Stopped in here with family for lunch. We'd been into a few other places in the area, but they were all very busy so we looked for somewhere quieter. Upon walking in I noticed a distinct smell of wet dog and the bartender, who was dressed quite smartly in all black, was barely visible in the poorly lit bar. We were asked if we'd be eating and then were asked if we'd like to sit indoors or outdoors, as it was sunny we opted for outdoors. The bartender saw us to a wet table in the garden with an upside down plant pot filled with cigarette butts. The garden was full of slimy patches on the grass which were very slippery and the children's play area looked like a death trap, the poorly strung faded bunting didn't make it look any better! When we ordered food at the bar no drinks were offered and when we asked for some the bartender acted like he was doing us a favour! There was no ice offered with the cold drinks and the wine was presented in a glass with a lipstick stain on. When I asks for th glass to be changed I was asked to point out the stain on the glass, as if I was lying. We moves inside to eat and sat towards the back of the pub, we were told this was their evening dining area and were offered a table by the bar, we declined due to the uncomfortable looks we revived from what I can only assume were regulars at the pub. The food was edible, but nothing special, the steak in the sandwich was very tough and the bread was dry. There was no check back during the meal and our plates were not cleared before we left. There was also no goodbye when we left. I work in pubs for a living and I'd just like to tell the landlord something...you're doing it wrong! That's why all the other pubs in the area were packed and yours was empty. On the plus side, your chalkboards were lovely, shame the rest of the pub wasn't as nice!

After a day of walking me and a friend had a really nice meal that evening. We both had game pie with seasonal veg. What was nice was being able to sit on the sofas by a roaring log fire before taking our seats. A really good place for food and drink in a very pretty corner of the Surrey Hills - check it out

Wednesday lunchtime, the place is empty. Landlady assures me they've been really busy (40+ for lunch). Unfortunately they all seem to have left by 1.15pm! Even stranger she says they were a beer swilling bunch and have finished the barrel. The landlord can't be bothered to change it so it's lager or water! Food was unacceptable. The goat's cheese tart was a pastry base covered in very nearly raw carrots (not al dente - just raw), topped with goat's cheese. This all sitting on top of a further pile of raw carrots. The goat's cheese was eaten, the rest returned. Asian style fish cakes were in effect three potato cakes (I couldn't find/taste the fish) served on a bed of noodles sitting in a quagmire of soy sauce. Great if you like salt but almost inedible otherwise. To compensate for our dissatisfaction we were offered free coffees. These were standard catering sachets of instant coffee with milk and water. Nothing fresh here then! Throughout our meal the guy behind the bar (landlord?) did nothing apart from eat a packet of crisps and converse on his mobile phone. The two ladies (landlady and waitress?) tried hard to please but couldn't even begin to compensate for a lacklustre meal. As for the 40+ diners, we saw only two elderly ladies emerge from the conservatory. I guess the other 38 had long since done a runner! We'll not be returning!

Our walking group used this pub and restaurant for the first time. Coffee at the start and lunch afterwards were fine. Some dishes were pub favourites and others leaning to the gourmet side so everyone was happy. Huge car park and nice conservatory and garden.

Three of us ate at the Inn this Sunday. The food was absolutely delicious and lots of it! Lovely crispy roast potatoes, super Yorkshire puddings, perfectly cooked vegetables, lots of them. Particular favourite were the rosemary carrots. All in all, a perfect Sunday roast. We were too full for pudding, which was a shame as they sounded very tempting. We sat outside in the pub garden on a beautiful English summer day, sipping a lovely cold rosé, listening to the happy sound of children in the dedicated kids' play area. Great, friendly staff, especially the lovely landlady, Gwyneth. A lovely local pub, we'll be back as we want to try most of their new summer menu.

I can honestly say that this is the best pub I have ever been to! We had heard that it was a decent pub with a good menu so we thought we would give it try last Sunday for a roast. Oh my goodness!!! We walked in and were instantly met with a smile, a happy atmosphere and absolutely gorgeous interior. We were quickly offered a seat in the restaurant and instantly handed our menus and told that a larger party were just about to make an order so that he would serve us first so that we didn’t have to wait behind a large group or meal orders. Within 10 minutes of choosing our lunches, we had our meals in front of us and they looked and tasted absolutely amazing!!!!!!! I had half chicken roast and my partner has the roast lamb, and every pinch of food on our massive plates was finished off. I have never been so happy with a pub lunch until I visited this pub! We then shared a crumble dessert and before we left stopped to pet the friendly boxer dog that came to visit us. Apparently if you give prior notice before your visit, you can bring your dog. Something I am sure we will take advantage of next time as I hate to leave my Jack Russell at home while we head out. We also quickly had a glance at the beautiful marine fish tank near our table which was lovely to see and definitely kept the children from other tables entertained! I think what made us love this place so much was the instant service, incredibly friendly and accommodating staff and wonderful comfy vibe the place had going on. We left a couple of hours later day-dreaming about the food we just had, and we are already planning our next visit! We will definitely be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friendly welcome, good choice of ales. Ordered Gammon, egg and chips for £10.95. Very disappointed as the Gammon was 3 slices of cold ham. I sent it back and ordered fish an chips which was a lot better. The waitress was "happy" to change it for me but if that was "happy" to help I'd hate to see her angry. Anyway the fish was good but overall a disappointing meal. Will try somewhere else next time.

We stumbled across The Inn on the Green by accident last night, after a detour from west sussex and we are so glad we have found it. The food was amazing, great choice, proper portions and good value. What really made it though was the service, everyone very friendly and not gushingly false, we felt very welcomed and would definately recommend this to everyone we know. Cant wait to go back!

I had been there in the past and had been quite satisfied, but on the last visit a couple of summers ago I was disappointed especially as I had recommended it ti a friend with whom I was lunching. Sunday lunch in any of the pubs around here is usually pretty good, but in this case the beef was tough and the whole meal was not very hot.

My wife and I booked here for a birthday meal. The restaurant area itself had no other bookings, but the staff would have been happy to open it up for us. We told them, however, that we were perfectly happy to sit instead at a fairly secluded table for two in the bar where tables were already made up.The barman/waiter was very attentive, and this place is clearly blessed with talented chefs. To start we had breaded, fried Camembert with a special pickle which was delicious, plus a melt-in-the-mouth, nicely dressed dish of small, fairly crispy squid rings - not your usual rubbery stuff - where my only criticism would be that the menu said it came with lime and salt but I couldn't get the lime through the mayonnaise. The main courses of slow roast pork belly and vegetables, and grilled chicken with wilted spinach and the ubiquitous crushed new potatoes, came in delicious sauces such as leek and ham for the pork (the menu said "leak" which could have been fractionally less appetising) whilst the puds were also pretty much faultless. We also liked the general ambience. We would recommend the Inn on the Green to anyone, and we shall go again ourselves soon.

It started badly with the owners' dog attacking our dog, my husband getting bitten trying to separate them and then the owners blaming us! And then went downhill.... We've been to the Inn On The Green several times because it's a convenient place for our family to meet and there is a huge car park. The restaurant/food/service have never been great but our visit on 22 December was dire, dire, dire. After 30 minutes, we were invited to order. BUT no one had given us menus. 45 minutes later, the starters arrived in dribs and drabs with no bread or fingerbowls and incorrect cutlery. It took another 20 minutes after collecting the starter plates for the main courses to be served; again, in dribs and drabs so that by the time we were all served, much of the food was cold. (Not to mention inedible calves liver; the tiniest mussels ever; dried and tasteless chicken etc. etc.) Foolishly, we asked to see the Pudding Menu and were told the kitchen had closed for Health & Safety reasons. Huh? Half-an-hour earlier they'd served us with 8 main courses but, suddenly, it wasn't safe for them to serve food! No wonder we were the only people eating at the Inn on the Green that lunchtime day; the locals know to avoid the place and so should you.

My wife and I have just spent our second short break at The Inn on the Green Ockley Surrey and have to say that the host and hostess are second to none, the service is second to none, and the food inThe Green Rooms Restaurant is the best we have eaten in a long long time. I like my steaks ultra well done, which mine was, but it was still juicy, succulent, and absolutely 'melted in the mouth'. I don't know what the chef did, but, whatever he did he did it perfectly. Thank you chef, Paul, and Gwynneth for a super break (again) D & D.P from Norfolk

We pop in to this pub and restaurant every now and then to eat and drink as it is pretty local for us. We have attended several functions here and have never been disappointed. So, when we booked our Wedding date we knew exactly where to head to have our reception party. From the planning stages through to the actual day Paul and Gwen could not have been more helpful and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble and they had many helpful tips from their extensive experience to share with us. On the day itself Paul, Gwen and the team excelled themselves, making the whole venue absolutely beautiful. We had welcome drinks followed by photographs in the beautiful garden, a three course sit down meal in the afternoon and a huge party with a buffet for 200 guests in the evening. The food was second to none, all freshly prepared by the talented chefs. All of our guests have commented on the quantity and quality of what was served, and the fact that the food was all served together, on time and was piping hot - a hard task to achieve! The bar staff were very friendly and worked so hard to keep our guests served throughout the day and evening - nothing was too much trouble for them, and everything was served efficiently, with a smile and time for a chat. This restaurant/pub is ideal for a large function with plenty of room to provide both the rocking disco area we required and more restful, less noisy areas to retreat to. The main wedding party stayed overnight in the very comfortable en-suite accommodation and enjoyed a plentiful, freshly prepared and served continental breakfast in the morning before departing for home. We cannot recommend this venue highly enough whether you are wanting a relaxing drink, a quality meal, a function or bed and breakfast accommodation. Of course, being local we will be returning to be 'looked after' again as soon as we return from our Honeymoon! We will always be grateful to Paul, Gwen and their team for making our wedding such an enjoyable and memorable experience!

After spending the afternoon in the beautiful garden and chatting with the wonderful staff, we decided to order a Sunday roast. As a previous reviewer said, there are several foodie pubs in the area but this has to be the best value in my opinion. The food is always good and reasonably priced (I recommend the homemade pies especially!), and I've never had a problem with the service. Great value roasts all day on Sundays too. Paul and Gwyneth are very friendly and do everything they can to make sure you enjoy your visit. There is a large enclosed garden with new childrens' play area, and the pub has recently been refurbished inside and out ( a big improvement). How the previous reviewer could call Kia (the resident boxer dog) horrible is beyond me! She is really cute and friendly and always very clean. The only thing I would change is a more varied choice of real ales. Perhaps some from the superb local breweries like Surrey Hills or Dark Star? Then I would visit this place even more regularly!

After reading the positive reviews of this restaurant we tried it for Sunday lunch but it failed to live up to expectations. Our meal took a long time to arrive, which I always take as a good sign that serious cooking is going on, but the roast beef was so tough as to be inedible, the roast lamb was dry, and the accompanying vegetables were hot in places, not in others. Warm puddings were served cool. Perhaps there's a different team operating on Sunday, but the food was not good.

I am pleased to report that this is once more a great place to stop in for a meal!We went for Sunday lunch. The menu looks more limited than on their website but I guess this is because the have a choice of Sunday roasts on. All the roast dinners were big plates of food, all piping hot and very tasty. Good quality local meat by the look of it. Other menu items such as the BBQ ribs were also excellent. The desserts were also good and all stated to be homemade.Good staff and well attended to despite it being a busy lunch service. We will be back soon!

We visited the Green Rooms at the Inn on the Green in Ockley on Friday 1st May '09. We had driven about 40 mins to get there and with this having been our first time here we were taken away with the quaintness of the village; as well as the place itself. We were pleasantly greeted at the door, shown to our seats and ordered some drinks and looked through the menu. I ordered the Sicilian butterflied chicken breast and my partner decided on the rump steak for our main courses. It was quite a busy restaurant with the bar / pub area equally as busy but the starters came in good time which we shared. The garlic mushrooms on toast was a perfect apitiser for what was in store. My partner’s rump steak was probably the best steak I’ve ever tasted and my meal was just as I’d imagined it. Looking around it seemed that all the food was home made and fresh which was nice to see. The bill was also quite reasonable. The restaurant area was lovely with the authentic old wooden beams and nice views of the garden. The staff were very polite and considerate as were the owners who, after our meal took the time out to answer our questions about this beautiful village and their establishment. All in all, it was a nice evening of which I would definitely recommend.

The Green Room is set in the Inn on the Green Pub and its very hard to fault any part of the visit we had, from the very large car park to the quiet garden. The pub has low ceilings so mind your head but the restaurant is very spacious and with lots of windows overlooking the garden. The service was spot on, a warm welcome and no waiting, and the choice of food is vast. The homemade pies were especially tasty, and the fish and chips was quite the nicest I've had anywhere. You will not be dissapointed with a visit to the Green Room or the pub, and the walk around the picture perfect green is recommended as well.

We visited the Green Rooms last Sunday evening with family, and very much enjoyed their Sunday Lunch Menu. This is available until 8pm on Sundays and consists of a choice of 5 or 6 starters, for mains 4 different roasts (chicken, beef, lamb, pork) plus about another 6 alternatives such as beer battered fish and chips, hawaiian chicken, full or half rack of ribs, ham egg and chips etc and a veggie option, and then a choice of about 5 different desserts. Starters are priced £4-5, mains around £9 and desserts (I noted sticky toffee pudding!) about £4-5 if I recall. We also had a bottle of rose wine for £14. 4 of us ordered garlic butter king prawns for starter, which came as 5 very large king prawns in their shells, served with a chunky slice of brown bread, butter and side salad. The other person had whitebait. All very good both in terms of quality and size of portion. Then the mains came out and these were HUGE! 2 of us had roast dinners (one beef, one lamb) and these were deemed excellent, except for the roast potatoes which came as 2 large whole roasted potatoes and so were a bit hard still. Each roast dinner came with a big side dish containing a selection of nicely cooked veg - which would really have been sufficient for 3 people to share! One person had a full rack of ribs and didn't quite make it through the mammoth plateful, whilst the 80yr old grandmother with us just made it through her half rack which she said were marvellous, but had to abandon her chips in order to do so! I had a lovely piece of beer battered fish but again struggled to eat my chips which also came with a big pile of peas and small side salad. So with all that, we stood no chance of sampling desserts! Next time we will start with mains and see if we have room for puds, but our advice would definitely be to arrive hungry! The restaurant was very quiet when we were there, we imagine Sunday lunchtimes would be the more popular time, but we liked the stylish upmarket pub type decor and ambiance and will definitely visit again. Staff were friendly and helpful. There's plenty of space with more seating through into the conservatory area with views onto the garden.

We had a fab breakfast at The Reverie. Quality ingredients (including some of the best hash browns we’ve ever had), quick service and attentive, friendly staff who clearly take pride in what they do. The rain was torrential so we didn’t get to fully appreciate the setting but you immediately see how stunning it will be in better weather. Vitally, the prices are unbelievably good value. A fresh, quality breakfast for £13 is unheard of in these parts - there’s plenty of places in nearby Reigate charging a lot more for a lot less. The staff and management are clearly fully invested in making their venue the best it can be for people and it really shows - superb.

We stopped here for a little food and drink as a minor detour from a hike and while it looked charming from the outside, once we were inside we saw the following: (1) severe under-staffing (2) depressing lighting and decor (3) very shabby 'garden' area that could use a LOT of improvement and (4) quite smelly, old bathrooms with incredibly slow, weak, and unusable hand dryers that didn't seem to have been updated in decades. The food looked nice enough from a distance but as we were told there would be at least an hour's wait for us to even receive starters (due to the under-staffing) we left. Also it all looked a bit over-priced considering the environment and generally in-need-of-renovation vibe of the place.
