The Harbour Lodge in North Ayrshire

Got a delivery from here for a little treat for myself and my family we were rather shocked with the price for a start it’s definitely the dearest I’ve ever paid for the same meal our normal place we go was shut and we thought we would try here. The chicken curry tastes extremely fruity which in my opinion is just strange! I also asked for absolutely NO veg whatsoever in my curry and I got peas ? We were rather disappointed with the food and it definitely is a lot more expensive than nearby takeaways!

Wether it would be lunch or dinner, you can do no wrong with the harbour lodge. Their cream of chicken soup is to die for. Great service and lovely food.

Husband and i went with my granddaughter at lunch time last week.For a three course meal its only six pounds and its well worth every penny.I had chicken soup roll follewed by sweet and sour veg with fried rice then a coffee but you could have a sweet all for six pounds its fantastic.Well worth every penny getting a regular customer

My wife and I visited here for a lunch. Things started well with the starters, soup for me and spring rolls for my wife. My Thai chicken curry appeared to have a sweet chilli sauce with very few peppers and no sign of coconut milk or Thai paste. My wife's mixed satay was a disgrace. Had the meat been any thinner then the skewer would have shown out of the side. The beef was so tough that it was too difficult to free from the skewer. Oddly it was cheaper to order the food from the main menu than take it from the set meal menu. Matters not we wont be back

In huge need of decoration/renovation inside and out, paper table cloth was dirty and food not great, staff were polite but would not go again.

Recived our order tonight after waiting an hour and 15 mins. Plated out our chips, fried rice, noodles and curry sauce, not a hard meal to cook right? Sat down took my first bite, absolutely freezing cold and disgusting. Noodles absolutely brick solid, not cooked proplerly. Phoned to complain and got a disgusting attitude off the woman on the phone. Shocking way to speak to returning customers. Order from here regularly but sadly this will be my last. Horrible food, Shoking Customer Service !!!

Food is always good whether it’s a take away or sit in, my only problem is at how run down it is think that holds people back from having a sit in

Went here with my wife, sis and brother in law for a wee meal and found the food to be really tasty. The service was good although the place was quiet anyway but as always the staff are friendly. The portion sizes were big and none of us could finish our main courses. Will definitely be back. The only negative - the decking outside is getting a bit worn and could cause an accident if not maintained.

The kids (young kids) chipped in their pocket money for a take away for Fathers Day. Phoned in the order and was told it would be 30 mins. We live nearby so went to collect at the correct time to be told it was going to be another 30/40 minutes. There were 20 people in front of us in the queue in the same boat. Eventually got the food home and it was either the incorrect order or Chinese food I certainly have never came across before. Noodles grossly overcooked and separate from the so called Chow Mein. "Cubes" of chicken which I am sure was tofu as all rubbery and tasteless. Solid prawn crackers. Sweet and sour chicken was okay but the sauce needed a knife to slice it, just a tub of goo really. Fried rice greasy. Special Chow Mein had beef in it you could have soled your shoe with. 1 King prawn in the Special. Loads of peppers in everything. Now I may be incorrect here but never in all my years have I had red or green peppers in a chicken chow mein. I'm allergic so I would remember! My oldest wanted a side of chips with curry sauce. I tipped it onto a plate so we could all share and it was like a brick, we were unable to separate any of the chips and I kid you not that we had to slice it up with a bread knife, tasted okay oddly enough. I gave the kids their money back as they were upset and I paid it myself. I would never have them waste their pocket money in this rubbish. I called several times to complain but was unable to get through so gave up in the end. This place was recommended and was the first time I have tried them and it was definitely the last, never again. Oh, and it was cold. Eat hear at your peril. You have been warned.

Went into our local today after the Chinese holiday looking forward to the restaurant opening back up normally food is great as we have been going 4years plus ! The main meals were revolting the chips wer orange rock hard and burnt to a crisp as was the prawn toast so hard I nearly broke my tooth ☹️As for the chicken it was cubes of fu..noswhat squishy and disgusting really not impressed atoll sad to say we won’t be coming bk unless the food standards drastically changed to wat they used to be like think chef is taking the piss

Our favourite go to Chinese restaurant, excellent food, exceptional service & beautiful views over to Arran, Terry is the host with the most, treat yourself to a visit!

We had an evening meal here and found it to be excellent value for money, and pleasant place to dine in.

Needs a bit of TLC but best Chinese food in Ayrshire and the staff couldn't be any nicer. Would recommend

Every time you phone now its will be an hour for delivery. Maybe it will take less time soon as we will go elsewhere til everyone gets fed up waiting. Sorry it's good but not that good!

I use the Harbour Lodge at least twice a month for take away meals but have also dined in the restaurant on several occasions. The menu is a wide choice of Chinese and European meals all prepared to a very good standard. The staff are all friendly and the premises are nicely decorated and maintained.

A personal favourite of mine and my family. Great food and service. Reasonable prices from a wide range of Chinese cuisine. Carry out and delivery service too. Lunch is especially good value.

Ordered take away from here used to be really good. Was very long in coming so was lukewarm not a good start!!!! But somehow has changed it was not nice at all put it in bin waste of money .

this is a great place for lunch nice and clean quick service friendly staff who are happy to help and u can have a drink if u wish

Ordered takeaway and was always the best but meal was disgusting tonight and was in restaurant for lunch few weeks away and was same totally fell away n such a shame takeaway in bin and seriously need staff with a voice and u dont have to keep repeating yourself

we love the harbour lodge we even had my daughters wedding reception there and I agree Johnny Ho is a lovely host meals have always been great

Great place for a Chinese meal,excellent choice,super service.Nicely laid out and decorated restuarant,great value for money.

I live almost next door to the Harbour Lodge and have used them for many years for sit-in and takeaway. Our most recent visit was with 6 of us and 2 youngsters. The kids were well taken care of in proper seats and the meal was up to the normal excellent standard. Takeaways are generally more expensive than other Chinese outlets but the quality compensates for this.

I really enjoy eating at the harbour lodge as the food is fantastic. I'm not one for writing bad reviews but after receiving bad customer service several times I feel inclined to do so. Firstly, lunch is served until 1.45. When I arrived at 1.30 the young man that is always serving greeted us at door and whispered that they were closing. There was already people dining in the restaurant and I can only believe he couldn't be bothered with another customer after the time in which we arrived. However, don't advertise this time of you don't honour it. Secondly, after going in for a meal last night we were handed the larger menu and no set menu. At around £8 a meal is steep when u can get the same thing as a take-away for £6 and it's a larger portion. I have been here many times for dinner and there has always been a set menu and I can only presume he wanted to make more money from us. After enquiring after the set menu he preceded to go up to another table and tell them what our problem was which was downright rude (I'm sure the person in dining works their too as a waitress?) Finally, no matter when I am in I always find the waiter rude, unpleasant and never with a smile on his face. The same can't be said for Johnny Ho. When he comes front of house he is so pleasant and welcoming and even stopped my mum in work one day to ask if we enjoyed our dinner the night before however his front of house waiter lets his lovely restaurant down.

Great Chinese restaurant on Ardrossan sea front. Have used in over many years and never been disappointed. reasonable prices

Birthday meal. Wonderful service throughout, water jugs regularly refreshed and special attention for the yougest (7year old) in the group. One starter was not quite what we expected but OK nervertheless - the duck starter although for one could have easliy been for 2/3 people. The food was delicious and very good value.(we paid £163 and had loads of booze and soft drinks as well as 2 couses for 10 people) Have seen others complain that decor is dated and yes it has a very retro feel but clean - the value for money and service more than compensated for dated wallpaper!

The Harbour Lodge or (Johnny Ho) as it is locally known gave my wife and I, one of the best set menu meal for many years.Salted ribs, spring rolls followed by stir fried seasonal vegtableswith pak choi greens, beef and peppers in black bean sauce, served with special fried rice. Chicken in chilli sauce, noodles and Chicken in batter in a sweet n sour sauce. chinese tea followed by banana fritters or ice creams. Truly first class cooking personal from Johnny. Good luck unitl the next time.

We were heading to the Apollo picture hall in Saltcoats for a movie night and decided to stop of first the the Harbour Lodge on the shore front at Ardrossan for a meal as we used this place many times several years back and looked to try some old favourites and can only say how how disappointed I was from the off,firstly the place was very shabby and from decor to large holes in the radiator window displays and badly marked wooden floors let the place down on appearance. The meal itself was poor also from the Cantonese shredded chicken which was served in a hard noodle basket meaning half the sauce was stuck to the noodle basket while the remaining sauce poured through onto shredded iceberg lettuce (a disaster of a meal and presentation )The other dish was a sweet and sour chicken balls in sauce ,6 small chicken balls for the price was a disgrace and very little sauce again with the dish,overall I can honestly say I thought the place was badly run down and poor quality of food will make sure we will not return..such a pity as this place used to be lovely and a real quality establishment. My apologies to the owner but my review and comments are not a pleasure to leave as this was a place I used to look so forward to eating in at as well as takeaways.

I have tried most of the Chinese restaurants in this area and I cannot compare any of them to the harbour lodge. The food is delicious and the restaurant is lovely inside. Unlike some of the competition. I would recommend it as the first choice for Chinese.

Good food at a reasonable price, would have loved another drink with my meal though, but was never approached again to be asked.. eventually managed to get the bill (had been tempted to try and rugby tackle her to the ground or maybe set myself on fire so she would notice me) all in all enjoyed the food, and would go back again.

Always get a takeaway from here when visiting family in Scotland. We wanted to eat in the restaurant this time but decided to carry out instead. Staff could be a bit friendlier but food is always top notch. Freshly cooked, never greasy and excellent portions. Prices are very good too.The location is perfect when the weather is nice as the views are lovely. Come on guys give this place a revamp and it would be one of the best places to eat in the area.

We have been coming to Johnny's for many years and have had several large family gatherings over this time, the food is excellent and my favourite that isn't on the menu but can be booked in advance is Beef Ho Fun. Having had this in several London establishments Johnny's is still better. My 7 year old grand daughter loves this place and when given the choice will always pick The Harbour Lodge.

The restaurant needs redecorating the food is not bad but it is always the same menu. The staff are not the friendliest and sometimes the service can be slow when the restaurant is busy. We have been many times to this restaurant but because the menu doesn't change we only go about once every couple of months.

When I walked in I was a bit dubious as the décor is a little shabby and the service was a bit sporadic with different waiters and waitresses running around like they were on fire. But.........If you look past this then you will see that this is a GEM of a restaurant, the food was very good and the portion was just perfect. When the bill came I was left very pleased as it did not sting my pocket. Highly recommend this Chinese and will defo be back soon

I have eaten in the Harbour lodge a load of times but my review relates to my most recent visit. The harbour lodge is a chinese restaurant with bar lounge and rooms. The food has always been good and they offer cheap fast lunches that could solve the worlds hunger problems... however... the hotel it's self is sadly lacking. We (a group of girls) met here for our annual Harbour Lodge dinner - It's a good sized restaurant and has always been a regular choice for our get together. As usual the service was efficient and the food was good. We all had starters and main courses from the chinese menu - My spring rolls and hot and sour chicken were tasty to say the least. However, the plates for both courses were chipped. My cutlery was miss-matched (i know that sounds petty but come on) and the plastic paper table cloth was ripped and stained at my corner. The plates and crockery in general is very old and dated and never matches. Chips on plates and bowls is the norm - and water marks on cutlery etc just puts me off. The drinks, both soft drinks and bar drinks, are warm. They are served either in cats or from 2ltr bottles and the ice in the glass just disappears into water within a few minutes. i can forgive these guys these little errors when we are in for the set lunch - but this was a la cart dining on a Friday night at around £15 a head.... so i really expected some long over due improvements. The toilets are actually a joke. Badly over due a fix up. Toilet seat hanging off. Cracked mirror. Bins over flowing. The restaurant it's self is over due a overhaul - carpets frayed. Furniture mismatched and the lounge upholstery had stains and holes in it. These guys do takeaway and delivery... I would stick to that in future because it is not a nice place to go. I understand that restaurant cash flow can be up and down and they may not be in a position to redecorate as often as they like... but this place has been on the decline for years and is now and my eyes a dump!Don't get me wrong.... still a good meal!!!

This is a lovely restaurant, with a nice atmosphere. The menu is good and has plenty of choice. The staff are polite and friendly. The food is fantastic and good portion sizes. Had a fantastic time.

Food always very good. Owner is a very friendly person and is keen to please. Great location on the shore front. Space to stay on for a drink after the meal.

Having eaten out of here numerous times, the food is excellent and never fails. Especially, the 3 course special between 12 and 2pm.

I have visited this restaurant and bar on many occasions both for sit-in and take away. My family and I have never been disappointed, the food is great, the service is friendly. My daughter is a very picky eater and the staff/kitchen go out their way to make her happy. The lunch menu is great value with lots of choice and large portion sizes. The seaviews are lovely. This is our local chinese and we love it!

This Chinese restaurant / lounge/ lodge is the best you will find anywhere. The owner is very friendly, polite and professional. The food is amazing, and the prices are great ! The cleanliness is second to none ! The lounge is very relaxing, and the atmosphere is informal, beautiful views from a great seafront location. Lunches are great value, as are dinners, and the food is consistently the best I have found anywhere. The staff are hard working, polite and very helpful.
