We went for Sunday lunch, quite disappointed. The staff were lovely & the pub itself stunning, but our meal was not.Our roast potatoes were soft not crispy, cut them in half & they were bad inside, so we sent them back. We were asked if we would like water to which we said please, only to find out when the checking the bill, it was £4.95. Extortionate. We payed the bill only to find a discretionary service charge, which we not told about. We will not be returning.

What a wonderful evening at The horseshoes- cannot recommend more highly. Service was excellent with Alex looking after us beautifully and food (and wine) absolutely delicious. Adam is a fantastic chef! A perfect way to spend our 25th anniversary. Don’t miss out on eating at this pub! Wish we were locals as then we would definitely be regulars but will recommend it to anyone we meet who is planning a trip to Derbyshire!

Absolutely fantastic meal, we booked for Burns night and it exceeded our expectations! The service was brilliant from the moment we walked in, the team couldn't have been more helpful and genuine. The food was outstanding, presented perfectly and the starter that came with a treacle bread roll was perfect! Having the haggis paraded in with bagpipes was the perfect addition to the evening. It was a really great atmosphere and we will absolutely be going again soon. Couldn't fault a thing!

First time here, and what an amazing experience. Food, ambiance and service were all first class, will definitely be back very soon.

Had a wonderful meal in January to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant is modern but retains a warm and cozy atmosphere that aligns with the original building. The staff are attentive and welcoming. The food was superb. Head chef Adam and his team served us a series of exceptional appetisers including freshly baked breads. I had the beef main that was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. Prior to dessert Adam appeared and gave us another appetiser that he’d been working on that packed unbelievable flavours and challenged us to name the three ingredients. I then had a praline parfait for dessert and that was to die for. Overall this was a great experience and great value for the quality of food on offer, and I’m looking forward to visiting again soon.

Incredible food and such value for money. £35 for 2 courses or £45 for 3 courses for food of this quality is unbelievable! Perfect service from Alex, Fleur & George who couldn’t do enough for our family birthday celebration.

Abridged Sunday lunch menu was excellent especially the croissant starter! Treacle bread was a very nice touch, the beef was absolutely DELICIOUS and the service very very good. Couldn't fault it at all..

Christmas Day meal was awful, very undercooked almost raw Brussels, processed turkey on a roll with stuffing inside, no mash potatoes, 3 tiny roasted potatoes, one tiny bread roll . No coffee or mince pie . All in all not worth the money we paid, very poor . Very disappointing. Mr Craig Harris.

Had Xmas set menu. Christmas eve. Very disappointed with the portion size. I had turkey with stuffing which was processed with stuffing in the middle 4 tiny slices. 1 piece of carrot 1 piece of parsnip and 4 small roast potatoes. When I politely told the waiter of portion size he said it leaves room for your sweet. Child size portions and not value for money. Lovely place. Twice in 3 months now we've been dissatisfied. Won't be going again.

The dinner we had was absolutely delicious. The best smoked salmon I've ever had - and the bass was perfectly cooked. Beautiful flavours. It's one of those places where you look at all your previous 5* reviews and think... So how do you score this, when it's so much better?!

Couldn't say more about this place a chance find and real gem, great food, great beer and great atmosphere

New Head Chef and new menus. We booked for his second evening service. It's a set menu of 2 course £38 or 3 course £45. With lovely homemade bread and butter to start. For starters we chose the Chicken Terrine and Joe's hand dived scallops which were absolutely delishes. Mains were Cornish Cod,Brassicas,Chard,Smoked Roe. Beef loin & cheek, Celeriac, White onion. A dessert of Chocolate ,70% Valrhona Chocolate, Espresso, Clotted Cream. And a delightlighfully large plate of cheeses. The menu will change depending on what fresh local produce is delivered. The food was perfectly executed, as expected from a young talented chef such as Adam.It was great to meet him again and to see him back in action. Staff were pleasant and professional. The pub is part of Berkeley Inns, which is a small pub group with some other great venues. They are clearly aiming high with this new head chef appointment for their casual fine dining. We'll look forward to see how they develop and the word gets out. Future awards and accolades are on the horizon for sure.

A new family first meeting. Went very well.

One of our party had lamb which was difficult to eat and not to the usual high standard of The Horseshoes but the staff were most accommodating and apologetic and swapped the Roast for Beef which was delicious.

This was the second time. 1st time food excellent. This time my partner had steak . Was tough like rubber . My pork was poor. Will not be returning a 3nd time sorry to say.

11 of us foe Sunday lunch...no chicken on the menu at all? Leaving only red meat. Also no childrens menu whatsoever. I ordered the fish of the day which although was well cooked and presented, had not been filleted at all so I spent the first 5mins picking out 12 bones! (Yep I did count). Other members didn't find anything to their liking either. Staff friendly but wouldn't really recommend for the price. Sticky toffee pudding was nice though.

Went with my family and Mum for an early dinner. The service was excellent and attentive. The food was next level! Beetroot and Feta Tartare starter was fresh and flavoursome. Rump steak was perfectly cooked, chips perfect and the punchy peppercorn sauce amazing. The lemon posset for dessert completely tingled the tastebuds and cleansed the pallet. An absolute culinary triumph - chef you are amazing! Will definitely be back. ❤️ My daughter had pork belly and I have never tasted a better or more succulent one.

We had a wonderful time celebrating my father's 80th birthday 🎂. The staff were so friendly and the food was great. Really appreciated the care and attention we received for this important family occasion. Thank you 😊

Went for dinner here this week. Warm welcome in the bar shown promptly to our table. Food and service superb, the quality & presentation were both amazing, good wine list too with a good range and good prices. We’ll be back.

Over priced and poor quality of food

Great food and service in this lovely old pub that manages to cater for both those eating, and those enjoying a beer by the fire.

Service was a little slow, with me having to ask to make our order. Was rather shocked seasonal veg was additional on a Sunday roast! 12.5% service charge is high and across food & drinks. We explicitly stated the chocolate brownie was for our 8yr old daughter. Neither the menu or staff taking order raised it was soaked in alcohol! Sadly premium price tag but rather average food and service

I took my partner for an evening meal to celebrate her birthday, we enjoyed the overall experience. I have marked the food down due to the mushroom and tomato portion size that I had with the fillet steak, the price with a peppercorn sauce was £37, I expected better. One thing to take into account is the 12.5% service charge, which is discretionary and goes to the staff. We spent £128.50, so with the 12.5% it inflated the bill to £144.38. My rule of thumb is that IF the service is good, which it was in this case, I give 10% and that is what I payed.The atmosphere was o. k.

Pigs cheek and chorizo/black pudding buns were the best starters we've ever had. George, the waiter was very attentive

Rather disappointed at this establishment this evening for our first visit after a drive of 10 miles or so to this rather remote pub.. Arrived around 6pm. After an initially polite but rather cold welcome from a seemingly disinterested barman for our drinks, on returning to the bar just seconds later for a forgotten item,I was kept waiting for him to reappear. When he did, despite looking straight at me he chose to serve someone else who had arrived later. Poor manners from both individuals so not somewhere I'd return to. Remote, high prices, unwelcoming with staff that could not break a smile and we watched them for 20 mins or so. The chef seemed very pleasant when he said hello whilst in the carpark but the other staff who are younger seemed so stressed they couldn't smile or so unhappy they couldn't smile. Who knows what the problems are in this establishment but I will not be going back. Inhospitable and expensive

An amazing place to sit and have drinks and dine, the food was done perfectly and so eye pleasing, the work force really know what they are doing and made such an effort with all the diners, highly recommended and will definitely be returning. Excellent!! 🙏🏼

Our family visited The Horsehoes on Saturday 5th August. Firstly from the outside and tge ambience inside seemed to be excellent. The table we were shown to was incredibly sticky and there were multiple flies inside which we had to swat. The food appeared to be nicely presented but was full of chillies and too much sauce. My sister in law had the Goat’s cheese gnocchi. However there were 2 pieces of goats cheese and the rest was tofu. The bill exceeded £100.00 and we were given a 10% deduction. However there was a 12.5% gratuity that wasn’t clear on the menu.. we certainly wouldn’t recommend here and definitely won’t be going again.

Visited Wednesday 19th July 2023, early evening. Easily one of the best restaurants in the area and one of the best I've eaten at in a long time. Food quality is outstanding, the menu is seasonal; however, there's a sample menu online to get an idea of what's on offer, there's also two options, an a la carte and a fixed price. Vegetarian, vegan and dietary requirements can be catered for. Whilst the food is definitely upper tier the prices are not much more than most other restaurants and represents excellent value for money. The place itself is based around an old country pub with an excellent garden outside providing dining outdoors, they also have a number of cabanas with heating. Service is outstanding; however, it's an informal place so whilst everyone is polite and professional it's also relaxed. Well worth visiting.

Food wine and beer chosen was exceptional

Visited as a couple on a Saturday night in May. Having been recommended a visit, we booked into The Horseshoes and we're not disappointed. There are extensive food & drinks menus including cocktails and mocktails. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Booking is recommended as it got very busy by 1830. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

What a wonderful place! The food is exquisite and staff always extremely polite and accommodating. Also a lovely setting and beautiful gardens which makes the experience even more pleasant.

Usually amazing food but really didn't like the Sunday roast the roast pork wasn't nice the cauliflower and brocoli cheese was a solid lump and the Yorkshire pudding wasn't nice either I was disappointed as this in mine and my husbands opinion wasn't there usual standard

Tasty food and a great place to spend your evening with family

We had an amazing lunch! First time in there,no reservation and they did a wonderful job to accommodate us (family with children and baby). It's a gem! Wonderful pub beautiful front and back garden (romantic and cozy. Food was amazing and service really good! Wonderful team! We definitely come back! Highly recommended.

The food was presented well, but lacked flavour- the main and side dishes needed a bit of salt and pepper or fresh herbs. My chocolate Marquise was a really nice dessert though and It was a lovely looking place from outside and and to sit inside.

My boyfriend brought me here for the Valentines Day Set Menu tonight and I cannot fault our experience at all. The food was perfect, amazing service and an amazing vibe to the restaurant. Very chilled atmosphere. The set menu was £45 for three courses, sometimes you can go for a meal and feel the food standard was not worth the price, but this was definitely not the case tonight. Definitely returning!

Our first ever visit (4 Feb 2023). The whole experience from arriving to leaving was amazing. The best A la Carte we've had in years! Would recommend to anyone.

Not sure what's happening to the food, came here before and gave 5 stars for the food , visited yesterday and was disappointed by the small portions on our plate , I tried the steak ale pie it was ridiculous very small , I was thinking it must be a taster of what to come it was smaller than a jam jar lid . The place on a Friday evening was less than half full , That says it all. We will not be booking again .

Visited for Sunday lunch with family. It was our 2nd visit and again it was excellent. The Roast Beef was superb and the meal overall excellent. Looking forward to going back soon.

Lovely country pub. First time in calling but definitely will come back

Arrived early 11.55. No lights on and staff not ready for service for opening at 12.00 noon !! 1st and desert course delicious. Main course disappointing, served cold mushy, brocoli and cauliflower vegetable dish with cold congealed cheese sauce. Roast potatoes cold, warmed up. Would go as far to say it was left over veg from the night before service!!!! Disappointing at £40 a head. We were offered a hot drink at no extra charge. Will not return.

Excellent venue, really enjoyed lunch

Excellent service , atmosphere and quality of food. We no longer live locally, but hope to come back and eat here when we can. We are already recommending it to friends in the area and hope to come back and eat here with them.

Been here many times before but very disappointed today. We asked to be moved to a different table due to noise from a large party but were told this was not possible. There was no apology from management, in fact no one seemed to care at all. As always the food was lovely but today it wasn't enough to make up for the terrible service we received. Won't be back again.

Menu very limited, especially for children, so not really family friendly. Food was acceptable but nothing more, staff were efficient but again nothing more than that. Not eager to return.

Great food and nice atmosphere!

Absolutely stunning place, contemporary with a traditional feel. Loads of sitting space outside. Had the pan fried chicken and it was just gorgeous. The staff are veryax attentive and friendly. Will definitely go again❤️

One of three pubs in the same area. This one is a lovely location. Did not sample the beer but saw Landlord on handpump so that's a plus. The food was lovely but priced to indicate quality. A few niggles, the starter, which was advertised with peaches came without any and it was an interesting combination which somehow didn't quite work for me. One of the main courses was a very English pork chop on a very Asian stir fry, didn't quite hit the spot as an East meets West dish. The food is very tasty though and well prepared and cooked. The pub also have some really nice pods in the garden for a kind of private friends and family experience. Definitely a pub to try out.

Wonderful warm welcome, the restaurant had a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. The food was delicious, hot, and portion size was extremely generous. Pricing was fair and not inflated. My wife and I ate here today Wednesday 9th March.The food was magnificent the wine exquisite and the service sublime if you do not rush to enjoy you will miss out.

Excellent food and with their 'garden pods' available for restaurant bookings, it has the environment to match as well. One downside is that they claim to be disabled accessible, now you can get in the front door to the main bar, but the toilet block is up a step my wheelchair wouldn't manage, so bring your walking stick if you are determined. Also on my visit I was unable to find a disabled toilet!

Lovely meal and great service. Recommend the scallops and lamb. Stretch to the chocolate dessert which was delicious but couldn’t quite finish it as a little to rich. Very attentive service with enough room between courses.

Tonight at The Horseshoes was some of the best food I've had in quite a while. Not a cheap menu but the food is true fine dining and worth every cent. Very friendly and efficient staff. Highly recommended.

Great ambience and very professional staff, always willing to please. The meals were superbly presented and very appetising. Congratulations all round.

Walked 2 hours in the cold and rain to find I couldn't get in the bar. Dog was right fed up, no water and no crisps. My feet were killing me and the palate lacked the Amber nectar refreshment. Never walking here again.

The food and service here is always excellent. Highly recommended for a visit.

Excellent staff, several ales,nice decor

Called ahead more then once to say that there was a vegetarian with a nut allergy in the group. Was told on each occasion that there would be options available. There was only ONE option: Gnocchi with WALNUT OIL!!! What part of NUT ALLERGY do they not understand. Ordered the soup starter which came with bread wasn't told that the only bread they had was Walnut bread. Had the Gnocchi without the walnut oil, so just a plate of tasteless Gnocchi!!!!! Ordered the desert which came with a biscuit, guess what, that also contained nuts or nut traces. Waiter not really interested and yes we were charged full price for half the food. BE AWARE IF YOU HAVE A NUT ALLERGY THIS PLACE IS NOT SUITABLE

We have just returned from the most wonderful meal at The Horseshoes - every bite of food was a delight and I felt my dietary requirements were completely considered and met. The service from everyone we encountered was friendly and conscientious without being at all intrusive - the perfect balance. We felt very happy and comfortable. I didn’t take any photos because I ate everything too quickly! Thank you, Horseshoes for a wonderful lunch - absolutely fantastic. 10/10.

Beautiful interior and first class staff. We had Sunday lunch and the meat was cooked to perfection. However be prepared for a plate swimming in gravy. If like me you prefer a small amount that you pour yourself then ask before hand. Veg was very disappointing as we were given a tiny bowl between three people and it contained only 4 tiny cuts of carrot, 2 tiny hard parsnips and a mound of cabbage. It's a lovely place but overall I was underwhelmed.
