A beautiful restaurant and delicious Punjabi food. Plenty of vegetarian options (the paneer lawabdar was the best I've had!), and the owner was really friendly and helpful. Very reasonably-priced too, especially for this quality of food. A lovely evening all round.

This isn't the usual Indian meal experience. The building is beautiful and the decor really nice. I like the small rooms. The food is great, very tasty and the service is all good. However, last night we went with friends and the bill was more than we had expected it to be. The 'offer' of the £25 per head isn't very clear. It's not written in the menu and our waiter didn't make it clear what would be charged for. We didn't over order and were considerate not to waste food. Only two of us were drinking yet the bill was £186 for 4 people. I had a nice evening with good food and service but considering it should have been £25 per head for food I left feeling a bit disappointed. We will return and will recommend the restaurant but will be more cautious next time.

So refreshing to find authentic punjabi cuisine locally. Must be best Indian meal I've had in Essex. So reminiscent of food I've had in India. Great value too, fixed price menu includes free refills. Owner so friendly and chatty, deserves to do well. Highly recommended.

I had a ovely meal with friends at the restaurant last night. The food was delicious, Punjabi cuisine and I loved the difference to the Indian restaurant food I am used to. It was also very reasonably priced. There were equal lists of non vegetarian and vegetarian starters and mains. The manager was attentive, friendly and a delight to speak to about the food and restaurant. The new decor was also beautiful inside and we hear the garden will be open soon. I will definitely be back for more.

Wow what a lovely experience. Such a beautiful ornate restaurant. Felt very grand sitting in there. The food was lovely. Quite different to most Indian food we’ve eaten. Such fresh ingredients, extremely tasty and delicious flavours! Be sure to ask for poppadoms and chutney. While not on the menu, they were delicious! £4 for a lime and soda was a little too much, but other than that everything was great! The Manager is a total delight, extremely knowledgeable and incredibly professional and polite. We would come again in a heartbeat. Hope you enjoyed your special trip! ❤️❤️❤️

Fabulous fresh tasting curry. We stuck with the deal - starter, curry, rice and naan for £25, refill as much as you like. It was amazing. Beautiful building and lovely decor are perfectly complimented by the polite, friendly yet unobtrusive staff. But you eat here for the quality of the food, and this was the best I have had for many years. True Punjabi, so a bit different to normal Indian, but everything was brilliantly cooked and bursting with amazing flavours. Highly recommended.

Went last night with friends . The food was amazing . Extremely tasty and plenty of it . As the food is prepared from scratch each time you could pick how spicy/hot you wanted . Service was great too . All knowledgeable about the menu . Would definitely recommend .

We thought the food was lush, a different take on most Indian foods and we particularly enjoyed the starters. Ryan was very personable and informative. Our only complaint would be the pricing of the wine. We ordered a NZ Sauvignon Blanc and usually they apparently serve something called Southern Lights unknown to us however this was not available so we received Wairau Cove which we know and love costs max £8.50 from Tescos this we paid £28 for! Just saying the Balti Bhujon serve Villa Maria (£10.50 from Tescos) and charge £17.

What a fantastic find! Proper authentic Punjab Indian food, and with a mid week special of basically an all you can eat (a starter, main, rice and naan) for £20 each. Staff were very attentive and guide you through all sorts dishes and the spice levels you can handle. Very much worth a try and not your usual Indian, miles better.

Went there for a birthday meal. Food was ok apart from my main course. I ordered a Jalfrezi. The kitchen asked me how spicy I would like it, either Madras or Vindaloo strength. I played safe, as I had not been to the restaurant before, and went for Madras strength. The dish that arrived was far more spicy than any Madras or Vindaloo I had previously eaten, and I couldn’t eat it. Apart from that, the food was ok. Different ambiance than we are used to at an Indian restaurant too. The background music was simply piano music, until a professional singer arrived singing Amy Winehouse songs. Very different! Overall, an average experience, at a much higher than average price.

The food we enjoyed was very good, apart from the naan breads that disappointed us. The non-vegetarian starters are over priced. The wine selection is a little disappointing. There are no poppadoms listed on the menu although we saw others being served them. They were not offered to us. Service, though polite and friendly was completely unacceptable due to delays. We booked for 8pm and it was almost 10:30 before our main courses appeared. We had to delay our taxi home and even then we had insufficient time to order desserts and/or coffee. We were made aware at the end of the meal that there was a staffing issue. This should have been shared at the beginning, to minimise the disappointment. It will be a long time before we return to this place, due to these timing issues. Disappointing.

We were there for New Year’s Eve and it was fantastic, the food was superb, the singer was great, so all in all a great evening. The cuisine was high end, though very reasonably priced. My roasted and spiced cauliflower was perfectly cooked, with a great taste and texture. My lobster tail main dish was cooked to perfection and the choice of spices was inspired. I’d highly recommend a visit. The two cooks, waiting staff and manager did a fabulous job looking after us. Hopefully be back up to visit again and try something different next time. Best of luck to all the staff.

Made to feel very welcome , was given a choice of table either quiet or entertainment . Our host was quick to explain the varied menu and to find out our tastes, whether we prefered hot, spicy or mild and most dishes could be adjusted to your taste. Food was delicious and good sized portions. Will definitely go again.

Our first visit last Saturday as now being The Indian Chef. Staff very welcoming and attentive. The new owner explained the cuisine and menu to us in a friendly and helpful manner. The food was excellent and full of flavour and at under £70 a couple (including decent wine) we felt great value. We will definitely be back soon. Steve and Bridget.

This place was previously The Chutney House. Unfortunately they haven’t kept to the same standards as previous owners. The menu is limited and expensive. Meat or fish starters, cost around £17. The salmon tikka was dry and not much of it. Paneer starters cheaper but too much sauce. The mains was okay, you only need one rice unless you’re a big eater. The waitress had her hair down, we didn’t think that was very professional, considering they are serving food. The Manager wasn’t very personable and didn’t really make you feel welcome. Unfortunately we won’t be going back.

Have been looking for a good Indian place and finally found it! Loved the biryani and chicken korma. I rarely try desserts at Indian restaurants but really liked the ras malai cake. Also the ambiance is amazing.

We were told this was under new management. This being the case, I would have expected what is now the norm following a meal - ie some chocolate or mints at least. As we were new customers, a complementary drink would have been very appropriate here. The portions were small (with three only types of chutney with amounts sufficient for one person). For the three of us the cost was £109/ The food was very good but poor value for money

We booked a table for 7 people for a birthday celebration on Sunday at The Queens Head, Tolleshunt D’Arcy newly opened carvery … The food was exceptional. There was a superb choice of meats , all cooked to perfection with a wide selection of delicious accompaniments…. Eat as much as you like therefore, exceptional value for money. The staff all made us feel so very welcome and nothing was too much trouble with the added advantage of a fantastic atmosphere. We would highly recommend. Thank you so very much for an enjoyable experience- The Ritchie Family

Looked inviting from the outside so decided to give this establishment a try. Spotless interior , big menu with many tempting options. Our coffee was spot on , just how we like it "proper coffee." Wifey had bacon, brie and cranberry panini which she said was delicious. Myself chicken , bacon and pesto sandwich with granary bread. Thick slices of gorgeous bread with a well packed filling , it was very satisfying. Very good service and highly recommend.

Visited Black pig on a Sunday morning for brunch and it was very tasty. The presentation of the dishes is fantastic along with the excellent ingredients make each meal very enjoyable. We ordered the veggie brunch and Eggs Royale which I added a portion of streaky bacon as an extra. We also had the hash browns as a side dish which would have been nicer if the portion was for four and not three to save fighting for the odd one . Overall well worth a visit for some quality food.

This was my second visit and my husbands third so apologies for nor reviewing sooner. This place is an absolute gem. Great food, lovely team. I had a fish finger sandwich in lovely granary bread, my daughter had a cheese toastie and the hubster (on his first trip out after knee replacement surgery) had a cooked breakfast. Everything was delicious. We also had a couple of chip sides...just fantastic! We were beaten but had a couple of cake takeaways too. The chocolate cake and fruit cake have been given a big 5/5 this afternoon. Thanks to the lovely ladies that looked after us today
