The Green Man in North Dorset

Amazing food, portions exceeded my expectations , great local produce. Definately worth a visit plus they cater for parties which is great for family celebrations. The staff, especially Matt the manger aswell as Cam and Kerry will cater for all ypur needs and dietry restrictions. I am always made to feel welcome, a roaring open fireplace, great food and fantastic homely staff you will feel at home which completes the entire experience of dining out. Definately worth seeking out on any day.

Beautiful surroundings and very friendly staff. However, Sunday Roasts were overpriced for what they were - one carrot, three potatoes, no parsnip and minimal meet - whilst it was all delicious (especially the red wine gravy) there wasn't much of it for the £18 price point. My husband had the pork and asked for more, but was told that he three tiny slices were the correct portion! My friend had the Waldorf Salad, it was huge. The children's chicken nuggets looked rather cheap. Drinks service was good and the facilities were clean etc. My main issue with this meal was that the portion was not value for money for the roast dinner. Each time I visit my friend in Dorset she has tried to get us a booking at The Green Man, this is the first time we've managed it. I'm not sure that we will rush back on our next visit. There were also a few issues on the menu, such as the menu saying that dessert came with Cider Ice Cream, when in fact it came with Vanilla....and lots of items out of stock but the serving staff not knowing this at the time of taking our orders

We are relatively local and have visited several times over the last few years. However, it’s not great. Our recent visit was typical of the customer service. My wife ordered a Sirloin and it was full of gristle. We pointed this out but she soldiered on giving up because it was too tough. When it came to pay for the bill, I was told she ate most of it, which clearly had not. What was left was meat with gristle and fat. We don’t need to visit again and we will spend money elsewhere.

The Club we are members of use this very fine pub for our celebration meals. As usual Matt and his team did us proud. Great food and service, great atmosphere and spacious dinning room. Excellent.

The roast dinner has gone really downhill. it was a solid 9/10 all last year, and now it’s a 6/10. The gravy, the most crucial aspect of any roast, used to so tasty and meaty, but it is now bland and feels more like a powdered mix. The yorkshire pudding used to be huge and impressive, and now is small and underwhelming. The meat was still good but overall disappointing when compared to how good it was. Last year we must had had a roast there a dozen times. it was fantastic, but now i’m unsure if i’ll be going back for food. Was a great local pub but feels on the decline which is hugely disappointing.

Extremely small portions. No alternative for vegans or gluten free and we were told we should have phoned first when we asked. When the burgers arrived the only thing in the bun was the burger, no salad, no condiments and we had to order extra side salad and fries which we have never had to do before in any pub or restaurant. None of the four of us will be returning and the only taste left of the visit is one of being ripped off. I am amazed that in 2024 any pub or restaurant has such limited options and super small portions.

Poor service, Staff need to smile! Cleaning up around us ,blowing out candles on not used tables. Generally not made to feel welcome

The four of us had a delicious dinner here. The service was excellent & wow the duck was cooked perfectly. Even my halloumi fries were the most tasty I’ve ever had. We would definitely recommend visiting here for a meal.

Wife had venison which was ok. I had the matador burger which was terrible burnt and dry. This place used to be our favourite for a special occasions but it has really gone downhill this year and this will probably be our last ever visit.

We had been looking forward to trying the Green man for a while and the day before the kids all went back to uni decided to treat ourselves to an end of summer meal. On arrival the place looked good. Staff are lovely. We eventually got a menu and ordered. Looking at just my experience….. they didn’t have my starter, so I ordered the soup. The soup came out cold so they replaced it. After I finished they gave me the bread that it should have come with. And hour and a half passed and we where all kind of passed being hungry. Then my very well done steak came out pink and really fatty. We paid what they asked for and left. Another local meal out where we wished we eaten at home

We arrived as the kitchen was closing and were happily served and not rushed at all. Fantastic roast beef, so tender with perfectly cooked veg and gorgeous roast potatoes. I never normally eat Yorkshire pudding as I find them rather boring, however, these were so good I ate it all! Brownie and crumble were just as good. All the staff were really friendly and efficient. We loved it!

Great service, great food and really nice location. The owners and the staff clearly work very hard. It’s very busy on a Sunday which says everything. Would 100% recommend, can’t be faulted.

Another excellent meal ! Four of us dined. Two excellent burgers, sharing plate of fish bites, belly pork - sharing plate was fresh and well stocked, belly pork tasty and hefty. I had one of the best pints of Courage Director's I've had in a long time - clarity and temperature perfect. We ate in the garden, which is attractive and well kept. The star of the evening though was our waitress, Shannon. It was great to see someone so young working quickly and efficiently, with great confidence that didn't wander across the line into cockiness. Will definitely be back.

Fabulous meal with special friends. We were offered a room with just our table in it. Very spacious room - usually used for buffets. There was 5 adults and a baby. Service was with a smile and very informative. The food was excellent. Having the room to ourself made our meal more memorable as we met with friends we hadn’t seen for some time and nothing interfered with our conversation. Thank you so much

Yesterday (Sunday) afternoon my partner & I went here for Sunday lunch, and it was stunning! We had baked camenbert sharing starter which was devine , followed by the roast , we both opted for Beef and the beef didn’t require a knife! This was our second time here on a Sunday and will definitely return! Thank you to the server who was polite and helpful with a good attitude even though it was very busy!

Visited the Green Man for a one course evening meal. Luckily, we had booked as the pub and dining room was full when we arrived. Our order of Scampi etc. took a while to arrive but was very tasty when it came, washed down with a nice pint of Gritchie Brewery Lore.

Helpful, welcoming and friendly staff. I was visiting for the 1st time with my hubby and our 2 dogs (the Green Man is dog friendly) I'm both gluten and milk intolerant. The staff printed me out a menu with options that I could eat, they assisted me with my choices. The food was very tasty, look great too. Prices were not cheap, but a fair price, you could order something more expensive if you chose to. The food quality was fresh and tasty. The was a really nice atmosphere. The lunch offering at the Green Man is the best in Dorset in our opinion. Great portions of home made and locally sourced dishes are the norm, The staff are friendly and helpful and truly make you feel part of the family under the expert guidance of Chef Will Lines. We cannot recommend it enough for a simple lunch or a Family gathering.

Having not been to this pub for many years, we went for Sunday lunch. Just two of us. We were ushered to our table, in what was the skittle alley, and the first thing that struck us was that it was freezing cold. I eventually succumbed to removing my coat when the first course came, as I couldn't really eat shrouded in Michelin-man style padding. Service was unbelievably slow - it took 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive. We ordered starters as it was cold and it looked as if we might have to wait for a while. These were fine. It then took another half an hour for our main course to arrive and the wine list took another fifteen minutes to come. The food was hot and tasty, but vulgar in its gargantuan portions - if I hadn't eaten for three days and been toiling the fields in the meantime, I might have managed half of it. Our feeling was that the pub had taken bookings at the expense of the service it was able to offer.

Who wants their last meal before lockdown to be bad? It started well enough with me having my chips whilst my Mum and brother had their starters But when my main came, looking very sad no garnish just a tough overdone ribeye steak with a couple of onion rings and something else brown!(mushrooms) for £17.50 a high price for bad food. I sent it back after struggling to chew a couple of mouthfuls. My Mum's steak was perfectly good and tender. I dined here in March just before the 1st lockdown and it was a delicious meal. I booked a table with this pub a few weeks ago for today (Sunday 20th September) which was my wife's birthday as we are staying in the area overnight. I know my wife was disappointed with the roast lamb she chose and mentioned to your waitress when she asked if all was ok with the meal. Apart from a couple of mouthfuls of lamb the remainder was inedible. The waitress said she would let the chef know and came back with a plate with 2 pieces of the same lamb saying my wife may be able to cut some tender pieces from it as that was the end of the joint and it is usually a bit fatty, and that was the last of the lamb. She went on to say that you were looking to change their supplier, sorry that's not my problem! We had starters and main course but did not feel we wanted to stay for dessert or further drinks. When i asked to pay, I had to go downstairs with the waitress as there was only one card machine working and I must admit I was expecting something to have been taken off the bill but no such a gesture was offered. Very disappointing for her birthday! Would we recomme d or return. No.

Really great meal with all the pub classics and then a few other choices. Had the gravalax start which was fantastic. Burger main was superb too. Kids meals were well cooked and enjoyed too. Staff were friendly, helpful and the COVID restrictions were taken seriously at the venue.

The menu was a mix of pub classics with additional more up market dishes. The pub was operating at reduced capacity due to COVID-19 . They were taking Covid seriously and had good reduction measures in place and the staff were taking great care not to breach them.We had two courses. i.e. 4 different dishes. All were cooked to perfection, served promptly and were piping hot.A great experience and we will certainly return.

A first visit, but won't be the last. What a find, & on my doorstep. Wonderful.I really enjoyed the Confit of Duck, My friend a tender & tasty canon of Lamb and a perfect child's meal.Such a friendly team, Anne was great with the 2 1/2 year old tear away child! The dining room looks perfect for big groups, & a raised area, where we were, makes you feel like you have your own space.There are snugs near the fire, and another side room, plus the bar with its well stocked shelves and good pumps for beer, larger etc, Plus a lovely outdoor space.

First visit to eat since new owner took over, previous experience was not good. Very nice decor, and friendly staff. Varied lunchtime menu, and the food was of a high quality. My only gripe is the price of wine by the glass. Possibly too high for rural Dorset. Otherwise very good.

Sunday lunch is such an important part of British life. We had heard good things about this reopened pub and so we had to visit. It was busy on a Sunday lunchtime but we had booked a table. The food was very good. The "roast" was ample and the puddings were delicious. I was not sure about sitting in the "bowling alley" but it was fine although I did not like the drawn curtains feeling that it was midnight instead of midday. The staff were friendly and chatty. We will definitely return.

Started going there when it re-opened a few months ago and found the service rather slow and the menu limited to just a few basic pub choices. But when we whent back last week for Saturday lunch , we were happily surprised to find a much more comprehensive menu with a lot of dishes to choose from and a very good service. The food was very well presented and very tasty. If they can keep to this new standard, it is well worth considering as a restaurant.

First visit, looking at property in the area, friendly busy pub an a Saturday lunchtime, friendly staff able to find us a table for 2. Food was excellent, quite pricy but good quality. It looked like it had been refurbished recently, well done but possibly a tad too modern. Would return for all the positive points.

We visited the Green Man the night it reopened in July and on another of occasions since. The refurbishment they carried is excellent. We have always found the owner, landlord and staff friendly and welcoming. It is just a nice place to visit, just enjoyed a meal from the Christmas menu, really good, great asset to the area, thank you.

Went in for a drink. Was largely ignored, despite standing politely at the bar. Finally served by the 3rd member of staff. Couldn't have cared less if I was there or not. You really need to try harder. If you don't enjoy people, maybe you are in the wrong game?

Recently renovated to a very high standard this pub is well worth a diversion to visit. A very warm welcome awaits, good range of beers and wine, Well trained attentive staff to take your order from a good small pub food menu. What can only be described as very honest well cooked and well served food. Great all round, highly recommended.

Service was terrible. Diets coke was full fat coke. Out of 4 starters ordered only 3 arrived. Mains ok but nothing to write home about. Was advised had another party - only a small group. Have to say was just so disappointing for us all.

Friends told us of this recently opened country pub. It’s lovely. Decor is spot on, the atmosphere is what a country pub should be and the welcome warm and efficient. the food and the service is really good. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and the accompanying drinks, mine non alcoholic as driving.

Attended with a large skittles group and the staff were wonderful - even had more bar staff on duty. Totaly refurbished and done to a very high standerd. Lovely atmoshere so will return.

Went to the Green Man yesterday to have food there for the first time since the pub reopened in July. Absolutely delighted with the results, good food, generous portions and well presented. Lovely atmosphere as well.

My husband and I went for Sunday lunch to the Green Man today. We found the food, the surroundings and the service perfect. A very pleasant experience. We will definitely be back again.

We had dinner here recently and were impressed by the quality of the meals and service. We ordered from the Specials menu; my wife had the confit duck leg and I had the roast hake. The duck leg was very large, full of flavour, and went well with the accompanying veg. My hake was perfectly cooked, as were the potatoes and butternut squash bisque, which was delicious. We both enjoyed our mains so much that we decided to have a dessert each, creme brulee and a chocolate brownie, both of which were very good and the decaff coffee was excellent. Service was also excellent throughout and we were encouraged to sample our drinks, an italian red and a, new to me, Ringwood Brewery ale, before ordering and both were very good, the wine in particular. Two courses each and two drinks came to around £60, which we thought was good value given the standard of our meals as it was evident that some skill had gone into their cooking. As we live locally we will certainly visit again.

Since reopening the Green Man always seemed to be busy so gave it a try early one evening. Booked a table and explained wife's onion allergy, lady said no problem. Greeted by friendly staff, shown to table and drinks brought. Small but nice menu which I was told will expand over time. Starters of Soup and Calamari both really tasty. Chef cooked wifey a chicken burger with no onion, chips and garnish. I had the fish pie which was very filling and delicious. No room for pudding!!! Lovely food, great service and good value. Well done to everyone, we'll definitely be back.
