In all my years as a member of trip advisor, this is the worst meal we've ever been served. The waitress appeared to be one of the owners and acted as if we didn't matter in her day. Ordered the fish and chips, which was more like corn pone with a piece of cod wedged in. Taste was horrible, presentation was worse. Ate one piece and gave up. Planned on a piece of gingerbread but was afraid to attempt a second serving of the food here. There are excellent restaurants in the Florence/Mapleton Oregon area, unfortunately this is not one. Avoid.

We visited as a family for lunch and ordered fish and chips, a jacket potato, a children’s meal and hunters chicken. Most of the food was ok, although the jacket potato arrived with 4 bits of chicken and half a rasher of bacon cut up. We asked to send this back and it came back with mayo on top. The prices are too high - £10 for a jacket potato with a filling and £3 for a childrens milkshake, served in a small plastic cup. We also thought the tables were crammed in and there wasn’t much room to move a round or sit comfortably.

Acting on the (misguided) advice of a friend we went here for lunch. The server who took our order was friendly and, after bringing us our drinks, advised that our food would "be along shortly". So we consumed our drinks and waited. Another couple came in, ordered much the same as we had done and were served within a few minutes of their arrival. And we continued waiting. After another 15 minutes of watching other tables being served I enquired how much longer we would need to wait only to be told that ours was up next. Still other tables were served and then, finally, and after a wait of half a hour, our food came. And it was awful!! Over seasoned with salt and served with skinny oven chips that were already only just warm. Can't wait to tell our friend what to do with his advice.

Ghe only good thing about this visit was the fish and chips that one of the elderly people I took for lunch had. We eventually got brought a huge pot of tea but it was ridiculously weak. We waited ages for lunch but our jacket potatoes ( 2 each !!🤷🏼♀️) came with minimal filling, no butter on it and a massive pile of lettuce with half a tomato and 2 miniscule pieces of cucumber. Very uninspiring and limited menu . The young man waiting on was lovely but the lady behind the counter could do with some customer service training 🤔 possibly okay for coffee ☕️ and cake though !!

Something different for us after having a baby two weeks ago 😊 The staff were lovely and friendly and very accommodating with pushchair ect. The afternoon tea was the best I've ever had. Sandwiches, salad, sausage roll, crisps, giant scone and huge slice of cake to take home. Really enjoyed ourselves.

Our party had sandwiches, lasagne and jacket potatoes The plus points were that the staff were lovely and the coffee was good. However, the lasagna was overcooked, with inedible, dry edges and served with overcooked fries and garlic bread ( 3 x carbs!). The sandwich bread was dry and could have had more filling. It also was presented with overcooked, thin fries.

Appalling attitude of staff. Kicked off the table before finishing our meal despite 7 tables free. We were given an hour at the table, despite other tables being free. It took nearly 35 minutes for our food and drinks to arrive which left less than 30 minutes to consume, 15 minutes later we were being reminded to hurry and finish, not easy for our parents who are in their mid and late 80's. with more than 5 minutes before the hour was up we were asked to leave, despite the fact our elderly parents had not finished their food. Disgraceful and appalling. Never again.

Went for a snack after nice walk on the Humberston Fitties. It was late in the afternoon so only cakes and drinks available which was exactly what we wanted. Had tea for 2, which came in a huge pot, and a single fruit scone which was certainly big enough for 2. I've had a lot of scones in my time but honestly this was one of the best. Seemed to be a friendly community cafe which also included the local library. Will visit again if in the area

I don't know where to start, the tables were all dirty but there wasn't any other customers in. After cleaning the table myself with my toddlers baby wipes I ordered a coffee and a slice of cake, I got my coffee and sat down and waited for my cake to go with it, by the time my cake came my coffee was cold! I don't know why it took so long as there was only me and my toddler in there. The cake was horrible, very dense and rubbery, definitely not fresh. I wouldn't recommend here and won't return

I was told it was a fantastic place to be, however i came down from Whitby to see my Mother, we decided to find a place to order some food, was told about Gingerbread house from her friend i ordered a milkshake with ham and mustard panini, my Mother ordered a bacon, avocado and chicken sandwich i think, the bacon barely hit the pan, it looked raw, my milkshake became a hot chocolate, soon as we sat down they bleached the table for cleaning, had to take inhaler... they could've of done this in their spare time when nobody was sat down, we said thankyou and left, none of them barely lift their head up to say thankyou and bye back

Visited today early afternoon. Lots of reserved tables.. but luckily one spare!Table clean. One menu. Some food on the chair.. which I brushed off before sitting down. Obviously not spotted.Airy and fresh environment. Service fast and friendly. We chose from the menu, but sadly when about order was told of many missing items and only 2 jacket potatoes left. Clearly a popular place.. and within a couple of hours must have sold loads. Ended up having brie and bacon panini which came with a small side salad, crisps and slaw. Also a jacket with brie and cranberry. Both fresh.. cooked perfectly and generous with cheese!A pot of tea severed with a china tea cup - spot on. Shame so many choices gone. Many reserved tables left.. so I imagine some later arrivals may have been a bit disappointed with choice.Scones look amazing.. Great beer choices.. and cakes looked very good.Staff super happy and friendly.Worth a visit.. but if after a full choice.. get there early!

Arrived For lunch with family, first thing told is we don’t have half the menu. Now there isn’t much choice on the menu as it is. I asked if I could choose from the breakfast menu instead as there wasn’t anything I liked left only to be told this wasn’t possible either. So I sat there with no food while my family managed to scrape together one sandwich and 2 pieces of cake.

I had originally booked a table for 3 for Mother's Day. Social distancing had just about come into effect at the time, so I rang up and asked if we could order takeaway instead after seeing a post the Cafe made on Facebook. We each had sandwiches/paninis, which came with crisps, coleslaw and side salad. They had 2 cakes in the counter that day, I went for a rainbow cake. Staff adhered to social distancing, tables were put in the entrance way separating customers from the cafe. My food was left on the table for me to pick up after paying with card. The food was very nice and we would like to come properly at some point in the future!

Been here a couple of times now, both about a year or so apart and both times I came away feeling disappointed. The service is absolutely fine, friendly etc. Chose our table and it was soaking wet from where they had cleaned it. Once they put the cutlery down, the napkins it was wrapped in became wet and unusable. I ordered a hot choc with cream etc which was nice. I also ordered a cherry bakewell scone - unfortunately this was prob the worst scone I have ever tasted, either that or it was gluten free because it was definitely lacking something (which I think was sugar). Luckily it came with Jam and clotted cream so I could mask the taste a bit but if it was GF, I didn't spot the sign. There weren't many diners in there but the ones that were in there had young children with them that they let run riot round the restaurant. The once quiet and relaxing area very quickly became loud and like a children's playground. Obviously this isn't the cafés fault but more the parents, but it just added further disappointment to our trip. Unfortunately we won't be coming back here again.

I am a great supporter of keeping Public Libraries open and a venue such as this lends itself to diversifying into a cafe/ gift shop - something that The Heritage Centre in Caistor has achieved with excellent results. HOWEVER..... On opening the door to The Gingerbread House one is met with an overwhelming smell of stale fried fat /oil, and the cafe's room itself is not at all welcoming, with very harsh lighting - somewhat reminiscent of a 1970s factory cafeteria. Despite being called The Gingerbread House, there is Alice in Wonderland wallpaper and a couple of large cardboard cutouts on the walls of Alice and The White Rabbit - where is the reasoning for THIS? As the 'library' part of the room is only differentiated by a small divider with gifts for sale on it, surely it would be more logical to call the cafe The Library Room (or similar) with wallpaper patterned in faux books? Even painting the 1970s square ceiling tiles into a black/ white or red/ white chequerboard pattern would give it more character. We had reserved a table (and I noticed there were a number of other reserved signs on tables) but our table was rickety and although the wooden kitchen chairs had loose cushions on the seats, the wooden seat of my chair was not affixed to the base, so when I tried to pull the chair closer to the table, I was pinching my fingers between the seat and the base. I realise there can be no control over the standard of customers, but sitting surrounded by a clientele who eat with their mouths open is a tad off-putting. The Americano coffee I had was acceptable, as was my brie & bacon toastie with side salad, coleslaw & crisps. My friend's breakfast bun was too large for her to finish and she said she thought the bun tasted a bit stale. The service was acceptable and ditto the cleanliness and it was very reasonably priced. The venue has LOADS of potential but the overall impression is one of indifference and being unloved. What a shame.

We eat out for breakfast a couple of times a week and are always looking for somewhere new. We went here on the advice of a friend, but unfortunately it didn’t live up to our expectations. I had the large breakfast. The sausages were not done enough for my liking, and hardly any colour to them at all and the bacon was smokey - even though there was no mention of it on the menu. The toast on both of our meals was barely warm, had no colour and was very doughy inside. One other annoyance - which may sound strange - was the awful sound of the music. The bass was turned up so high you couldn’t make out the lyrics, and it was just a terrible background noise that had us running out of the door rather than taking our time. On a plus the coffee was delicious and stayed hot until the last mouthful, but that isn’t enough to make us want to return.

Nowhere on any website, Facebook, door or menu did it say food finished at 16.00 and if we hadn't overheard someone say it we wouldn't have known. All day breakfast is therefore not all day breakfast. I decided to settle for a sandwich, which was covered in what I can only describe as a splodge of mayo with minimal cut up veg. Unfortunately, what a disappointment it was. There were no clean tables so we moved some pots from one table to another so we could sit down but the table needed to be wiped clean. Visited because people rave about this tea shop but can't understand why. It is not very child friendly as you can barely move as the tables are all squashed together. If you have a pram forget it as you won't get in. Booked a table for afternoon tea and sat there expecting them to bring it over. Mistake on my part maybe but everywhere I've been to for afternoon tea are ready for you and bring it over. Not once did they come and say you need to come and tell us what you would like. Had I not gone up to the counter we'd still be sat there now. The wrong sandwiches were brought out the scones were tough on the outside and the cake wasn't very nice at all. Only plus was it was a good cup of tea. Hugely disappointing!!!!!!!!!!

Staff very friendly, good vibe, fresh homemade food. Sandwiches, cakes and scones freshly made. Only tiny complaint is that they brought our tea and cakes first and we had a short wait for the sandwiches but the squirty cream on the cakes had melted all over! We are lucky to have this gem right on our doorstep. We met slightly later in the day this week and ended up having lunch here ( a first for our crew) and yet again we were pleasantly pleased with all aspects of food and service. Two of the group ordered pizza and the others had sandwiches. The sandwiches were a hit for their freshness and I have to say that the pizza ordered by myself was excellent and exceeded expectation. Being able to personalise it right down the chilli oil and spicy beef was brilliant as I like to order for my hotter palate. In fact, I liked it so much that I will be treating my OH to one sometime soon - so much nicer than Pizza Express and less of a commute to either Hull or Lincoln to boot!So what else do I love about this place? Well, just about everything. I've always found the staff here to be super-friendly and helpful and they offer great 'service with a smile' throughout. I also like the adjoining shop that sells gifts and clothes so the chance to have a bit of retail therapy between coffees is a plus. I have to additionally say that our group tend to linger, chat and keep ordering the coffees in whenever we visit and I must thank the staff for letting us stay as long as we do. As regulars, we appreciate this welcoming atmosphere and feel unhurried in our meet-ups here. The continued 'service with a smile' approach from staff is, we feel, genuine and much more so than other local cafes that are often more rude and brusque to parties that like to linger for longer and have 2 or 3 drinks ordered around their meal. There is no doubt that we will continue to return here as it is one of our favourite spots to eat and drink in the local area. Simply 100% recommended.

Took my mum for afternoon tea and platter, I had latte and a scone. Nice staff and quaint environment. Great tasting coffee and huge scone. Very nice will visit again, Didn't gave five stars because you can't really go wrong with a coffee and scone, will have to try the cooked food and cake next time, any excuse for another visit!

I took my friend here for lunch for a birthday treat. It looks beautiful inside and the staff were very friendly. The prices for the food seemed to be about the going rate but the portions did seem quite small. The food tasted fantastic but it did take a while coming to the table.

We popped in to get a take away picnic and it was fairly busy . I over heard a conversation saying their cook hadn't shown up so some people seams a little frustrated. They had also rang out of salad . However the staff was really professional and we ordered a picnic for our daughter and two ploughman's lunch , although they was no salad they used very good substitutes and reduced the price . The food was lovely and good value .We will be coming back .

This was our second visit to this quaint little tea room in our village and we had high expectations after the first experience. We again had an English breakfast. Firstly I asked for a small breakfast. We recieved a large one! No worry there! When we came to eat it evreything was overcooked! The sausages were cold and coated in co agulated fat! The bacon was crisp and practically burned! The eggs were borderline! Even the toast was overdone! The whole breakfast was a big disappointment. If you cant cook a straightforward bacon and egg what chance more complex food on the menue??Really disappointed!

Read a lot about the Gingerbread house lately so thought we would give it a try. Looked very popular with lots of young mothers and tots. Price of the coffee seemed expensive. £2.30 for a regular stokes americarno whereas average price is £1.60 at places like the Discovery Centre and a biscuit is included. Glad I tried it but won't be returning as I think it is overpriced.

Great little place to go read a book, have a coffee, piece of cake & a quick browse around the clothes and accessories. My daughter loves to go in and read the books and say hello to the friendly staff.

One of my favourite pit stops on long walks. Fresh baked scones are lovely served with butter, mini jar of jam and clotted cream all washed down with a pot of tea served by friendly staff. I've seen other dishes being served which look scrummy too so I will have to start working my way through the menu to try them myself. Only criticism is tables sometimes take a while to get cleared. But it's a small Tea room that gets busy and so I'm happy to wait because it's worth it :-)

We have been visiting the gingerbread house since it opened, the gingerbread house has friendly staff, very child friendly and serves great cake.My son George (teacake boy) asks to visit most days but we have to limit his visits, he thinks becuase we come so often he shouldn't have to wait for his order which has been toasted tea cake for nearly a year but he has just found the cake fridge and now wants a slice of cake....to himself. His favourite has been the sprinkle cake.My daughter Darcey is only a year old but feels comfortable in the gingerbread house to sit in her high chair and shout hiya at the staff every Time they walk by....every member of staff have stopped to speakt to her, unfortunately for the staff this just means she shouts more....we are working on stopping the shouting as it does get very loud.Myself and husband have always found the gingerbread house a very calm, welcoming plsce to bring the kids. When our daughter was born I breastfeed her in there and no one said anything. The cakes and scones are gorgeous, we have had breakfast a few times and always been great. The prices are great, food is great and staff are great.... definitely worth a visit or 4Only been once this week (yesterday) so we will be in for our cake fix our the weekend.

Me and 5 friends went along for an entertaining murder mystery. The entertainment was fabulous and we didn't stop laughing however the food wasn't great and certainly was not value at £30 per head, thankfully the entertainment made up for it and made it worth while.

Food was lovely. Service let it down by lack of professionalism and no smile with the service. Too chatty amongst themselves and alot of standing around instead of serving. Nice place but alot of improvements in service needed.

Popped in to the library for a coffee whilst visiting the folks for half term - left with a new top, jacket and scarf, and having had lovely coffee, fresh rich carrot cake, a free taster of the most wonderful ginger cake I've ever tasted and having bought cookies the size of plates for the kids. The cakes are all homemade and someone can certainly bake! The manager was so friendly and that's not always the attitude you get in eateries when you sit down ten minutes before what was supposed to be closing time! A unique and winning combination of cafe, trinkets and clothes, adding a dimension that breathes new life into the library facility. Reckon I'll have to go back again today before heading back down south.

Disappointed from visiting previous and having high expectations to then having a afternoon tea what I have had many of times crisps from pipers swapped to hard cheap crisps egg filling swapped to cheap sauce and bread swapped from lovely fresh crusty edged to cheap bread whilst putting price up which I appreciate as u are getting a lot for ur money but expected the same good quality produce what sets the ginger bread house apart from the rest real shame

A fairly short review… They do an amazing caramel hot chocolate and the breakfast rolls were spot on! Dog friendly and very friendly staff. Plenty of choices for both food & drink.

I have been going to the potting shed for years and have always loved the food , but today when I ordered lasagna it was so small and in a tiny dish , I understand cutting back but it was the smallest lasagna I’ve every had .

Great lively place great music BUT oh dear me the bar staff need re training. The are two bars and lots of people waiting to be served you cannot just serve the person stood in front of you or just walk away into the other bar. Any bar staff worth their salt know who is next or who has been stood the longest. Surely the manager allocated certain staff for each bar. Although it was New Years Eve it wasn’t particularly busy.

I’ve had a bad experience twice the first one I asked for 2 large sausage bun and the only 2 sausages in so it basically just bread. This time I asked for 2 sausage buns one with brown sauce one plaine just with sausage and they gave me 2 sausage and bacon with nothing on it’s like they made there own don’t go here.

Lovely snug pub on Cleethorpes Sea Front with lovely staff and punters. Even has pool tables and one of those mobile-controlled Jukeboxes. Shame it's so expensive! Over a fiver for a pint of Madri! Go one bar down to Willy's and you can get a pint of Becks for just over £4 or one of their local brews, or go up to the Fisherman's on Sea View Street and get a pint of local Docks Beers for the same price. Explains why the place is so empty during the week. I get the pub trade is struggling but as a Marston's pub you'd expect it to be a bit cheaper - it's Cleethorpes, not Brighton!
