I stayed here last week, unplanned but ended up here after a day hiking. The landlady was so friendly, kind and helpful. The locals in there were welcoming too. It was a great recharge, and I would recommend this pub highly, whether for a drink or to stay. Thank you! :)

Stayed for 1 night only as needed a bit of sleep on a long journey. The owner was so accommodating and I felt so welcome in this beautiful place. I have arrived late (past 1am) and I was offered a refreshing pint on arrival 👍 Bed was super comfortable and I could not hear anything as place was in such nice quiet location. In the morning owner looked after me at the breakfast and cooked amazing full English/Irish breakfast, served properly on a hot plate (not many places do that). It was such a refreshing stay to gain power before heading off again. Thank you 🙏

Accomodation and Breakfast only. No food but bar open. Its a 400 year old pub in remote area. Can be narrow roads on way there. Seems remote but only 5 miles to Denbigh or the Coast. Room is good. A REAL Welsh pub. Can be very quiet. The locals speak welsh. Have a great beer and the AberFalls malt welsh whiskey is fantastic. The owner is from the farm nearby. She is great. Breakfast is good

We have stayed at this hotel before under previous ownership. It was a beautiful old coaching in steeped in history with luxurious rooms with spar baths and ann excellent breakfast. Disappointed to find all of this has changed. The front of the hotel and rooms have been modernised. The rooms had IKEA style furniture and the baths no longer in use. There was no plug so presumably we were only allowed showers. There were no shower gels either. The large breakfast was small and initially had no egg. There was no cereals on offer. It all seemed to be running on a budget. I appreciate that new owners have to put a stamp on their business but it was sad that they stamped over what was great about this lovely hotel. I have to say the staff and locals were friendly as ever but for us this visit was a huge disappointment.

I rang a couple of days before to book a table for four, we were visiting North Wales and taking my mum out to lunch. Arrived 10mins before the table was booked, only because I knew where the Hawk & Buckle was as my wife and I stayed there a couple of years ago. New owners now and both very friendly and most helpful both in escorting my elderly mum into the dinning room and what was on offer. What we didn't know was the restaurant was actually closed for a special dinner party later that evening, no problem, I'd rung up a couple of days before and was coming from Derbyshire, so we were made most welcome to the Hawk & Buckle.Everything on the menu was available, two of us had lasagne and home made chips, one had salmon and one had mushroom stroganoff with rice and chips, we had apple & blackberry pie and custard for afters, everything was piping hot and very tasty, no complaints whatsoever and the view is fantastic, you can see right over to the North Wales Coast.I do know that if you stay over and the weathers good, you can talk a nice walk along the lane at the back of the pub and come to a point where if you look West you can see Snowdon, West over to Chester and North to the coast, if you're there on a clear evening, it's possible to see the lights on the Blackpool Tower. AmazingSome contributors have said that it's a difficult place to find, it is in the middle of nowhere but so is Everest you wouldn't pop out for the day to go there without doing a bit of research and the same applies here, all you have to do is follow the signs to Llannefydd, If you use a Sat Nav put in LL16 5ED, believe me this is a pub worth the effort. If that's not enough, the beer is right nice, you'll need to get someone else to drive or stay in one of the lovely rooms with a view of the coast.

Amazing old inn with 1712 engraved on the fireplace. We came here a few years ago and the food was better then. It's just been taken over. The Sunday roasts were great but somewhat bland in my view. The rest of the family enjoyed it more than me. I had the lamb which was nice but the chicken looked very plain. The gravy was ok. The apple pie was a bit dull and I have got indigestion afterwards. Lovely walk in the vicinity. Lots of welsh speakers in there who studiously ignored us which I always find a bit rude, but that was the customers not the staff. I don't understand how a family can just speak entirely in welsh like they live in a Celtic bubble.

After waiting almost 20 minutes to order our evening meal it took over an hour for it to be served. We ordered drinks which were never served, we had to go to the bar to get our own and then we were charged for the drinks that never arrived! The food when it did arrive had clearly been microwaved and was very average to say the least. We were left for the full hour with no explanation of why our food would take so long and were not once asked if everything was ok. We were then not offered desert. I would not stay here again. We were staying in the next village for the week and the guest book gave this place a couple of recommendations for food. Ignore the exterior and the fact that it's not open lunchtimes (times are hard in this part of Wales). Six of us had a wonderfull evening here, all the food is freshly prepared and cooked and they can even adapt the menu for people with gluten intolerance, etc. They managed to please my mother in law with all aspects of the evening and she is a tough critic! They also have a good selection of ales (some local) and wines. All in all a great evening out and we left a well deserved tip.

Just got back from a weekend stay here and was a nice place to stay. I would have rated very good but the room we stayed in was very dated and could have done with a better clean and maybe some new furniture. The view from the room though was rather stunning. The owner came across as a bit rude on the first day but after spending a bit of time with him we realised that he is just very straight talking and he is very helpful and nice. The food was lovely and home cooked and th ebar does feel like your relaxing at home. There are no shops close by and it can be hard to find with a sat nav. Also the cat brought in a dead rabbit the morning we was leaving and then was sitting in the hall eating it as lots of guests looked on horrified. All in all though if you want somewhere small and homely to stay then this is the place :)

We were visiting the area for a funeral and were told that the Hawk and Buckle was open for a drink afterwards. We stuck our heads through to the door and asked the man behind the bar if he was open. He wasn't (despite having agreed to be) and instead of just saying so, proceeded to patronise us and make us feel stupid for even having thought that he could possibly be open, upsetting everyone. Not a very nice way to treat a family who arrive at your (open) door, dressed in black, clearly having just come from a funeral! Please avoid, or if you go then please tell the bar man that he might do better business being a little bit more friendly.

Cosy cafe. Not many tables and can get quite busy. Staff friendly and helpful. Nice bit of music in the background. Breakfast was nice but would have been good to have the option of a poached egg. Only option was fried. Enjoyed my milkshake and my partner enjoyed his coffee. Fair value for money given the tourist area. No parking directly outside but carparks closeby and road parking a way up the road.

Coffee was better than costa and the cake was to die for , all served with a smile. I will definitely be stopping by again.

Tried to charge for a squeeze of Costco ketchup on my son’s chips after I spent £15 on drinks and chips. It’s easy to spend my hard earned money ANYWHERE else. Usually really like going out of my way to support local independent business that go the extra mile to attract more tourists to the area…. Won’t be coming back here unfortunately. Shame as the location is great. Perhaps this is a little petty, but I thought it just plain mean.

Nice home cooked food, friendly staff! Visited a few times now, a basis looking place but the quality and choice of good home cooked food with really friendly service keeps us coming back and recommending to family. Great value, easy access and free parking.

This is just the most wonderful place..! Afternoon tea today - their own-blend leaf tea was to die for. Best "cuppa" we've had in a long time. The fixed-price afternoon tea came with our choice of sandwich from the main menu, a choice of home-made cake, and an extremely generous portion of bara brith. scones & Welsh cakes. Do this at least once in your life. The quality is exceptional as is the customer-service - real nice people working here. Vert traditional tea-room setting - about 20 covers inside? Seating also available outside and their are quite extensive trails up & behind the property to walk off some of the carbs ;) If you're visiting the Conwy Valley this needs to be on your list.
