This place is most certainly open, we had a great coffee, the staff are multilingual and very funny, great banter and lovely coffee, would highly recommend.

What an excellent find. A lovely little cafe just off the Royal Mile. The coffee is really good but the best bit was the honey cake, a must try!

The hideout is a great spot to head for a quick coffee and a bite to eat! The coffee is always consistent, the friendliness of the staff is always tops! It was the first place my partner and I went to when we first moved to the area and the guys made us feel so welcome. You can be sure to have a great experience in the hideout. The staff always ask you how you are and are always up for a chat and a skit. They really give their time to their customers. I also love that they just know our coffee order now. First note that the address of the Hideout Cafe we went to is 5 Upper Bow and it is now a small space (unlike some of the pictures on Tripadvisor). Speaking just for myself, I though the mozzarella sandwich there was delicious. However, my husband did not like his sandwich at all (I can't remember which he chose). The food menu is very limited at this cafe. Basically we went to the counter and pointed to sandwiches which were in the case and they heated them up. We were lucky to find some seats as there weren't many. I will say that lunch here was inexpensive and convenient as we were shopping on Lawnmarket St. nearby.

Located right across the road from our accommodation this cafe was a fantastic find! Great coffee and cakes and super friendly service. [Double check the address though as based on the photos on Tripadvisor the location may have changed recently].

A lovely little cafe we happened to stumble across in Old Town, Edinburgh. Reminded me of a cafe in Amsterdam, we just had a tea & a hot chocolate (which my husband said was really good!) The pastries looked divine (we’d just had breakfast so didn’t get one, wish I had done though!!) Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was lovely! Would happily go back when visiting Edinburgh again!

Leith is undergoing a transformation. This working class area near the port has become gentrified and prices are quite unjustified with a cappuccino costing £3. The smoothie was disappointing as at the eye watering price of nearly £4, I was expecting the smoothie to be made from actual solid apples rather than cheaper apple juice made from concentrate out of a carton which overpowered the drink as smoothie it was not! The poached eggs with salmon were cooked to perfection with the orange yolks forming a puddle of rich sauce over the salmon and sourdough and were very tasty as 5he were well prepared. The cinnamon bun was ok but quite doughy and heavy. Service was not the speediest but pleasant enough. This area of Leith trying to be upmarket in price but still a disconnect with the quality of the produce offered and aesthetics of the surrounding.

Stumbled across this place after we’d walked to Leith from the city centre via Arthur’s Seat! Greatly in need of refreshment we stopped for lunch. It’s a cosy, welcoming and quirky little place with old stereos fixed to the wall and other interesting stuff on show. The coffee was good and the grub tasty and reasonably priced.

Very cute cafe. Nothing too fancy but lovely atmosphere. I was struggling to find a cafe in edinburgh with enough space to study (without a million people jostling for a spot) and this place was perfect. There were plenty of folk about but still always a free table or two (mind you it was a weekday morning). Overall, a great experience, and staff very very friendly.

Had a fantastic breakfast with my husband he had two massive breakfast rolls with great quality bacon and sausage. I had bacon scrambled eggs bean and the most fantastic artisan break. Staff were helpful and extremely pleasant. Will be back soon.

On recommendation we visited here for breakfast rolls. Whilst most of content appeared to be heated in micro they were quick pleasant. However I wanted onions on sausage roll and was given a flat not this. I was eventually (grudgingly) given a smattering of raw onions.....the coffee was bitter and not pleasant tasting. Prices were at top end for this type of food and at the end of the day content and 'can do' service are a must.

fabulous food here, very tasty and a good choice too. Service was friendly and efficient. This would have been a 5 star review if the tea bag had come inside the teapot rather than beside it. I get that this place is more of a coffee joint and I recognise that it is trendy to present tea in this way but in my opinion the brew isn't as strong. However this wouldn't put me off visiting again as I am sure that if I asked for the tea bag to be put in the pot and water added on top of it they would accommodate my request as the service was good.

Veníamos de la parte del puerto e hicimos un alto en el camino para tomarnos un café y alguna cosa más que nos calmara el hambre hasta la hora de comer. Me pareció un lugar encantador, lleno de viejos recuerdos y además tranquilo. La mayoría de la gente parecían clientes habituales que aprovechaban la hora de comer para continuar con sus quehaceres. Está un poco lejos del centro de Edimburgo.

I was with two friends in Leith for a week long seminar on scottish culture, politics ect at a school there. We had a long-ish lunch break one day so we decided to go out and get lunch and coffee at a cafe. The Hideout Cafe was adorable and very close by so we went in and ordered sandwiches and coffees. The coffee alone took about 15 min which was troubling, but there were only two ladies working the cafe and it was packed so we let it slide. After we got our coffee, we had to wait another 45 minutes before we got our sandwiches, and even then we only got them when I went up and asked the lady behind the counter if she could make our sandwiches, since we had to leave soon. The worst part of all this is that the reason this waiter hadn't made our sandwiches was because her husband and two little sons had come into the cafe and she'd made them lunch BEFORE finishing making our sandwiches. So obviously at this point we're all a little fed up. We stand to leave and I go to pay for my food (which was a total of 6 pounds). I put in my debit card, and it makes a little beep like its paid, so I pull it out. But when I pull it out I notice it says "waiting.." so I ask this lady if my card's gone through or if i need to put it back in. She halfway glances at it and says "its gone through, it's just very slow". So I take her word for it and leave. At this point we're late for our semester and one of my friends is really stressing out. As we turn the corner away from the cafe, this same waitress come running and yelling towards us because, apparently, my card HADNT gone through. i gave her a 10 pound note, because it was all the cash i had on me, and we left. She told me to come in later and she'd reimburse me the 4 pounds. However the next morning we went back in to get coffee, and the waitress from the day before didn't offer me my money back, even though she clearly recognized me. I didn't bother asking for my 4 pounds back, because honestly that's not a battle I'd ever pick. The food was fine, the coffee decent, the cafe is cute except for the waitresses screaming sons, which rather ruined the ambiance. The staff was just so shockingly unprofessional that it didn't make it worth it even a little.

HI I'm Sam a 5 yr old sproodle. I visited The Hideout last Sunday with my mummy. We were watching the power lifting Junior championships in The Elsyium Gym and they recommended we come here for a cup of tea. Mummy had the homemade carrot cake and I had a bit too. It was lovely and moist. I was given a bowl of cold water to drink. Lots of people made a fuss over me and I was allowed to visit the toilet with mummy so I wouldn't be left by myself. Mummy took daddy a coffee. The bill for cake, tea and a takeaway coffee was around £8. We will be visiting again. It was clean and very relaxed and friendly.

Mi esposo señaló esto y me dijeron que iban a lidiar con eso con un repelente de moscas, pero parece un problema peor que esto, tal vez un nido. No volveremos a visitarlo, lo cual es una pena, ya que tienen algunas cosas bonitas, pero la idea de que todas las moscas que aterrizan en la comida nos hayan desanimado. We loved this place - actually it was the best service we had the whole time we were in Edinburgh! Kind and helpful staff, excellent lunch options - salads, wraps, pastries, desserts... Good tea selection. Quaint decor, lots of windows so good natural light. A nice break from the dark pubs.

Staff were great. One of the girls came to the table to get out order as I had my 9 months old son. Great sandwiches and desserts. Highly recommended and would definitely come here again.

Hervorragendes Ambiente in einem stilvollen Gebäude, schöne Inneneinrichtung mit Sammlung von Kassettenrekordern und anderen Audiogeräten, exzellente Angebote - ideal für einen Ausflug weg von der überfüllten Princes Street!

He estado viniendo a Edimburgo casi cada verano durante los últimos 5 años y este es el lugar en el que vuelven a. Gran variedad de café, desayunos, almuerzos y sabrosos pasteles. Lugar acogedor, un ambiente acogedor y buen servicio. Y ponen la música a través de un radio cassette!

Visitamos Leith el pasado jueves. Por desgracia, nos perdimos un poco, pero, afortunadamente, descubrimos este encantador café en ruta, peculiar. Es un ambiente cálido, acogedor, agradable y pequeño lugar, con acompañamiento musical! Se llena bastante y parece un lugar estupendo para madres y niños pequeños - con mucho espacio para aparcar cochecitos.

Acogedor lugar peculiar, agradable servicio, buen menú, con precios muy razonables. He estado varias veces, siempre después de un largo paseo. No es fino, pero sus pastrón, gouda, rábano picante y sandwich (puerta de tamaño gherkin gruesa masa madre pan) es una obra maestra culinaria. Mejor tostado.

The Hideout Cafe is a very warm and welcoming little place. Great choice of coffee, breakfasts, lunches and sweets! Like most places in Leith it’s dog friendly so you’ll always find some furry friends to say hello to :-)

I visited this place twoce last weekend as it was so nice. The best part (other than the coffee) is the extensive audio cassette collection. You can put play any of your favourite classics whilst sipping a good cup of coffe

Mi familia y yo tomamos el desayuno en la cafetería esta mañana. Fue una gran experiencia que llegué a casa y escribí esta crítica. Nunca escribo comentarios, pero este lugar me gustó tanto que hice una cuenta de tripadvisor. La comida era realmente buena! El rollo de canela era deliciosa degustación de queso crema casera con glaseado. La avena era de color crema y increíble con un montón de plátanos y frutos secos. El aguacate tostada era realmente buena con pan delicioso artesanales. Los cafés eran perfectos. El café también es muy hermoso. Molduras de yeso del techo tiene hermosas y las paredes son de un color encantador color turquesa. Las paredes están decoradas con lindos Molinillos de café vintage y boomboxes con una impresionante colección de cintas de cassette y buena música. También era un buen calentador de espacio cálido. El personal era muy amable y agradable. Me encanta este lugar, sin duda volveremos!

We stayed in Leith for three days and went here for breakfast every morning. Couldn’t fault it - porridge was delicious and warming, and coffee was good. Also warm and cosy, which is definitely a plus in Edinburgh winter!

I always go to this cafe for a coffee whenever I am in Leith visiting my sister. Great coffee, cakes and always pleasant and authentic conversation from the staff. Today was particularly evocative, as the two members of staff dealt with a difficult and incredibly rude customer in front of me. I was mortified, but the staff didn’t rise to it, and continued being helpful and cheerful despite clearly having a very busy day - there wasn’t much left in terms of lunch stock when I popped in 15 minutes before closing (a sign of good food and careful, sustainable planning) - very impressive! Thanks again for a lovely coffee, made with great care and attention, and delivered on a recycled cup no less. Look forward to returning at Christmas.

Spent last morning in Leith here. Great atmosphere with some lovey quirks e.g. Tape player with an eclectic mix of tapes playing. Nice breakfast with a rather reduced selection of breakfast options. Deserts are awesome and particularly enjoyed the cheesecake brownie.

We were stopping in an overpriced dive in Leith. Luckily only a short walk away was the Hideout Café. The bacon and fried egg rolls did just the job. The fresh orange juice also comes highly recommended. It is freshly squeezed there. My only issue was the one morning my wife had scrambled egg which had way too much salt in. Apart from that it was a great place for breakfast.

We were walking in the area and decided to stop for an impromptu mid afternoon drink and snack at this corner cafe in Leith. It was busy as you would expect for a Saturday but we got a table by the window.There was a good selection on the menu and we went for healthy shakes and banana bread. Both were fresh and good and reasonably priced. The cafe is very relaxed and informal; open 7 days with free wifi.More enjoyable experience than your average cafe so we will certainly go back next time we are in the area.

I've lived in Leith now for three years, and The Hideout has been my favourite cafe since my first visit. The coffee is excellent, the food great, and the scones... well, I'm a convert to scones due to theirs! It's a very friendly and warm cafe any day of the week. Kudos to all the staff, including the owner Hassan.

What a lovely coffee shop, it was very friendly. We went for some coffee & cake. I ended up have a toasted focaccia sandwich, it was one of the best I've tasted. Then I had a slice of yummy carrot cake to end with. I highly recommend this place.

One of my favourite cafes for breakfast or lunch or afternoon tea and cake. The food tastes and looks so good. I have brought family and friends here as i like it so much. Staff are really friendly and has such a nice atmosphere.

For a lovely breakfast, brunch or coffe over the day with your laptop, is my favorite place in Leith. I'm used to ask for a cappuccino, delicious and some scone or cakes. Try it all even for good groups I'm happy to come. The service is amazing and decoration cozy and confortable. The blue and vintage environment make men feel relax and out side the box.

What A find. Great coffee fantastic fresh juices and smoothies. Nice menu, they don't try to do everything but what they do they do well. Their honey cake marlenka is one of the best cakes I have tasted, this from someone who does this for a living.

Visited for breakfast with a friend at the start of the year. Sausages in a roll, cups of tea and juice for me. Staff are attentive and keen to make sure that we were comfortable and had everything that we needed. This is a lovely venue for a catch up with friends or for a light work meeting. The range of items on the menu is extensive, so you should find something for you on it!

This is a great place to hang out with friends or even just to sit and read a book on a wet afternoon. They use Artisan Roast coffee, and know what to do with it. The premises are dog friendly. Accessibility isn't great (there are steps, and you could not manoeuvre a wheelchair in the lavatory, although you could get a guide dog in there).There is wifi, but it's sometimes a bit shaky.The staff are friendly, and service is excellent.I like the place, and will keep going back.
