The Kingfisher in East Hampshire

One of the best fish and chip shops in Alton and surrounding area. The batter on the fish is thin and crispy and the chips are cooked to perfection. Very nice owner and staff. Large Haddock and chips was enough for 2 people. £10.50. You won't find anywhere as good.

Visited Kingfisher for the first time in about a year and was once again blown away by the wonderful quality of the food and the welcome! Ordered 2 X large cod and a portion of chips to share. The cod portions were really generous (more like whale and chips), the batter was lovely and crispy and the cod was succulent with large flakes. The chips were delicious too! I was acknowledged as soon as I stepped in and as previously, the service was fabulous, professional and friendly. We wouldn't go anywhere else for fish and chips in Alton! Thank you Kingfisher!

We decided to have a family takeaway at the nearest place to our house and ordered online. Everything ready in 10 minutes and piping hot. All the food was excellent and the choice varied, we had Cod- sausage- pea fritters- fish cake- chicken burger and chicken poppers and of course chips. Use this takeaway you won’t be disappointed!!!!!

Situated on the Manor Estate which is a little away from central Alton, but if you have a car it is well worth the short drive to get great Fish & Chips

Had another great mini fish and chips today, not had a bad one since the new management and very good value.

Since reopening I have enjoyed every meal. Best chips in town, lovely service and great portion sizes.

Great food at last with the recent new owners. Nice fish and chips, Pie and chips, freshly cooked. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Its now back to a great standard all the time . The same as Sue and Dave. 10/10

Visited twice since it reopened in August and we think best fish and chips in Alton by a mile. All freshly cooked after you order. The Chips are amazing. Highly recommended

Waited 30 minutes. Over cooked chips and very dry. Sausage smelt off !!!! through it in the bin along with burger and chips. The service was really bad and just not good enough for the price they charge. We have tried kingfishers (new owners) three times. Never Again. Not just us they forgot to complete many other peoples orders, waste of time. We must comment that the original owners were very very good.

We had a lovely fish and chips freshly cooked and generous portions. Staff were very friendly, and served quickly. Will definitely be returning.

Order mucked up, then when put right, no refund offered as been charged for more expensive products. When got order home, the chicken was the most dried up piece of meat I have ever tried to eat. If I had not been so very hungry, I would have taken t straight back. Will NEVER use again.

Large chips more like small chips most was small crispy pieces Sausages over cooked Fishcake had small plastic all over Garlic mushrooms were foul tasted like washing up liquid Even forgot part of order when Calle. They said they didn’t get it though with order Only decent thing was the chicken fillets

We've been using this chippy for years. Since the new owners have taken over the food is of a poor quality. Had fish and chips from there. Chips are not fresh and have the bad green bits from potatoes in them. The fish was tasteless and a soggy batter dripping in oil. Also have had a battered sausage, the batter looked like it had just been coated in flour and fried. Very white batter. The sausage was horrible inside. In the end threw the sausage away. It's a shame this was the only good chippy in Alton, not now. Wouldn't recommend.

Have been using Kingfisher for many years,never disappointed,good chips,crispy battter,tasty curry sauce,decent sausages..well haven’t been in a little while and didn’t recognise any of the staff,then noticed different bags,thought perhaps they’d changed hands,I had chips& a large battered sausage & curry sauce,really not good guys,the battered sausage was anaemic looking and just not good quality so couldn’t eat that,curry sauce was horrible,chips ok,won’t be returning I’m afraid,such a shame as it was the best chippy around ☹️

I have used Kingfisher 4 times since the new owners took over. With the first lot of fish and chips the batter was rather gooey. However I thought I would give them another try and I haven't been disappointed. The batter is now crispy and the fish is cooked to perfection and the chips are yummy. Also tried a cheeseburger and that was as good as when Dave and family were there. Dave and Co were a hard act to follow, well done new owners for keeping up the the excellent standard with friendly service.

We always bought our fish and chips from here, travelling out of our way because the food was so good. It’s recently changed hands, this evening we bought our usual and we were really looking forward to our food ! Eeeerrrrr what’s happened it’s not nice at all.. mediocre chips and the sausages went in the bin! Fish tasted weird. Really disappointed . It’s the end of an era, we won’t be going there again.

We have been having our Friday night F&C here for many years and never been disappointed. The business is usually busy and everything is cooked to order.

I have been a customer for many years. I have tried all the local competition however they are not a patch on the quality of fish & chips you get from Kingfisher. I never mind the wait as your fish is cooked to order ensuring it's at it's best. The cheeseburgers are yummy as well.

Had large Cod,Medium Cod and one Huss,each with small Chips.You have to wait whilst the fish is individually cooked,meaning that it is fresh,and not precooked like the other Fish shops in Town.Only adverse comment is that you get too many chips.

This used to be our favourite fish and chip shop in Alton, but in the last few months it really seems to have gone downhill. We bought dinner tonight for four, and were very disappointed; all of the food was cold, the chips were dry and scraggly and the onion rings were burned through. We only ended up being able to eat half of what we bought, which was a waste.

Been going here for 15 yrs as was the best take away F&C; in town.

We have used this shop for years, but more recently the quality has not been so good, Portions seems to be smaller, more batter than fish quite often & quite dried out too & luke warm chips- which may be because they serve up the chips & put on top while they wait for the rest of the order to be cooked. Really want it to go back to how it was as now unpredictable

Fuimos a esta noche kingfishers' (viernes). En mi opinión, siguen siendo las mejores de la zona. Precioso bien preparado patatas fritas, crujientes por fuera y suaves por dentro. Los peces perfectamente cocinado estaba cubierto con el tono bateadoras.

Called in just for chips and curry sauce. Most chips in bin so curry sauce went with it, although curry sauce was OK. Chips tasted like they were yesterday's and not hot. They said it was quiet so must have been sat for ages. Tried to call to give heads up but got no answer.

Buen pescado y patatas fritas. El chaval que lleva el sitio incluso puede decirte donde el pescado es servir y que fue capturado por barco! Me quedé muy impresionado con eso. Claramente orgullosos en el pescado, fuente y servir. Nunca he visto eso antes!

We have tried other places but always come back here. Fish is cooked to order and there is a good variety of other options. Portion sizes are good and so this is great value for money.

This is our local and they have never disappointed us with their food or service. COD is usually cooked fresh as they are so busy. Chips are always nicely cooked and crispy, lovely pea fritters and curry sauce. We have tried other local establishments but they are inferior compared to Dave and his team. Keep on cooking Dave.

My family and I went here this evening after a long day. I ordered a 1/4 chicken and the drumstick had the full feathers still on the end! The rest of the chicken had hairs too and it smelt and tasted horrible. Service also took ages as there was only 2 people serving. The chips made it worth the wait though

Best fish and chips for miles. Friends even come to us from other areas for a meal from there. One of our friends is on a gluten free diet and has no problems after eating here.

Busy popular chip shop. Offers a good selection of children's meals that come in a fun box with a themed gift.The service is good and the staff friendly.The food is fresh and packed well so it keeps its heat until you get home.There is a selection of cold drinks to choose from and side orders and extras like ketchup and vinegar to purchase.

If we want fish and chips, this is where we go, food is perfect, staff are friendly ( there's always a queue but the staff are very fast!)portion sizes have got a little but smaller but ill still go there happily!

I have lived in alton for 3 years and worked here for 10 years. over the years i can quite honestly say this is the best fish and chips around. good prices, fast service, consistantly good. tried other places but nothing compares to this place. they do have amazing curry sauce also. would highly recomend going when its quiet as if you do go when its peak time it can have big ques. as fast as they are to serve, they do getvextremely bussy as its so popular. Highly recomend this place.

Always have great food here& especially love the curry sauce..however on a number of Saturday afternoons when the answer machine message states open 12-2,have been there really looking forward to my Saturday treat at 1.55pm & the place is deserted !! So enjoyed a freshly made pizza from your neighbouring shop

Food is reheated several times, haven't managed to get fresh food for a long time yet it's still the same price for reheated leftovers.Don't bother!
