Excellent service lovely food small variety but lasagne was excellent and bolognese fries was good slightly cold

It has to be the best Pint off Guinness I have ever tasted one of Belfast number 1 pubs

An old bar for those used to living in this old town. Feels as local as you can get and full of all ages . Never truly packed to the gills. Nice boundary beer. 🍺 You can drink outside in the open air out the back too.

Good drink,good service, good music. Bit quiet and amazingly closed at 7pm on Sunday night. Have decent pint although a little cooler than necessary and poured a little faster than necessary.

Busy bar in Belfast city centre, buzzing with people. Service was a bit slow but likely due to the crowd around the bar.

Went in for a beer and food was very good

Shocking service tonight. 2 bar staff on, 4 people were served before me, it would have been 5 but a guy who joined the bar after me told the barman I was first.

Great pints selection from boundary and cozy atmosphere. Had a great little 3 piece playing when we were in.

Walked up and in to friendly, helpful staff and a great variety of hand pulled local beers! Yum!!

Good selection of beers though not great for low or zero alcohol. Asking for a tip when the service is slightly better than miserable is hilariously awful. Enough to put me off coming back. A pub I used to love.

Amazing choices of gin and whiskey from Irish distillery. Gutted to have missed the Saturday live music. No mess around on a Saturday night unlike anywhere else in the city which is importance as we were harassed on the street by all sorts before coming in here.

Here friends you can enjoy a delicious craft beer, if you like IPAs take number 1 Imbongo (tropical IPA) the flavor the texture the smell...it is divine 🤗 The atmosphere is pleasant. Go ahead and tell me which one you preferred...

Brilliant pub serving some excellent beers from Boundary Brewery. If you like craft ales, it's a must. It's also just around the corner from The Deers Head which is another cracking craft ale pub.

This is a lovely wee pub named after our most cherished poet. Very friendly staff, great atmosphere and lovely Irish folk music. Really worth a visit.🌿☕

Can be great. Used to be consistently good. But now dead.

This is a pub located in the Cathedral quarter with a fair bit of history behind it. It also serves some nice quality beers from local brewer Boundary brewery, and their fruity stout is class and reasonably priced at under a fiver. Guinness is currently £6. Note: you can't use cash here, which goes against my beliefs if I'm honest. The one thing I don't want to see is everyone being forced to use bank cards. That's the way of corporate fascism and is something I oppose. I hope the John Hewitt rethink this policy. Not really much craic or atmosphere here as many folks drinking here don't tend to be locals and personally to me it felt like a bit of a hipster gaff but the Irish trad sessions are great and the barmen serving were fairly decent and welcoming. So mixed bag really: not great but not bad. If they can tweak the formula a bit there's potential.

Relaxing and easy going pub! Amazing brewing selection of beers. We stopped by accidentally but it was super great surprise! Totally recommend it and try out the wide variety of beers and ciders they have!

Definitely one of the best craft beer pubs in Belfast with a dozen (or so) beers on tap, mainly from the local and excellent Boundary brewery. Great staff helping with your beer choice and excellent pours directly from a fresh keg

I went very early evening. Was a quiet pub at the time with a group of people knitting in the corner. I only stayed for one drink ad had other things to so, but it was a mighty fine Guinness I was served. I got the impression it would become a very busy pub later in the evening. Recommended.

We had a nice visit to the pub it was really quiet & the bar staff were lovely but it really angers me when pubs believe they have the right to remove your right to pay with cash, whilst we enjoyed our drinks I would prefer to give my money to the Crown, the Dirty Onion, Thirsty Goat, Kelly’s or any other bar that welcomes cash! We wont be rushing back despite there being nothing wrong other than the removal of cash! 💰

Quiet pub, didn't eat but drank. Many unusual and different beers on tap, which makes this pub different from the other pubs in Belfast.

Without question the best Guinness we tried on our Guinness tour of Belfast. Very nice. 10/10.

Great place. Visited on Friday 23 Frb 2024 for a bite to eat. The chief from the pop-up restaurant came out to each customer and explained where products came from. Excellent food and great atmosphere. We'll be back.

A bar that has seen better days. It looks tired and need of a bit of TLC. A card only bar which is a trend in town but a bit of a turn off. The staff were great polite and attentive.

Not what it used to be with new management No food anymore, less music. Pints expensive. Not the same atmosphere. Big lights always on. Staff still good.

Really liked it. It was a typical bar - nothing pretentious about it and it had a gr8 atmosphere. Really enjoyed it & and I would go again. Prices were a lot cheaper than in city centre hotels

We stepped into this bar on our little pub crawl. After just being in the File of York with its mad decor, brightness and loud atmosphere, the John Hewitt initially seemed a bit tame and simple. However, we were too quick to judge and this was by far one of our favourites on the tour. The staff are really nice and friendly, pouring a splendid Guinness. The quieter atmosphere is in keeping with the more local experience of this bar. There were at least three chaps all chilling by themselves here: reading, thinking, watching the live music. The chap playing for the evening was really great with a deep melodic voice. The only place we stayed for two drinks!

The headcount of Guinness I’ve ever had!! Super creamy, with an incredible head and just leaves you wanting more and more! Great bar/pub with fab live Irish music, such a great place to come!

A lovely local bar, with Irish beer fir sale, not got the ordinary beers but some great craft beers for sale. We enjoyed or visit so much we went back.

The boundary beer offering is really poor these days. I'm as craft beer fan, but this stuff is undrinkable. I actually couldn't drink one of the pale ales.

I'd been here before on previous visits to Belfast and enjoyed the experience. You can have all the live music, beer selection etc you want, John Hewitt, but if you insist on not accepting payment methods which don't leave a digital trail, then you've lost my custom. I don't want the banks knowing where and when I've had a drink, with knock on effects for mortgages, insurance etc, thank you very much. I'll come back, once you've ditched the cashless nonsense, otherwise count me out.

Recently reopened, now run by boundary brewery. A classic old pub with a big range of beers from boundary plus guests and even imports from England. Service was good. Would definitely visit again.

Just hasn't been the same since Boundary Brewing took over unfortunately. Staff still very nice - but the atmosphere is just lacking the soul it once had.

Unfortunately in my most recent visit we were in on a very quiet night and just before closing time. Great selection of beers and just as well as our party included a beer reviewer! Been before several times before and usually very lively.

Great wee bar on outskirts of cathedral quarter. Always busy but can almost always get a seat. Recently renovated beer garden and lovely craft beers from both Boundary and a mix of guests, along with good takeaway can selections. No food on offer. Usually some form of live music, often traditional, and a pub quiz mid week. CARD ONLY - NO CASH.

This is a lovely pub that offer some amazing nights. The atmosphere is calm, even when it's packed with people. The beer garden is lovely and in a quiet corner. They can pour a proper Guinness, which is a huge plus.

Great look of a traditional bar belies a modern cool vibe. Decent selection of beer (although we only went for Guinness!). Tight trio playing jazz in the corner made the ambience.

I have heard about this place for a while, especially with it's connection with Boundary Brewery. So after a great concert in the Telegraph building (and that's a great use of space) I finally had a chance to call in. It has a great old time pub atmosphere that I really liked. Strange that all Belfast pubs were like this not that long ago. I'm not the biggest fan of traditional music being played, feels touristy to me somehow, but it wasn't that annoying. And the beer selection is great for a city centre pub. There was a real mix of ages here, and I enjoyed it. A nice atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to those who want a different pint in a good spot

So the John Hewitt says it’s dog friendly It is not, unless you want to be seated outside in the cold. And the place was empty, I mean there was 8 people in the bar and we were 2 couples. Won’t ever be back. If you want a good time go to the Sunflower
