The food was nice but the service was abysmal also the beer on draft was as flat as my ex’s chest and the silicone scousers from Rainhill in the booth next to us had more plastic between them than Baywatch

Family gathering of 20 after our fathers funeral, opted for the hot buffet of hotpot with crusty bread, pickles, beetroot and red cabbage, we were crammed into a small room were we could not move, the hot pot was one approx 12” x 18” tray with what I would describe as a load of frozen veg potatoes and meat covered in a watery gravy, I was charged £199 for this, rip off without a doubt and even if they had charged me £50 it would have been too much. Also staff were not too helpful either. My family all commented on how bad it was which left me feeling embarrassed as I had booked it. I most definitely will not recommend the griffin to anyone.

On first appearance of The Griffin Inn, I wasn't hopeful! However, once we'd settled into our rooms and found somewhere and something to drink and eat, it turned out to be a very pleasant stop. Young, friendly staff looked after us very well and although the food wasn't terribly exciting, it was good! Very helpful staff and we were well looked after.

A feat in itself as we were a party of 31 dining on one of the busiest Fridays of the year. Upon arriving the bar area was full due to a football match on T V . However, we soon had a drink then were escorted to the dining area to our allocated table.Although the area was relatively small there was plenty of space between each table which made it relaxing. The waitress named Michelle soon arrived with the menu and helped us to choose our meal, it did take about 20 minutes for it to arrive but was worth it. We only had the nain course because they were generous, well cooked and tasty. We enjoyed everything about the place and the staff were very helpful.. not too expensive. Would revisit. Was a little noisy

The Griffin is a place where you can eat really good food, and expect fantastic service. When most other places now have poor bar service and untrained staff the Griffin is excellent. I lost count of the number of times the attentive staff asked if I needed anything. At the bar, at the table, the service was excellent. The food was if anything better, the Lamb was about the best I've seen, it looked beautiful.

After visit here on a previous visit when the meal was outstanding we visited here on the 14th April for a 40th Birthday where the majority of the party was very disappointed. Firstly we were told that the soup of the day was broccoli and stilton when pre booking a week before only to be served tomato soup which some of the party couldnt eat due to not liking tomato soup. The steaks that were ordered medium to well done were served very well done. The sirloin steak which was ordered medium was served very well done. The eggs on the mixed grill were very well done and seemed to be kept warm for some time. When 2 of the startes were served 2 of the paty were mis advised on what they were being served and where given the wrong starter. One of the party had to wait 10 mins after everbody had their main meal due to their meal not being prepared due to lack of communication. The chips on all meals were under cooked. The sticky toffee puddings were advertised as having the ice cream but when the waiter served them he was unaware that ice cream was being served he then brought out the ice cream after the puddings were consumed.

Well we're do I start? Family of 19 booked in at half 6 including adults small children and teenagers. Considering we were asked to book all three courses from a set menu only at 19.95 per head and children's at 6.00 per head we gave them the choices 3 days before and it was 7.55 pm before starters were brought out! They even got them wrong some people weren't having starters so give them their due they did knock off 3.00 per head however, the main courses came out at 8.55pm again they were wrong steaks not cooked to how people asked for and the peppercorn sauce should have really been on the side.. was all over the steak desserts especially the cheesecake was obv just rustled up as the base was still warm and the filling hadn't set! Asked for different desserts they were just as bad! When we walked In a round of drinks was purchased around 22.00 paid for by cash yet they put this on the bill after making them aware that they were already paid for! We left the restaurant at around 10.00 pm. My opinion is that they cannot cope with large parties and check your bill! Seeing as though these were the only two menus on all day, and having 3 days notice of menu choice I have to admit was extremely disappointed

I personally would drop the price of the salad and add less cheese beacause I had to give some to my husband and daughter otherwise would be wasted. My daughter had a child meal, sausages and mash, she didn't eat the mash, it was very bland, like the middle of a jacket potato.Saying that I love visiting this place.

Colin and his staff run this place really well and locals and visitors alike are given a warm welcome. I have to say that I am puzzled as to why it hasn't got a full 5 star rating but perhaps this can be explained by the fact that it seems to have three entries... one for the pub, one for the restaurant and one for the hotel.!!! After writing a review at the end of May about a fantastic lunch time experience I must update it . We visited tonight for a family birthday . We booked at table for 5pm as we had young children with us . At 5.30 our table still wasn't ready as their was still people sat at it . After complaining the girl went over and asked them to move into the car as there was people waiting . This should of been done much earlier . At 5.45 the table still wasn't ready to sit on we found ourselves a table and the girl agreed we could sit there . But a group of girls that hadn't booked sat them selves there and nothing was said . So after complaint again they were asked to move ! They got the kids meal completely wrong so had to waiting ages for that . The main meals weren't worth the wait! The Sunday roast was so over cooked you couldn't get a knife through it .the only plus was the bar man was fantastic . Very efficient . Unfortunately I can't say the same about The girl running the restaurant .

As someone who has dined at the Griffin many times over the years I always look forward to going, so I was pleased when myself and my friends chose to dine there for a belated Xmas catch up, I had heard that there was a new Manager and also a new Head Chef from some friends who had dined over the Xmas period and they raved over the changes that had been made, when we arrived we were greeted by a very polite gentleman called jack who is apparently yet another new member of the team (assistant Manager) he showed us through to the restaurant and took our drinks order and gave us the menus, are drinks arrived promptly and we were asked if we had decided what we would like or would we like a little longer to decide, we all needed a little extra time as the menu was packed with so many delights, I decided on the Hot Cheese board as my starter, something ice never seen before and god knows why as it was amazing, cooked beautifully and presented as if it should be hung in a gallery not served to a table, for my main I chose the confit of belly pork with roasted tomato garlic and chilli jam, once again the taste and presentation was out of this world, to finish even though I was already stuffed I chose the ice cream trio, now to many people ice cream is just thrown in a bowl and enjoyed quite simple, but not from this kitchen, if it thought the starters and mains were all beautiful then the best really was still to come, served with crushed biscuits meringue a duo of coulis marble chocolate berries and some of the craziest yet amazing chocolate work I've ever seen, all in all the place truly is amazing, don't know we're this new Manager and Chef double act came from, but I do hope they stay, I'll definitely be back very very soon

My family & friends took 7 rooms at the hotel. Rooms & facilities good & accommodation price was very competitive. The English/Continental breakfast were great.
