Nice traditional curries on the main menu plus a fast and inexpensive lunch menu and good Sunday buffet. Surrounding are basic, probably not the place for a romantic meal.

Got there and despite booking, they didn’t seem to be aware of this. Once seated we ordered drinks, one of which was the wrong one. Glasses were visibly dirty. Tray holding the poppadoms was also visibly dirty, the paper lining a poor attempt at covering this. Starters (lamb tikka and Sheek kebab) were both very dry. Others around us also had this same complaint. Saw 2 mice climbing out of the wall and scuttling around tables near the window- completely unacceptable. Staff were alerted and seemed to do nothing to deal with it, except from subtly cover the area with a trolley. Finally, the member of staff who took payment still asked for an additional service charge. On a more positive note, the young chap who had started just 1 week ago was more than helpful, getting us extra drinks and water.

I ordered a takeaway and the food was FULL of oil. Most disappointing. Goan curries are not oily. I know this from years of eating traditional, Goan food. I ordered the chicken cafreal and bombay aloo and couldn’t believe how tasteless and bland both dishes were. I really had high hopes for this place but the food was simply not authentic. To make matters worse, when I got home the oil from the dishes had leaked all over the bag. I appreciate this may have been a bad batch but due to this poor experience I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant at all unfortunately. The best thing was the rice and poppadum with mango chutney!

The premises for this restaurant are a little unconventional and rather 'industrial' in feel. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and found us a table overlooking the river. The food arrived promptly and was very pleasant and felt like good value.

I live in Brentford and have used this restaurant on several occasions over many years. I am therefore sad to have to be critical about my experience of dining there. It is usually a fine to go and, to provide a totally honest review, the food we had was fine. Fairly standard fare. So, why the poor review? A few reasons. We booked so it was no surprise to the restaurant that we would be arriving at 8.00 pm which we did. There were plenty of empty tables and I asked if we could have a particular table beside the window which was near to other diners. The waiter said no because it was not clean. We were offered another table by a window a bit out of the way. We were then told we could have the original table as it had been cleaned now. Why not just offer the table. It was available? Moving on, we ordered wine, popadoms, and dips which arrived fairly promptly. Soon after, we were asked if we wanted to order. We asked for a little time. We had just started eating the popadoms. The waiter then said that the kitchen closes at 9.00 pm so we should order. Now, this is a Saturday night in a London restaurant. It was about 8.15 to 20 pm. They took our booking for 8.00 pm so knew they would have customers at that time. What Indian restaurant on a Saturday evening shuts its kitchens at 9.00 pm? None in my experience particularly one that also takes orders and home delivers. So, we ordered our main course. As we were ordering, I asked my wife if she would like anything else from the menu. The waiter said: 'that's enough' and whipped the menus away. A particularly rude thing to do. Clearly, he didn't want us to order much food. Our main courses arrived fairly quickly. They were piping hot (temperature not ingredients). I think some of the food saw the inside of a microwave as it was almost artificially hot. As we were eating, we noticed that they were closing the bar down at around 9.00 pm. There is a large bar that the restaurant uses on the premises. Soon after this, they started to shut down the restaurant - cleaning, clearing, clanking about the place, turning off lights. they were essentially locking up. There were other people in the restaurant but not many. When we had finished our main course, the waiter was on us pronto clearing up. No offer of a dessert menu - which was on the original menus that were whipped away as we finished our popadoms. They definitely wanted customers out by 9.15 to 9.30 pm. There were two waiters. One doing his job, very nice, the other, who took our order is the boss I think was rude. He was certainly trying to hurry us out. So, we were out of there by about 9.20 pm. All in all, by the time we were seated and had our first part of the meal, we had about under an hour there. It was an unpleasant and rushed experience. Such a pity as the food was fine and one of the waiters was also fine. So, if you want to go out and have a nice pleasant unrushed meal with anyone, this is not the place for you. This place closes by 9.30 pm on a Saturday by my experience as it had closed by that time when we were there. They had no interest in customer service at all. Even if the food was brilliant, a restaurant still has to care about the customer experience. My advice is to go somewhere else. There are plenty of good Indian and other restaurants in Brentford - which is a great borough by the way. I have lived in Brentford for over 24 years and, as mentioned, used this restaurant before. What a disappointment then to find it has gone downhill like this. We will not be going back. We shall take our customer elsewhere.

We found this place as we were staying close by. Reservations are not always necessary. The atmosphere was casual and it had a great menu for adults and a smaller menu for kids. The kids menu is usually only available at lunchtime but they were kind enough to make something for my 7 year old. Food was amazing… we ate there twice in 3 days! Great prices and service.

Went here for a light lunch, but actually portions were generous. We had a set lunch which between the two of us came to just £13.50. The foods tasted freshly cooked and arrived much faster than I had expected. While we waited we watched the birds on the opposite riverbank, and this particular day there was a lot of activity on the river itself, periodically a group of people standing on surf boards would glide by, some dressed in superhero costumes. Really made me wish I had a decent camera on my phone! After hanging about for a while, we enjoyed a hot chocolate, which was delicious. This is my second visit, but first time of eating. The first visit I watched a show in the small theatre. This time I visited the exhibition space, the displays were thought provoking and we left discussing the various displays - always a good sign, if it doesn't lead to a discussion, it probably didn't make you stop and think.Only downside to this visit was the temperature of the water in the Ladies, depending on which sink you used, you either got pleasantly warm, or scoldingly hot!Definitely will be going back. Parking was nice and simple, it was a little chilly and too windy to sit outside, but on a warmer day, this would be ideal.

I thought long and hard in sharing this hidden gem with everyone as I want to keep it all to myself!! It’s a council run site with this basic seating restaurant alongside the theatre and cinema but you can book a table overlooking the river. I love it.Have come here three times in the past couple of weeks. Why? Because the food is like home cooked food. Hot and delicious and plentiful. It’s not spicy because I think it’s geared to the clientele but I find it tasty.I’ve had many of the dishes but always choose the pakoras as a starter with the green chutney. The peas keema is good as is the Tarka daal. Yesterday I had the chicken saag which I enjoyed.I hope this place continues to thrive for a very long time.

We have wanted to try this restaurant for some time as it is in a wonderful location with fantastic Thames views. A visit to a late afternoon film promoted a visit afterwards. Wonderful river views, but slow, unsmiling, uncommunicative service with mediocre tasting curries. I had the Goal fish curry. It tasted ok, but being one of my favourites I have to say I make a better one myself. My husband had a very sickly tasting chicken tikka masala. He ate it iI would have leftbit. This restaurant needs to up its game. It should be a gold mine with its location but unfortunately it is lacklustre and uninspiring.

Negatively the service was slow despite few diners when we arrived, and the main waiter was polite but not very smiley or welcoming. I ate at The Guru last night after watching a film at Waterman's cinema with a friend. We ordered lamb badam passanda and Chicken rogan josh, dhal and pilau rice. It was pretty obvious before we started to eat that the sauces the lamb and chicken were in were exactly the same, an orange-red gloop, with no discernable tomatoes, peppers in fact anything apart from the gloop. The rice was too soft and the dahl simply wasn't that lovely spicy dhal that I've had in other restaurants. The portions were, however, generous.

Rudest waiters I have ever encountered!!!! Booked a table for ten so we could have a meal before watching a film. Booked the table for 7 - the film was at 8.45 so we assumed we had plenty of time. Had to ask three times before anyone came to take an order. Then the waitress who came (after we'd been there over half an hour!) could only take an order for drinks and poppadoms. I said excuse me twice to two different waiters who dismissed me rudely with a hand gesture and carried on walking! At that point I complained. We did then get our order taken. But the food was a dreadful disappointment when it came. We all ordered different dishes but most of them looked identical: meat in a red sauce. Some people in our group left most of their food. I ate mine: it was distinctly average. It was supposed to be butter chicken which is usually my favourite curry but it just tasted like chicken chunks in the kind of cook in sauce you could buy in Tesco. It took ages to get our bill too - I had to ask three times - and we only just got our seats in the cinema as the film was starting. If you want a curry in Brentford, try Sam's Spice just down the road from The Guru. Far better food and the waiters are delightful!

What a disappointment, worst food and service I have ever encountered. It's a brilliant idea a curry house in the cinema / theatre but falls flat on its face because of the food and service.A non smiling menacing looking waiter showed us to our seat, and that was the end of any pretence at hospitality. Bhaji's were Luke warm and fell apart, obviously been cooked for ages and then warmed up. Chutneys were like water.Waiter took away empty plates but asked us to keep our cutlery, we refused. He then bought our main meal. Rice on a plastic plate, and chicken tikka masala and gobi aloo in what can only be described as pudding bowls! Slop in a bowl is a pretty good description. We sent one back as it was not even warm and refused to pay for it.Place is generally dirty looking, dated, and unfriendly, with very poor quality food. Never going back!!

My boyfriend and I ate at Guru Tandoori at the Waterman Arts Centre before a film last night. We had planned to go somewhere else but time didn't permit so we did a quick survey of the so called restaurant area, and open cafeteria style kitchen. It didn't look good with laminated photographs of popular dishes etc, but we felt that we shouldn't judge a book by it's cover and the menu looked ok, although expensive, with a few Goan specialities which we were optimistic about. We ordered a Goan chicken dish, a king prawn patya and three vegetable dishes. When they arrived they all looked the same shade of brown slop and tasted like Keen's curry powder! The prawns were like rubber, the chicken was completely dry, the brinjal wasn't cooked. The sag paneer was disgusting and was obviously fished out of a sag aloo as it had bits of potato in it. It was beyond disappointing and the sulky exhausted looking waiters seemed to be embarrassed because of it. I do not think I have had a worse meal. When the £45 bill came we felt violated. We live locally and are very committed to patronising local businesses but this was insulting. If you find yourself in Brentford and feel like an Indian meal try Sami's Spice on the High Street. The quality of the food is 100% better at half the price and it's BYO.

We went to the restaurant after a visit to Kew gardens, and in celebration of my mother's birthday. We remembered this restaurant from over a decade back, when my sister used to do dance performances in the adjoined theatre. The venue itself is odd. It enjoys a prime location overseeing the Thames, however the interior is horrible. It is a dated purple colour with exposed piping, paint falling off everywhere and mould enjoying a growth spurt above us. It is very open and integrated into the cinema area, which seems ridiculous. The serving area for the food looks like a school lunch area, so cheap and tacky. One of the worst decors I've come across in any restaurant (2/10 for decor). The food was bad. There are only 2 dishes that prevented this review from being a 1/5. The chilli chicken was good (9/10) flavoured well and with soft chicken. The butter chicken was also average (7/10). Every other dish was very poor. The paper was flavourless, the lamb and chicken starters in the mixed grill were overcooked, as was the onion bhaji, the daal was not tarka daal but a cheaper alternative, the rogan josh had a layer of ketchup on it and the quality of the meat was extremely poor, the spinach was old and covered in too much oil. It was horrible, one of the worst Indians I've had in my life. The food overall (3/10)And the pleasure of this horrible food- £90 for 5. I wouldn't come back here, even if the views are fantastic.

I attended a 90th birthday meal here with a group of about twenty five people. The food when it came was reasonably good. Unfortunately it was nearly an hour in coming by which time the young (great-grand) children in the group - who were served last - were getting fractious. The abrupt end of the meal was also rather startling in that one of the staff said "we need your table". We imagined it was a joke until they removed it! They then returned for the chairs leaving 4 guests standing! I suppose the conclusion is food not bad, customer relations abysmal.

The Guru Tandoori does a very good lunchtime menu for £3.99 which I have, and my favourite are the wraps. I go to the Watermans for the ambiance - it overlooks the river, the staff are very friendly and remember my name and the food is very good and cheap. The parking is free as is use of the internet - both impossible to find these days. I should begin by stating that we visited this restaurant on a voucher deal which included both cinema tickets and a meal, so we were probably not having a typical dining experience. Notwithstanding that, we had a pleasant bite to eat before going in to see out film, in a restaurant with a lovely view of the Thames. Our arrival, however, was somewhat inauspicious. Prominent notices indicated that those on the meal deal had to fetch their own drinks from the bar - fair enough, I suppose, as we were being "cheapskates", but it did make us feel slightly like second-class citizens as other diners had their drinks brought to them. However, thinks looked up from there. The service was prompt, which is particularly welcome on a pre-film package. Our offer included the choice of a chicken or a vegetable thali, and we both opted for chicken. The thali included a good selection of different offerings with various flavours, and although it looked quite small on the plate, it was in fact quite filling. All in all a pleasant pre-cinema meal. We had a little time to kill after we finished, so we went and sat out on the terrace with our drinks, watching the river flow by and a heron fish for food!
