I would not go anywhere else! The food is unbelievable, consistently great every time and always piping hot. The staff are always friendly and always give my son a lolly which is such a lovely touch! Best in the north east if not the whole uk 🫶🏼

I've been using The Jewel and the Crown for a number of years now and the service and standards have been first class. I have also recommended the food to family and friends who now also get their take out's from there. SPECIAL BANQUET THURSDAY and SUNDAY FROM £12.95, excellent value. Onion Bhaji, Tikka Chicken Madras, Chips and Nan Bread absolutely delicious.

So after a family recommendation a long time ago I was advised to try the JLC - forever sceptical of the new & unfamiliar after many a let down I thought I’d give them a go & then probably just move onto the next suggestion - how wrong I was!!! Almost 15 glorious & well fed years later with never a disappointment or bad meal ever - I’m the one recommending the wares of the fantastic authentic Indian cuisine available to all that will listen. An amazing family run business that never fails to deliver on exceptional taste as well as quantity, who genuinely care about their food & the service they provide. Keep up the fantastic work & I’ll no doubt see you again next week. Thanks.

Been using this takeaway since it first opened and can honestly say I haven't had a bad meal from them yet. Staff are great, friendly and polite. Tonight I had the Thursday night special. Started with 2 good sizes onion Bhajis Main course was chicken Balti Sri Lanka style with garlic rice (photo) and a plain naan to mop up with. They even let me swap my side for another starter cos I was sharing with a mate and was only coppers extra 😃 Cannot recommend this place highly enough!!!

This food was 10/10, i preordered this special mixed grilled platter as it’s not on the menu and the chicken tikka and lamb chops were cooked to perfection! The garlic naan was spot on too. i also had the chicken tikka masala madras heat and it was very tasty and the spice level met my expectations. I highly recommend you to order from the jewel in the crown. The staff are the most nicest people ever! Please order from this place, it’s amaaaazing!!!!!

Food always amazing! We have been getting our take away, from here for nearly 15 years now. We have been Indian takeaways in the area with friends and family but never found one better! We can never fault food always full of flavour, good portions never oily. And still always hot when we get it home.

I asked the chef to surprise me with something hot! Oh he did not disappoint…he made me a Naga Chilli Curry with a Garlic Chilli Rice and it was amazing! Both went together perfectly and had a lovely kick to it but it was not too hot that you can’t enjoy it like some other places, this was actually perfect! Will definitely be ordering this again!

Best takeaway im the North East, i have visited this place few times. Nice hidden gem in Birtley. Staff are very friendly and service is great. I recommend the chicken jaalfrezi with a garlic nan They also do amazing charity work from looking at thier social media page! Hats off to them 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I can not recommend The Jewel in the Crown takeaway enough! Always amazing food, friendly staff, Mazmul and Naz are spot and competitive prices you cant go wrong. Ordered and paid £37 for 3 meals of which 2 of the meals were wrong. One was completely different from what I had ordered last time. I paid extra for Lamb and it was chicken. The owner said to bring it back but I don't see why I should have to drive back to birtley for his mistake. He said next time you come I'll sort it out. Not happy. As you can see on the photos pal it's not lamb and it's not dry....

First time I’d been and we got Veg Thali and meat Thali, chips and poppadoms, absolutely delicious!! Can’t fault anything! Would’ve probably fed four people! Really amazing it’s now going to be my go to x

I've been ordering from Jewel in the Crown now for over 10 years and it has never disappointed. Delicious food provided by wonderfully friendly staff as you wait in a cosy foyer. I would definitely recommend going on a 'Specials' night which is Thursday and Sunday as you get so much value for money. I'll definitely be back because I have no reason to go anywhere else, it would feel like treason if I did. My son who is 10 also had his first Indian cuisine takeaway from here on 26/10 and absolutely loved it.

The two lads Raffi and Naz are top blokes. Great customer service with great patter, the banquet specials for £13 are spot on. You get so much food enough for 2 people. The food is spot on. I like mine spicy so they made it with an extra kick. Nothing compares on this side of the river. 100% would recommend.

Just finished another excellent meal from The Jewel in the Crown, I've used The Jewel for several years now and I've never been disappointed. I normally get a banquet meal on a Thursday which is great value for the quality of the food. Mr Khan and the family take great pride in the takeaway which is evident. Absolutely beautiful food, generous portions and excellent value. Not only do the Jewel in the Crown produce excellent food and service, they do so much for the community of Birtley, one example of this is their current program of offering free packed lunches to Children in the community, during the current cost of living crises this is truly appreciated and the local people should tip their hats.

The food here boasts exceptional quality, mouthwatering flavours, and a truly authentic taste, proven by their well-deserved awards. It is undoubtedly one of the finest Indian takeaways in the north east. My ultimate favorite and top recommendation is the Jalfrezi, best enjoyed with a cheese and keema naan. Moreover, the family managing the place are truly wonderful people, adding a touch of warmth to the overall experience! Will most certainly be returning here. 👍🏽

Reminds me of home! Great quality, tasty and authentic food! They’ve won awards over their food and it shows! Its definitely one of the best Indian takeaways in the north east. My go to dish and top recommendation is the Desi style Lamb Bhuna complimented with a garlic nan and a daali tarka madras extra hot! Also the family that run it are lovely people! 👍🏽

I used to go to low fell many years ago to the Last Days of the Raj which was my favourite indian, when I found out that the family were opening a takeaway in birtley I was really happy I have been using this takeaway ever since. The staff are brilliant and the food is tremendous they deserve all the recognition and awards for a friendly first class service with fine Indian food. I class the staff as friends such a lovely family and staff. My daughter who lives in Spennymoor come for their takeaway here which proves how highly they rate the food. Thank you all at Jewel

Fist time and the last not a lot of meat in 5meals over spiced for mild meals and very greasy two of the meals tasted nothing like the meals that we have had before from other restaurants and takeaway

When I want an Indian takeaway there is nowhere else I would get it from. The food is consistently superb and so is the service. Never had a bad meal or an issue with the order. 10/10

Great service and the Chicken Madras was very tasty but it had very little in it. It had 5 bits of chicken and some rice. I feel like I got rice and curry source and not much else. I was still starving afterwards. Imo they need to fill it with some veg or potatoes or something to make it a meal and not just an expensive snack.

This place is amazing honestly I ordered Chilli Chicken Naga and no other place does it authentically or better than the Jewel in the crown, everything from the service to the food was 5 star quality, staff was very friendly and polite and went above and beyond especially with recommendation. The food here is perfect, there’s no takeaway that has such fresh and quick food with amazing service too. I was immediately served by a woman who was so patient with me because it was my first time ordering and even showed me recommendations and each one she showed me tasted amazing! 10/10 😁

I have used this takeaway many times and it is usually excellent, but last week i asked for the usual chicken madras, but this turned out not to be up to the usual standard, the curry sauce tasted different there was no heat to it and the chicken was red as if it had been marinaded as tikka, there was nothing wrong with it, it just wasn't what i wanted, very disappointed i just hope it doesn't happen again. I have been back and it was excellent, back to its normal excellent quality, still in my opinion the best takeaway in Gateshead

Just had our first takeaway from here and definitely wont be the last- excellent value for money, really tasty and ready in half an hr to pick up from friendly staff.

They forgot to include my naan bread in a take away a few weeks ago and remembered when I called in earlier tonight! They gave me an extra starter and additional chicken for for the mistake…what fantastic customer service!! Thank you very much for the thoughtful and kind gesture it is very much appreciated.🙂

Got x2 set meal take aways tonight for three of us and we were all stuffed. Absolutely amazing quality. I felt I had to ring up and makes sure the chefs receive the credit too. 100% recommend 👌

It was my first Indian takeaway in the UK, and Mr. Khan was so helpful and kind. If I hadn't ordered a sweet curry I'd have been happier, but that was my own fault. It was just too sweet for my taste. The coconut rice was incredible as were the other sides.

Amazing fresh food, good portions with plenty of meat and tasted amazing. Returned tonight and was still brilliant.

What an amazing takeaway we had last night!!! Service was perfect, the quality and standard was outstanding. My partner said it was the best chicken Madras he has ever tasted, everything was so fresh. It was exactly to standard of a dine in restaurant but at home. The rogan josh was also amazing and full of flavour.

So disappointed. I picked this place due to the fab reviews. I wished I'd saved my money and gone elsewhere. Got home to find the order was wrong. The nans were cold. We were lucky if there were 5 pieces of chicken in our curries. My chicken was frozen strips that had been defrosted. The onion bahjis were squelching with grease and were inedible. Has to be the most expensive but worst Indian takeaway I've had. Save your money!

Had a lovely tea tonight. Great price and lovely food. Would recommend try here if your a curry lover. So much choice on the menu.

Can't fault the curries, they're great. Sometimes there had a been a poor quantity of chicken in the curry, 1 week only 4 small chunks, sometimes there can be 6, once there was 8, it is hit and miss regarding meat quantity. All the food tastes great though, most of the time 5 stars on taste. Highly recommended.

Our favorite Indian takeaway. We moved away from the area over 17 years ago, but whenever we are passing we always call in for a takeaway. Perfect every time.

Always get out curry fix from here and never disappoint. Portion sizes are perfect too. Highly recommend this place. Love the tandoori chicken too. Has really good flavours without it being too spicy.

Friendly and polite service and best takeaway we’ve had in years

Such a shame to be leaving a 1 star review as the food IS good, but out of my last 3 orders, 2 of them have been missing items. A few weeks ago they missed out one of the curries and tonight I’m missing a keema naan. Yes, I can ring the takeaway and they’ll put it right, but I shouldn’t have to do that in the first place! Plus, it means going back out to pick it up, and then everything else is lukewarm at best by the time you get back. Time to find somewhere a bit more reliable I think…

Called in again last night as on night shift what can I say absolutely gorgeous I love Indian takeaway this is the best around.chicken Madras lush chips good nan bread lovely.got a Madras sauce for tonight as I have cooked chicken in the fridge.after a curry you are always loose on a morning,not with this no worries the best curry house in the north east.staff so friendly and polite.it goes a long way.

I went to The Jewel in the Crown yesterday the chicken curry with mushrooms was very nice and tasty. The pilau rice had a very nice flavour to it and it went well with my chicken curry and mushrooms and the naan bread was lovely and warm and I dipped it in the curry and it was nice. The Jewel in The Crown is going places in my opinion and keep the standards up all the time and people will flood in everyday. Will I be back oh yes I will this takeaway is the best by a mile.

I've used this Takeaway for about 15 years now and have never been disappointed.... Until tonight... Chips were yesterday's recooked... 5 pieces of chicken in the madras. Opened the onion bahgi tub and it was full of grease. Has the place been taken over as my daughter had warned me the place has gone down hill?
