The Italian Sul Lago in Milton Keynes

The atmosphere was beautiful neat and clean. Can't say much about our food. Food does not match the expectations of Italian food standards. Missing salt or flavour And kitchen is supposed to close at 2100 on a busy weekend .

We’ve eaten here a couple of times and had really lovely meals on both occasions. But we also went for valentines dinner this evening and had the crab and lobster linguine which was extremely underwhelming and flavourless.

Great place in a beautiful setting by the lake . Food and service were brilliant but a bit pricy. Will go again, hopefully soon

My partner and I went for the first time yesterday for an occasion. Food was 10/10, good selection and portion sizes. Staff are extremely friendly, big thank you to valentina for being our amazing waitress. The atmosphere was great and the restaurant was decorated beautifully. Highly recommend. It is expensive but worth it.

Good food, pleasant service, lacking Italian atmosphere...

Awful service, gave a vegan a meat dish and then proceeded to make the same mistake again by giving a cows milk coffee despite checking with the waiter. Had to check up on dessert due to the wait time. Upon paying the bill we asked to split it in 2 and were overcharged by £45. No apologies or effort to make up for the mistakes. Shame as this has a potential to be a lovely restaurant but let down by careless and unapologetic staff who have no concern for allergies.

Lovely atmosphere and fast friendly service... Food was lovely too would enjoy coming back here again. Had plenty of hi chairs and activity colouring to keep little one happy and occupied. Very clean with tasteful decor 👌

If you like your pizza overpriced and really burnt, to the point that it tastes like charcoal, then sure. But otherwise I would steer clear, as I will in the future.

Food was lovely and nice sized portions. The prices are reasonable considering the lovely location. Staff were helpful and attentive.. Would be nice if there was a separate area for takeaway pickup as I personally don't like people staring at me whilst I'm eating.

A very poor experience which showed a lack of care for their customers. Arrived 11 minutes late to my 4:30 reservation today to be told that “they can sit us but they won’t take my food order as the kitchen is closed” despite online saying that the kitchen does not close until 5pm. Also tables are held for 15 minutes following the reservation time. The team member was huffing and puffing at us with extreme attitude when asked why they would accept my reservation / not contact me if they were to have closed the kitchen. Then after going to speak to someone the team member woman picked up menus, again while huffing and puffing, before telling us that a lot of stuff is out of stock - and for a Sunday menu this included roast potatoes. Ultimately we walked out and was left disappointed. Will not be returning

Don't say that you are closing at 23:00 if you close your kitchen at 21:00 !!!!! Rude staff, awfull welcoming, unfortunately the location is too beautiful, but it's ashame that you hired this kind of people!!!!!

We celebrated my mums 60th birthday here and it was so lovely. We were given a fab semi-private area which is always nice! The food was amazing and service was great, we put in a pre-order and they were so organised with who had what when they brought it to the table. All the way up until the booking they were responsive via email or phone when I called to explain dietary requirements and ask any questions. Thank you!

Great night celebrating my 51st birthday, great entertainment, service was excellent and food was amazing especially the chocolate fondant with honey comb and ice cream, such a good place to go and atmosphere was superb. Staff are so friendly and helpful

I wanted to have my baby’s birthday there and I proceeded with the procedure for booking for around 20 persons in advance. Till 4-5 days before the day of birthday they changed 3 different points of our previosly agreed discussions. 1.at first I had an email for X£ price and they wanted to change it to 2X £ ( it does not matter as if we were 20 people choosing from the menu it would be spend more than 1000£ but only the idea ) 2. We agreed for having lunch at 1 pm and they changed it after 3. We agreed to send options of buffet or otherwise we could choose from menu too and these has been mentioned even at the communications with emails but only 2-3 days before birthday date they said that they can not offer choosing from menu only buffet type of service. That was very stressful just a few days before first birthday of our first baby. Honestly did not expected this from this kind of restaurant.

Not many options for gluten and dairy free dietary requirements, and what is available is not very tasty.

Great location, great food and great service. It's nice to have the lake to walk off some of the food.

Great venue, friendly staff, very good food, strongly recommended. The gluten free pizzas are extremely generous, unlike the kid-sized ones you get from Pizza Express etc.

We went for an early evening meal on New Year's Eve. The atmosphere was great, even though we didn't stay late. When we went there was a slightly reduced menu to their usual offered but we really enjoyed the dishes we had. Service was polite and very swift. Decor was great as were the drinks! We also enjoyed proximity to the lake. Would go back.

Diappointed with the quality of the food. Simply not good enough .It was Christmas lunch for which we paid a lot of money. Would not do it again.

Our family (ages 1 to 94!)had Christmas dinner here. The food and service were excellent. It was a real party with singing and dancing along to the entertainment. We all thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon 🎄🎄🎄🍾🍾🍾🍾

Our first experience was amazing, what a lovely evening with live music, we were greeted with a smile and taken to our table. We felt slightly disappointed when the vegetable sides did not arrive, the sauce was wrong and no one came to ask how our food was during our meal despite walking past our table three times, yes the restaurant was busy and full but room for improvement. Once our plates were cleared and I feedback we were offered money off the bill which was great. The food was excellent really tasty, good portion side, hot and could not fault that. We will definitely go back and try more items on the menu:-)

Good choice of food, from Italian to steak. Very fancy restaurant! The decor and atmosphere is really posh. I believe there is an upstairs dining area with lake view as well as the downstairs, which is where we sat. It is on the pricey side however we'll worth it for a special night out.

Thank you for such a beautifully decorated site with great views. The restaurant overlooks the Furzton Lake and has so many parking slots that are free. The food was delicious and because there were a few people, we had a pre-booked order service which I found to be effective. There is a bar so you can have as many drinks as you wish. Ongoing works on site which means it's a bit colder as the doors are constantly being open and shut I found the service a bit unsynchronized but still ok. The menu is not restrictive and quite a few options available. I would probably return in the summer to see the spectacular views from the restaurant😊

What a wonderful experience for my birthday dinner, the food incredible, the drinks were always flowing and the overall vibe was family friendly.

Place looks lovely, food looks delicious. Although our food came cold and seeing pizza man pouring sauce from Heinz bucket doesn't look good. When we told waiters that our food was cold all we got was, ohhh sorry. Not a good experience

My bf took me there on my birthday, and i have positive impression about the visit. Beautiful place, especially if you sit by the window, you have view of the lake. The trees inside add charm and flowers at the entrance. Food delicious especially desserts. I recommend.

I like the food here, the service is good and the venue itself is a bit different, being right on the lake. Glad they are pouring an IPA now, and the wine selection works well with the menu.

Food fab plenty of it too. Service good lovely looking place and you get live entertainment during the week.

A new Italian restaurant, beautiful, tasteful decor, food delicious!!! Not that expensive, will certainly be going again.

Stylish decor with a lovely view over Furzton Lake. Big public car park and free, which is a bonus these days. Friendly staff, but if I'm honest, they weren't the most 'on point' team I've come across, especially once it was clear that food service was over. There was about a third of the place still with guests seated, but it seemed like just one lady was overlooking everyone, which is quite a lot for one person. We ordered the bolognese pasta, a regular pizza, and a gluten-free pizza. We all enjoyed our meals. The pasta dish could have been a little larger in its portion size. The pizzas were of a lovely size with an ample amount of toppings. I was impressed with the GF pizza base. Tasty and not crumbling/ falling apart, which is what I've come to normally experience. A pleasant meal and experience but it was sadly let down by some of the worst coffee that I've come across in a long time. Very watery, very little coffee flavour. 3 black Americano's. It was mentioned to the waitress looking after us, who did apologise and got us 3 new ones, which took nearly 15 minutes to replace, only to be given similar coffees but were now so over filled that it spilled into the saucer. A sad way to finish a pleasant time. Coffee lovers and Italians would be very sad at this. I'll go back but I won't have a coffee

Excellent food and service relaxed atmosphere

Sunday lunch menu is limited. We didn't visit looking for a roast, so the reduction in the normal menu was a bit disappointing. I had roast lamb, which was pretty decent, although the side order of cauliflower cheese was disappointing. I'm not sure why we had to listen to a musician at lunchtime. It wasn't the reason for going and didn't seem necessary and, at times, was overwhelming. Added nothing to the ambience and was an unnecessary expense, we would suggest to the management. Staff were a bit casual. We had to suggest that eating dessert with serving spoons was a little inappropriate. Apple crumble was tasty. Pricing seemed fair.

Beautiful restaurant and great customer service. Perfectly nice steak, parmesan fries is a must have. I'll definitely be there again.

Great Atmosphere. A decent place for celebratory event. Food is ok nothing exceptional. Service is good with small hiccups . Missed order, cutlery not replaced...but manageable. Value for money? The jury is out for this.

What can I say !! I can say for sure that last Sunday we went here with 2 friends who recommended Sul Lago, we were not disappointed the Burrato/ Parmalat Ham starter was delicious, my crab linguine was spot on as was everyone else's meal. Jessica our waitress was lovely, it was busy but we were looked after from start to finish, just disappointed we couldn't manage a sweet!! Well done to you Calvin ( I hope I have your name right) on a wonderful restaurant in a beautiful setting, see you all very soon.

Beautiful venue, fabulous food but we kept getting other people’s orders delivered to our table. The restaurant was full so appreciate the staff were busy but a little attention to more effective processes would have meant a five star review.

We came to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we had a table booked inside , but the view outside was just so beautiful we ate outside and watched the sun go down good food and good service added to a brilliant evening .

Very nice atmosphere. The service was ok but a bit slow with getting the drinks and food out. The starters were probably the best dishes. My only criticism for the starters was that the arancini were dry, and i think this was because they could have been made a little smaller, so when they are cooked, they don't dry out. The mains weren't the best, I ordered slow cooked beef ragu, which came out tasting very bland, and the beef quality was appaulling, it tasted like the meat was cooked frozen mincemeat. They replaced my main with a lasagne, which tasted loads better, but again, the meat quality let the dish down.

Locate close to firzton lake/river, which offers a lovely after-meal walk. Service was good, starters were lovely, main course could be better in my opinion, I got carbonara but the parmesan was already added to it when served to the table, I'm lactose intolerance but didn't want to bother people to ask for a new portion, my daughter had chicken spinach pasta, the chicken was over cooked. Food prices was reasonable. I most like the atomsphere, the live singing was really good. Don't forget to go for that walk after food!!

Visited at 6pm on 19/10/23 as a group of 5, and very glad we booked earlier in the week! This place was very busy even on a weekday, so would 100% recommend booking in advance to avoid missing out. You do not want to miss out on this place! From the decor, service and food, Sul Lago ticked all the boxes! We all tried different dishes (including one vegetarian option)- all were delicious and every plate was left empty. Menu is changed seasonly, so always great options available without being samey. Next time I'll make sure I save room for pudding, as these also looked delicious. Staff were very attentive and food was served in good time, despite how busy it was. There was live music too, a singer/guitarist, which was at the perfect volume to enjoy but still be able to hear each other. Would highly recommend this place, I'd heard good things about it before and it exceeded expectations. We'll be back for sure!

The restaurant is BEAUTIFUL and the service is very friendly and excellent. The food was a little disappointing, it was nice and enjoyed the meal but it was a bit bland and lacked flair. Felt like I could have made it at home.

Amazing place, very nicely furnished, fantastic food and excellent service, Lorna was especially attentive and super efficient. All in all it was an excellent meal and great value.

The setting, ambience, venue and staff are all impeccable (especially Lorna who was a terrific waitress - she gave us such amazing service). Amazing choice of drinks and the menu has a great choice, however the food was good but not as solid as I'd expect for the money spent. There are other Italian restaurants in the nearby area thar execute on the food slightly better.

Beautiful restaurant close to Furzton Lake and park. Spacious... with the light coming through the broad glass windows creating a lovely ambiance during the day. In the evening/night, the combination of the aura and decor feels rich, warm and elegant . The food looks great and tastes even better. The service is really good with warm, friendly and engaging staff. I have had lunch and dinner there few times, and I highly recommend.

Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant in MK. The service is unmatched. The staff truly cares about your experience. The food is absolutely amazing – everything we tasted melted in other mouths. Absolutely the best meal we had in a while in MK. Rio, our waiter was prompt, smart, caring, and knowledgable about the food. And he just had this friendly demeanor about him that made us both happy. Highly recommend!

We have Been 5 times and always been good today it wasn’t we were there for our daughters birthday started badly when they sat us we waited a while for drinks the starters were ok but the mains were slow both bolognaise were cold to be fair they offered replacement and adjusted the bill but it wasn’t good

I had a very amazing birthday lunch at this place. Our servers were Harry and Daniella they gave really great customer service and the atmosphere was also on the point. I would like to say big thanks to the kitchen staff as well, for their very delicious and very appetising looking meals. Definitely will recommend this place and visit it again myself!

Beautiful birthday meal with our family last night a great table overlooking the lake as the sun set, the staff were so attentive from the moment we arrived and the food was absolutely delicious would highly recommend

Gorgeous newish Italian restaurant with amazing views out over the lake and spectacular skies in the evening. Inside is well decorated with a large artificial tree dominating downstairs. The food is great and I had the best carbonara I've ever had in the UK here. They are also open on a morning for those walking round the lake with generous portions of cake to add to your brew. I did drop a star from atmosphere as we last went on a Friday evening and the music was a lot louder and more like a bar in town than a suburban restaurant so conversation was that little bit harder, but overall a very easy place to recommend.

Arrived just before 7 on a Saturday evening and the restaurant was buzzing, which is usually a good sign, especially when it’s your first visit. The service was great with an abundance of waiting staff who were all friendly and attentive, especially Jessica who was our particular waitress. We ordered our starters, calamari and Halloumi fries which arrived promptly. Both were delicious. Our main courses were chicken thighs and swordfish, again delicious. The portions are quite large, so had we known this before we probably wouldn’t have ordered starters! Couldn’t manage desserts! Jessica explained that they have live events on some evenings so we will check it out on the website and will definitely book again!

Had a fabulous meal here (13/02) Although extremely busy (buzzy ambience contributing to an already fab vibe), we were looked after superbly by Martin & staff. Considering the many abysmal alternatives (all except The Greedy Italian), if you want a classy & romantic, lakeside venue serving good Italian food & providing excellent service, Sul Lago is in the top 2 Italian Restaurants to go to in Milton Keynes.

Great spot to sit outside and enjoy the view of Furzton lake with a glass of something (haven't tried the food) - staff in the "beer tent" very helpful

Highly recommend this Italian, I would say most definitely the most authentic Italian outside of London. The owner has a gem here! Have to mention Lorna what a superb and attentive waitress! Didn’t have a starter but will next time! The sea bass and chicken were perfecto! Will be back soon! Live music on a Tuesday too! Spot on!

First time to visit Sul Lago - lovely location on the lake. Beautifully decorated inside. Lively atmosphere on a Saturday night, a little noisy perhaps but we could still chat at our table. All our food was delicious and fairly priced, but the stand out for me was the excellent service we received from the waiting staff. They were on their A game. It was busy, but they were always on hand at exactly the right time when we needed them, without being intrusive. They were polite and courteous and all seemed to be very well trained and all knew their job. It made such a refreshing change to really feel looked after at our table, and we had a very enjoyable evening.

Visited today for my wedding anniversary and husband’s birthday, Millie was absolutely fabulous. From her service, to her recommendations & even going the extra mile for us. We felt very special and she took super good care of us, can’t recommend this place enough as the service was wonderful and the food was great!!

I don’t normally write reviews but I thought I would for this restaurant due to their excellent customer service. The staff were amazing and attentive. I attended this restaurant with some friends and the atmosphere was amazing. I barely touch my main at the end. The staff member noted this and asked if it tasted good. I mentioned it was “good” but she again asked me if I was sure and I mentioned it tasted slightly on the bland side which is why I had not ate much. She immediately offered to get it deducted from the bill as I had not touched the food. I thought it was so kind of Emily to go out of her way and email me the next day to mentioned that she had not taken the pasta off my bill and that she was happy to process this.

Amazing view of the Furzton Lake, the most beautiful sunset that you could catch in MK, lots of seating in the summer - indoor and outdoor, and a breath taking ambience will make your day at this restaurant. They had several veggie options as well which worked very well for me. I paired my dishes with a crisp apple cider from their elaborate drinks menu. Pizzas are to die for!

Best Food and Service in amazing atmosphere

Nice location by the lake, food is good but I advise booking and if sitting outside the service is a lot slower as they prioritise inside.

Came here for my son's 16th birthday. Positives: Great seats by the window giving us a lovely view of the lake. Service was quick. Negatives: Portion sizes could be bigger. There were no prices on their menu's. Realised why when we received our bill and the main meals were 25% more then stated on their website. We won't be returning.
