Thank you Becky and all the staff for making our walking group’s Christmas lunch so successful. The food was lovely , the service excellent especially considering we were a group of 24. I would recommend this pub to anyone for the quality and variety of the menu.

I would rate this 6 stars if I could! I came here while on a short break with friends, and we were all staggered by such a fantastic evening at the Hare & Hounds Mill Brow. The staff were very accommodating and from starters to desserts, everything was exquisite. All our courses, sides, and drinks were consistently fresh & delicious. Inside is a warm, pleasant and relaxed atmosphere; outside the building is quaint, well kept and beautiful. I will always remember this evening as my perfect dining experience.

Incredible hidden gem, could not fault anything at all. Staff were wonderful and friendly, we were running late for our table as we accidentally went to the wrong restaurant and they were happy to seat us anyway. The food was all perfectly cooked and delicious, we wish we could have tried it all! The chef is an absolute genius. The steak was the best I’ve ever tried and vegetarian options were delicious too. Even simple things such as the chicken crisps I had were amazing. I wish I took pictures but it looked so good that we started eating straight away. I cannot recommend the Hare and Hounds enough. We had the butternut squash risotto, H&H burger, 8oz flat iron steak, chicken salt crisps, truffle and parmesan fries, sticky toffee pudding, affogato and crumble with custard. We paid a little under £140 for the meal and happily left a tip on top.

Wife ordered beef Sunday roast. Tasted great but one carrot, 2 of the smallest potatos tea spoon of puray and hardly any gravy 18.00. I ordered fish and chips 18.00 asked for bread and butter which they didn't know how to charge, so they charged me 5.00 side order 5.00 for bread and butter. My fish and chips was disgusting to the point in still feeling rough in the little I hate. The dogs had fish and I could not even cut the chips , they were that overly cooked. Explained to the nice lady my issue, who said she would get the chef. No chef , no apologies no interest. Can't understand why a chef who should take pride in his work, does not want to know what's up with my meal 77.00 pound wasted. Will never go there again, and hopefully my sickness will clear up soon. Ps I'm not a complainer, I've just looked at my past reviews on here, and 15 are 5 ⭐ with fab feedback

UPDATING THIS REVIEW - the venue has now been taken over and my comments about the atmosphere are no longer valid. It is a brilliant place, hence me increasing my review to a five star from a four. The most beautiful pub! Service and staff are lovely and welcoming. Very nice menu too. Must say that they could do with some background music to generate some atmosphere as it can be oppressively silent in there if there’s not many people in. We’ve been a few times now either weekend evenings or weekend afternoons and have found ourselves whispering as it’s that quiet. Very easily fixed!

We visited here a few weeks ago to take advantage of the Italian tasting menu. The food was absolutely superb and service was very attentive. A minor criticism was that it was very noisy, both from the clientele that was in (lots of people round the bar just having a drink) and not helped by the fact that we were sat by a speaker also and music playing so I couldn’t hear my husband speaking at all. They did turn the music down for us when we asked, but not quite the right environment for a quiet couples dinner. Having said that, we have visited several times in the past and it’s always been quieter so hopefully this was just a one off and it won’t stop us visiting again.

I love this place. It’s a great menu and lovely atmosphere- feels like it’s getting better and has improved recently. Previously the portions were tiny to the point of verging on being out of order, and the silence/atmosphere was somewhat oppressive (but despite this I still liked it). However, recently it feels like there has been an injection - just having some light music in the background makes a huge difference (you were reduced to whispering previously). The food is fantastic and the wine is great too. Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it. It’s a gem. I would strongly encourage those who like genuinely good food to visit.

The Hare & Hounds is hidden away in the hamlet of Mill Brow. There is a large car park just up the road from the actual pub. There is an outside area next to the pub which is nice when the sun is shining. The premises were clean, inviting and well presented and the staff were very pleasant and professional. There were 2 real ales on offer from the Robinson's stable but the lagers were all high end and expensive. The food menu was limited with the emphasis on fine dining with main courses averaging around £20 e.g Stilton and Spiced Plum Pie, Caramelised Cabbage, Beans, Sweet Potato was £19. Sandwiches are served at lunchtimes but they are open and although cooked and presented to a high standard they were small offerings which only come with salad. Overall the food and drink is very expensive when compared to similar pubs in the area and the value for money was poor.

Had a meal recently with the family. The food was reasonable but over priced. For example a child’s pasta was £9 (way overpriced for a children’s pasta) and mains into the mid £18-£25 region. The pub has now been taken over by the Robinsons brewery and is no longer a freehouse pub. Would I go back. I think there’s better priced options in the local area for food.

Stopped in for a pint in the sun while walking nearby. Lovely spot on Mill Brow. There are a couple of benches out the front overlooking the peaceful greenery. We sat on the picnic tables they have to the side — it's more of a yard/disused car park than a beer garden per se but it's a beautiful sun trap. Looks like they might make more of it in the summer. Interior looked nice and popular for a Sunday roast; would probably come back to try the food sometime. Lovely if you're in the area.

This was not our first visit to this venue but it was the first time we'd invited friends on the strength that it had been faultless on our previous visits. There were 6 of us in our party (3 couples) and we booked our table for 6 o'clock. I'd circulated the online menu on our WhatsApp group and we were all looking forward to our choices. We arrived and were seated and given a menu that did not correspond with the menu online which wasn't really an issue as there were lots of tasty alternatives however the way in which that was communicated set the tone for the rest of the experience!! The waitresses were all well presented young ladies although their attitudes and manner seemed abrupt, rushed and flippant. My husband commented that they used to do amazing steaks whilst the rest of our party discussed the fact that the menu was not the same. One of the waitresses said, 'yeah we change the menu regularly and haven't updated it so if it's not on the menu, we don't do it!' We ordered drinks whilst we made our final decisions and placed our orders. We then received a very tasty 'appetizer' whilst we waited for our starters. Unfortunately as I was talking, I was delayed in finishing mine and felt rushed as the plates were cleared away before I had finished. Our starters arrived, (now as the room was so full clearly busy and cramming in as many people as possible), the waitress could not serve our meals correctly and instead asked us to pass the meals down the table which we did however this was not ideal. (Starters were fresh, hot and delicious). Whilst we ate these, we were asked by the waitresses at least twice, if we had finished when we clearly hadnt. Once finished, we passed all the plates up. The main courses arrived and they were passed down and we all tucked in however mine was tepid and I considered not saying anything as the room was full, I didn't want to cause a fuss in front of our friends however considering the price of the food, I was not prepared to not enjoy my food so I quietly got a waitress' attention and asked her to warm it up. Two other people also thought their food was not hot enough but were too embarrased to ask. My meal came back slightly warmer and although it wasn't perfect, it was more palatable. In my experience, if I've ever had to send anything back, it usually comes back with some more veg or more jus and an apology or an offer of a complementary drink or something as I'm the only one without a meal which consequently I ended up eating on my own and then feeling rushed. Again, we were asked if the plates could be taken or if we were still eating which clearly we were!! One of the men said 'can you come back in 5?' We were all beginning to feel it by now!! Once finished, plates were passed down and dessert menus were handed out. Unfortunately because of our experience so far, we decided to skip the desserts and coffee course because we did not want to be rushed anymore!! (We moved on to our local and finished our meal with coffees and deserts) So we asked for the bill, paid it, including tip and no sooner had we paid it, then a more senior member of staff came over and told us that they needed the table which we promptly vacated. Whilst we all enjoyed the menu, we were extremely disappointed by the experience. The following morning, I decided to call the venue and give them some feedback. Fortunately I spoke to the same lady who was on duty and had told us the need for the table. I explained to her in detail how we were made to feel whilst she made notes. She then asked if she could feed this back to her team and get back to me. I told her that I didn't feel the waitresses were to blame as I could see that they were under pressure to clear tables etc and it was clear they were under instruction and having spoken to the 'supervisor', I can see where the 'attitude' came from!! The supervisor said she would call me back. SIX hours later, she called me back and she advised me that she had fed that back to her team and all she could do was apologise and that if we went back, she would make sure we had a better experience.... I paused and waited for her to follow up with an offer of a complimentary drink or something or for her to ask for my details, to make a note of if we did return but nothing so I thanked her and hung up. A few minutes later, I was still not satisfied so I rang back and asked her to clarify what was the result of the feedback. Her response was, she'd apologised and would make sure if we returned, the 'experience' would be better. I asked her if she had my details and how would it be better and asked her if I had waited SIX hours for a half hearted apology without the offer of even a complimentary drink to which she replied, she was unable to do that!! At that point, I gave up trying to convince her that their customer service skills for a slightly above averagely priced establishment was not reflective and thanked and hung up!! I wanted to give them the opportunity to put it right without making a fuss in front of a full restaurant by addressing it the following day however, I'm convinced nothing will change so sadly, we will not be revisiting!! stood up and vacated. Whilst we all left saying that the food was lovely

My red pepper and Parmesan arancini with a Parmesan crisp were so tasty and I had a second starter of cheese and shallot pudding that was equally fantastic with contrasting textures of crispy onion and so many flavours included. We like Michelin star restaurants for special occasions and the chef here at Mill Brow is setting such a high standard for a pub restaurant. My husband had the treacle venison as a main. I saved myself by eating two starters so I could order the Mint Aero Brownie. The best dessert I have ever tasted. My only plea to Landlord Guy is bring back the H&H Burger. I rarely eat meat but always choose the H&H burger. The meat is superb quality.

Excellent food, nice cosy atmosphere with an open fire. This is not a standard Robinsons food pub, it has local fresh produce prepared by a good chef, with nice little extras. Staff are always polite and the best thing for us is that we can go somewhere for an excellent meal with our dog, as they welcome dogs and always ask if you want water for your dog. Since we moved to the area a couple of years ago it is our favourite place to eat out without leaving our furry friend home alone.

Relaxed gastro pub. Had a birthday evening meal. Food good though no vegan options. There was a friendly crowd watching World Cup final.

Visited here yesterday for first time on spec. Very good imaginatively prepared food, with complimentary appetizer to start. Nice, unpretentious, cosy ambience. Will be back when next in area.

Quite a regular here, along with my wife. It's a hidden treasure that you usually need to be told about otherwise you wouldn't know it's there. The food is fantastic, atmosphere great, service brilliant. Can't go wrong eating here!

We were late but they still cooked and served our party with food, we were treated to a complimentary taster of White Onion and Truffle soup which was so delicious we would have been so happy to give dined on this alone. Our main and pudding was faultless and all delivered by very polite and pleasant staff, we will definitely be returning for a repeat of the experience.

This pub is being run by a stand in manager/agency and I must say they are doing a great job with the food. 8 of us enjoyed a great meal at lunchtime on Friday. The food was good, the service excellent and we all had a great meal. The pub has been waiting for a tenant for a time. I truly wish the chap that has it would stay cos the food is really good. Who knows what the future holds but at the present time it's good.

The meals were delicious and filling. The decoration of the environment was very interesting. There was Himalayan salt on the ceiling and the walls on the other side were covered in salt.
