Was so looking forward to trying their Sunday Roast but very disappointed, beef was tough as old boots, swede tasted of nothing, potatoes were anaemic and cauliflower cheese was cold 😢

We were staying at the hotel next door and saw this pub had good reviews. My partner is coeliac so we're always a bit nervous about trying new places. We were completely blown away by the place. The staff were so friendly, very attentive with the coeliac worries and we felt so welcome. The food was probably the best pub food I've ever eaten. I had chicken and bacon pie which was served on mash with asparagus and tenderstem broccoli. My partner had fish with potatoes and veg. There was no room for puddings (we nearly always have desserts) as the meals were so large! The flavours were divine. Only wish I lived nearer to go back again!

Went there this afternoon for lunch to celebrate my birthday with friends. Delicious food and amazing service! I don’t know how the lady was doing it all. Serving behind the bar and attending our table always smiling and never looked the slightest bit flustered, nothing was too much trouble! I had a couple of awkward requests, like chips instead of mash and I was bought a bowl or freshly made hand cut chunky chips. Asked for custard instead of ice cream to go with my sticky toffee pudding and they made it. I ordered chicken leek and bacon pie and it was the best pie I have had in a long time! Really tasty. Came with asparagus and carrots. All have lots of flavour and huge portions! Will definitely return! Highly recommend! All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our food and visit.

My first visit in a few years for lunch with former work colleagues. The food was fabulous (& great value) but a special mention for the hake special (my choice)….absolutely delicious with performed fish with a fabulous sauce and plenty of chorizo. I commented to my friends it was one of the nicest fish dishes I’d had in quite a while. I would definitely recommend this dish. Also a special mention to the lovely young lady behind the bar who seemed to be on her own and managing a busy lunch time. Friendly, helpful & polite, despite having a couple of large tables plus ours (just 4 of us) she is definitely an asset to the Gipsy Moth team.

I made a reservation, 3 weeks in advance, for 4 people at 19:30. Got a call at 18:00 asking where we were as according to them reservation was for 17:30! I explained they had made a mistake and table was booked for 19:30. I received no apology for their error, and was told they were full and had no room for us at 19:30. Even though they admitted it was their error, they had the audacity to say “have a nice evening!”. I was left to find another restaurant at very short notice for our planned meal. I was appalled by the awful customer service, lack of apology and lack of any attempt to rectify the problem. When I continued to express my disappointment I was promised a call back by the manager but that didn’t happen either. We were a small party of 4, I am sure, if they really wanted to, they could have fitted us in given it was their error.

Popped in for food as staying round corner in from hotel, was quite quiet as only about 5pm. There was only one person behind bar who was doing everything, but by just talking to him, he was very enthusiastic. A couple of beers and food. The chicken burger was one of the nicest I've had, wife had a seafood special off their board, which was also very, very nice. Got busiervthe longer we stayed. A really nice, friendly atmosphere. Loved it!

Pub food doesn't get much better than this. We had 3 starters, which, to be honest, was too much as the main courses are more than adequate. Monk fish scallops was lovely. beef pie great, pulled pork lovely huge portion be warned, curry very good all reasonably priced. Fantastic service from Claire and team, defo return. Thanks.

Just ordered what we thought was a light lunch - club sandwich served with chips, and nachos. Both plates were huge and very tasty, chicken in the sandwich was juicy and the bacon was lovely and crispy, and the chips were soooo good! Don't think we will need much for tea! Lovely smiley service as well 🙂

Waitress was fantastic and kept us up to date with our order and delays. Pub itself is lovely and the drinks are good. Sunday roast was horrible. The meat looked like it was kebab meat. The carrots were cut so thinly they looked like vegetable crisps. Gravy was good. Will jot revisit for a Sunday dinner.

Stayed a few times in the hotel next door . And it being the same brand as I stayed the weekend I was resistant to having the hotel food tired or tried again. So I went on the masterly journey of walking next door to the slightly intriguingly named “the Gypsy Moth” . Met with the most lovely “how are you my lovely” ( I’m a sucker for barmaids) where a very delightful barmaid taught her new protege. I went for steak and have to say it was a smashing success with a glass of the red . Recommend highly. Did get one more my loverly on paying the bill so all in all left happy.

The road was rough so I was stumbling along , suddenly I stumbled upon this pub. As I stumbled inside and reached the smart interesting bar,I realised almost instantly it was a Hidden Gem! After perusing the glittering bar selection I selected a real ale which was good. Then decided to visit the toilet facilities, stumbling of course, well...those facilities were a hidden gem too! All this excitement made me stumble even more . The welcoming bar lady helped me choose this nice whisky based short, it was partially hidden behind a bottle , guess what. It was truly a hidden gem! So tasty . I enjoyed a pleasant hour here then stumbled home

Been here many times over the years and since Donna and her team have taken over and renamed it back to the Gipsy Moth they have given this great location of a pub a new lease of life with lovely decor in addition. The Chancel has been one of our favourite places to eat in Plymouth for many years. During Covid and a bit longer they’ve been delivering or preparing for collection. Without much thought or any foreknowledge we walked down this evening hoping it might up and running for their traditional bistro food and good wines. Very disappointed therefore to find it dark, empty and will a To Let sign. No hint that there might still be an online service. Pity and we’re sad. Many dozens of happy memories.

Have purchased from here several times - both the cake slices and celebration cakes. Most of the time the cakes are great - light and fluffy, but have been two occasions where the cake was too sweet and did not taste very fresh (seems more of an exception), but will still be purchasing nonetheless.

First time here today. Sadly forgot to take pics as we meet friends and were chatting. 2 had breakfasts, 1 had scrambled eggs on toast and 1 had mushrooms on toast. Big portions, lovely food and reasonably priced for the quality & quantity. Every table was taken and a couple groups came in and left (due to no tables)....always a good sign of decent food. Will definitely go another time and take pics !
