The Horseshoe Fish Bar in Torfaen

It's a no from me, first time visit, just the usual family order of fish, chips, sausages, pots of curry, chips were pale and warm/soggy and had an "old" oil taste, fish mediocre, sausages can't complain but the curry sauce is awful, waste of money, we all ust picked at the food which was then scraped in the bin, I'll give this place a miss in future

Just picked up fish chips x 2 and a pot of gravy all piping hot when I got it home and absolutely delicious 😋

First vist and quite impressed so let's hope it will continue to impress?

This is a traditional British Fish and Chip take away shop, very friendly staff, great food freshly cooked, I go there regularly and have never had to complain or return anything. I went this week and it was really busy, all of the staff got on with their jobs and I was chatting with Ray who was making light of things when you could clearly see he was trying to serve people quickly and professionally. All round great take away.

Good chippy does good fish well battered. I would recommend ordering in advance.

Nice fish n chips, friendly enough. Maybe they could look to have seating. After all it is an old pub, there has to be more room somewhere. Other than that love this place 😁

Usually great food but tonight the fish was really overcooked and the chips were dry. We waiting a long time for delivery which would not have been a problem if food was its normal high standard

Gutted always come here for chips and ordered for the first time portion so small compared to what they are don’t know if that’s cause I was paying cash regular was so small gutted as we share the chips as a family

I come to the horseshoe fish bar every week sometimes more ..they alway seem to never dissatisfy my need for food it's always hot prepare in front of you and always fresh fish and chips ..portions are perfect for the more hungry belly like myself lol never let us down ànd alway beautiful food and customers service ..I highly recommend them to anyone

Disappointed that they don't deliver to my address in new inn. Was told it's a 3 mile radius. I live on the highway. 2.6 miles. Go figure.

Sadly I have to say this chippy is very expensive and food is ok. Their issue is the awful quality of customer service. Always a long queue due to the fact they seem to prioritize their delivery service and deal with that side of it first- customers in the queue always come second best. If you can't give 100% to both services then you need to hire more staff to help or cease one of the services. REMEMBER YOU PROVIDE A SERVICE TO THE PUBLIC AND IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE 100% NOT 70% . SORRY.!!

Food is great. Portions are always a good size and everything I have ordered and seen is cooked well. The place is always clean and tidy and everything looks very looked after. I highly recommend 👌

Great staff, food is excellent, and good choice

This converted public house is only about a mile away from me which is great because it is better than a well-known restaurant/takeaway that I used to use in Cwmbran when I fancied fish and chips. With fish and chips you need to know what you are doing. Good oil, right temperature and correct timing. It sounds simple but so many get it wrong They don't here and everything is cooked to order as it should be. Very generous portions.

Naked fish is the best with chips

Only complaint is they are so good they need more staff. Food excellent

Fantastic chippy, fast becoming my favourite. Near enough on my doorstep. The owner is fantastic and down to earth and the staff are lovely and professional. Brilliant fish and chips, by far the tastiest cod I've had.

Great chippy, lots of choice, very clean, friendly staff. Fish and chips cooked to perfection, chips well cooked, and light batter on the firm white cod. Not greasy either......perfect, won't go anywhere else locally for a chippy tea !😋

One of the best fish and chip shops I've visited. Anyone who has been to Argus in Bristol will know how high their standards are. This is equally as good. Crispy batter, gorgeous chips and Irish curry sauce? Yes please! Throw in friendly service and this place is an absolute find

I used to think this chipshop was nice, but the chips are always undercooked white, the last twice put our food in the bin need to learn how to cook chips!

We order from here regularly and it’s usually outstanding. Unfortunately today the chips were as if they had been warmed up and the half pounder burger was that tough it couldn’t be eaten

Best fish and chips I've had in years. Cod was outstanding. You'll pay about a tenner for large cod and chips. You can order on line but deliver only, an extra £2.00. Don't expect them to answer the phone, but when I've turned up the service was prompt. Nice staff, attentive and smiley..

We go to Ponypool around once a month and we always visit this Fish and Chip shop, perfect pies, perfect fish and excellent chips. Well priced, quick and friendly service. What more is there to say..

We love the food from here! Order regular and it's always great. Customer service is amazing too, they tried contacting us by phone and email about an unavailable item. When they didn't get a response they sent someone to our house to tell us. Keep doing what you're doing! :)

Lovely fish and chips. The fish is cooked beautifully - the fish is tender and flakes nicely, the batter is crispy and it's not oily or greasy in the slightest. A place to go if you want some of the best cooked fish. The rest of the menu is as expected, with a decent range. The prices are very fair.

Excellent fish and chip shop the friendliest staff. I'm from Cwmbran but whilst visiting mates up pontypool. I gotta get something to eat there. RECOMMENDED

Visited here on 01/06 for dinner for my family (2 kids, myself, husband & mother-in-law) The chips are perfect - crispy on the outside, not greasy & then fluffy on the inside. My husband had fish & said it was really good. Everything was really well priced, to feed 5 of us was around £20, which is excellent value. The interior was well set out to manage C19 restrictions, with markers on the (spotlessly clean) flooring & screens at the counter to keep everyone safe. The place is owned by a young couple who are really friendly, as are the rest of their staff. Definitely recommend paying a visit if you’re in the area & looking for good food :)

The burgers are fried which is just disgusting, it's like chewing rubber. The chips..you spend more time digging out the bad ones than you do eating the good ones. Many better chippies in Pontypool than here

Best chippy in the area by a country mile, was told pages was good but it's not even fit to tie the horseshoe fishbars laces 👌 great customer service food is always consistently good and you get good size portions for a reasonable price considering the quality in comparison to most other chippies in the area👍

Fantastic fish and chips for our third time cod Skinless and boneless .cooked fresh to order .Batter light and crispy cannot fault it.

I visit this fish bar regularly as its a short walk from my house and everytime the speed of service is ridiculously slow. I appreciate Covid has meant things are more difficult, however I see no social distancing efforts by the staff only by the customers so this is no excuse. The portions are a bit mean but acceptable and the food quality is OK. However if you are planning to visit, I would recommend booking a week or so off work as you Will be waiting.

Thanks for continuing to cook for us. Your doing a sterling job. We have had a function Gareth and Sam cooked us fish and chips for 27. Food was excellent and hot Service prompt due to being able to deliver the meals Sam delivered to us with a smile even though the bags of food were heavy. Dietary requirements correct as ordered. No complaints whatsoever. We will be using the fish bar again. Well done to receiving the Fry award. Well deserved. Thanks Deborah and guests

Excellent fish from the horseshoe, it was piping hot and the battery very crispy. A little expensive at just over £15 for two pieces of fish, large chips and a Dr Pepper, but worth every penny.

Placed an order via the phone for fish and chips (which was waiting for me when I arrived). Both fish and chips were done to perfection and the portions were of belt bursting size. Highly recommended.

Abysmal customer service, after finding out our order hasn't gone through and its nearing half past 8, sorry we've reached our capacity is simply awful. Not impressed and frankly disappointed.

Had a lovely meal yesterday from the Horseshoe fish bar. The food is outstanding and wouldn't go anywhere else from now on. Highly recommend and will be recommending to all my friends, family and customers.

The fish was not cooked properly it was really unpleasant and I was very displeased.

I used to go to porthcawl for the best fish & chips but now I've discovered the Horseshoe Fish Bar in Pontypool and wow what lovely chips don't get me wrong mansels in Porthcawl it's still the best but the Horseshoe Fish Bar comes close give it a go, you won't be disappointed👍👍👌ps don't get two bags of chips unless you going to feed the whole family one bag is plenty for 2 🍟🍟🍟.
