on here I wouldn't have made a specific effort to go to The Kings Head. As it was, it was hard to recognise it, on a Saturday afternoon, as the same place the reviews are talking about. No salt and pepper chips, for a start. Disappointing. The service wasn't bad, but in a virtually empty pub, a bit slow. The beer was good, and the barman knew his business. But the basics were just a bit.... disappointing? From the reviews the place should have been buzzing, (the pub up the road was), but the experience, the ambiance, and the food, were all a bit bland. My grandson like the kids meal with the sausages, but then he doesn't mind deep fried sausages not from a butcher. If this is a free pub rescued by a couple, they've either taken their eyes off the ball, or are moving on to something/somewhere else.

Absolutely fantastic Sunday roast had the roast beef with homemade Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese and leeks with loads more choice of veg piping hot proper gravy, so much beef cooked to perfection ...followed by homemade summer fruit cheesecake and ice cream definitely recommend service was fast and efficient

Had both Sunday Roast & an evening meal here. Sunday Roast was plentiful & the meat excellent. Hunters Chicken evening was lovely - lots of meat & tasty. The sausages were a bit disappointing - not butchers sausages. The atmosphere was good & we enjoyed visiting. Everyone was very friendly.

Attentive and helpful staff when we stopped for Sunday lunch. Two real ales as well as the other drinks. Delocious, home cooked food. My beef Sunday lunch was wonderful, with thick slices of beef and excellent quantity and quality of veg. Try the apple crumble.... delicious.

Had lunch today, very welcoming warm atmosphere. Excellent wine and beer. Our food was great, all very well cooked. Husband said the garlic mushrooms starter was the best he's ever had and the rib eye steak was cooked to perfection.

The King's Head is easily my favourite place to eat and drink it feels like going home both staff and customers are super friendly for a guy in a wheelchair no problems ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best Public House in Guilsfield with ample seating, large screen for sporting fixtures, pool table, jukebox and dartboard. Separate restaurant area with a wide food selection catering for breakfast, lunch and dinner both in house or take away. Large carpark and family friendly beer garden with children play area all on the flat for easy access. Live entertainment periodically adding to the atmosphere. Worth a visit anytime of year! Card payments accepted

Had a great evening. The staff were brilliant,friendly and helpful and full of fun. The food was great pub grub and the recommended salt and pepper fries were very tasty. (Be aware there are jalapeños in these fries) The ale was well kept and tasty and the price was very competitive. If we come this way again we will definitely pop in.

An amazing friendly little pub with a great outdoor area. Three of us ride out on a Saturday and starving by the time we finish about lunch time. We always head for 'The Kings Head" as we know the food is guaranteed not to fail and over deliver every time The beer lines and glasses are always fresh and clean and never a scrap on out plates after a well deserved lunch. Massive thank you to a most wonderful friendly team with ace waitresses. Highlight of our week.

Great pub... great service... Lovely beer and and food was fantastic. We popped in for a light lunch and a bit of liquid refreshment. Staff very welcoming not a bad word to say about this place. We have attached to this review our receipt as we were totally impressed with the price of our refreshments and lunch we will definitely be back again when we are in the area.

Had the most delicious meal at The kings head Guilsfield this evening, my husband and I were both tempted by the same thing, the Kings "dirty burger" and it did not disappoint! It was huge! 2 chunky gourmet burgers, topped with crispy bacon, nachos, onion rings and nacho cheese sauce 😋 lovely friendly atmosphere, highly recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Over the years we have had many meals here for many different occasions and have always had a good experience, but last night was very different. The menu was very basic, the service was poor and the atmosphere was cold and sterile. Never have I seen this restaurant so quiet on the weekend.

Only had drinks , a good atmosphere and nice clientele reasonable prices well worth a visit

Wonderful village pub 🍻 A must stop visit for a drink or to grab something to eat! A traditional pub with lots of seating area inside and outside. Lovely beer garden in Summer. Food is delicious throughout the week and in particular on a Sunday. Adam and Louise cant do enough for you when you visit, and are so accommodating!

This place is just a dream, fantastic, comfortable and clean rooms. Very friend staff and absolutely stunning food. Never disappointed with our visits here 😍

We visited the pub with the intention of having dinner. The landlady was very pleasant but informed us they didn't do dinner on a Monday even though their Google entry and the sign outside the pub said they did. They need to make these changes to stop confusion.

Popped in ad hoc on mid week lunchtime for first time, friendly greeting, good atmosphere, nice beer. Sat in nice garden and had lunch. Great food reasonably priced, great service - lovely afternoon- wish this was my local , thank you

I arranged a 70th birthday party for my wife at home in Guilsfield on the 25th June 2022,and after scouring the internet chose Louise at the Kings Head Guilsfield to deal with all of the catering. All I can say is that she was quite FANTASTIC. I chose the platinum menu from her various choices and ordered approximately 22 of these. I also ordered quite a few bottles of Prosecco, hired some wine glasses and she provided some "metal wine containers" to keep the wine cool during the afternoon. Since there were a number of children in attendance I suggested everything should arrive at the house at about 1pm. Not only did Louise and a "helper" arrive promptly; THEY removed all of the food from their transport and placed the plates and other receptacles on the tables. Particularly impressive was the fact that Louise made 2 journeys to and from the house to collect the food and other items and to set them out for the party to begin when, I believe, normally delivery is NOT included in any of her "options" and further there was no need for my wife and I to "scrub" any of the plates etc provided before they were collected the next morning promptly at 10am as previously arranged. The food provided was quite delicious and was of a sensible mix between vegetarian and other types and we received glowing comments upon it during the whole of the afternoon and early evening. I suspect anybody preparing for a party always suffers some kind of concern that everything will go well. This was never the case from the very first time I contacted Louise and indeed my initial face to face contact with her was on the morning of the party, all other communications being dealt with via email. To sum up, I would not hesitate to use her assistance and skills in the future and without any doubt would recommend them to anybody. Charles S Leaman Guilsfield.

I’m sure there is maybe 1000 better Kings Heads to eat at in the UK. The service was great however the food was average, I have had thicker pieces of ham than my steak I ordered. The playground was a nice touch and probably the highlight of this establishment.

Great welcome and very good quality beers and lagers available. Visited with a large number of travelling CBFC supporters. Despite being very busy the service was really quick and friendly.

We had family visiting so we booked a table for 2:30pm, our table was ready for us on time. Some ordered beef some had chicken both were excellent. The meat, veg & gravey were hot and plentiful. The staff in the bar were fantastic as were the waitresses in the dining room, nothing was too much trouble. After a few minutes of being served our food we were asked if everything was ok with our meals and it was. Everyone including children enjoyed the entire experience but wished we had left room for pudding. A solid 10/10

Right from the moment of getting in touch with The Kings Head to organise a baby shower event it was pleasant from the offset. The Afternoon Tea was very good with various savoury and sweet options and excellent value for money. Staff were very helpful and always making sure we were all happy and the tea and coffee pots were being topped up regularly. We had a great afternoon, thank you ⭐️

As a local person we are pleased to have a nice place on our doorstep. The staff are always polite and professional. Today we had the Sunday lunch. The meat cooked to perfection very succulent. A god choice of vegetables and large yirkshire pud.I particularly liked the parsnips which were pureed. Generous portions. Well done Louise and the restaurant staff.

Having just had Sunday Dinner, we won't be returning. No where near the standard of food that we experienced at the establishment previously. Vegetables were tough, no seasoning, tasted bland, Yorkshire puddings were burnt. Best part of the meal was the beef. Starters lacked any thought, just box standard items. Did not wait to order any desserts. Drinks were good. Staff were attentive and pleasant. Not worth the money.

Ordered a last minute take away tonight, it was absolutely gorgeous!! A very generous portion too! 😋 I had the chicken goujon burger with bbq sauce and skinny fries! It was piping hot and soooo tasty! We will 100% be returning ASAP! 🍴🍔🍟😋 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommended⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Had a lovely afternoon in the Kings Head!!! My daughter and I decided to go there for a bite to eat and a beer.The atmosphere was very welcoming and friendly.Very lucky to have this great pub on the doorstep.

The kings has always been a popular place for our family with tasty food, so we were looking forward to going back after lockdown. It’s a nice dining room and the staff were helpful but the waitress completely mixed up the order and didn’t seem to know how to deal with it when we pointed out the error. We ended up swapping parts of food between us to get it right. The vegetable crumble tasted like a few veggies in a packet cheese sauce. Another member had a very salty gammon and the steak pie was full of grissle. Menus were hand written on bits of paper which seemed a bit unprofessional. Overall OK but not likely to return.

We got there 20 minutes before they stopped cooking, after checking with the cook they were more than happy to let us order. All very friendly staff. Unfortunately the food wasn't a winner for us. We didn't enjoy it. Once again, the staff were all very lovely thought.

Stopped on our way home from South Wales. Food was great and service was quick. Had a small play area for kids, we couldn't use it as it was such a lovely hot day and didn't want the baby to burn. Would definitely come back again.

Fantastic Cask Ale, food was exceptional and good value. Staff were really friendly. Visited here two years ago and I’ve upped my rating as tonight’s welcome, food and attention from staff deserves it.

We do visit here quite abit when opportunity allows, due to being involved with guilsfield bowls club, my other half is involved with guilsfield young farmers, and its a generally lovely pub just to visit for a couple of hours, have a few drinks and if during the day, we would pop in and have a few games of pool. Staff are always so lovely, we have had food here once, absolutely beautiful and well worth it. Its lovely to see they have managed to make it through the pandemic and still be rolling. We havent been since the pandemic hit but will visit again soon

Wow! I thought food this low grade was a thing of the past. The second star was because the beer was good, but really I can't think of anything good to say...... The stone baked pizza menu was not stonebaked and used low grade ingredients. There were four of us in the party and none of us were impressed in the slightest with the cheap grde ingredients. On thecplus side the staff were pleasant. Won't be returning.

My first outing since COVID due to being high risk, me and my family felt very safe and welcomed, all staff were lovely and made sure to have a mask on at all times. Can’t fault the food! Me and my family all thoroughly enjoyed our Food and time spent at The kings head, everywhere was kept sanitised! Overall a great visit and we will definitely visit again!

Delicious food!!! Service was great. We chose to be seated in the garden area which was delightful. Would highly recommend!!

Sadly we were very disappointed by our visit. The food was definitely nothing to short about and it was outrageously understaffed with just one poor gorl trying to take orders, deliver food and drinks and take payments. If they are having difficulty getting staff then they will wear this poor young woman and have no staff. They have obviously made an effort to keep operative at this time so this was very sad and I'm sorry not to be more positive.

Fabulous meal and a great atmosphere.

Having just reopened after Covid lockdown, only being able to serve outdoors, we booked a table in a new covered area which has really smartened up & opened out the garden area. Plenty of choice on the menu, and the new management and staff were faultless. My cod and chips were lovely, my wife was equally happy with her scampi, and our son had the meat feast stone cooked pizza. All freshly made to a high standard, and it's a nice treat to have 'proper' chips; crispy on the outside, soft inside. Perfect! We'll definitely be back soon!

Pub recently taken over by new management team with a hard act to follow. This is our local so we know it well, we had Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago which was excellent!! Yesterday we went out for an evening meal we almost didn't book as it was a Tuesday, that would have been a mistake as they were fukky booked.The food was excellent as was the service & presentation, great value. All Covid rules were followed. Top Tip: Book early

Delicious freshly-cooked food and the beer was in superb condition too! Our party of 7 all thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the staff were brilliant, especially given the current CV-19 conditions. If we're ever in the area again we'll definitely look it up.

We decided as all the family were home for the weekend we would have an early Mother’s Day treat and we were not disappointed. We were given a warm welcome when we arrived and were shown to our table by one of the waitresses. The pub had a homely and welcoming feel. The premises was very clean and all the waitresses were very friendly and efficient. The menu was extensive but we choose the Sunday lunch offer. We were served very promptly after placing our orders and the food was well cooked and hot. The only criticism was that The soup did not have a home made feeling about it as it was a bit watery. Everyone left feeling well fed at the end of the meal. Will definitely go here again.

Came here on the 4th of Feb for a meal with my boyfriendThis is our 3rd time coming, and it was great once again. We don’t seem to mix things up, as we had the sirloin steak as usual, but as always it was cooked perfectly. The staff are very friendly, nothing seemed too much to ask. The pub opens up early on certain days, as my grandads bus gets to guilsfield earlier than they open. He is blind and goes on his own, so they open early and help him in every week. They are very thoughtful and we will always think of the Kings Head when we want to go for food.

We've just finished an absolutely top- notch Sunday lunch.Really couldn't fault anything about it. Lovely garlic mushroom starter, then fabulous turkey main course with dew m really delicious stuffing, perfect roast potatoes, and a gorgeous thick rich gravy. A good selection of vegetables, and a great amount of them too.Finished off with chocolate fudge cake with ice cream, and my wife had a really tasty baked choc+orange cheesecake with clotted cream. I couldn't recommend the Kings Head any higher. Excellent!
