The Golden Haddock in Angus

Food okay but nothing outstanding. Asked for bread and butter to go with fish and chips. Got some cheap white bread and wasn’t with butter. Was cheap spread that only covered half the bread. Had to use the toilet. Wished I’d checked there first. Cleaners must have been on a long holiday. Floor in seating area needed a good clean too. Very disappointing.

Worst chippie tea we’ve ever eaten. Batter too thick and uncooked in fish and pizza, thin parts of batter burnt. Nuggets and chips were disgusting. £23 put in the bin. Won’t ever be back

Horrible white pudding supper. Batter thick and chewy and a quarter of the chips black and green and had to be thrown out. Will not be back in a hurry will go back to our usual one.

It was edible and if i’m generous, it was average. Fish was ok but not the batter that i like (bit thick and flat with that white layer between the fish that causes the fish to slip out the batter). Chips weren’t hot and fresh. No homemade tartar sauce. Service was good enough. Peas were garbage and microwaved. Marco’s along the way is much better in my opinion. Nothing against the place but i have to be honest with these reviews.

Tried the breaded haddock and it was delicious, the portion size was perfect, chips and fish had a nice crisp to them, will definitely be going back next time in arbroath, I will recommend this chipper.

Worst mock chop fritters . Could hardly eat it the batter was so hard on the mock chop I had to break it of to get to the the dry hard meat . There was nothing golden about this batter more like brown

Really enjoyed the Smokie Supper at the traditional restaurant, The Golden Haddock. We were given plenty of food and the Arbroath Smokies were delicious. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

This place is so much more. There is a restaurant to sit in on the side of the chip shop, whre you can enjoy your fresh smokey with the best chips of Scotland.

Worst fish supper ever , fish was poorly cooked and tasteless, chips were re heated and far from fresh , several of them showing signs of discolouration ie black bits and dark brown indicating potatoes past their sell by dates . Won’t be back , I’ve taken a photo of the chips and hope theirs an option to add it

Went there as looking for food as in Arbroath for a concert , small eating area off chip shop .service was superb a young lad served us very polite and hard working . Battered fish , a big portion came with bread and butter, chips peas and coffee all for 10.45 , All in all an excellent experience .

This year we visited The Golden Haddock 4 times and had 4 Smokie suppers each at this place. That comes with tea and toast, beautiful Smokie and Chips. The little restaurant opens at 4. Why not skip your lunch and have your tea here. Very nice people serve you. With a loyalty card your 6th fish tea is free.

Great portion size, the haddock was freshly made, the batter was delicious and crispy, the haddock was white and flaky and cooked to perfection. The chips were great, freshly made. We got served really efficiently too. We've been to other chippies in Arbroath, this is the best. Straight 10/10.

You really can't go wrong when you visit the Golden Haddock. For take away or sit in it's good value. Friendly staff and always a welcome from Claude and Mel.

Perhaps I should eat more off the menu at the Golden Haddock - but every time I go in I know I just want the fish supper and the potato fritters. Why? Because the fish has been consistently fresh and freshly fried whenever I have gone in never mind how close to closing - lovely flakes of haddock held in the crispy batter. Because the chips are not fried out of a big bag out of the freezer and the potato fritters? Well just go and try one - thin slice of potato fried in batter, none of your reconstituted mash. Service is excellent although the staff are naturally more attentive to customers when Claude is about! First class and top marks.

On our last night staying in a nearby venue, rather than cooking, we ordered take-away fish and chips. A large group (12) and apparently we had a discount, £7 each. They close at 8pm. Excellent quality of both, and not too generous quantities. If we were ever to return to Arbroath, we will make sure that we visit this place. Well done girls!

We bought a white pudding supper and a small fish cake supper from the Golden Haddock tonight. We live in Montrose whee there a couple of good chippys however the suppers were delicious. The staff were helpful and friendly, especially the lady who was frying the chips, she was chatting with all the customers. We will certainly be back.

What a wonderful place, the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. We decided on a takeaway to eat by the sea, 100 metres away. Really tasty, fresh fish, great batter and the chips were wonderful. It certainly beats a number of east coast "award winning" establishments. Try it for yourself, you won't regret it.
