The Hartshead Inn in Tameside

Steak was full of fat and grizzle, chips had been re warmed I think in hot fat and were hard. My daughter had a prawn pasta dish that was completely tasteless and all far too expensive for the quality. Wouldn’t go again or recommend. Staff were very nice though.

The surroundings are lovely. The staff were professional and helpful. The food was less than average pub grub and ridiculously expensive for what one got in portion size and flavour. Main course dishes averaged £20 each.The drinks were completely overpriced...£3.20 for a mini Fevertree tonic which was almost the same price as the gin it went into. The management team need to think about what they are offering to customers and get their price point reviewed.

Enjoyed lunch with a friend,all served by the lovely Marie,who always makes a visit to the Hartshead inn very special .

Great pub/resturant with friendly service. Not cheap but good quality.

We've had 2 meals here and both have been delicious. My only criticism, and it's a personal preference really, is that things are over seasoned to my taste. I don't like to be able to taste the salt.

Half and half. Had the roast dinner. The bad bits involved over cooked roasts, over cooked veg, over cooked Yorkshire puddings. Excellent service and well cooked chicken.

Went for late lunch with my daughter. Not been for a long time as couldn't get in as COVID and lock down intervened. Also food not very good. When I saw it was an ego restaurant, I knew it was going to be good food as visited a few . And it was absolutely delicious. Both my daughters and mine. Thank you ego. Staff lovely too.

The Harts head has been revamped & they've done a really good job. They have various promotions during the week. We went on a Wednesday when they had "2 courses for 2 for £30" (or £40 with a bottle of wine

This is no longer called the Hartshead Inn. It's called Ego!! It is still part of the same pub group, though. Mitchell and butlers. Service was great, food was good but average if you look at the price you are paying. Lovely location though.

Fantastic!!!! What a lovely treat on a Wednesday night for myself and my partner. We took full advantage of the two courses per person, plus a bottle of house wine for £40.and it didn’t disappoint. Staff were lovely and we will definitely be returning.

We decided to go here for a birthday treat as I had a buy one get one free voucher, my daughter had steak and I had the pork, my other daughter had the lunch menu wrap. The rump steak was very burnt and fatty and small, the size of a small chop, the wrap was very small like a child's wrap and had vertually no humus inside, the only meal that was okay was the pork, a few things off the menu isn't as described when you get it, belly pork was about 4 very tiny nuggets for £9 with tiny tiny minute squares of black pudding, wish I'd taken pic but phone was not connecting for that one, we decided not to do desert, overall we were a bit deflated, but the staff were nice and the decor is lovely, cosy atmosphere.

Used to be a lovely pub before it closed and was "refurbished". Is now called ego. My mum had the pil pil starter, six prawns floating in tastless oil. I had the king prawn linguine in the same tastless oil but with a burnt hint. All the chillies and herbs made no difference, they may as well have not been there. My son had the chicken dippers, which again, we're tastless and the chips undercooked. Absolutely awful, would never return.

Absolutely a disaster 6 of us went out for a family meal Saturday 30-3-2024 we ordered our meals waitress came back could only supply 1 meal out of the 6 as they had run out of those meals and even the 1 they could supply was not complete as they had run out of peppercorn sauce it completely ruined the night for the family we left without eating and had to find another restaurant I couldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone completely very bad management also 2 weeks prior to this I ordered a rump steak to find out that they had run out of rump steak I will never use this Restaurant again John Cropper

Visting the area from the South Coast for Easter, fantastic venue, food and staff where really friendly, would highly recommend seems to be the best place locally 👍

Recently refurbished to a high standard this is a lovely place to visit. Rural setting with lovely views. Large and varied menu The food was absolutely delicious Great staff too

Had lunch here and to be honest the food was only ok. The service was incredibly slow and they even sent our order to a different table which meant we waited 50 minutes for our starter, also the drinks were a bit pricey

Lovely and clean steak a little chewy due to all the grizzle fries were nice nice atmosphere Our server was a young lady called Paige E who was polite attentive and a credit to the restaurant will return again

I've been here a few times and the food is great but last time I booked by telephone I didn't realise that it was mother's Sunday I don't celebrate it so it just wasn't in my head, I booked a table for what I expected was a Sunday lunch but on arrival I was handed a menu that was a set price 3 course mother's day special no other option was available none of the party I was with wanted any of the available menu nor did we want to pay £36 a head the staff didn't seem to care we went to the chippy instead disappointed with the staff on this occasion the lady taking the booking should have let me know when I was making my booking that It was a reduced set menu.

Mothers day 10th March, very disappointed. Wasn't told when booking it was a set menu as we were going for the extensive menu , one member ordered duck the plate and food was cold, then had to send it back because it was tough difficult to cut. And absalutey astonished you are asking £9.95 for a glass of wine.

Lovely place with over looking a nice view, very welcoming, and also cosy.

Took my wife and family out for dinner today the food was shocking cold under cooked potato were hard veg cold meat was overcooked Yorkshire pudding was cold it was not good at all the beer was nice

I will start by saying what a lovely place and I would go back again. However, we were a party of 13 in the 'private' room for my mum's birthday and we could see that the place was busy. After about 20mins, our waiter Lucas, who was great, came in and took our order, then came back 10 mins later to say there was a 30 min wait. When the starters arrived they were cold. One of our party had friends in the restaurant and had been told that their mains were cold so we said this to Lucas and he made sure our mains were hot, which you shouldn't have to do. As I said earlier, despite all of this I would go back again but was slightly disappointed as it was highly recommended to us. It might be worth getting larger parties to pre-order food and the process may be speeded up. The main thing was that my mum had a wonderful time 🙂

2nd visit since reopened. This time had lunch instead of evening meal and was equally as good as my first visit. Lovely setting, welcome greeting by staff on entering and immediately shown to a lovely window table. Very friendly attentive staff throughout nothing too much trouble. Caitlin, Paige and Joe so professional yet friendly at same time. We had mixed paella followed by mini dessert with coffees. The mini desserts were just enough after our gorgeous paella. Will be back had a lovely afternoon Thankyou 😊

Last dined here over twenty years ago - nicely renovated and good menu choices although a bit pricier than other local eateries. Service marked down a little due to overcharge on bill. Food was good & Sunday menu quite good value - pity rest of menu a little over priced & draught lager is very expensive!

We have just had a splendid evening at hartshead Inn, the food was delicious, the service was excellent, the young members of staff could not have been any more helpful and pleasant. We took our golden retriever with us and was not put in a corner. Lovly surroundings and soo comfy. Thankyou ... we'll be back!!!!!!!!

I ate here last night (04.02.24) and I had a pork sunday roast. The look of the new pub is gorgeous but I wont be going back unfortunately. My pork dinner had four small circles of pork and my plate was filled with potatos (6 roast potatos is far too much personally) and little veg. I came home from my meal with my family and I and my sister have been violently ill. Running to the loo and throwing up less than 10 hours after we had eaten. I will not be visiting here again, they obviously need to sort their kitchen standards out! I ate here before it was taken over by Ego and had no issues what so ever. Clearly Ego as a business need to check in with their staff if they are complying with health and safety!

Good food at reasonable prices in great surroundings. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Great craft beers. Another company has taken over the restaurant with a Mediterranean style menu.

Bit shocked at the fact dogs are allowed in where food is being served has put me off dining saw the lady on the front desk clear tables but didn't wipe them clean a customer come in to dine and had to ask for the table to be cleaned not a good experience.

Absolutely shocking, went in today we had booked a table for 3.30pm, we was in for 3 hours!! The service was terrible we had to keep asking where our food is, then dessert took even longer my 11 yr is son has type 1 dibietes and I needed to do his injection but can't do it till he finished all his courses, the roast beef I couldn't even eat it was pink and way under cooked it was absolutely disgusting. Then had to wait ages for the bill by this point we was ready for just walking out, then good job we checked bill cause was more than it should be!! We won't be returning anytime soon very disappointed use to love it b4 it got took over

Great food but speed of food from the kitchen was slow

Dropped in for lunch on Jan 16th. excellent parking, very warm welcome, great service and great food. Portion size was good, very well cooked and presented. Despite being quite busy service was swift as they had plenty of people on hand. Prices were good value given the type of establishment. All in all excellent, I can't see anything not to like. In summer the views outside will also be fantastic. Will definitely go back.

Shocking didn't like anything on this new menu, my son in law waited 50mins for a pizza, I ended up with a child's meal awfull. They didn't even have fish and chips won't go again.

Now Ego and serve Mediterranean cuisine. I've visited Hartshead Inn my whole life and arranged to see friends this Xmas we picked here under its new decor and labelling of Ego. The food was good. Decor is lovely. Drinks are the prices you'd expect. Although I ordered a tanqueray and tonic and was told they only have tanqueray 10, I asked what the difference was, and the bar tender didn't know, so I said find sure. The difference was its alot more expensive than the normal tanqueray so I wasn't happy about that. Service during the meal was OK, but soon as the mains were done, staff were more interested in getting their close down jobs done that helping us. Had to chase up where our desserts were and go find someone to ask for the bill. The bar seating is lovely for enjoying a drunk before or after food. I would go again

Fantastic. Beautiful renovation just as beautiful as before.

Was very keen to visit the new Ego restaurant. Spontaneous stop with a friend. The apple and parsnip soup was the best thing I've eaten in a long time. My friends chicken pate equally delicious. The mini puddings are a big hit with us too. The service was (as always) beyond reproach. So pleased weve had opportunity to view the new exciting menu and find standards are as high as ever!

Newly furnished. Great new menu. Calories were a bit scary.

Bar area is warm, welcoming and cosy. Had a nice pint of Adnams Ghost Ship, although there were no labels on the chrome cask pumps so I had to ask first if they had any ales.

Went Monday 13th November. For daughter and son-in-law birthday so 3 vegans and 1 carnivore.loved that vegan options were on separate menu. Service was excellent staff very friendly, food absolutely gorgeous. Definitely going again.

Wow! wasn’t expecting this, Hartshead Inn on the verge of re-opening to the general public after a major refurbishment has elevated itself to become the best place in the area, in All aspects. Absolutely amazing, had an incredible evening! The interior is stunning, the food is amazing and what makes this even better, is how special the fabulous staff make you feel the moment you walk through the door. To have a restaurant pub of this quality has been long overdue in Saddleworth and the surrounding area. Big thanks to the Beth, Paige, Sam & Kaya for making the evening so memorable and to all the other members of staff working away in the background, was great to meet Megan and Craig from the corporate perspective too. So looking forward to returning very soon and on a regular basis.

Very quiet when visited for lunch on a Thursday. Set menu good value, food average at best. Lovely staff but service was slow considering the amount of customers. They have plans for revamp and change to Med style restaurant in near future so best wait for that due in November.

Friendly service and a great Sunday dinner.

We had never been here before and we weren’t disappointed. The atmosphere is friendly, just like the staff, and the food was delicious. There was a great choice of food and it was tasty and well presented. We will definitely be returning soon.

Lovely setting, good food and service

This is a large pub and it was very quiet when we visited at lunchtime. The staff are lovely but the service slow. It seems the place is being remodelled into a Mediterranean style restaurant in the next few weeks.
