The school was designed in 1896 and was built in two phases (from 1897 to 1899 and from 1907 to 1909). Designed by architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, it is made with stone and brick masonry and occupies the northern side of a steeply sloping site in the center of Glasgow. It combines handmade tiles characteristic of the Arts and Crafts movement and Art Nouveau with large industrial windows with some frames typical of the Viennese secession. The furniture was designed by the architect himself

I'm happy to share my experience at The Glasgow School of Art! The institution's commitment to delivering high-quality education is evident in every aspect. As a student specializing in design, I have found it to be a great place to learn and connect with outstanding lecturers with a lot of both practical and theoretical experience. Even as a first-year student who joined as an advanced learner from year 3, I've been thoroughly enjoying every moment and discussion with my tutors. The classes are of great quality, providing valuable insights and fostering practical learning. It's been a rewarding experience, and I highly recommend The Glasgow School of Art for anyone seeking an enriching and fulfilling education in design.

This institution has hit rock bottom. Everything is mismanaged and incredibly disorganized. The people here are very dishonest and every interaction with this school has been incredibly frustrating; they do not take students seriously at all. Complete waste of money. I highly do not recommend attending this institution. Anyone interested in applying should first look for recent student reviews online.

to the review of Baa! below, i can only quietly respond as follows. our taxes pay for social and health issues in scotland...be grateful they do please. Yes, some of the money goes to the arts. remember you can walk into almost any gallery/museum in scotland for free! As for the art school....put aside for a moment that this beautiful building has been providing inspiration and daily beauty in the eyes of our art students for the last 4 or 5 generations...that should be reason enough to save it!! The fact that is a CRM design and probably his greatest work, should resonate with all glaswegians and all scots. this man has brought in countless millions of pounds to the city and country in tourism since his passing.(and the beautiful margaret mcdonald mcintosh of course) Yes, we have other CRM designs that are beautiful in the city, but please , take a minute, breathe and ponder the importance of this building historically and socially before you ask for its funding to be removed.

The 45 minute tour is well worth the small charge. Our student was very much up to speed with the history of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Although the amount of his work you see is limited to a few pieces of furniture at the end of the tour, what she told us added detail to the story which helped enormously when seeing other CRM exhibits in the City.

The Mack is expected to open again as soon as restoration is complete. Can’t wait to 2019! Cute gift shop funding the restorations with some really good pieces designed by students at a very professional level . The Reid is an art school building where actual teaching takes place, not open to visitors unless registered during an Open day. There is a guided tour related to the Macintosh building.

Take some time to join a tour by one of the graduate students. Interesting history of Mackintosh and beautiful exhibition of Mackintosh's furniture. The building of the GSA is worth a quick view (both in- and outside), but most spaces inside are not accessible. By participating in the tour, you also contribute to the reconstruction of the Mackintosh school, opposite to the GSA.

One of the places to see on a Glasgow visit if you are interested in C. R. Mackintosh. Paid £7 for a 45 minutes tour. It supports the restoration of the original building which caught fire in 2014. It was a Hungarian student in her final year who conducted the tour. It was a pleasure listening to her. Loved the anecdote about the chair from the tea room on Sauchiehall.

UGLY UGLY UGLY....what an ugly eyesore the new Reid Building is. An absolute insult to the beauty of the Mac Building. I'm utterly astounded as to how such an appalling big green bottle glass structure was ever allowed to overshadow an iconic building such as the Mac. Also the disgusting state of the streets is shocking with filthy pavements, huge smelly bins and broken roads and pavements. Shame on the architects, shame on Glasgow School of Art and shame on Glasgow for allowing this. Ask the local nursery school kids for their ideas next time...I'll bet they would come up with better ones!!

The woman cooking was very rude to me and my friend... but the cashier was nice so we left her a good tip. Me and my friend both ordered the sushi rice base. She is Japanese and we were both disappointed because it was incredibly dry and crunchy rice!! Not cooked properly. Wouldn't recommend the rice at all as it took up most of the bowl too.
