Great room for the night and good food. Service perhaps a bit slow, unfortunately bar was cold and certainly needed heating in late September/ early October - a real shame.

One of the meals was missed off which could've been avoided if the barman had read back the order to us or told us how much the order was as we would've realised. We would've re-ordered but were told they had run out, and service wasn't the quickest, so we had to leave by that point. My friend said her food was nice, so just a shame I missed out. Nice beer garden and atmosphere

Very disappointing. Pre booked for Saturday evening dinner, authentic Indian food menu and advised after ordering they had ran out of rice!!! No gumption by staff to obtain supply yet only 2 miles from convenience stores in Newent, inexcusable! Re order mains took an hour to serve, excuse was they had a large booking. Portion size very small for price. We will not be going again!

Nice location, had ham, egg and chips, was really tasty, but had 2 black hairs stuck to my eggs. Ham glaze really nice. Bit disappointed that the person serving us wasn't knowledgeable about the gluten free items on the menu, he tried to steer us to sandwiches and kept telling us chips were gluten free. Please be 100% sure of what the ingredients are on your menu. It was a small menu so should really know!

I cant say what the food was like because we left disappointed. We phones to book a table asking if they did Indian food, as seen on social media. We were told yes but on arriving we were shown a limited takeaway menu. Two main dishes a few rice choices and one or two side dishes. We were told the full menu would be arriving soon. I have kept an eye on the menu not great.

Unfortunately we spent the night there, which was not a pleasant experience due to the cold. The heating was off (I thought that it was probably on a timer and would come on in the morning but it didn't). The duvets don't provide enough cover and the cold metal bed frame woke me every time my feet made contact. We were warned that as there were no carpets we might hear footsteps above. From 6 am there was a constant noise from the owners apartment above. We were the only customers so if there is an issue with that particular room why weren't we offered an alternative? The milks in the room were all out of date - my wife thought it tasted funny and then I saw the best before was August last year! The staff were wearing shorts and sliders which is more the strange by virtue of the fact that it is winter and they do not have any heating on. The room was mostly clean (a little bit of black mould on the bath and sink sealant). Towels wrapped in ribbon were placed on the bed (why?). Towels are required in a bathroom and not a bedroom although I should have used them to keep warm as there was no supplementary blankets in the room. One would expect to see tissues in a room but not here. Breakfast was OK. The sausages were very hard and difficult to cut even with a serrated knife. The tea pot was rather small for 2 and there was no offer of a refill. Otherwise, the rest of the breakfast was good. This could be a great place with more attention to detail and some heating in the room. I doubt if I would risk a return to find out.

Fantastic country pub. Lovely atmosphere and cosy surroundings. Unfortunately let down by the food. Now I've been here on quite a few occasions and food has always been good. The Sunday Roast this weekend didn't match usual high standards. The Beef was as tough as old boots and must of been cut with an axe as slices came out thicker than rump steaks. Also might be worth investing in new cutlery as the knives were blunt. Though I imagine a samurai sword wound of struggled with the Beef. Hope changes are made as this place is usually a delight.

Camping nearby, booked a table for 2 nights. Good choice of food. Well cooked hot food, decent portions, hot plates. Whitebait to share as a starter both nights. Steak and fish and chips first night, lamb shank both of us second night. Lovely Merlot. First night locals were in, nice to see. Second night a large group of seniors celebrating a birthday. It was probably a good job we arrived before they did as we may have had to have waited a while for our meals. First night waitress charming, second night different waitress could have been slightly happier. Overall would visit again.

Bedroom and bathroom both a good size, clean, bright and airy. A couple of simple maintenance issues hadn't been attended to with several lights not working and facility to adjust blinds either broken or missing. Room not serviced at all during 3 day stay meaning that we had to ask for replacement of tea/coffee/milk/bottled water/toilet roll. Breakfast was disappointing. There were no sauces/jam/marmalade provided on the table, everything had to he requested. We were requested to place our breakfast order the night before and it was assumed that we would be having the same each day. Presentation was uninspiring and not very appealing, definitely worth £10 per person per night. One evening meal taken there was of a better standard. The bar, restaurant and outdoor space are all very clean and nicely laid out and the setting itself is lovely.

Sadly our visit last Tuesday was very disappointing. We have been visiting the Kilcot for many years through different owners and managers, and although the menu has sometimes been uninspiring, it has generally been a reliable place to eat. This was the first time that it was actually bad. I could go into detail but basically everything was overcooked, very greasy and poor quality. This was supposed to be a treat for my son and his family, but was simply embarrassing.

Very strange experience. We went as a large group (10 people) and had to order in advance which was fair enough however they had run out of food we pre ordered when we arrived. We only received half a Yorkshire pudding and no crackling with the pork despite saying it was included. In addition the people in our group that order chicken didn't all get stuffing. The staff also wanted nothing to do with us and didn't take our drinks order and made us go to the bar to order drinks rather than ordering at our table. Overall the experience wasn't great.

Stayed as a guest for two nights. Accomodation is fine, although wooden floors mean you hear every footstep of the people in the room above. Nice place to stay if all you need is a bed for the night. Don't expect any hospitality after 9.30ish, despite the website advertising opening hours until 11pm on Friday and Saturdays. It seems that if the pub is not busy, they close early - no warning. We didn't even bother asking if we could have breakfast (we had not pre-booked) and went elsewhere for all food and drink after that! It is 1.5 miles from Newent and to be honest, can't walk the route as it is a busy fast road, and there are no pavements/paths. You need to drive (no local taxis either).

I have given 2 stars and that is generous. I have been going to the Kilcot over many years. When visiting Newent but my visit at the weekend will be my last. There was no atmosphere. We had fish and chips, the fish was greasy,I've not had triple cooked chips that looked and tasted as if the had been left to go cold and then reheated again greasy and not crisp.A larger dash is larger with a dash of lemonade no a larger and lime. The latte was like rocket fuel. I don't like being asked if I'd like to leave a tip! What has happened to the Kilcot?

We had to get our own cutlery for each course as the waitress didn’t return. Very slow at clearing after first course. Only half of the mains arrived on time. Again plates not cleared. No opportunity to order more drinks slow to bring dessert menu and waitress came back 3 times to check.not offered coffee. I was overcharged for food and manager questioned this. Waitress questioned me about why I didn’t pay the service charge and rolled her eyes when I listed the problems. The food was at best average and was overpriced for the quality. We were booked table of four for 6.30pm and were not given our main course meals until after 8.30pm, I enquired regarding the delay at just before 8pm, and the response was "it's on it's way, mate", which translated to an additional 30 minutes wait! I did notice that a later party of diners had been prioritised, and had finished their meals while we were still waiting for ours. There was an apology - of sorts - but no explanation. What was supposed to be a "early evening meal" ended-up being an all-nighter! Such a shame because the food was good and the serving staff were cordial and polite enough... but there was obviously an issue in the kitchen with our order (or had we been forgotten?). We had no time to consider a dessert... The meal and drinks came to £128, including "waiting time".

Great chips but the batter on the fish is terrible, soggy greasy sponge. I am not sure what the problem is but the fish comes in batter that looks brown and appetising but inside is thick soggy and full of oil. Like supermarket frozen fried fish. Horrible.
