We stopped here for a little food and drink as a minor detour from a hike and while it looked charming from the outside, once we were inside we saw the following: (1) severe under-staffing (2) depressing lighting and decor (3) very shabby 'garden' area that could use a LOT of improvement and (4) quite smelly, old bathrooms with incredibly slow, weak, and unusable hand dryers that didn't seem to have been updated in decades. The food looked nice enough from a distance but as we were told there would be at least an hour's wait for us to even receive starters (due to the under-staffing) we left. Also it all looked a bit over-priced considering the environment and generally in-need-of-renovation vibe of the place.

I would not visit this place again if it was free I left 2 phone messages and sent 2 emails and had no response. On arrival I asked for the gluten free menu and was presented with the standard Sunday menu with the gluten containing foods crossed out in felt tip with illegible writing. Basically the only option was the carvery less a lot of the extras Paid £16.99 for 3 slices of beef a few peas, beans, roast potatoes and carrots that were rock hard. Wife had the waffles because preferred options unavailable and they were like concrete Awful dining experience

We found the pub spacious & fairly well designed, but that’s it for the niceties. The service was bad, bordering on rude. We did not know if we would be served or go up, either is fine if you are told. Poor food just thrown together. Noisy & loud with swearing like a builders yard. A pub not for us.

Good place for a drink (especially with kids during the Summer because they have a bouncy castle) however the food was poor. I had the ribs (£19 so not cheap) and they were very dry.

Popped in for a light lunch on a Saturday. Nice location and an attractive garden. Actually quite a big pub inside and, along with the garden, it can hold a lot of customers; in fact, it looked like they do wedding receptions there. It didn’t feel busy, but there were actually quite a few people there, and they were clearly understaffed front of house. Only 2 members of staff to take all the drink and food orders, prep the drinks, deliver the food to tables, clear the tables etc. It looked like they normally had a greeting station but there was nobody on it, so it was unclear how and from what to order, but we found the menus in a rack ourselves and got on with it. Slow service at the bar because of the understaffing, but it would have been nice to have had an acknowledgement. Food didn’t take too long, but the ham and cheese toastie was stone cold (and they’d obviously put tomato in it and then took it out when they read the order and saw we wanted it without). The BLT baguette was ok-ish, but the bread wasn’t the best. Overall not great, unlikely to go back, but it does have the potential to be good at least.

Not been here for ages and last time it was excellent. Sadly this is still not the case. Arrived to a fairly empty pub to find no greeter and stood around for a bit, the bar staff were not serving but nobody asked if they could help. We were finally shown to our table. The music was blaring which would have been more suited to a club rather than having a Sunday lunch, however it was turned down on request. The waitress service was fine but the food was only average and no Yorkshire puds offered on the kids roasts which was disappointing. Nice pub and garden but would not visit again for lunch.

Booked a table here last night. The menu is very "pub" food, which is fine if it does what it says. We decided to share Nocerella Olives, Kalamata Olives and Halloumi fries as a starters. 1) They were ordinary queen green olives 2) There were a few Kalamata's but they were mixed with peppers and heavy handed herbs. Both sets of Olives had been kept at almost freezing point and the green olives were crunchy with being frozen. 3) The Halloumi fries were 3 1.5cm wide and 5cm long halloumi sticks, covered in Fish batter and presented with Sweet chilli may dolloped on the plate in no particular way. 4) Mains we had scampi & chips and Gammon with Egg & Chips. Both were fine, no massive complaints - but very standard pub food. Little attention to detail generally, as sauces cam in large ramekins, but with no spoons to put on our plates. I asked for a Diet Coke and a pint of said drink was brought to the table. The most disappointing this was that when the difference to the menu was told to the server - she just said she didn't know what nocerella or Kalamata olives were - so had no idea. I suggested that in future they served what they had listed on the menu. Also, at 9:30 we were told (without apolology) that they were closing becuase they were quiet. I fully understand this, but an apology and 30 minutes warning would have been courteous. The pub is brilliantly decorated and has a very comfortable feeling, they just need to back this up with an excellent food and service and they will be on to a winner.

Stopped off here for lunch after a hike. I was a bit hesitant as there wasn't a vegan option on the menu, however the service was great and the chef offered to rustle up a filo pastry vegan dish. The meal was excellent. I'd suggest adding to the menu. My friend's all ordered the burgers/steak and said they were fairly average meals/nice enough. Service was great, staff knew about the food and drinks on offer. Food came quickly. The toilets were very clean and the whole place seemed to have been recently refurbished.

After seeing the reviews on trip advisor we booked a table for the Sunday carvery after a long walk. We were met by staff who seemed a bit rushed off their feet, the restaurant was busy but not packed. The carvery was chaotic. The veg all looked very sad and over cooked, there was no cabbage. Although there was veggie gravy there was no veggie option. The meat was all being cut on the same board and when I asked the carver if he could pick up the chicken without using the same tongs for the pork he looked a bit perplexed. My Yorkshire was frozen inside and there was not enough gravy available. All in all just very disappointing when we could have cooked our own better. May have been having a bad day but wouldn’t go again.

Family Sunday lunch, order salmon but I had to wait for too long then be told to go a queue at the carvery. So I had effectively to wait again and queue to bb served - not at the table but at the counter. Salmon was ok but potatoes were not cooked enough. Lower than average pub food. I would not go again nor recommend the pub based on a bad first experience. Plenty of other pubs around so advice to management is to get customer management and experience right.

Brilliant friendly and dog friendly atmosphere. The staff serve with a smile and no delays. The kind lady at the bar kindly offered treats to my dog and the ambiance is very relaxed and calm. Now to start with the food which highlighted a very satisfying visit. with impressive precision and clearly knowledgeable chefs (speaking as one ) we started with Cajun calamari which was perfectly seasoned crispy on the outside with a meltingly soft calamari centre and a home made garlic mayonnaise dip that complemented perfectly. My partner had a cheesy garlic bread which had a impressive potion size and a spot on soft and crispy ciabatta doh consistency. Then onto the mains where I enjoyed a perfectly cooked and rested 10 oz steak with a hefty portion of thick golden crispy gourmets chips and clearly home made battered onion rings my god was this meal spot on, my partner had a massive and beautiful looking chicken burger with skin on fries and a homemade redslaw. My son had a mini fish goujons (definitely freshly battered). in conclusion this place served me a perfectly seasoned meal with amazing consistency and brilliant portions. The service was great and the atmosphere is welcoming. 10 out of 10 best rural pub experience I’ve had all round. Go here for all the points highlighted as if you want a relaxing day out with the family and the dog I can’t recommend high enough. Five well deserved stars

We stopped for a drink whilst on the Box Hill Hike and decided to have some food, despite reading some of the reviews and I am so glad we did. We had the cheese and meat platter which was amazing - good selection, well presented and so much, I am not sure how they did it for the price. I should also add the staff were really friendly and welcoming and the pint of Harveys was excellent. Surprisingly it was empty but we were met by friendly staff who were happy to see our dogs. The menu was quite limited but that may be down to Covid. My wife and friend both had the lasagna and I had the fish and chips. They were happy to replace salad for chips on the lasagna and it came out piping hot and quite a large portion. Sorry but this afternoon was terrible and i hope by leaving this review the management will take some kind of action before they lose more custom. We arrived around 1.45 a family of 3 with a 4 year old. They are currently running a very reduced menu (assumably due to covid and fair enough). The menu consists of a few starter/sharer options like chicken wings, ploughmans, soup and hummous. There are salads avaliable. There are 3 main meals - sausage and mash, scampi and chips or veggie burger and chips. Jacket potatoes and a very small kids menu also avaliable plus desserts. It took about 20mins for our order (inc first drinks!) to be taken. Ok so small menu, fine. Thinking this means theyve streamlined for best service and quality. We ordered 2 x veggie burgers (12.99 each!) And a jacket potato with cheese and beans for our daughter (£7). We waited around 1 hour 30 mins for our food. We asked a couple of times when the food would be ready. We were told they would go and investigate (and never returned to update) or told they were short staffed. During this time we asked for 2 more drinks. After another 15 mins it was clear these had been forgotten and we had to go up to the bar to remind. It started to become clear that others had also had a similar wait for food. One lady waited about 45mins just for a soup!!! While we were there a couple were also presented with 1 x main course when they were actually waiting for starters and also got asked if only 1 of them was eating as there was only 1 main course (nope they had both ordered!). The table behind us waited about 1 hour 45 mins for their food. They kept being told "its literally being dished up". I get the urge to say things like that when youre front of house but it makes it so much worse when even after anothrr 10 mins only a bowl of prawns arrives. So our food eventually arrives and it was nice enough but not worth the prices and the wait. Veggie burger was definately not homemade (freezer stuff) and the potato was a sad affair that had maybe 2 tablespoons of beans on. Rubbish. The coleslaw wasnt even homemade, for the prices theyre charging its absolutely outrageous. Once we had finished our food we just wanted to leave. The bill took another 10 mins as the waitress negotiated between the different angry tables. I felt for her as she was pleasant and was taking the fall for the kitchen but also could have done more to placate everyone, even just asking if more drinks were needed as she passed or giving updates. Untidy tables were left untidy for the whole time we were there. I dont mind waiting for food if Ive been warned in advance of the possible delay. If you cant serve 2 freezer burgers and a warmed up potato within 30 mins then close the kitchen until you have enough staff to perform properly. I will never return here and id take a good guess that a number of others present today wouldnt either. Be warned.

We dropped in for lunch after visiting Box Hill. There is a good ambience and friendly, helpful staff working within the current health restrictions.Service was good, but the one thing that let it down was the food. We both ordered scampi and chips from the limited menu. It was fine but unexceptional, basically cooked from the freezer, with too few scampi and too many chips. Compared to what other pubs are doing to create imaginative dishes, this was a disappointment.

I was at The Tree for an organized event as an invited guest with my wife. My experience was very poor. I did not feel the staff is capable to support event like this as service was chaotic from the start. Despite guest list and seating plan we, and others, were allocated seats randomly at different tables. We are both vegetarians. When serving food staff did not asked for any allergies or dietary requirements, so we ended up with a chicken soup and a meat dish, then to be taken and given to others, while our vegetarian dishes arrived with delay after we asked for vegeterian meals. We also got a wine bottle but no glasses and staff did not notice something is missing. Same with water glasses. Each guest needed to ask for one. Overall vegetarian food quality wasn't good and I would not come back there again for sure. I cannot judge value for money as I did not need to pay for food.Good things? Yes, a large parking at the back and nice interiors. But due to overall experience from that day I think it was my first and last visit to The Tree I afraid. Disappointing, especially for a venue in such nice area for leisure walkers.

Went here with a few mates and were overall satisfied. Read a lot of bad reviews on here which nearly put us off. I’ve been coming here for a few years just for drinks always been good. Nice, friendly staff. Ate here once or twice before a few years ago. So the waitress was very kind and helpful. However waiting for them to come and take our order was longer than other places. The pub only had like 5 other people there so not sure the excuse. When we wanted puddings one of us went up to the bar to order as we needed to leave the same evening. The food is very good. 2 had humus which was very nice and big portion. I had prawn cocktail again big portion and very nice. Mains most of us had scampi and chips. Again good size portion and very nice. Great value for money. It was a restricted menu for some reason which I was disappointed about as scampi and chips is pretty good at Wetherspoons. So to have something a bit nicer would be good but they might be on the main menu. Only thing they let the evening down as said by a few was slow service. Maybe there was only one bar lady I don’t know. Seemed under staff to me.

Other customers at bar were really friendly and made us welcome, while we waited.......and waited......and waited for the bar server to appear. I wonder how long we'd have waited if another customer hadn't shouted her out from the back. She slouched out, looking sulky and unfriendly and didn't bother to apologise that we'd been waiting for probably around 10 minutes. No wonder the place was virtually empty. We won't bother again, despite the really nice locals who seem to like it there. Such a shame as it's been decorated in exactly the style we love. We didn't even bother to try to order food

The first person to last person, was a long time, meaning that we did not ear together.- The starters were lovely though.- Younger staff were pleasant.- The special vegetable curry was watery, lacked vegetables, and was tasteless.- Older staff lady member was stressed and not pleasant.- Lemon drizzle cake lacked lemon flavour and was small.- No signal and no wi-fi available.All-in all, an ok-ish pub. Would not be heard to make it great.

We were a lunch party of 16 guests - food arrived over an hour and a half after it was ordered and in drib and drabs and was of the poorest quality I can recall in a long time, perhaps ever. I am a vegan and after being assured my meal was vegan i was sad to see it smothered in mayo - one of our party waited nearly 2 hours to be served her salad and in the event was served tinned tuna (still bearing the imprint of the tin) with bagged salad shoved around the edges of the plate. The kids menu was awful - cheap sausages and the worst chicken wings I’ve ever seen (and not actually chicken wings but lumps of breast meat slathered in ugly and vinegary BBQ ketchup). the pub had run out of crisps and orange juice and while we were there were waiting for someone to deliver baps for the burgers. the pub was understaffed in every way and the whole experience was just terrible. it is a shame because I am sure everyone works hard there and it is a nice place in a good position but just an appalling lunch experience. A group of us booked a table at the pub for Sunday carvery lunch. Everything seemed fine when we arrived, we had a nice table and sat down at 14.30. That’s where the good experience ended.

last night went for a meal at the tree it was 7.45 pm. ordered drinks and after that all went down hill. their was a party of 4 and me and my partner. when ordered food it took ages to come out. when the food arrived it was missing the side orders. when the side order arrived it was cold.when asked for fresh it was the microwave job. we ordered skin on chips but ended up with normal chips from a bag. their was 1 bar person on running the bar and floor????? not very good service at all. the open fire she could not light oh and the the fuse box went so must be an issue with over loading? so to sum up my visit 8 people eating over all service rubbish food cold late over priced . think the tree is trying too hard to be something their not, also i would ask the chef if he would eat his cold food? have some pride in your cooking.

Visited with my family late Sunday afternoon because my wife was keen to have a roast dinner. I had the Box Hill Burger and my three children had a combination of chicken nuggets and sausages from the children‘s menu.

me and my boyfriend went this evening after a walk over Boxhill. The pub is very welcoming, albeit a bit over-decorated with “live laugh love” type signage. Maybe if they spent less money on these signs and more on food the portions would be worth the £13.95. We left still hungry.

What a beautiful place to eat and drink, the staff were so helpful and the food was very good too, the owners father and his beautiful little dog helped my ageing mother into the pub and to the table.

What a beautiful and wonderful place to eat. The food was out of this world and very tasty and beautifully presented and prepared. It was so clean and the staff were so helpful and kind, we had a party of 12 off us. The staff were so polite and could not do enough for us. I would definitely come back here again with my family and friends .

Our local carvery was unable to accommodate us in Ewell this Sunday, and we were not disappointed with our second choice. Lovely fresh food, staff were so friendly & brought a lovely treat for my doggies & a bowl of water. The grandchildren enjoyed the free bouncy castle whilst we sipped their premium Rhubarb gin.

We won’t be coming back here. This is our third time here over the last year and it’s been getting steadily worse. Mediocre food, horrendous service from booking to paying, and we were overcharged on multiple items on our bill. No surprise the place was empty on a Saturday night.

My sister and I lunched here as it was local. We ordered a few starters and 2 drinks. The girl at the bar took an age to take my order, claiming she was ‘rusty’ after a period of absence. Our order came to over £40, which I thought was pretty steep.

This place has a lot of potential but honestly it was shocking. There were 2 members of staff serving at the bar and serving all the food on a very busy bank holiday Monday.

Under staffed is an understatement. Feel sorry for the one barman on a bank holiday Monday. Overpriced food too. Nice venue and location so such a shame.

Visited with my wife and son and his partner. Ordered 2 starters and 2 main dishes. Requested that they all be served at the same time. Starters arrived in good time but mains had not arrived after 25min. Complained and were told that they were just coming. Complained again after 10 minutes and mains finally arrived. This was immediately followed by two more mains that belonged to other patrons. This faulty service was also happening to other customers. We were given a bottle of wine by way of an apology.

We booked this venue for our Daughter's Wedding on the 19th July 2019. The staff were very very helpful as all times and on the day they could have not done more. Unfortunately we had rain on the day but when I asked for the Bouncy Castle we hired to be dried off they done this with no questions asked. I would recommend this venue to anyone who is holding a party, wedding 100%

I hate giving bad reviews and I really want to love this place as I live locally but the past three times we have visited it just gets poorer! The kids area is fab with bouncy castle to keep kids entertained but as for food and service it’s very poor, the roast potatoes were brown on the inside with an awful taste and the chef dropped one caught it with his hands and threw It back in with the other potatoes which he then served to us, the meat was over cooked, the kids meals which used to be homemade are now frozen nuggets which they still charge £6.50 for! We sat outside and wasn’t once visited by a waitress or had any plates cleared and many more tables the same attracting wasps and flies etc, we got over charged for our food which was only noticed once I complained for not getting our order altogether she said oh it must be the till then said we got a free pudding instead of offering our money back!

Sunday lunch with the fmaily and grand parents. The place was pretty busy, the carvery section was quite popular with family groups and there were plenty of young childfren running around. The pub has a nice garden, the interior is a little 'village hall' and not tradtional pub-like with exposed metal rafters and beams etc. No soft edges, wood floor, wooden tables, wooden chairs etc and as a result we found the noise levels pretty high.

Visited in April as a group of around 20 on a Sunday for the carvery. The starters were delicious and the cooks told us to wait 10 mins or so for the carvery as they were putting out fresh food for us which was nice.

My partner and i thought it would be a lovely day out we could get a nice big roast and enjoy our time in the restaurant. Could we have been any more wrong! The food was appalling we decided to see what the menu had instead of a roast dinner and waited over 45 minutes for under cooked food and the whole house was not busy at all you can clearly see they do not care about customer satisfaction and do not how to run a business smoothly. I cant imagine what a busy day would look like! But im surely not going to be there to witness it!!!!!

The service in the restaurant was terrible, especially the lady at the cash register. You're doing yourself a disservice by being nice to your customers. Not everyone is suitable for every job.

We had a fab breakfast at The Reverie. Quality ingredients (including some of the best hash browns we’ve ever had), quick service and attentive, friendly staff who clearly take pride in what they do. The rain was torrential so we didn’t get to fully appreciate the setting but you immediately see how stunning it will be in better weather. Vitally, the prices are unbelievably good value. A fresh, quality breakfast for £13 is unheard of in these parts - there’s plenty of places in nearby Reigate charging a lot more for a lot less. The staff and management are clearly fully invested in making their venue the best it can be for people and it really shows - superb.
