Lovely fish and chips. I highly recommend this very friendly restaurant. The meal was delicious the batter very light and crispy. Will be using this on a regular basis.

Beautiful fish and chips served by very efficient staff. Plenty of parking. Excellent selection and staff are always willing to advise. Reasonably priced too.

Visited with my mum-in-law who is in a mobility scooter, the staff were wonderful helping to get the scooter into the restaurant by putting out ramps and moving table to accommodate the scooter. The food was very nice and I loved that I could order a healthy choice of steamed haddock and salad.

I went for the first time on Saturday for lunch. I was suprised at how busy it was and how many tables had reserved signs on. The interior and the decor was really nice. The service was fast and friendly. I thought the lunch time special menu was good value for money and I opted for 2 courses. I enjoyed both courses and would definitely make a return visit.

Fish and chips were OK, but portion size was small compared to other chippies in the area. The 2 courses was very cheap.However, the apple pie was over microwaved and had a slushy bottom and the custard was grainy. If we return we shall stick to fish n vhips

Excellent haddock & chip lunch for two. Small portion option just right for lunch. Teapot with 2 tea bags and hot water! All for less than £14. Service and cleanliness excellent.

Never alters. Lovely fish and chips. The batter is so crisp and tasty As cheap a meal as you will get with the Pensioner's special. Cant fault it. Best in Brighousr

Fantastic meal again today, we have been here for years and we are always happy. The owners Madison and Sam really look after us and all the staff are brilliant. We will be back on Sunday again and we travel from Pontefract twice a week, but it is worth it.

Ordered 2 chips , 2 sausage and a curry sauce was £10.70 , had about 9 chips in each container , no salt and vinegar. Absolutely appalling chippy

This is our ‘go to’ fish & chips. The food is always great and can tell it’s fresh. We usually get a takeout but we look forward to eating in soon as the service is always friendly.

Food was delicious and the service was outstanding. We came in on Saturday as a party of 8 and the waitress who served us could not do enough for us, she was fantastic. Will be back

Myself and 4 friends had the pensioner 3 course lunch for £9.60 on a Thursday. The staff were so attentive and even reminded a friend to dash out into the carpark as she'd forgotten to pay her parking before a parking warden was just about to give her a ticket. So Thanks 😍 The haddock was beautiful - amazing choice of puddings - I had the apple crumble and ice-cream - yummy.

I decided to call in here. On approach, I'm sure I could smell beef dripping, which is always a plus with me because there are few fish shops today that cook in dripping. The fish and chips were fabulous, and the staff were polite. I would certainly call again. My only gripe is the fish is a bit on the thin side. Next time I will dine in.

Fish batter too oily and soggy, skins of the chips over cooked with the potato hard and uncooked! So they were cooked too quick. The kitchen hygiene was horrid, didn’t looked mopped or swept thoroughly for a long time.. try not to look in the nooks and crannies .. what lies beneath! This used to be my favourite chippy, I drive some distance to get them so what the hell has gone wrong!? When I went to give them my feedback on my disappointment all I got was sorry to hear that.. no actual care in her voice. Won’t ever go back!

Lovely crispy batter on the fish. The steak and kidney pie had a nice flavour. Chips were good. We've been a few times in the last months and will continue to visit.

We have been regular diners at the golden hind for many years. We have noticed over the past 12 months a couple of price increases and a drop in portion size. Unfortunately todays visit was a massive disappointment, I don’t mind the price increase but my portion of fish today was such a thin fillet all I seemed to have was a lump of batter as was my husbands. The trifle was a let down as my cream seemed to dissolve and disappear before I finished eating it. I am sad at having to give such a scathing review after many family meals here over the last 15 years, and doubt we will be visiting anymore. Sorry

Got chip butty and fish butty. T/cakes were hard. Chips okay but fish had more batter than actually fish.

Had a late lunch in the restaurant with my parents. The staff really wanted us to enjoy the experience. Starter, main and dessert were delicious. Will definitely come again!

Called in last evening around 8pm for fish & chips the chips were okay but the fish was terrible. I found the batter around the fish to more a less burnt and sticking to what little fish was inside. The fish itself was hard and tasteless due to it being over cooked. I have had plenty fish & chips from here before during the day and found them to be okay but l always find them in the evening to be poor, why l do not know possibly un fully trained fryer or not cooking the fish from fresh when you arrive. I would be careful if you call in in the evening because the quality is not the same as in the day when it is busy.

Called here after a lovely day out in Yorkshire. We have been here about four times over the past years and always enjoyed our Fish and chips in the restaurant before returning home to Lancashire. We came here on the 16th of November 21 and what a difference in the Restaurant, its absolutely lovely in the Grey and white, lovely wooden floor, new home made tables, lovely comfortable chairs, nice tiled wall. We soon found out that it has new ownership, a young couple, the young lady we spoke to was the owner and such a lovely friendly person and was explaining what they had done, it looks lovely. We had soup to start, delicious, followed by fish, chips, mushy peas and gravy, perfect. you get you cup of tea in a proper Tea pot. Tables are really set out nice and the place is spotless so congratulations to the new owners, you have done a brilliant job. Would we come back here again, of course and would recommended this place to our friends if they ever come to this area of Yorkshire. Hope to see the owner again in the near future. Wish you success in your new .business

Haven’t been here since the 1980s. Visited on a Friday tea time and was pleasantly surprised to find a nice fresh modern interior. We all enjoyed the tasty fish and chips but what made the visit was the delightful young lady who served us. Friendly, welcoming and efficient. A credit to the establishment.

We go quite often and never had a problem! Staff very friendly and accommodating. If y you go Tuesday and Thursday a pensioners special is three courses plus tea or coffee for £6.80. Excellent value and we'll worth a visit!!

both me and my mum had been out to Keighley to do an errend, but decided to come home a different route and stop off at the golden hind, and first thing we noticed and smelled was a fresh lick of paint, big improvement, we was welcomed by a pleasant waitress with white hair and glass's, and we ordered fish n chips mushy peas & curry sauce and pot'o'tea for two, and was delicious we was served within 5mins, the waiting staff were very friendly, this take away/restaurant needs to sell itself more to get more bums on seats.

From walking in to leaving we couldn’t have been made to be anymore welcome then we were a lovely smiling face from a young lady greeted us on arrival. We could sit anywhere as we were early and the first people in. Restaurant was spotless not a speck of dust or a crumb on the floor. Order was promptly taken and arrived soon after. The batter on the fish was outstanding and cooked to perfection huge flakes of beautiful white fish encased in crispy batter. Chips were cooked to perfection.

Food is good, the restaurant is always clean and tidy. The kids like the ice creams after as well. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Asked for steak and kidney pudding with chips and received pie and chips. I don’t like pie so couldn’t eat it. The chips were the biggest joke EVER. Both my husband and I received what looked like a child size portion. NOT EVEN A HANDFUL OF CHIPS. It looked like students were running the place but were too busy talking, and not concentrating as I found before. We also asked for salt and vinegar. When we got them back there wasn’t one grain of salt on them nor vinegar so tasted bland and dry. This has happened before and weve let things go where they’ve totally missed things off the order. I doubt we’ll be go there again. If we hadn’t have been staying at a hotel at the time I’d have taken them back into the fish shop because this need addressing. It’s happened too many times now the student working there are obviously getting away with it. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!

Greasy, burnt batter although the actual fish inside was ok. Chips had a lot of black bits on them. Not much else to say. Prob won't go again.

I remember going to the Golden Hind when I was a child and now I take my kids there. I assume it has had a few owners over the years though. The menu has a good range of options but we have always just walked in to the restaurant and ordered the Fish and Chips plus accompaniments. I’m not sure why you’d go to a fish and chip restaurant and order soup or lasagne but I guess it’s good to have something for everyone. The fish and chips are consistently good and the service does the job. The only problem I’ve encountered is when requesting unbuttered bread as it seems the bread is buttered in advance with none left in reserve. Great fish and chips though and I hope I get to take my grandchildren one day!

When we first ate at the Hind restaurant we were impressed, large portion, nice food and reasonable prices however, our last two visit have been very disappointing, burnt fish and tiny portions, today visit will definitely be our last!

Went for pie and chips twice. They were wrapped up very quickly and when I got home I was disappointed to find the pies were hard and unpleasant while the portions of chips were tiny. Also realised, too late, no one had asked if I wanted salt and vinegar.

Been to local fish and chip shop for Food at dinner time,it was ok,nice and clean, staff friendly and efficient but fish and chips left a lot to be desired, it certainly is no competition for blakeys

both me and my mother was out for run out in car, and we got bit peckish, so as we was driving through Brighouse and decided to go to the golden hind, but it was getting towards closing time 4pm, we ordered fish n chips b'n'b and pot of tea 4-2, and waited no longer than 10mins, and was cooked just right, even the pot of tea was spot on, and would like to say thank you to the waitress who served us, she was pleasant and smiled.

I regularly visit this place during my shift break, I have thoroughly relished their mouth watering fish and chips, always fresh and crispy. The curry sauce is wonderful with warm cup of tea to invigorate me for rest of shift. I have always been greeted by friendly staff . Today my respect for the young staff has cemented even further when I saw with how much love, care and humility they treated a pensioner who had fall outside and was bleeding profusely. Without hesitation and with compassion they brought elderly chap into restaurant, tried stopping his bleeding, called ambulance and were absolutely professional in dealing with emergency without any fuss. Hats off to those girls and their families and mentors for raising such wonderful citizens.

Came here for a birthday lunch.. fish was soggy, black burnt bits were all over, chips weren’t great and there wasn’t much of it.. peas were in a bowl to share which I found odd.. had a bowl of apple nd berry crumble for after.. well it was disgusting.. all crumble (when I say crumble what I mean is an inch of undercooked stodge) with no fruit and very cheap powdered custard over the top (could still taste the cornflour in it) overall I wasn’t impressed although it has to be said it was fairly cheap.. just not one for me I’m afraid and I won’t be going back..

Always coming in the Golden hind as it is the best fish and chips around, we usually come in on a Friday night. Usually a queue in the takeaway section but it’s always worth the wait.

Had a delicious lunch. The haddock was as good as ever and worth the 45 minute drive from Manchester!

This place has gone downhill used to go there fairly regular the last time I went the fish was awful really greasy I don't think it was haddock had to wait ages for it to cook will not be going back

First time we had ever been & we enjoyed it. We went on the recommendation of a friend. My partner & son had the fish and it was massive, I had the scampi and really enjoyed it. Only negative thing I would say is that you have to wait a while as they do get busy.

This chippy used to be the best in brighouse but over time it's gradually gone down hill.....I was passing so I thought I would give it another try "my god" what a mistake !!!I had to wait nearly 20 mins.The portions of chips was the smallest portion I've ever seen...they use a polystyrene tray no bigger than 3" long and then to top it off the fish n chips was very very poor...NEARLY EVERY CHIP HAD A BLACK BIT ON AND TASTED BAD !!!£1.70 for a child's portion of chips Are you having a laugh !!!

Very nice but a bit chip portions rather small. Some chipys give u too much but this is the opposite. Price doesn't reflect size neither.

We love this takeaway. You can ring ahead and order as well as just turning up. Massive fish, delicious batter and non greasy chips. Usual peas, sauces and bread cakes. They also sell home made rocky road etc and ice creams. Free car park right outside the front door!

had heard about this place after a couple of friends of mine, so I went over on sunday 26/3,decor ok'ish, but waitresses friendly,i ordered standard fish n chips with curry sauce, pot of tea and b'n'b, and thought io would push the boat out and have ice-cream, was delishious, and was mid range priced.

Sometimes eat in the restaurant, always great service and never waiting long for the food. The best fish n chip shop around Brighouse and surrounding area.

Came into The Golden Hind today (6/1/17) , the takeaway was rather busy but was dealt with extremely well and professionally and the staff were extremely organised. The fish and chips were a lovely golden brown colour and tasted excellent. Will definitely continue coming here.

Really enjoyed our fish & chips earlier this week, we normally eat in the restaurant but as we have had a busy week with the festivities we decided to take away. Service was fast and food was fresh straight from the pan, we were home enjoying our fish and chips in no time. Definitely the best chippy around.

A proper fish shop in brighouse situated in a large council car park next to the canal. We Enjoy a walk on the canal after eating in the restaurant or take out on a sunny day food is alway quality fried by a ex professional footballer . Staff are very pleasant and polite

We only manage to make it a couple of times a year living far away, but it is always worth it! We always go into the restaurant for regular fish and chips, the portions are for the hearty and the fish second to none. Lovely to have a nice hot traditional fish and chips with the family at Christmas - just wish we lived closer!

I regularly visit here but wish that I had not done so today. F & C did not taste like haddock...rather more with a sardine/mackerel flavour. I will seriously think about another visit here. A shame because they normally are ver good.

Very disappointed with our takeaway today, 17/12/16. The chips were fine, although a bit cold but the fish and batter was horrible. Batter should cover all the fish and prevent the cooking oil or fat getting to the fish. It was a waste of money. We have gone here for years but the standards have fallen.No more visits to the cafe either!

We come here only on special times.. We used to visit all of the time but since we lost our dad we only come occasionally.. fantastic fish n chips. Family run place. Staff always friendly. Car parking isn't ideal but if u see u warden drive off . Memories all around this place. So nice to sit and eat while watching the boats pass on the canal..

I visited the Golden Hind fish and chips restaurant with my wife and we was made very welcome and shown to our table,I would describe the Golden Hind as a up market cafe. There is an extensive menu of fish and chips and all the usual sundries with lots of alternatives [too many to list], I had haddock and chips curry sauce tea bread and butter and my wife had haddock and salad with tea bread and butter both haddock were very big and cooked to perfection my chips were proper chips big and cooked brown not the pasty in colour like some, the bread was lovely and soft and the tea was piping hot.The meal was excellent and we got what we went for which was proper Fish and Chips like I said earlier there was numerous alternatives but we went for Fish and Chips and that is what we had and they was fantastic. Just to mention I think ? it has a drinks license for those who like a tipple.

After a disappointment in the weather we cancelled the BBQ and decided that we would cheat and get some fish and chips, being the closest fish and chip shop open on a Sunday near us we drove on down and picked up two lots of fish and chips, two chip butties, two sausage and chips and a bag of bits, 2 minuets later upon arriving home and unwrapping what we expected to be a nice treat we found that the chips were not only under cooked and hard they where barely any to be found, the fish was okay at best and the sausage didn't leave much to be desired for.Much to our disappointment we ended up throwing them in the bin and cooking a Sunday dinner, which from our experience we should have done to begin with.

Called here with kids for a treat. Was lovely!!! Had the standard fish and chips with peas and t-cake, fella had the special and I kid u not was the size of a whale!! Haha will sedentary be returning and they do special Monday to sat of 2 courses for £6:50 can't beat it! X

What a feast. Deliciously cooked, fresh from the pan. Good choices for all the family. The lovely girl who served us deserves her wages and more. Nothing was too much trouble and she got all 11 meals to us hot and with a smile and to the right person without asking We will definitely return soon. Thank you.

Well worth a visit, superb quality and not expensive. Lunch time deals, great for OAPs! Deals on Tuesdays and Thursdays for younger ones.We often use the take away, great value.
