This pizza is the very best pizza in the whole of East Lothian!!! We have been going for over 15 years and returned today for the first time after the pandemic and it’s even better than ever. Amazing And now they deliver! Seriously the finest food in the area and the best customer service ever. An authentic Italian establishment. Thanks again!! Brian

Great coffee, lovely homely cafe. I have special memories of The Grain as far back as it's time when it was known as Marios. Lovely pizzas and bacon rolls to die for when you are hungry of a morning. Love the new look layout of cafe, it has arrived in 2020 in supreme style.

Was passing through Haddington (with which I have little familiarity) and wanted a fast lunch. Eventually, After finding a parking place I came upon the Golden Grain. Not much to say other than that it is dated (looks like it has been around for ages without much change), food choices are limited, basic and of low quality. I managed to eat most of the food (I was hungry and lunch was long overdue) and left pretty quickly - fast food of a different kind here.

I hadn't eaten at this place since the late 70s early 80s when it was a good cafe serving excellent lasagne. I read that they do Italian nights once a month so thought I'd check it out before making a booking. Turns out I was the dummy. There is nothing to advise you that you have to order at the counter. After sitting for about 15 minutes I caught hold of one of the servers and asked what the procedure was. I had been going to have the soup of the day with a crusty roll, but didn't care for what was on offer and decided on Sausage, egg and chips and a large glass of milk. The sausages were of poor quality and I'm sure they had been pre-cooked and to within an inch of their life. My egg was also over-cooked and had a skirt. The chips weren't great - the uncooked half tomato was the best part of the dish and I enjoyed my glass of milk. Even though my dish was pushed away partially eaten, not one of the three staff on duty approached me to ask if everything was alright.Pretty dated and hasn't changed much, if at all in 40 years.Really disappointed and won't be back.

Looks like a sixties café/coffee shop with tiny wooden booths...a bit dowdy and old fashioned now but we were here for a quick tasty lunch and that's exactly what we got. Lovely bacon roll (with the bacon well done as requested), chicken panini and small pizza. Everything was fresh and hot.Orders placed at the counter (where the menu board is located so can be a bit busy, crowded), food served to the table. This place was quite busy when we arrived and we got the feeling that it is a popular venue with locals of all ages.

Firstly, I walked in and before I could sit down I was asked what I was after. Felt like replying "Let me catch my breath". Female who took my order could try smiling I ordered and took a seat.I only ordered a bacon roll and a can of juice. I began to wonder if my roll had been forgotten. Then a woman who had been siting at a table stood up and proceeded to a fry the bacon. Then a third person (a young girl) brought me my roll. They didn't appear to know which table had ordered it! I actually had to say to the young girl "Is that mine?" Then I had to ask for a napkin. Also the young lad washing the dishes need to take note. The plate I got was still dirty. By this time I just wanted to have my roll and go. At £2.20 for the roll and £1.40 for a can of juice, surely a smile isn't too.much to ask for! The young girl was very pleasant. Pity it doesn't rub off on the rest of the staff!Place not particularly clean. It's clear they're only interested in coining it in.Certainly wouldn't recommend or return.

I remember a few years ago visiting this place almost every weekend with family and raving about how they cooked the best pizzas. I've visited half a dozen times in the last few months and find the more I go there, the less I like it. The pizza's have too much dough and very little filling. The dough is incredibly tough and chewy, not to mention the whole thing is swimming with grease. The only positive thing i can say about the bland soup is that it was warm.

Visited the Golden Grain in December with a large group of about 15. The staff at the Golden Grain were very welcoming and went out of their way to accommodate our large group considering we didn't pre book. The food was average, pizza was nice (extremely large!) , although all orders didn't arrive at same time. The food is well priced and the restaurant has a very nice atmosphere. Would definitely recommend a visit when next in town!

It was like stepping back in time. A long narrow cafe, it extends far behind the narrow shop front. The walls are lined with booths, providing intimacy and privacy. It's a little gloomy, but that's because of the lack of natural light. There was no menu on the table just a board above the counter with tiny chalked out offerings. There was lots of squinting involved. Good old fashioned traditional fayre of morning rolls, sandwiches, baked potatoes coupled with pannini and pizzas. I went for a homebaked 10" pepperoni and onion pizza, my husband an egg mayo baked potato, my daughter, a prawn mayo roll. We had two bottles of sparkling water and the bill came to £15.80. I liked the pizza a lot. However, it was the kind of pizza that made you feel dirty: oozing with fat from the sausage and cheese but ever so moreish. Ever had one at Costco? Think of that but on a smaller scale. The pepperoni was decent with a good hint of fennel and spice about it. The jacket potato was fine as was the prawn roll. Essentially, this is a good old fashioned - I wouldn't call it a greasy spoon - cafe. I hear the coffee is excellent. The ice cream is also very popular. They offer salads so it's not 100% stodge. Something tells me, though, when I go back, I'll be going back because I fancy something stodgy. The freshly cooked macaroni cheese sitting under the hot lamp looked wonderful - all creamy and cheesy - and it was a tough call over what to have. It was a bustling little place with a lively atmosphere and good service.

There are a lot of cafes in Haddington and most of them are pretty poor. I'm still searching for a decent bit cake, but if I'm down there early enough, then the Big Breakfast here is always a treat. Good portions, quality products and it sets you up for the day. Sure, it's like stepping into a time machine to the formica clad seventies, but it's clean, the staff and friendly, and the fry up is great.

Went here a couple of weeks ago with my family who came down from Edinburgh. It was the only cafe open in the near vicinity so decided to go in. We only went in for ice cream and coffee, the ice cream display at the front of the shop looked quite inviting. I think I ordered the banoffee flavour. It was flavourless and full of chunks of ice. I really wasnt impressed especially at the price. The place could do with a bit of updating and it was stinking of fish (even though nobody seemed to be eating fish). I have been here before about 6 months ago for a scone and coffee, it was ok. I would have been more inclined to score it an average but that ice cream was awful.

Well those bad reviews are from people who didn't ask for food or had no taste buds. I have been to nearly every country in the EU and have never had such a good meal and service. i am now a local there because it is so good i always come back. i have been to all the other cafes in Haddington and non of them even come close to the friendly service and food there. If you ever have any issues tel the staff and there happy to help. No questions asked. They make there stuff fresh and they even make the pizzas in front of you and you choose the toppings. I dare you to try and find a place better then this gem of a cafe. After 10 min of sitting in there you can't help but smile. I totally recommend it. I've had pizzas on numerous occasions, usually as a take away. They are genuine Italian and are absolutely delicious. My most recent visit was on an occasion when I wanted to grab a quick bite to eat, but really didn't fancy the sandwich or baked potato on offer in most cafes in Haddington. Instead, I ordered a small pizza, which was absolutely delicious and just the right amount for me. Even better, it cost £2.40 (I think).
