Visited for a birthday celebration this evening. Venue - quaint country pub style. Staff - extremely friendly and helpful. Menu - a solid menu with great variety of… too hard to choose. Food - absolutely amazing. Great portions and really tasty. Price - extremely reasonable. There were four of us and we each had a main course and dessert. Three of us had coffee and each had two beverages … total cost £97. Additional bonus - this is a (very) dog friendly establishment.

Was actually looking for another eatery but it was fully booked and the joiners arms wasn’t too far away. Initially sceptical as it was quiet but having spoke to the bar/ waitress decided to take the plunge and glad we did. Portion sizes were ample a good selection / variety on the menu. Deserts were also large portioned food was to a good standard. Waitress was attentive and we had no complaints. Good food and reasonably priced.

We parked with two wheels on the pavement quite close to the inn entrance as did other cars. We went to the bar and a pleasant, helpful lady suppliedour drinks. We were then taken by another lady to our booked table with a menu supplied to each of us. We decided what meal each of us would like. The second lady returned and took our orders. What surprised is all was how soon the meals were delivered. the fastest meal delivery we all had experienced. The waiter asked if we needed any small extras but none were needed. I ordered a trio of meats lunch and left the waiter to choose the three meats We were presented with 3 dishes of vegetables. The only fault was the chips were over cooked and brown. The meals were very tasty and full of flavour. The temperature in the dining room was a little low but this is a minor problem. We all adreed that we will return to this inn.

We ate here on Friday night as it was very close to the Airbnb we had booked for the weekend to see Kynren. We were greeted by very friendly staff members and had a drink in the bar. We ordered two starters between the four of us which were very nice and large portions. Not one of the four of us could finish our main course despite them all being very good quality and extremely tasty. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone passing through.

Visited with my partner and our two children (age 3 and 8 months) the menu was great for lunch time, very reasonable price and the home made chips were to die for. The lady in the pub was very good with my three year old and made her feel welcome. She brought us a highchair, talked to our daughter and made her laugh. She was friendly, the kind of person you want in a pub / restaurant. The pub was dog friendly too, with water bowls being provided for dogs who were sitting outside in the sun. The toilets were clean and the ladies included a fold down baby change, child toilet seat and nappy bags (all of which came in handy for my kids) Would recommend and will go back for tea!

If you book a table for 1pm in any restaurant you should get priority over any walking, apparently this doesn't happen at the Joiners Arms Hunwick. I booked a table for 2 for 1pm today. When we arrived they had had an unprecedented influxall at the same time. Did we mind a 30 minute wait, we said OK. At 2.26pm we were told our meals were being plated. OMG do they only have a camping stove to cook on. Small fish and chips and Lasagne was our order, so we hoped the food would be so fantastic it wd be worth the wait , it wasn't the fish was OK, my friend was underwhelmed by the lasagne. What more can I say. Don't go, abysmal service for ordinary FOOD

After visiting last year while on holiday and so impressed, we booked for steak night and fish night before we left for our holiday near by.We arrived on steak night at 7.30 to find the restaurant empty, just us to begin with, then a couple and their little boy arrived, and during our meal a single gentleman, unlike last year at the end of July the place was heaving. We looked at the menu and chose potato skins to share as a starter, they were very thin floppy and greasy. To follow I had a large T bone steak unfortunately tasteless my husband had a mixed grill which was huge, both came with an onion ring with no onion in it and dreadful soggy chips. It was our anniversary and we didn't want to make a fuss so we did not complain, but we did not go back for fish night.

Don't believe the location shown on the Tripadvisor map - this pub is in Hunwick, an attractive village a few miles North West of Bishop Auckland. The pub was recommended so we've visited twice in the last couple of weeks and were impressed on both occasions. We ordered food in the friendly bar and ate in the small restaurant. The burgers and scampi, then pheasant and steak pie were all cooked well and tasted great. My only criticism would be the chips (but slightly soggy chips seem to be very common so maybe most people like them that way. This is obviously a well run pub and restaurant with keen pricing, quality food, good atmosphere and friendly, prompt service. So why not 5 stars? - because they are too freely awarded on Tripadvisor and should be awarded very, very rarely - there is almost always something that could be slightly better.

Visited the Joiners last night Wednesday 17 Nov. Atmosphere relaxed and welcoming, fire burning, great choice of food. I chose a flat iron steak which had been marinated in garlic and balsamic, I have to say it melted in my mouth! If it's plainer food you're after my other half had the fillet, also cooked to perfection. Both were paired with home made chips. Now value for money; our bill was just over £25 and the bonus? On Wednesdays you get a free bottle of wine!!! Try it you won't be disappointed.

Having been in the area for work, I happened upon this lovely local establishment by pure chance, seeing the welcoming menu board outside I decided to try my luck. All I can say is how lucky am I... I felt welcomed from the moment I entered. The landlord was friendly and was quick to recommend I make use of the restaurant and the specials board. The food was delicious, healthy portions and great value for money. I managed to squeeze in 3 courses and was certainly full and refreshed ready for a long drive home. To summarise I've found a gem, would recommend for both food & drink either social or business. Definitely now on my journey planner, looking forward to my next visit.

Ate here again a few weeks back, the landlord had bought a whole cow, and had special steak nights for a few days. They were superb, I had a fillet steak and it was so tender you could have used a spoon to cut it. Hope he does it again.

Have lived in Hunwick for about eighteen months now,and have eaten here on several occasions, evenings and Sundays. Food is always good value, especially the specials. The Sunday lunches are always superb, actually I could not cook a Sunday roast for two for less than The Joiners can provide!!!! Wine is also excellent, and for a village pub it has the largest range of whiskey and gin I have ever come across. They have a cheese night once a week, and whiskey and wine evenings across the month, and the staff are amazingly friendly and helpful, as are the locals who frequent the pub. I would highly recommend it to.anyone from.the local area or even passing through.

We went quite early and the fire must just have been lit. Food was OK. One of the women serving wasn't very pleasant and the locals weren't very welcoming, a lot of stares as we were strangers, which was ironic as we lived there in the past for almost 10 years. I like my food really hot and it wasn't!

We were staying in a holiday cottage near by, we went twice during our weeks stay, the first time was on Wednesday which is steak night and the second was on our last night Friday which is fish night. On the steak night the food was fantastic, we both had Tornado Rossini which was cooked to perfection, and the 10oz fillet was so tender, on fish night my husband had the mixed fish grill which was salmon, sea bass and prawns, and I had another 10oz fillet and a lobster tail, wow it was such a treat and again cooked to perfection. Shame that we live 400 miles away, if this pub was in the village that we live in we would eat there at least twice a week. The owner is very friendly, and stops to chat to all his dinners, even when rushed off his feet. If we return to the area we will return to this great little pub. Being Londoners we found the cost very reasonable.

Visited here many times great choices on the menu and ever changing specials board. Has a great selection of wines to accompany your meal as well as real ales and lager s, highly recommend the steaks locally sourced and great value I went for the surf n turf came with real chips and nice side salad. Bar area gives you the feel of a local traditional English pub with friendly locals. Enjoyed a few drinks before our meal in the outdoor area in the sun . Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu Service was fantastic gentleman couldn't do enough to make sure everything was perfect. Great food Great drink Great feel to the place and the best bit GREAT PRICE

We dined here on Saturday evening and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Our steaks were delicious accompanied with a fresh salad, real chips and cooked to perfection . The service was outstanding, the gentleman who served made us feel very welcome, was knowledgeable about the menu and recommended a superb wine all served with a smile. The bill was ridiculously cheap, probably the best value I have had in a long time,we will definitely be returning and highly recommend to others,

Good food apart from the fatty/brown in appearance chips, the drinks were very keenly priced and the service was excellent.

Came across this little gem after visiting friends in the north east. The pub was really busy as it was Sunday lunch time, but the staff could not have been more welcoming- they clearly recognise a hungry toddler when they see one! My roast pork complete with stuffing, homemade Yorkshires, crisp roasties and lots of veg was delicious and excellent value for money. I'm just sorry I had no room for pudding as my husband said the warm chocolate brownie was the best he had tasted in a long time. We were not drinking but the locals seemed to be happy with the beer and the wine list was extensive. The coffee was certainly good. The atmosphere was warm, relaxing and very child friendly- nothing seemed too much trouble. We will definitely be back but will certainly book next time- just a shame the Joiner's isn't closer to home!

Stayed in Room 4 for an evening whilst in the area. Great find, room was spotless and very comfy. Bed (king size in this room) was also fantastic. Had evening meal with friends and this was great - chips to die for! Very reasonably priced. Yes, it (the room) was maybe laid out strangely but that didn't distract imo. All about the food and service which both first class. Pay the extra for the breakfast - you won't be disappointed! Lots of choice.
