Visited The Indus for my Mum’s Birthday. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Very attentive staff, delicious food and great service! Wished my mum Happy Birthday and even sang Happy Birthday for all the restaurant to sing! Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will certainly be coming again in the future. FIVE STAR ALL ROUND!!

We ordered a takeaway and we had the best Indian currya that we have ever eaten. Lovely food and will definitely order again.

Working out of town at Doncaster racecourse local to here as im actually from Birmingham Got recommended this place by a few tradesman I know who live local Hands down one of the best curries I've had in a good while & being quite picky in a general sense they happily altered my chicken & potato balti to remove ingredients I didn't like The food was absolutely spot on & the service aswell by the lad who served me & the one female bar staff yesterday (17/08/21) was an absolute pleasure When I'm next up here I definitely plan on returning 😌 If you want an actual tasty curry with an excellent level of service then go here

went on the 30th march had lamb chop starter along with samosa starter both first class mains were chicken saag and lamb saag both were spot on in fact as good as any curry I have had in the curry capital Bradford the only problem was the portions were large (not a problem really) the service from the staff was excellent - you could not have asked for better was a little reticent to try after reading some of the negative reviews in my opinion take very little notice of them GREAT FOOD AND EXCELLENT SERVICE

avoid Looking at previous reviews I am clearly not alone with reference to standard of food I dont claim to be any food critic but I have eaten in some fine restaurants and some average. This is clearly way below average. Their spice selection is very subject to balance and is on a chefs personal choice.not palatable at all. over priced not recommended at all

We booked a table for 4 adults during a short stay at the hotel across the road road. The food was atrocious. Have always enjoyed it curry meal wherever we’ve travelled in the UK, Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds Edinburgh, Bristol, Norwich, Bournemouth etc. My wife ordered a prawn saag which was salty yet tasteless. This was changed for a prawn tikka masala which was also dreadful. It was no better than a jar of flavourless sauce poured over a few prawns. Absolutely tasteless, no taste of cumin, coriander, paprika, ginger or any spice whatsoever. My chicken korma was equally uninspiring, again it tasted like pieces of over cooked meat bathed in sauce from a jar. What a disaster. Probably the worse Indian restaurant I’ve ever visited, definitely the most unauthentic.

I booked the meal for 6 people in January for a date in March - The boking was accepted. At the beginning of March received a phone call from them telling me they had realised it was a race day and had decided to offer a set menu would that be ok. I said yes and received the email as promised with the menu. A few days later I received another call telling me that they had realised that it was a race day and they were running a set menu .... i explained they had also called and i had received the menu and i asked when they needed the choices by - i was told as long as it was there the day before that would be fine. A few days later I received another call telling me the same - again i politely explained that they had called before but i did confirm again that it was ok to get the choices back by the day before - this was again confirmed. On the 21st March (5 days before the booking) I received another call to ask me for a deposit - I challenged this by asking why was i not told that a deposit was needed (i could have collected from my party) before now and Asked to speak to the Owner John (after receiving really poor service until now I thought he should be made aware of this) I was rudely told I'm Jons Wife and I'm in charge !!!! I said ok i will pay the deposit as this is a special occasion which has been booked for 3 months but had it not have been i wouldn't. I was placed on a short hold and Told Your booking has been cancelled. I followed up by email and was told They were bothered about my comments and as they had a wait list decided to cancel the booking. I should have been told when i made the original booking in January that this was a raceday and normal service would not be available - I should have been told that a deposit was needed in any one of the 4 touchpoints before the demand on the 21st - I should have the right to express my unhappiness (which was done professionally) when a service is sub par.

Visited last night ordered drinks first only had the most expensive Rosie available , ordered starters Very nice , fetched main meal before starter plates removed hence quite a lot of dishes and plates on the table, the main meal was awful we all had different dishes ,but all looked the same lamb chewy and tasted awful that was the same for all 5 of us services was terrible no one came near to see if everything was OK, and we couldn't get the attention of any of the staff

My husband and I stayed here when attending the Doncaster races. This hotel is a perfect location for the races and it’s virtually on the doorstep. We only ate here on our last evening and the food was just superb! We love a curry and have ate many but this has got to be the most beautiful Indian food we have ever tasted. Every mouthful was just heaven and the service was outstanding. And it was reasonably priced too. Definitely eat here and nowhere else.

Absolutely first class restaurant. The staff are amazing very friendly & nothing is too much trouble. The food is beautiful so fresh & the portions are huge. We were having a family celebration for my sons 18th & they really looked after us. On member of our party doesn't like Indian food & had a plain steak which he said was a fantastic quality which is not always the case in restaurants. They also make amazing ice creams on the premises. Excellent value for money.

A warm welcome from the moment we arrived, attentive service even on a Saturday evening and a lovely family atmosphere. The food came in generous portions and the quality was exceptional. Genuinely felt like each dish was crafted to order and a high end feel. If you are looking for mass produced, garishly coloured, microwaved fare then this isn’t the place for you. If you are looking for great service and high quality food I can highly recommend it.

Had a meal here last night as we had booked into the hotel. Never had indian food before as I thought it would be too spicy. They were so accommodating from the start helping me choose a dish I would like. The starters were massive and the mains were unbelievable. The flavours were amazing. All credit to the chef. The man waiting on us was brill too. Nothing too much trouble. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definatly be back

Decor is a decent conversion from the St. Leger Hotel. Initial greeting and service from Terri was pleasant. This meant that it was undercooked in the middle. I tried to give feedback about it just generally being uncessarily large but the manager/owner hides away in back room snickering with his 2 young daughters/servers. We were offered no side plates and had to ask to be able to eat out starters not off the sizzling plates. Mains. One in our party ordered a med rare Indian steak which came out overdone, this was perfectly rectified by exchanging and cooking fresh. The main issue was sat with our mains on serving plates with no serving cutlery or plates until we found someone in the back to bring us them. Naan bread is a no go, it comes out genuinely like pizza. It's a congealed, microwaved disaster. They would benefit from buying in naan rather than attempting to make their own. Currys just flat tastes although chicken kebab dish was tender and nicely spiced. Service. It's evident it just lacks leadership. There's no manager in the restaurant to make decisions. It's a male owner, his wife running the kitchen, and his 2 daughters serving in school uniform. Theres no communication or leadership given we were constantly asked the same question by each member of staff. 'E.g is your food okay?' at least 5 times about mains. I asked to discuss with the manager as the young server had already had to deal with many complaints that evening and you could see it was getting to her. We were told the manager has stepped outside and will be back in 20 minutes. We obviously had point of discussion about the bill due to the fact we had barely eaten anything, and we were being charged for a starter we didn't have. Generally we just wanted to give this review, in person to the manager to improve the restaurant. Here's where the real 'red flag' problems arise. We were forced to pay for the full bill, including the incorrect starter as the manager is the only one that can authorise discounts. We were given an email address. Throughout the meal the young girls in school uniform were laughing and staring at us when coming out the kitchen. When we left we could see the owner in the back overflow restaurant, laughing with his young daughters. Not only is this an issue to me because he refused to come and speak to his paying guests, but because he cannot support and back up his team. They needed his support not only to ensure service ran effectively, but to deal with the 4/5 tables that complained about their meal. He instead quite literally hid, laughing about the complaints to his daughters about complaining guests as he took full price for their meals which given his demeanor through the window, was more than happy to do. Family restaurants deserve all the support in the world after the pandemic, this place does not. I urge the members of staff not related to the owner to find other hospitality positions as your manager unfortunately does not care for your well-being or his guests.

Such a lovely family owned business. We were greeted by the lovely young servers who were a real delight to talk to. We used to go to the old Indus and we had to try our old favourite which was the Karahi kebab. This was even better than the old Indus. We wanted our Karahi lamb madras hot and the jalfrezi quite mild. Nothing was too much trouble. If you are looking for a traditional delicious Indian curry then this is the place. You could taste the freshness in every dish. The blend of spices is just perfection. Such a lovely evening enjoyed by our entire family.

The waiting staff were very good and the decor is nice. However I don’t know if the chef was off or something, but the food was atrocious. The pilau rice was brown and stodgy and the Nan bread was completely flat and tasted awful. I can honestly say a supermarket Nan would of been 10 times better. The jalfrezi was edible.

Family of 5 ordered several mains. Not one meal that could be eaten between us. Terrible korma in particular. The rest just tasted the same, brown hot mush. No flavour. Certainly would not go back.

Absolutely beautiful chicken bhuna, the rice and nann bread was also amazing. Definitely recommend this restaurant especially if you are staying in the hilton Hotel across the road.

I don’t know where to start it was that bad. Not one edible mouthful which is quite hard to achieve. Smelly fish curry. Korma that reminded me of dishwater. Response from management was we didn’t know what ‘authentic’ tasted like. And rude with it which is mind boggling. And that was their customer service right there. Worst place I’ve ever eaten. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.

It has to be said the Indus restaurant in Silver street Doncaster was excellent, and on the strength of that we thought it was high time we visited it’s new location within the Grand St Leger hotel, especially as it boasts to recreate some of it’s most popular original dishes. The onion Bhaji starter was huge and under cooked, chicken Karahi was completely inedible far too hot and spicy, as was the chicken dopiaza despite asking for it to be mild, we were given some natural yoghurt and advised to try adding it to the dish. Total waste of time and money, will not be going back.

The food was fantastic! I have never been so happy with the food I was served. Portions are a very good size and well presented. We had starters and mains, both were absolutely delicious. The staff are very kind and helpful, they all had a positive attitude and always managed to accommodate to our preferences. Lovely atmosphere and cannot wait to go back soon!

Well where do I start. The food was devine! We had a mixed starter for 2. was sublime. Very spicy I impressed myself that I was able to eat it with how spicy it was as I'm pretty pathetic when it comes to spice. Main meals I had a lamb fruity and o my god what an amazing balance of flavours the lamb was cooked too perfection. Very enjoyable especially after such a spicy starter. My partner had a chicken naag... I think it was called extreamly hot. We did have left overs as the portions are very generous but staff had no issues supply us with boxes so we could box it up to bring home. I've had mine for my breakfast and omg still amazing! The staff were friendly and very happy to help and talk to you. Now I've been once I will deffo be back again. Thankyou for a fab and much well needed night out for us both. ❤️❤️

Very disappointed really spoilt the birthday surprise. Shocking it took lots of planning to get here and alot of money .Sat waiting for our table 1hr and 25 mins .when we finally got our table and ordered our starter...5 mins later we was told there is at least an half our delay on food . 2 hrs and 25 mins later had to walk out .happy birthday.,....IT WASN'T ....ANYTHING TO SAY OR COMMENT ON MANAGER OR OWNER .your restaurant really spoiled our night

Not nice, over priced and not a good variety menu. The onion bhaji was supposed to be a starter. It was bigger than the plate and wasn't presented nice it wasn't a patch of the original Indus. I won't be going back.

Fantastic night out with family for my wifes birthday but to be honest the food was awful and shocked how overpriced the meal was..its not a patch on the old Indus..only plus was the lovely staff..Dower house and Nur is far cheaper and much better food..we wont be going back again

Had the most amazing family meal here 2 weeks ago.The food was lovely and the staff very atentive.They have the largest Onion Bargee I have ever seen !! Will definatly be going again soon.

Long wait to be seated. Waited 40 minutes after arriving on time for our booking. Both our dishes swimming in oil, disappointing peshwari naan bread which was just a flat bread with dessicated coconut sprinkled on the top. Average food for a high price. Average dish price £14 (I had lamb bhuna) which everywhere else I've been has been approx £9. Good to try new places but now we've been once we won't be back

Waited an hour for food despite pre ordering. Bill came with over £60 of additions and no sign of deposit we had put down. After 3 attempts we agreed on the bill. Paid with a mixture of cash and card which was apparently 25p short. They came and caught us before leaving to get the 25p. Very disappointed.

Visiting Doncaster, Indus was a great choice not far from local hotel. Food was great, lamb chops particularly good. Great portion size, naans are definitely for sharing! A fair amount of large groups on our visit, staff did well to cope with volume of food and orders coming out. Would recommend.

Great service, fantastic food, really well decorated throughout. From the moment you step through the door to the moment you leave you are treated like a VIP. Great staff and some of the best curries I have tasted in a long time.

We had a 3 course meal and it was outstanding.. The food was to die for. The waiters and waitresses couldn't do enough for us .. The decor and the atmosphere was excellent. Well worth a visit.. This definitely won't be our last visit here.. X

It looks drab and uninviting on the outside, being on the edge of a building site doesn't help, but inside the setting is sumptuous, the service excellent, and the meal, one of the best I've had for a long time and all at a very reasonable price.

Absolutely fabulous takeaway last night. The karahi chicken and the jalfrezi were to die for. Being an old Indus customer I can truly say you have outdone yourselves. The karahi kebab and kulfi are even better than the original Indus

First review i have ever done but had to write this as it was the poorest curry i have eaten . Over priced chicken and babyfood . Do yourself a favour and drive extra 5 mins to Elachi you wont be disappointed 😡😡

Limited menu at the moment, but all ingredients really fresh and cooked to order. Not your run of the mill Indian but it has its own unique take on well known dishes. Excellent really enjoyed the food.

Disappointing meal as remember the original Indus restaurant in Doncaster and this did not live up to its name. Waiter had minimal knowledge and had to keep going to ask the chef. Out of 5 people only 2 enjoyed their dishes. Unfortunately won't be going back as is there is other much better indians in Doncaster.

Forgotten just how good well cooked and beautifully presented Indian food can be after home cooked ready meals. Quality ingredients; the lamb in both the lamb tikka and karahi was melt in the mouth. First visit but won't be the last.

We booked in for a meal at 6pm on Fri 11th Sept, despite one of our party running late we weren't rushed to get to our table and instead offered drinks in the bar. The waiting staff were knowledgeable about the menu and happy to advise on portion sizes and options when asked. The food was absolutely delicious and the portion sizes were enough for me not to be able to finish it. After our meal we went back into the bar for more drinks. It was the perfect long overdue catch-up with friends. We will definitely be returning. Thank you Indus

Really mediocre food. If you go to any supermarket and choose a curry off the shelf, this will be very similar. Didn't taste authentic at all. The staff were great though.

Terrible service, hardly any meat in any curry, three out of the five of us couldn't have the drink we wanted. Emailed the restaurant regarding the really poor service, didn't even get an acknowledgement. Wouldn't go back

Food was excellent but the wine was more than disappointing. Paid £17.95 for a bottle of zinfandel which was 8% alcohol . Didn't state this anywhere in the menu. Want to run a good restaurant, serve good wine with it

Good service lovely restaurant but food let it down im afraid . Wouldnt rush back in a hurry there are many more indian restaurants that would give this a run for its money . Rather tasteless and main course curry was watery . Sorry if i seem harsh but would rather give an honest opinion

Really good food, friendly service, but packing people in....

The worst curry I've had for a long time. I've had better Vesta curries out of a box in the 70's, absolutely diabolical. You wouldn't believe how wrong they could actually get it. Poppadoms were out of a packet, tandoori bland chicken, no flavour no good use of easily obtainable spices. Lamb jalfrezzi tasted as dull as dishwater. Supermarket microwave curries are 10 times better. The chef needs to get their act together or they'll go bust because why would you want to go back to bland land. Staff great and attentive, place looks nice but I'd rather the food be better . Don't waste your money until they get their act together. If they get a proper chef they might stand a chance in these difficult times and climate - 1/10 from me and that's being kind.

Deco is average, sorry to say the food and service is very poor! This place has NOTHING to do with the INDUS in conisbrough. So guys please don’t get confused if u have a bad experience in hear!

First visit yesterday for the first time. Alarm bells started to ring immediately no covid 19 warning signs does don'ts anywhere to be seen. No sociial distancing advise.Hand sanitizer was the only indication that we are in this terrible situation. Asked to see a wine menu to be told we dont have one. Chose a bottle of wine recommended by staff which was a very nice and reasonably priced. Ordered 4 x starters which again were very nice. Ordered 4 x main course of which 2 had to be sent back due to being undercooked. After 10 minutes wait we eventually recieved our main courses. These were served on cold plates. We decided this was not acceptable and returned these to the kitchen. So a most anticipated enjoyable evening was spoilt with only 2 of the 4 people receiving an edible meal. We asked to speak to the manager to be told he was not in the building whilst i could see him in the kitchen. All we wished to do was give constructive feedback to help return this restaurant to the icon it once was. The front of house staff were excellent on the night and very embarrassed about the situation. Had the Indus spent a few minutes listening to our feedback on the night would have stopped me writing this unfortunate review and considering wether to make my feelings known to the HSE for its lack of Covid 19 advise and instructions.

Nice food, but the place seems to be trying to be above its station a little. Trying to be a really posh place but not quite pulling it off. My food was great, but the vegans in our group were let down, the little choice they had was unavailable. This place needs a lot of money spent on it to become the place it wants to be.

Just had a beautiful meal with my family celebrating my daughter's 13th Birthday. Katherine, Ryan, and Paul thank you so much for making it special. The food and service was first class. Will be back again.

We had booked Christmas Day lunch for 9 people 2019. We sat down and all had a starter some had pate there were 3 big wedges of pate and only two tiny pieces of bread so had to ask for more bread and also no water on the table. They brought 2 main meals out but no veg or gravy then waitress came back and said those meals were for another table but they left them we then waited 10 minutes before the rest of the mains were served and it became very disjointed the veg they brought was raw. When they came to serve the desert the table had not been cleared of dirty plates and glasses. They kept apologising and brought us a free bottle of Prosecco and a round of drinks but it did not compensate for the very poor service we received and it ruined the day so we asked for a refund and we got £100 eventually on January 13th 2020. We will never go again and certainly would not recommend it.

Good food, and served freshly cooked and hot.

Terrible seafood platter, the crab left a bitter taste in your mouth, the king prawns were dirty and rubbery and there was broken shells in the mussel pot! My partner ordered the chicken burger and it came out cold with a broken bun and poorly cobbled together! For the price of the meal, we were very least impressed! The one star is for half decent rustic chips but other then that would avoid! I complained, and no discount or gesture was given just the bill and the card reader! Bad business, I wouldn't of even minded a good willed mint to cleanse my less than satisfied palette!
