Cute, amazing ginger beer. V formal no dancing which would be fun

It’s great music but never enough seating and quite claustrophobic

Came from Suffolk for a weekend away with my partner. We booked tickets online to watch the swingaholics and enjoyed it so much we decided to spend our second and last night here also. Relaxing and laid back atmosphere. No problem with finding seating as we got there early although it does fill up quickly. Will definitely visit again!!!

This is a small bar in a basement (of course!) that plays jazz every day of the week. My wife and I spent 3 very enjoyable hours on a Saturday night. We arrived at around 9.30 and got in no problem and found a space at the bar. Later on we were lucky and got some seats / table when other people left. The drinks are delicious (try the ginger beer with sloe gin), service OK and the music was good.

Fabulous place to listen to live music. The atmosphere is great. Well worth a visit but check the times it's open.

Great music and atmosphere. However paying £7 for there to be no seats available is unfortunate, so I was standing and uncomfortable. Nowhere to put my drink either. If they’re going to charge entry, at least make sure there’s somewhere we can actually be, and not just stood in the entranceway like a lemon. I’m sure if you were lucky enough to have a table, you would have really enjoyed the night. And £5.50 for a ginger beer (soft drink) is insane.

It makes people feel relaxed and comfortable. The performance is wonderful. There are no special gimmicks. It makes people feel that everything comes from love.

Chance upon, my last night in Edinburgh. I enjoyed my time in this bar. Cover charge to enter and is worth it! You got live band from 6.15 pm to 1 plus 2 am. There are a varieties of drinks to order from and the bartender are super nice. Performances were great! Totally enjoyed! Thank you!

Beautiful & so nicely hidden that it's a place where you can get away from the hustle and bustle for a bit :) The staff is very nice, the atmosphere is very nice & the music is great too <3

Good cocktails, friendly staff, and excellent music in a intimate little underground spot. I really loved this place — I ended up coming back 3 times. It seemed to get a bit crazy and lost its vibes past midnight (as with anywhere) so if you want the classic jazz bar experience, make sure you get there for the earlier shows. :)

Great atmosphere and fantastic music! They welcomed us in even while a band was auditioning, and the performance was excellent. The venue comfortably accommodated our group of six, and I’d definitely return for a cozy night with great tunes. We had just eaten, so we didn’t inquire about food, but everything else was perfect.

when i went they had great young jazz musicians and great music. decent venue with good sound and passable view of the stage. Must visit if you like jazz.

When I was a student, I went 3 times a week. I couldn't drink alcohol, so I was grateful that they let me order coffee. I like the hideaway-like atmosphere under the stairs, and the chairs are nice because you can sit freely and relax. It's more free, spacious, and friendly than the jazz live houses in New York. On funk days, if you want to dance, some people will dance in front of the stage. Rough clothing is also OK. I've seen many people get too drunk to climb the stairs or fall down the slope outside, so please be careful. Taxis don't come unless you call for one. It's my favorite place.

An intimate space to enjoy talented musicians playing great music. What's not to like!

Lovely venue with great musicians and friendly staff. Also plenty of student discounts available. Only had drinks but food looked good also.

No food. Had a beer. Happened to come across this place by accident. Actually it was security who invited us in. So glad we dropped by. The band was rehearsing but stayed to watch their perform. They're amazing!

One of the best bars in Edinburgh! The bar and security staff show another level of customer service which you rarely see in late night bars. Highly recommend this place to anyone who hasn't been and I always return. The management/owners should be greatful for the staff they have!!

Really hidden and about 2 stories underground, we went on Saturday afternoon unplanned and loved the vibe of the place, they did a good range of cocktails and pints too

Atmosphere = Music! A very fine French piano/ bass/ drums trio later joined by 2 Scots on trumpet & alto sax. The drummer (after whom the trio is named) had a highly unique style; subtle, swinging, cool ... 🥁❤ Sadly my spelling isn't up to the name of this drummer, and hence, the trio!

A jazz bar is great anyway and rare to find. Super nice staff, sensational value for money, we saw 3 great bands in 6 hours for €12 entry. Drinks prices average and absolutely ok. Cozy location, nice people, good music - gladly again.

First time visiting after hearing so much about The Jazz Bar, it certainly did not disappoint. The fiery ginger beer is a must to try. Wonderful music, fantastic atmosphere and welcoming staff. I can't wait to come back next time I'm in Edinburgh.

During a night out in Edinburgh we entered The Jazz Bar on a night where a Lenny Krevitz coverband was playing. Atmosphere was good, drinks were affordable, music was even better! The only thing I could 'fault' was that due to the setup, depending on where you were seated, you couldn't see much of the performance because of the people standing next to the bar.

The guy outside was very friendly and nice. The drink was good and we could even get the student discount(not for every drink). It was a jam session day last night, my friend and I really enjoyed it. If we had more time in Edinburgh, we would have def visited again.

Nicest coolest bar in Edinburgh!

We popped in on Saturday for late night jazz and were not disappointed. The door staff were extremely friendly and the entry was very reasonable. Drinks service was quick and considering fringe/location, the tennents was cheapest we've come across (just under £6). Live music was flawless and vibe so fun - will be back!

I was there once, on August 10th: everything was disorganized and it wasn't even clear if the musicians had started playing or if we were listening to a CD. Very few seats and too many people who kept coming in.

Went there for a drink after work. Great music, fantastic venue, and very patient people on the door.

Saw the Tenement Jazz Band here during the Fringe - excellent venue, bar staff and atmosphere!

One of the best music venues in the UK.

For the first time since we visit Edinburgh we don’t felt welcome on the Jazz Bar after so many good memories me and my husband have from there. Doorstaff completely ignored us for 15 minutes and when we approached pointed us to a board that due to our age was really hard to read. Really disappointing experience that ruined our night.

Brilliant atmosphere and friendly staff, well stocked bar, good jazz and comfortable seating and viewing location.

Two ladies toilets, neither with a working lock or a reachable door. As someone with a disability that requires privacy, this ruined my night. Do better

The jazz musicians are very good here and entertaining too.the main topic is the music and the drinks loose interest.

Not a serious club. They filed for bankruptcy, cancelling gigs last minute. Now they've reopened and owe musicians money. No apologies or refunds. Wouldn't recommend!

You pay 10 pounds to enter. The live music starts around 7:30 p.m. At first smaller groups and quieter music. Change of group with performances of approximately 1 hour. Good vibes.

Beautiful place, definitely my go to and the place I recommend to everybody. However, the new bouncer hasn't been the nicest the last time I went. Being nice doesn't cost anything!

A beautiful hidden gem, we had such a relaxing afternoon with a wee lemonade, live jazz and low lighting. We'll definitely be back, the band performing were impeccable. Friendly staff, friendly regulars and such a good chilled out vibe. Occasional dancing from the audience will warm your heart too ♥️

A great evening at the Jazz Bar. It's a fantastic place for a small intimate gig. Prices were typical of Edinburgh. Staff were very helpful and friendly, and served very quickly.

Great place for unknown and local music

Sadly a poor crowd in here making it hard to enjoy the music. Seems folks would rather just shout above the PA to chat rather than to go somewhere else but its typical of how poorly behaved some crowds are, Jazz Bar appears guaranteed to see this as every visit has seen issues.. No crowd control either so when observing a near fight recently where some very drunk Irish short-@rse was making a fool of himself, if it had escalated, there seems nobody to sort it out. We won't be back that's for sure.

The bouncer almost kicked us out for asking if we could leave the drinks at the door to go smoke outside. Never coming back.

Great quality jazz musicians! The place itself is nice but it's hard to get a seat, and the drinks are very limited, they offer a few cocktails but you can't get many of the classics. Towards midnight they make space for the dance floor and it gets dancy which is really fun.

Had to look after an extremely drunk woman who the bouncers refused to phone her a taxi home or look out for her and make sure she didn’t walk out onto road.

I enjoyed the monday night Big Band. First the rehearsal and shortly after that their real gig! Was fun. With a nice atmosphere.

Always good music and the entry fee is well worth it to support local live music. Go on a Monday for the 17 piece band, or late on a Saturday for the impromptu 5 piece, thrown together on the night, but always sounding like they've played for years.

Hidden gem - visit if Jazz isn't your regular thing but you're open minded enough to try!

Love placee with lovely musicc. They do provide special discounts for students at the entrance as well as on the menu. But don’t expect the food here. The chips are basically that you will find in the store everywhere
