Lovely country pub, food is lovely

Visited Friday lunchtime with elderly parents. The staff were really friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. The food was excellent! We had lamb shank, scampi and light-bite prawn baguette. The menu choice was fantastic. No complaints from anyone and would highly recommend. Will definitely be back for more.

Went to eat. We were made to feel so unwelcome and uncomfortable by the bar maid with dar hair and glasses we left. A dog was running around, I calmly explained our dog , who was on a lead had been attacked so could be reactive. She said we had to sit our if the way on high stools, facing a wall with no where to eat. I said we can't eat there. She said well your dog is reactive, which in fact he wasn't. He totally ignored the dog climbing over him. she slammed the menu down on the table. So rude. Loads of men swearing and shouting. Avoid avoid Show less

Had beef lasagne no sauce in it dried up salad was lettuce leaves and half a cherry tomato husbands chips cold said what I thought and no one followed up on complaint would not go again

Excellent service and the food was absolutely lovely. I live in London but visit the area every now and then. I had the fish and chips on Friday and it’s the 1st time I can say I loved a pub fish and chips. It was fresh and absolutely perfect. Really hard to fault. Had some great banter with the staff was a little hiccup with a drink, fixed without an issue. Had a lovely time and will be back. I hope you enjoy as much as I did. Thank you

Hope and Anchor is now under new management and what a difference a few weeks makes.A warm and friendly atmosphere greets you from the minute you walk in.Attentive friendly staff....many good choices from the menu and all served beautifully cooked .Good luck to the new owner Sean and his staff for the future....We will certainly be back soon.

In the past 2 years I've not had a better meal,service was spot on,staff spot on,front of house spot on,beer spot on, I work all over the UK and Europe and this place is the first place I've had a meal and wanted more....back next week for a Sunday lunch 10 star recommendation. Well done to all the team involved.

Food was gorgeous. I had pork medallions with black pudding, new potatoes ans salad. Highly recommended.

Poor customer service , Sunday lunch menu stated lamb but was boil in the bag lamb shank with minted gravy , plates cleared but no dessert offered , vegetables nice but low key approach by staff not customer focused

A lovely warm atmosphere, plenty of people in eating, ample staff, food was lovely. I had the Terriaki Salmon, my husband had the lamb shank and my mother in law had the braised beef, all very nice. May it continue.

Visited today for Lunch, probably Sean's first customers in his new venue & 6 - loose woman, at that, how does he cope? Apart from a very warm welcome, the food was delicious, hot and a vast choice. The pub is delightfully decorated, how he's done what he's done in such a short time is a miracle. No doubt, he'll smash it. Good luck, Val, Joy, Mary, Carol, Ann & Julie. Food spot on. Portion sizes huge. Reasonably priced. Just need Coors on tap.

Waited over a hour to be served and when it came it was cold and pepper corn sauce was thick as paste I have had better meals

Decor needs updating but cant fault the food, portions are very generous to say the least you have to be hungry when you come here or dont bother

Having sampled a few parmos in town I've given a heads up about the hope & anchor.. went in and it was fairly quiet so quickly found a seat and got a pint of fosters... ordered a full Hot Shot parmo, £14 for half £17.50 for a full. Asked if they had take away cartons should I not finish it, thankfully they did... food came out and I wasn't disappointed it was massive, couldn't even eat half of it, jill got the garlic and Stilton parmo which was bang on... Hot Shot could have been hotter, that said it was top drawer.... would definitely go again... total bill was £47. Not the cheapest but definitely worth it...

Went after Watermead parkrun for a breakfast with friends. I had the frozen smoothie bowl - basically ice cream for breakfast! Wonderful. Hubby had a full English breakfast. Everything was perfect, no complaints here.

Food portions huge and proper chips! Nice beer garden and bar maid was lovely. Clean toilets. Next time I'm in Greatham I will be back. Thank you.

Food nice beers nice decor bit drab but overall nice and pleasant place not long been taken over but sister pub spotted cow at elwick was just like that but money been spent to upgrade very good work on both places keep up the good work staff brilliant at both places

Friendly helpful staff and lovely food with a large menu to choose from. Portions are enormous. I ordered regular sized steak pie. Two homeade pies with gorgeously light thin flakey pastry arrived. They offer a light bite option where you get one pie too. Choice of accompaniment of chips, mash or new potatoes and sald or veg were offered. If you're looking for food in the Hartlepool area, it's a good choice. They are owned by the same people as the spotted cow in Elwick which offers the same menu if over the other side of Hartlepool.

Newly refurbished with great food and ample parking. I recommend a visit.

Sadly standards seem to be slipping, place was cold & unwelcoming. The tables were sticky/felt dirty as did the floor in the ladies toilets.

We all had excellent meals and were amazed at the size of the portions. Fantastic value and service, will definitely go there again.

You can wait a canny while but food is beautiful, portions massive and all proper cooked food. When your food is like this you dont mind the wait.

Food is very good value indeed and delicious. The litebite menu is anything but light and is a substantial main course and can possibly leave enough room for a copious dessert - I had treacle pudding with custard and wife had sticky toffee pudding - wonderful. If you fancy a good value lunch in a traditional pub setting then get yourself to Greatham!

Good food, great prices and first class service. My only criticism is that the doors are locked until exactly twelve o clock (1200) on a lunch time and I would have liked to sit and have a coffee before my dinner.

Not the best meal I've had there, (burger and chips), I had to ask where the salad and onion rings were. Husband had gammon (on recommendation)which looked barely cooked and definitely not appetising. Very disappointed to say the least....
