The Grove Bar & Restaurant in Birmingham

My experience of the Grove especially on my last visit left alot to be desired, surely it cannot just be about making money as that is the after taste it left me with. Thumbs down for customer service which is next to none! It's sad that those in business think little of asking if consumers enjoy their meals or even the bar staff just extending their hand continuously for payment whilst head is turned in a opposite direction, not to mention staff leaning over & clearing plates and cutlery off the table while the customer is trying to fill take home containers?? Why can't they just wait!! On a better note I do enjoy the food. Place could do with a revamp. Customer service is so important hope this gets taken on board.

Lost its touch food was a bit greasy, value for money ....... just on slight of expensive side ,

The place is right in the centre of city. A good place to be if you want to have some starters with beer and other drinks. The biggest problem with the place is it's main course which is just average. I ate chicken 49, tandoori fish tikka and chicken tikka biryani. The ambience is very below average. A lot of noise with tables very close to each other.

Best mix grill ive had always good. The tall man behind the counter isnt very nice. They got my order wrong and showed him and he was arguing with me and didnt want to change it. Took some doing before he did. Thats not nice of him when its the chef fault.

Best curry in the whole of Birmingham and the grill is next level 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 highly recommend! Definitely won't be disappointed

Lovely spicy chicken wings for a great prices.

Today I went to dine in at this place. Very bad experience their customer service is bad seems to me they don’t care. I ordered veg mix grill there was only two small pieces of paneer not good and food was cold they also me very small portions of sauces. On masala chips too much chat masala and salt.soho cottage is much better place than this

I placed order after long time, but the food tastes disappointed me,, butter chicken and paneer makhni was tasting like tomatos curry rather than butter tastes,, I always liked their food but not this time,, not good experience

I was a guest. Blown away by this place. We all had the famous mixed grill. Great food and atmosphere, finished off by a rare Irish whiskey.

Really tasty curry. People didn't enjoy the fish pakoras but the wraps and naan and curry and mix grill were good. Drinks were affordable.

Expensive but worth it, lovely high quality food, the 32 pound mixed grill was amazing and love the vegetable noodles 🍜 lovely time with family........................ Loved the Chicken 🐔 wings. Portions are large and staff are friendly and helpful and very polite.......

I recently visited The Grove Bar & Restaurant and had an absolutely fantastic experience! The Mix Grill was a highlight, featuring delicious Chicken Tikka, succulent Seekh Kebabs, perfectly seasoned Lamb Chops, and flavorful Wings. Every bite was a delight! Additionally, the noodles and Chilli Chicken were exceptional, adding a wonderful variety to the meal. The flavors were spot on, and everything was cooked to perfection. To top it all off, I enjoyed an ice-cold Coke from the bar, which was the perfect refreshment to accompany such a delicious meal. The Grove Bar & Restaurant has truly nailed it with their menu and service. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great dining experience!

One of the better places for a local mixed Grill

I'm a regular at the Grove Pub in Birmingham, and it never disappoints. The food is consistently good with nice-sized portions and decent pricing. There's plenty of parking space, which is really convenient. Overall, I can't complain, its a good desi pub in the West Midlands

Very extensive menu with huge variety of dishes all freshly cooked. Wide selection of beers and lagers to suit all tastes.

Great food and good portion sizes Edit: Came again after four years as a group of 8. Still just as great. Had the mixed grill, both meat and veg options, followed by both meat and veg curries. Everything i tried tasted amazing and would totally recommend a visit.

The Grove bar and restaurant never fails , it's a low keep vibe, the food is always delicious. Great comfortable atmosphere when you are by yourself or with a party of friend.

Ok for a casual day out. Wouldn't take someone on a formal date. No intimate tables all for groups.

Left my tobacco tin there at about 5.15pm by mistake if course. Rang to see if it had been handed in. One person that I spoke to who was supposed to be able to had was incredibly rude and had the worst telephone manners. Primordial. He also hung up on me when I commented on his awful manners and rubbish customer service. I still don't know whether my tin has been handed in and can't be bothered to forgo the rudeness of staff at this pub. Not an especially enjoyable encounter overall.

Good Indian pub with good beer CZECH beer

What a place! A nice, clean, friendly pub with big screens showing sport and a good selection of drinks. And then the food... absolutely top-tier currys! The mixed grill is a fantastic portion and incredibly tasty too. Overall, this place was a brilliant, relaxed evening. We will definitely be coming back.

Without doubt the best curry house in the Midlands. I happy travel back here every time and cannot recommend the mixed grill enough. Superb.

A family favourite- meat and veg mixed grill, simple pub restaurant with amazing fresh food. Lots of sports on TVs and casual atmosphere.

Awful experience, food was undercooked and the korma looked like a bowl of thick milk..definitely not child friendly...and you should be prepared for the bar man to serve you with a frown and to slam your drink down on the table.

Nans are hell of expensive....and too much colour in their curries...

Always enjoy my food here. We had a chicken korma with fried rice & cheesy naan as well as the groves special mixed grill & chips.

Excellent food. Been there multiple times. Love the fish curry. Plenty of parking space. Prices have gone up everywhere and this place is no different.

Great food. Staff are lovely, building is no frills, food is always fresh, hot, delicious & flavoursome. Portions are a good size & presented well. This establishment is partaking in the 'Eat out to help out' initiative during August so its an absolute bargain. The mixed grill is a must & the naan is light and fluffy. The balti is my go to sauce here as the flavour is on point. Tables are quickly cleaned & the waiting time for food has never been a problem. Sitting waiting for food while piping hot, smoking grills waft past you is a killer, thankfully that's not the case. There's usually some sport on one of the many screens & pool tables up by the bar area. I dont have any criticism just a suggestion, maybe add a selection of ice cream (we grab a mcflurry on our way home, as its convenient & cheap, but would gladly give The Grove our money instead)

My first visit to this place it was clean and the staff were polite. I doubt it will be the last the food was plentiful and very nice

Food was beautiful best curry I've ever eaten (Lamb special rogan Ghost) Staff friendly. Portion sizes are huge! I will definitely return and it's Quite busy which is always a good sign. Would be nice to have a option for smaller rice portion sizes as in my group we wasted alot of the rice which I hate waste! Mixed grill was huge we had the 15pound one and we couldn't finish it. Only down side is the Toilets they were disgusting 🤢, that was the only let down.

Food was just fine not great Indian Food. Atmosphere was good and ample space. There is self service here.

This is a great pub with great food and a good selection of meals/currys to choose from. The lamb curry was simply perfect, done properly and with the right balance of spices and flavours. The fish pakora is the best I've tasted in any pub so far. The service is decent and the atmosphere is of a typical pub with lots of screens. Keep in mind that the food will all be prepared together so once they call you to collect your food you'll have all of it (starters and main course) in one go, so if you want to take it slow, just let them know in advance.

The food is always fresh and tasty, the mixed grill always comes sizzling to the table only tiny winsey negative comment is a little petty, is that the mixed grill doesn't have enough pieces of lamb chops, basically only 3 chops and too much chicken. Apart from that minor negative comment everything is great can't fault the place. Maybe it's me being greedy! Lol 🤣

A very friendly pub While it might seem basic inside the food is anything but basic, great tasting food.

Recommended to me by my Colleague, we ended visiting two nights in successsion, when working for the University. The second night to drink rather than eat, as we still were eating leftovers from the night before .. Good atmosphere for a week night, large venue, clean with well kept beer, which was cheap by comparison. Competitive prices for beer & food, compared to many restaurants in Manchester. Food was faultless, hot, well prepared & tasty. You order at the kitchen & the pager alerts to when your food is ready. They have boxes & bags for you to pack your leftovers & as the portions are big, you'll be taking food home. This system works really well & on the whole - given the prices are very reasonable for food & drink - I'd say this is a top place to eat - offering value for money & great food in a lively setting. Loads of locals of Asian heritage eating here, that's when you know it's good! Going back next week & looking forward to it ..

The food seems to be hit and miss in my opinion.I had the mixed grill butter chicken and special rice.The kebabs and chops were clearly reheated and not fresh.The thigh and wings were ok.Butter chicken and rice were ok.I have had better there which is why I was disappointed.

A family pub with an authentic Indian grill, suitable for vegetarians with classic flavours and excellent value for money.

Probably the best Punjabi Grill Pub in the whole of Birmingham. Excellent food, most reasonable prices, good service, good choices at the bar, lot of TVs with sports on it. It is decent enough that there were many families in the pub. There is onsite parking, but limited spaces. The décor is basic but highly functional. The atmosphere is that of a pub than a restaurant, but they call themselves Bar & Restaurant. So it's absolutely fine. We keep going back to this place many times and always come out pleased with the food and time spent there. Probably one of top 3 places in our favourites list.

Still one of the best Desi pubs I've been to and I keep returning. The coriander chutney is the best around.

Vege mixy was nice, along with the chips, noodles and naan bread.

Eaten in and had take-aways for years here. Always tasty food. The mixed grill is great, plentiful and good value. But the curries are now £10 for a container take-away and expensive. Just a point, the chef that served me had handled food on a previous order, used the till and then took cash for my order - no hands-washing in between.

Really lovely food! I had a Regular Mixed Grill and a Peshawari naan bread. It was HUGE! I enjoyed it and even took loads of it home!

Nice place for eat-in n take away lunch and dinner. They serve both veg n non veg. ( so not place for pure veg) otherwise good quality food, staff is nice n friendly, multiple screens to watch matches, free car park. Accessable by bus route 11 , 54 and 7 stops are right outside the restaurant which connects to birmingham city center, perry bar one stop.

Beautiful food and plenty of it for the price. Reasonable drinks and a great atmosphere. Pool table and plenty of TVs. I always come here when I’m in town!

My friend previously ordered chips takeaway from this place and they used disgusting old oil and I had diarrhoea for weeks after eating those chips. I think they mix the chip oil with other foods and don’t use fresh oil. I went today in daytime without realising it was same place. My opinion is that this is a place for having cheap large portion size of drinks and food catch-up with friends on a budget. There is also lots of parking. The food here is large in portion size. The cost of food is cheap for the portion size so you get more for your buck. However the taste of food is average and quality of food varies depending on who is staffing the kitchen. Food wise there is nothing to boast about! Don’t expect perfect food. Its not high quality cooking. I had paneer naan wrap. Naan was over burnt for me but it was cheap. Hygiene could be improved - my fork had a coriander leaf on it from someone else so they did not wash it properly. I had lemonade from tap. Tasted diluted. They don’t show you to your seat and give you a remote for you to go and collect the food yourself. That threw me a little to not have table service. You pay to sit in a large building, TVs everywhere to watch footie matches. To improve staff need some smiling training and they need to find a good maintenance person- toilet sinks were blocked. Easy things to correct would be staff friendliness and maintenance. Also I hate places that don’t serve Heinz ketchup. This place uses some cheap ketchup which they could change. Hygiene of forks and knives is lacking and food quality is lacking. I feel another bout of diarrhoea already on its way.

The food is nice but they DON'T Like kids be aware, they will take your food from table without asking and make you leave, and very rude staff. Lots of DRUNK people shouting, but when you bring kids they dont like it. Its more like drunk people restaurant. Bad bad bad.

My favourite mixed grill place in Bham. There's an extensive number of vegetarian (soya, paneer etc.) things so pretty much everyone will find something lovely to eat. I wholeheartedly recommend the vegetarian mix grill platters

Was disappointed. Ordered a vegetarian mixed grill on the phone and received a non vegetarian mixed grill with meat in it. We had to drive back to get a vegetarian one. We managed to get our food but it was quite an annoying experience.
