The Great Southern Pub in Lambeth

We Specifically went on Sunday to try their Sunday Roast. We had gone to the Faber Fox, which is a short distance from this pub and it was very disappointing and was more expensive then this pub, so we thought we would go for a comparison. We both had the Beef roast so it was a true comparison with the Faber Fox. The beef was slightly chewy and had some fat, however is was very flavoursome as was the excellent gravy. The Yorkshire pudding was large, however it did not provide the outer crispness with a slightly doughy centre. The potatoes were not as externally chrispy as is my preference, but were the best part of the meal. The vegetables were not over cooked, however there was not any sweetness to them. Atmosphere was excellent, Staff were very polite and the family's kept their children under control. I would score this overall 6.5 out of 10, against the Faber Fox which was probably a 3! I reviewed Erins in Beckenham which was an 8 out of 10!

This pub is beautiful both inside and out and very clean the only thing that failed was the Sunday roast I had the beef which was very chewy The Yorkshire pudding was too big and very overcooked that it fell apart when I tried to eat it . Not enough potatoes either. Quite disappointing given the price I paid I expected it to be a lot better

Nicely refurbished Victorian pub with very friendly atmosphere. Great range of beers and a superb Sunday lunch in the menu.

Had our staff admin group lunch here today. Large group and only one of the group had been here before. We were totally impressed with the vibe, the food and customer service. With one staff member serving our table (sorry didn't get his name but has ginger hair!). He was run off his feet and nothing was too much trouble. THANK YOU. We shall certainly visit again. Can't believe this venue is on my doorstep and never visited!!

The pub hosted my 60th birthday party last night and it was great. Jack and Dale were really helpful and managed everything really well. The atmosphere and size of the Dining Car area where the party was held was perfect for the 40 people who attended. The buffet, in particular, was really enjoyed by everyone. I had a lovely day out with family and the waiters were so nice! And the food was sent out rather quickly! Very pleased The food was beautifully presented too Definitely will return!

My first reaction to the establishment were mainly positive, focusing on the grand features and the traditional theme and aesthetic of the entrance. Unfortunately my positive vibes were short lived after receiving my food. The chicken burger was hailed as being “The best chicken burger in the world” but after tasting the concoction I was no more than disappointed. Butter milk chicken burger? More like breast milk arse chicken gurner. Plus the portion of chips we were given were boarder-line criminal. I’ve seen more potato on a plate than at a weight watchers convention. Won’t be coming back again.

Sunday lunch was good quality, good portion size and was reasonably priced. accommodating for kids and the pub is spacious which worked well for parking the buggy

A guest at a three year old’s birthday bash. Seems like yesterday she was born. Anyway, the staff are always friendly, welcoming and helpful here. A really good team of people. Food (beef dinner for me) was lovely. There was a good crowd in. Mixed ages too which to me shows TGS is working on more than one level. The most important guest (three years young) had a really good time. And got a few claps at the conclusion of ‘Happy Birthday’ from guests at other tables which delighted her! (Good bunch of 20 somethings having a Xmas lunch played along beautifully). I’m told by mam that the TGS were really accommodating and helpful regarding the birthday.

We went to this place with three generations of family for Sunday lunch. They have good classic roasts with starters and a small range of desserts. Nice informal atmosphere and no problem with small children wandering about.

Great local pub. Wonderful food and really friendly staff. Had the new dishes on the menu; sea bass and lamb shank. Really tasty. Nice alternative if you don’t fancy a burger. Can’t recommend this pub enough.

Six of us, from a regular lunch club, met up for Sunday lunch, today. We were warmly greeted and given a table on its own, so we could be more socially distanced. Service was very friendly and efficient. The food was excellent, beautifully cooked and very generous. Between us we had all the Sunday lunch dishes including the veggie option. Everybody was really satisfied, and so we have booked for lunch in a fortnights time. We have had a lot of experience of local pubs and restaurants and this was one of the best.

Excellent service, really friendly. The only tiny thing is they took a bit too long to put the outdoor heating on . Otherwise perfect.

Great friendly pub, the food is delicious and served promptly. The staff are friendly and chatty. Beer garden is sheltered with cosy lighting. We had a lovely evening.

Beautiful renovation of a classic London pub in the first place. Even better in the current climate with high ceilings, big garden with covered heated space, super clean bar and toilets.

Knightsbridge prices hit Gipsy Hill, someone's having a laugh. Poor interior design, lacking in atmosphere. I doubt I'll bother returning any time in the near future.
