Lakeside Fish Bar in Torfaen

Lovely fish and chips always. Some of the staff are miserable and not friendly though. Which is off putting makes you feel uncomfortable in there.

Staff were not friendly and inviting,Chips were black and warm and a very small portion,Saugage was nice and chicken and mushroom pie was lovely,I do not recommend.

If you want chips order them a day in advance.

Plenty of chips cooked like they should be worth a visit

Avoid if possible only serve one person at a time and will not even take the order of the next person until that person has finished and had thier order handed to them awful service. Do not ever try going there just as they are closing either as you will be screamed at CLOSED!!!!!!!

Chips were greasy.. They didn't look nice either. Not sure if they been standing around. I called in at 1.45pm and was the only person in there. Maybe the locals knew something I didnt

We popped here yesterday for the first time. The staff were so lovely and efficient. The long queue said it all, yet the wait was not long thanks to the excellent staff. All our meals were freshly cooked and piping hot by the time we got them home. All fish is cooked to order and started while you queue if you ask. Of course things are expensive now as their oil and heating bills have doubled. But worth it for such great quality.

Really appreciated the local Lakeside fish and chip shop. Our kids played outside and the friendly staff even brought it out to us. Nice selection of side orders and sauces too 😋 They will be our regular treat.

Very nice, good portion size. Getting expensive but isn't everything 🙃 will be back and recommended

Chips soggy! Sausage and batter greasy, no taste. The girl serving should be sacked as is not bothered The walls have tiles missing. How can a chip shop be so bad?

Pies hot and crisp not soggy as they should be, but the chips very poor a lot of eye's in them they would have much better rating if not for that.

My husband came home with 2 large curry sauce and chips and a jumbo sausage and batter £11.75!! That's absolutely ridiculous, even worse was the chips were so anaemic, swimming in gravy that you couldn't even pick out a chip, a whole mushy mess. My poor husband got the wrath at how poor this meal was Chips and gravy straight in the bin and replaced by frozen chips, how to trigger a bad mood when your looking forward to a very rare takeaway from the chippy. Pontnewydd chippy so much better.

Visited here today and staff weren't wearing masks or face shields so walked straight out and went somewhere else where they don't put people's health at risk.

Nearly all of the chips were bad and inedible. Unfortunately, no staff or customers were social distancing.

Totally overcooked piece of Cod, if of course it was Cod as it was completely unrecognizable and showed no sign of ever experiencing life or moisture. Having peeled off the dry crumbly batter I discovered an even drier brown fish hiding amongst the spear like sharp brown objects sold as chips out of this establishment needless to say it went in the bin and we won't be returning unless we become struck down with Alzheimer's and manage to forget this evenings awful experience.

Il never visit and buy from lakeside chip shop the prices are crazy cheese chips and beans £6.95 chips aren’t clean cooked in dirty oil daylight robbery

once again i turn up at your chip shop at 21.00hrs to which you state you are open til 22.00hrs and yes you are shut!!!!! what kind of setup are yo running here? this is not the 1st or 2nd time ths has happened!!! pleease peple stay awy!!!!

Best fish in cwmbran, cooked fresh and batter superb, unfortunately rang to place an order as on a lunch break and left a message to order fish to be cooked by a certain time and they told me they don't listen to their messages!! After queuing and waiting for fish to cook I wasted 20 minutes of my hour lunch. Couldn't fault fish and chips though but know not to leave a message next time

Very over priced first visit and bought fish n chips plus a jumbo sausage. I honestly think there was more cod in a fish finger than what they served to me. To add insult to injury there were a handful of bones in it plus they leave the skin on which I hate Jumbo sausage was so dry and felt had the texture of a pepperami without the taste. Wont be going there again. If you love your fish n chips go to the harbour just outside newport town centre great portions, lovely thick cod and much cheaper.

Our first visit to a takeaway in months, pretty disappointed to have ordered and paid for 2x sausage and chips to get home and find we were short changed a sausage, gutted. Ok otherwise but won't rush back.

Nice food, nice people and it's my in local chippy located in a very nice area of Cwmbran. Not the cheapest, but still very reasonable. Usual choices you'd expect from a Chippy. It's always clean inside. My only slight gripe is that they don't seem to be able to keep up with the flow of chips sometimes, occasionally you'll have to stand idle in the queue waiting for chips to be cooked, which isn't a massive problem unless you're in a rush

The only fish and chip shop that i know of that don't sell the popular beefburger in batter or potatoe fritter shame on you Lakeside fish bar plus found them a bit expensive for some of there food i paid £2.10p for a small bag of chips and about half of them went in the bin due to being full of black eyes won't be going back again

What a poor amount of food paid £20 for three bags of chips and fish &chips and the bags of chips we're not big enough for a small child .gravy was tastless and salty inly used half small pot cos not enoufht chips definitely will not be returning ....... as you can see in pic a handful of chips is not what i expect when i pay for a bag .....

if your'e out and about and rely on this companys opening times to be fed! well you'll go hungry, twice my wife have turned up between 9.15 and 9.30 and the shop is shut, false advertising comes to mind, stay away.

Really great fish and chips, although parking at lunch time can be hard. The fish is also cooked to order so there is a 5-10 min wait which isn't great if you are in a rush.

Waited and waited and waited for chips when they arrived the it was standing room only queue was out the door, soggy oily pale worst chips I've had in the UK, the portion was pathetic I think the cooked chip's were to be spread between the whole queue unfortunately we were at the front they got binned not even my dog would eat the chips, The person behind the counter was overweight sweaty greasy hair bad attitude slamming the till shut yuck! didn't order anything else I'm glad if a chip shop can't even cook chips what hope has got? Would have given 0 stars if possible

On our way through we stopped at chip shop to get evening meal for the family to take out to caravan. The service was OK but prices were a bit expensive especially due to portion size. However when we drove to destination a few miles away we had discovered that nearly half our order wasn't in the bag. 😱

The chips had no taste to them at all and a bit soggy. I asked for a small portion as in other places this is enough for at least 3 people, not here, a very small portion, not worth the £2 odd. So asked for a large which was I think £3.30, way too expensive for the amount you get. The pie I asked for was very dry on top like it had been left in the warmer for hours. The chicken was very pale in colour and also dry. Wont be goin back anytime soon if ever. Will be going back to Pontnewydd chippy, a little more expensive but much much better quality!

No real complaints. It's all good really. Not soggy, not greasy. Reasonably priced etc. As a local it's sometimes a pain waiting because they run out of chips a lot and every other visit I have to wait a minute or five until chips are cooked. At least they're freshly cooked :-)

Over priced , tiny portions and incompetence from the staff , how this so called chip shop is still trading is unbelievable. I am all for supporting local bussiness but not when they are ripping you off ! Avoid at all costs !

Charged me for a corned beef pasty that was as hard as a brick and not edible.. And at a ridiculous price..

Small chips £1.95 small curry sauce £1.35 portion size was tiny. A child portion. Lots of tiny over cooked chips, curry sauce was so thick it fell out of the really small pot in a lump. Too expensive and quality not very good.

Gave this place another try after my 1 star rating 3 years ago now, we were in boating lake so it's convenient. Have to say, not much has changed, absolutely appalling customer service, extremely slow and prices are still extortionate. Food is average at best, I think the produce quality is cheap and nasty but they still want to charge you the earth for it. That's twice now, never again ...

This is a really busy local chip shop, with great staff and great food! The portions sizes are great here 5* all around!

OK for a fish bar, fish had bones in and the medium chips are enough for 2 people.

never had a bad lot of chips from here, little more on the expensive side comapred to some chippies but i would go again!

OBVIOUSLY NOT ON TRIPADVISOR FOR GOOD REASON.!!!! Called here on Tuesday 17th Oct 2017 at approx 18.30. There were a few people in there waiting. It was 30 mins plus before I eventually left with my food (large sausage, large chips and 1 cod). Cod I had ordered whilst queuing. I had to wait for chips to be cooked (this seems to be a running theme reading these reviews). One customer who came in after me was served her cod and chips whilst I was waiting. Don't know what was so special about her that they kept chips back in order to serve her quicker (friend or family member perhaps?). I only wanted 1 bag so its not as if they couldn't fulfil my order. There was another customer before me waiting for chips also so she was served before him too. I had my son and daughter waiting to eat back at the house around the corner as I had gone straight to chippy after coming home from work late. However I didn't see that as a reason to jump the queue. My daughter left the sausage because she said it was dry, luckily my son had meatballs with his food, however we all left some of the chips as they were not that nice. My cod wasn't tasty at all and I found 8 bones whilst eating it. To be honest it wasn't that big either for £3.95. I recently moved to Llany from Croesy and thought it was great that I could walk to the chippy in 2 mins. However I will be sticking with the one I always go to in Pontnewydd. I have never had to wait for chips, cod is both tasty and free of bones, and it's a bigger piece of fish also. Get more chips there too plus they are always nice. Also don't have to wait while they serve other customers before me. They are a chip shop not a restaurant so why do they cook to order. I get served quicker in Wetherspoons or the Crows nest but they are cooking and plating proper meals. Plus there were about 5 people in front of me and a further 2 came in after so why hadn't they put the chips in earlier. I have never spent so long in a chip shop in my life, but then other chip shops don't tend to serve customers that were after you 1st, or cook their chips to order either. I suggest you try Pontnewydd chippy. You won't go back to Llany once you have. Llany is basically a local chip shop for me as I live just behind it. It's disappointing that I now have drive to Pontnewydd where I can get a good meal and service when this one is on the doorstep.

Definitely a must for their chips! Nom
