Hadn't visited in a long time, I looked at the website, which made it sound warm and friendly. Unfortunately, it was anything but. Staff behind the bar were surly, miserable, and unwelcoming. Only 3 others in the bar, no atmosphere, so we went into the garden, which was unkempt and a complete mess. Rotten decking, rotten seating, it hasn't had any attention for a long time. All in all, I definitely won't be going back, it's such a shame that an LGBTQ bar in Eastbourne, that has been there so many years, has become such a dismal place, the owners obviously need to step back and take another look, to bring it back to the heaving bar I remember.

Visited for the first time and loved it. Really friendly staff, reasonably priced drinks and the food looked fab!

Had a few days in Eastbourne and was recommended the Hart as the only trans friendly pub in Eastbourne, which is a shame. Popped in a couple of times and ate there one evening and I must say the food was very competitively priced and perfectly adequate pub grub. I will be returning next time I am in Eastbourne

A+++ It was my first time in this big LGBTQ 🏳️‍🌈Pub/Club. The two young guys who served us were exceptionally adorable, very chatting, friendly and make you feel confortable soon as you walk in (rolling in for me 😅). They have a proper disabled toilet 🚻 and a big ramp on the side of the building for wheelchair ♿ 😀. This is brilliant 👏. We will come back. On the weekend, they have drag show, smocking area, dance floor etc. Inside the decor is beautiful. Definitely try it. Brilliant. XXG Gilles Guichard

Nice place, Very reasonable prices and friendly staff. Was visiting the town with my significant other after a long hike from Seaford and that exactly what was needed. The first pint of Birra Moretti was cold, fresh and made me feel the achievement of a long day of hiking up and down on the seven sisters cliff. There are queer shows but nothing was scheduled on that night. Absolutely coming back.

Staff are exceptionally friendly, prices are great and location spot on. Will definitely visit again next time we come this way.

Haven't been in "The Hart" for many years, but found a very warm welcome when a farewell do was held there on Saturday 31st August 2019. A good night was had by all I would say especially with the entertainment that night.. ;-)

Just got back from a private function here, great food, nice selection of drinks, lovely staff and a great welcoming venue.

Poor decor - poor part of Eastbourne - said to be popular but always empty or near empty when I have visited. Needs a good makeover - re themed and a more commercially aware management team. Will need a strong business idea to be viable in this location

Very friendly with a menu that would rival that of a top London restaurant. Away from the main clubbing area of Eastbourne, the pub has many theme nights throughout the year which are usually well supported. The club bar can be hired for private functions and parties.I found the bar staff to be very friendly and helpful and up for a laugh. Will certainly be going back.

Preferimos proyecto tirado cervezas, pero ninguno tenía ofrecen cervezas botellas hacen un fueron elegidos que eran suficientes para nosotros antes de que el ánimo y pizza a casa en coche. Nos sentamos en las mesas de noche y estudió el tentador menú, pero en estos momentos. No estamos comiendo mucho carne hoy en día y noté el menú era carente de opciones para vegetarianos. Quizás hamburguesas de hongos se ofrecen? Visité el retrete después de pedir las pizzas al lado y el caballeros era muy elegante y limpio! Inusual para bares gays! Espero bar de las muchachas es similar! ! En la habitación de al lado el equipo estaban preparando para el viernes por la noche de cabaret que nos invitaron a declinar pero tenía cortésmente como en Londres! Preguntamos si podíamos comer las pizzas en el pub junto con otra bebida, pero el propietario dijo que no, suficiente. Es una pena que pronto ya que las hamburguesas eran muy tentadora. Horse Francia no está tan lejos, así que la carne es más fácilmente disponible! ! Después nos recogieron los pizza en 21:45 El pub estaba mucho más concurrido. Seems a nice place will be back to try food next time

I suspect that the reviews left for this venue where by people directly connected to it. We were done in Eastbourne and decided to check out local gay venues... this was the only one. Reviews seemed okay, although suspicious, but we went along and checked it out regardless. The staff were unfriendly... very much that provincial stereotype of being stared at by locals and staff in a way that makes you feel deeply uncomfortable. The staff failed to greet us with a smile, didn't ask us where we're from or try to make small talk (which might have made us feel a little more at ease). From the bar you could see a filthy kitchen - which made us joke about reviews saying the venue could "rival a London restaurant". The music was absolutely dire too, I mean, I don't mind a little T-Rex, but maybe not on a Saturday night. The place had potential, just a shame it was so... provincial, grubby and unfriendly.

For those of us that remember what it is like to go to a new place and seek out a gay bar then you will know what I mean when I say this place is your traditional gay bar. Friendly, great prices and ok it may be quiet at 5pm on a Wednesday but that's why it needs gays like us to go there and buy drinks! I really liked this place. I loved the prices and it's an easy place to sit and have a drink. The locals were friendly. I came from Brighton and I'm spoiled by a great gay scene and I'd happily come again. My wife and I felt very comfortable. Support this great little gay bar. Come along and buy a a drink and hang out for a while. Double up on spirits for £1. You can't go wrong!

Went in for a pint or two after the airshow rather than stand in the queue for the train home. It seemed a nice place although at 4.30 in the afternoon it was quiet, we sat in the garden at the rear of the pub which was lovely and certainly helped the beer go down. We didn't eat, but from what we saw the food looked good. Definitely visit again.

There are not many Gay Pubs left in smaller towns, it was nice to call in and have a reasonably priced drink in nice surroundings. We were only in Eastbourne for a few days and we had planed a visit here before we left home. We did not have food but saw what was being served looked good. Although it was quite we had a good time and we were made to feel welcome.

my friend and i visited on Saturday 18.7.15 at around 9pm we had heard that the pub was friendly and had entertainment we were quite disappointed the place was very quiet we asked if there was going to be something on later bar staff said a Disco.We left after an hour as still quiet and didn't seem to be the place to be .

I've been coming to the Hart, or Hartington as we knew it, since way back when. This would be a fantastic pub and community hub for gay people in Eastbourne. In many respects, it has served as this. Unfortunately, the live-in landlord is extremely unfriendly, makes regular customers feel as if they are inconveniencing him and generally doesn't like to be disturbed away from his corner at the bar and his e-cigarette. Last night (3rd July 2015), several customers had to witness the Landlord's "partner" brandish a knife and grapple an innocent man to the floor who happened to pop in for a drink. To drum the matter home, the young female bar assistant actually fled from her place of work. If the bar staff are fleeing, imagine the customer's reaction! Make no mistake, this pub and its community has been near single-handedly ruined by one man and his ill-temper. Customers should not be privy to violence. Customers should not be made to feel unwelcome. Customers should not tolerate gutter violence at the bar. This pub has been brought down to the level of the 1980s when violence and menace was a regular event here. As you can see from other reviews of this pub, customers can be very loyal and appreciate - indeed, love - the Hart. Many of these reviews came about because one former member of the community took a wide-ranging pot shot at general customers and staff last year. This isn't that - I love our community too, but sadly one grimace and dirty look from the landlord's corner is one too many. Sorry guys. In its defence, the co-owner is an absolute star, all the barmaids do a fantastic job and are courteous and bubbly - they make a real effort to be pleasant. The regulars are good people; characters in the best tradition. Sadly a lot of these efforts are totally ruined, and sadly I advise new customers to stay away until there is new ownership, when I have no doubt this will be a lovely, thriving pub again.

I've been a few times and it's been deserted. This is no surprise to me as I found it to be very unwelcoming and unfriendly. The furniture seemed grubby too.

The food, freshly cooked,was very tasty and filling Nice to see fresh oxtail soup on the menu boards. Selection of meals would put quite a few of local food outlets. Recommended. Thank you to Andrew our chef.

I met my dear friend here for Sunday lunch and was pleasantly surprised by their new menu. As well as all the pub favourites they have new 'special burgers' - they have 5 special burgers - llama, mouflon, kangaroo, veal or horse. I had the mouflon and my friend had the llama burger. They came with salad, cheese and chips ( all burgers can be personalised as per your requirements ). The price was short of amazing £6!!!! Which is a lot cheaper than a standard burger at somewhere like Bills. We also had sides of mac and cheese and onion rings to share and again an amazing price £1.70. So if you are looking for a different burger experience then visit the hart. Their kitchen is open Wednesday - Sunday from open until the later time 8pm now due to customer demand ( was 7pm ). Definitely going again!!!!

I come in here far too often but I don't mind! The variety of the food, the freshness of the drink and the sheer knowledge of the barstaff. The people here are so welcoming they are sure to make you want to come back and enjoy another fun filled night!!

March was a busy one for me socially and I had the best nights of the year so far in this pub. On the second Friday they had a special chaos with Cozmo as it was it's first birthday. There were nearly 150 people there I reckon and the singers were great as was the entertainment from the drag queens they had that evening. On the Sunday we were treated to some games of bingo and some shocking prizes but it was fun. Food was great and I'm looking forward to trying the new menu in April. Gary behind the bar is so welcoming and Andrew cooked us some lovely food.

Been in here a few times, fantastic atmosphere, staff are very friendly. The Mighty Queen burger is brilliant, ate the burger but couldnt finish all the chips! Clean open kitchen, well worth coming to for food or a chilled out evening!

I came to this pub few years ago and i really thought it was a great pub, but becoming a regular you start to notice the eyes on the new people who walk through the door. unfortunately the owner has no idea what staff and circle of customers he has in his establishment. If you want a causal drink and nice bacon and chips, do come and enjoy. If your planning to come in a lot,just be careful. The most pathetic bunch of tarts ever, oh and hold on to your man orwoman.

I went to the regular karaoke night ( 2nd Friday of each month ). I thought it might be quiet given it was just over a week since the place was packed on New Years Eve. Well that was far from the truth, it was packed and there was a large group celebrating a birthday which added to the fun atmosphere. There were a couple of female singers who were amazing. They would be winners of any TV talent show for sure. The host was fun and made sure there was a mix of people and the singing wasn't dominated by any one person. I was aiming for an early night that night but ended up saying until 1am due to the fun. Next month it's on Valentines dy and in March it's the hosts birthday and apparently there will be some surprises that night. Can't wait to go to the glitz and glam party on the 25.1.14 as the resident drag queen is doing an hour long show at 9. Top entertainment from a hidden gem in Eastbourne!,

Love it here, I always end up here when out and always have the best time :D The music is really good, and has a great atmosphere.

I fond the place not only friendly and welcoming but also clean and a nice environment. I found the staff all kind friendly and very funny and will try and visit the pub for a nice drink after work and for a good dance too!!!

Met my good friend here and decided to have a snack meal as we both weren't really hungry. We opted for the home made chilli served on chips. A simple snack but it was scrummy. We both then decided to have spotted dick and custard, again homely and satisfying. Cost was around £6-£7 which was a bargain. We enjoyed it so much we're having it again on Sunday :-)

Every time I visit Eastbourne I visit the hart. The food is amazing the staff are always welcoming and friendly and the atmosphere is fantastic. Just wish I didnt live so far away would be there more often. Jenny D

I have been a regular at this pub restaurant for many years--30yrs in total! Since the present proprietors have taken over, the food, which is freshly prepared and cooked in front of the customer is second to none in Eastbourne, with very ample portions at a very reasonable price. The pub is very clean including the toilets. I would thoroughly reccommend this pub/restaurant to any person that enjoys a welcoming and peaceful ambience.There is free parking in the side streets and pay parking on the main road until 18h00.

Myself and my bf come to the pub on a regular basis to either drink and soak in the great atmosphere or have a meal, as the food is very tasty and great value for money (I'm a fan of the killer queen burger). The staff are friendly and very helpful. Don't just take my word for it go on down and check it out yourself!!!X & P

I walked into The Hart 18 months ago as a nervous (at the time "in the closet" ) trans girl and I was totally overwhelmed by how many lovely people came up to make me feel so welcome that I've been regularly visiting there ever since. So much so that these people , both staff and other customers, are my main circle of friends now. I have enjoyed many great nights of entertainment including the Chaos karaoke nights (2nd Friday of the month), stand up drag comedy and the fabulous Hart Players singing/acting their hearts out. I love dancing which is well provided by the dance floor in the rear bar but then no-one seems to mind if I dance in the main bar. Oh yes the pub food is something else, absolutely first class quality and value.

Eaten at the hart a few times now the good is always lovely, freshly prepared on the premises. The establishment is always clean! Easy going atmosphere and very friendly staff. Would most definitely recommend to anyone.

Went to the chaos with cozmo night here which happens on the 2nd Friday of each month. Host was brilliant. Karaoke was great and the atmosphere was electric. Bar staff ( Robert and Charlie ) we're on the ball and very busy. The female singers were amazing!!! All in all a great event and I shall definitely be coming to the one on November the 8th. Thanks for a great night!

Visited the pub last Sunday with a group of friends. This is a well laid out pub with a loverly garden and pond. There were two menu's on offer, a specials board, all meals made on the premises and cooked by the chef. The general menu offers snack meals through to there well renowned Burger Queen and Killer Queen burgers, again all prepared and cooked in their open theatre kitchen. Wine and beer prices were very reasonable and special mention must be their extremely clean toilets. I wish that I lived in the area, as I would definitely make this my regular. However, it gives me a bigger incentive to visit Eastbourne more often now.

I saw the comical advert about real horse burgers being served here ( not the cheap imitations you find in supermarkets ) so i thought I would try one. It was really nice and reasonable - about £5 with fries. Andrew cooked the food and Gary was behind the bar and he was extremely friendly and welcoming. The other customers had ordered from the specials board ( £6 ish for a main or £3 ish for a soup and ciabatta, and they all looked yummy. I want to try the pulled pork wrap next time. The kitchen is open from 4-7 Tuesday to Friday and 12-7 Weekends. The kitchen was very clean and you can see it as its an open kitchen adjacent to the bar.
