Nicest chippy in the area. Foods always fresh, no stale reheated rubbish, super friendly staff unlike some other local chippys. Perfect portion sizes and good prices all things considered. Just wish it was a little closer to my home lol

So not been to the jolly friar for about 8 years but they certainly did not disappoint . Beautiful white cod in a lovely crispy batter and good tasty chips cooked to perfection . Definitely worth a visit 👍🏻

The all-time smallest portions I have ever had!! Less than 20 chips in a regular portion, about 20% of the "chips" were actually battered bits. Certainly don't need to worry about the calories! Never before have I finished a chippy tea and needed to make something else to top up... Astonishingly poor value. The regular chip portion size is about right for a 3 year old! One saving grace is despite the greasiness and lack of food, it tasted good and the fish was tasty and seemed fresh. Each box was £9 for "large" fish (that's a joke), regular chips (even bigger joke) and a pot of side. We won't be returning or recommending.

Jolly Friar provide fresh and beautifully cooked food everytime! Together with customer service of the highest level by Helen and her team. You will always walk into a friendly, efficient environment where NOTHING is to much trouble and the food reflects this. I'm not a customer of just a few months , I'm a customer of years. I am also a outspoken person who would state the opposite review above if needed but i can't, ive always received excellent food and service consistently! I highly recommend Jolly friar and encourage anyone who fancies fish and chips to call in and endure this for themselves! Dont just take my word for it...... believe me you will not be disappointed!!!!!!!

Amazing so good I love the chips 🍟. This was the first time I've had the fish 🐟 and will be having it again. Great service they completed my hair. I love is chipy so much is a 10/10.😊😋

I wasn't too impressed with the small chips, sausage and gravy which I had about a month ago. Ok it was a small but expecting a bit more, also it wasn't very hot, warm at the most. It all tasted fairly good, not amazing though. I asked for a plastic fork, they said something like they aren't allowed to sell them anymore? I got a wooden one (can't get much on one of those small wooden forks) and it snapped! I was parked quite close so I went back and got another one. I suppose ok if you're a school kid. But if you're hungry I would recommend a large version and hopefully it's hotter than what I had.

Friendly staff but food lets it down , Yorkshire fishcake with virtually no fish , chips ok and the large fish was small with over done batter , wont go again .

Great chippy, great service, only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because you can't use card payment. There is a cash machine very, very close though.

I called and ordered fish bites for lunch today , when I arrived my order was ready ,I must say the service was second to none .Prompt, efficient and served with a smile .My food was absolutely delicious, fresh white fish coated in a crisp light batter ,lovely chips and mushies too ,thank you so much 😋 will be back xxx

Absolutely hate when places who do this and usually result's in me never returning. I'm quite happy to pay more if the quality and quantity stays the same, but to raise the price and lower both is a big nope. Used to go here and get a large haddock. They have stopped them and only do one size fits all fish unless you go for the small size which is a kids portion. It's like they weigh out the chips and become tight. I understand given today's times with gas prices etc and everything going up, but I ain't paying close to £10 for less. Unfortunately sooner or later we will all be home, no takeaways/restaurants open going out our minds. Sorry for the bad/mid review. What was once good is now lacking and becoming expensive just for a chippy.

I've never left a review before;but this was by far the worst chippy i've ever had. Oily with zero taste. The fish is disgusting and not well cooked...the chips was worse. Nice people but we couldn't eat it all and me and my partner are still hungry.

Fish and chips always taste lovely but they only take cash payments. Please invest the small amount it costs in a card machine and make it easier for your customers!

Best chippy in dronfield by miles, lovely cod and chips every time, the cod is beautifully cooked. Staff are very friendly and helpful. 100% recommended and will be back on Friday for my fish and chips!

Kids special had about 6 chips onit fishcake butty was cold wouldn't recommend below average there's no good chippy's in Dronfield there all below average

I had the large fish special the curry was standard curry sauce no problem. The chips were very nice but only a very small portion and the fish to call large is stretching it a bit . It was also a bit grey and tasteless. Not be back

The Jolly Friar. What can I say. Friendly on first approach, good food and well priced. However, for some reason can get very upset and consequently rush ones order, to the point of forgetting to ask if one would like salt and vinegar. Lovely food, odd service. I shall not be back.

Excellent quality fish and chips for miles around. They have a unique yet great taste, unfortunately the prices are going up which can't be helped.

Best cooked fish I've tasted in years. Highly recommend.

Said it shuts at 8pm, got there for 7:50pm on a Friday evening , doors were locked and women behind counter had already cleaned out fryers.

Phoned order in and picked it up bang on time. Very efficient. Two people in front of me hadn't pre-ordered and were still served. Would have been annoyed if I couldn't pick up my order at allocated time!

We travel around the Area to different Chippys . And Jolly Frier is one of our Favourites so far this year . We have found the Little back street Family run ones are Best . The 2 Ladies serving were very polite and friendly , also well presented , and the shop spotlessly clean . Well done staff.

Gone way down hill the 3 staff iv delt with are on the rude side more like its bad thing im there as a customer, has a card accepted sign but cards are not accepted meaning I had to leave and get cash, the food is exspsive for cod but the cod is slime and not great batter just doesn't stick to the not so white fish that is mushy and the chips not the best, so all in all once the best place to go specially for a nice smile and service and best fish but sadly that is no more, oh yeh and the opening time displayed here on Google are wrong
