The George at Donyatt in South Somerset

We used the function room at The George for a 60th birthday meal and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect evening. Helen and the other staff were so friendly and welcoming towards us and nothing was too much trouble. The function room itself was a great space. The food was delicious, our party included several vegans and vegetarians and there was a good selection of choices on the menu for everyone. We would absolutely recommend The George to anyone looking for great food in a friendly environment.

I can NOT pass comment on the star rating for the rooms because I've not stayed there. However, if the service and location are anything to go by, then the rooms will be worth a 5 star rating. What I can say is that the service is wonderful, the landlady, Helen, is lovely, and the food is plentiful. Hence, my mum and I enjoy going back there. We were booked in there for a Christmas meal on the big day at a cost of £95 p/h for a 5 course meal. (In my opinion, that is a fantastic value for money. They also, as a rule, don't hold wakes there, but they did hold my dad's wake there. So in my opinion you could very much enjoy a meal there. They're also a free house.

Met some friends halfway for Sunday lunch. One of the best Sunday lunches we have ever had. Vegetarian selection is superb. We will return

Had dinner here on Saturday evening after going to Twickenham stadium to watch England v Australia. The dinner was superb and service was exceptional. The staff are friendly and not afraid to have a laugh. A small village with a big heart (pub).

A lovely pub and great staff! We had some very nice beers, a lovely dinner, and when we were stranded without a taxi, one of the staff actually gave us a ride to our accommodation.

We had an amazing time at the George. The food was splendid and the staff were extremely friendly and customer focused. Definitely come again!

First time visiting this pub as we just moved to the area. Greeted on arrival and seated straight away, we had a dog with us and we were put in a nice quiet area by the fireplace. Service was quick and friendly, we were served by a few different people, all very pleasant. We both had a roast dinner, my wife the beef and myself the pork belly, both were lovely, the pork belly was probably the nicest I've ever had, very tasty and a generous amount of veg. Even the roast potatoes were spot on. The puddings are also lovely, lots of choice from some classic desserts. We'll be returning as we really enjoyed the food. The only negative was that once we had eaten we had to chase for the bill and then to pay as we seemed to be forgotten about as it got busier but other than that it was lovely. Would recommend.

We called in the off chance as we were passing by on our way from South Wales to Dorset. So glad we did the food was excellent and the staff so friendly and welcoming. Wish we had a pub this good closer to home!!

Had an anniversary meal and as I'm gluten, dairy, soya and peanut intolerant, I was worried about what choices I would have. I need not have worried, as the staff and chef were so flexible, and adapted my menu choices, I managed to have three courses! Would definitely go again.

Love this pub! We booked a table for 5 last night. The food was fantastic, really reasonably priced considering the quality of the food. Excellent choice on the menu, everything was fresh and delicious. My dad had the pie which was epic! I had the fish and chips. The specials all sounded delicious but i fancied some good pld hearty pub food. The staff are all absolutely brilliant. Really attentive, friendly and so warm and welcoming. This place is an absolute gem. Can't wait to come back again. Claire and family (including Oscar the dog)

Date night. I had the venison, better half had the lamb. Both were excellent. Gentle walk to get there. This is today's specials.

If you want to stay at an inn close to Ilminster then go no further than The George Inn @ Donyatt. We stayed there for two nights in May whilst attending a wedding and reception in the town and we were so glad we chose The George Inn @ Donyatt. Large parking area. We were greeted by the owner Helen and staff and made very welcome. The accommodation and food was 5 star. We will definitely book again when visiting family in the area.

Stopped off for lunch last Thursday. It is a lovely village Pub that serves excellent food and drink. Landlady and staff are friendly and make this a great destination for lunch or dinner. The menu is extensive, we opted for the two course menu which is well priced. Between us we had whitebait for the starter (perfectly cooked and good size), chicken and pork main course with new potatoes and vegetables finished off with apple crumble and cream (custard or ice cream options). Coffee to follow. Very enjoyable and one of our favourite Pubs. Beer was good too. Check out the Beer Garden and the men's toilets with the very humorous Guiness cartoons. Very clean too! Looking forward to dropping in again when we are next passing. Many thanks to everyone at The George.

Our group of 14 walkers arrived unannounced; not having been able to warn the pub of our plans, and must report that the team sprang into action and not only was the service magnificent but the food was absolutely wonderful. The staff are nice people and this is reflected in the atmosphere within the pub. Thanks to the team; we will be back and we'll give you notice next time 😊

What an absolute gem to find by accident. It is so lovely that we made our way back for our last night of our holiday . The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The actual pub is so beautifully decorated and has a lovely atmosphere. Now the food ... omg the food is to die for. Absolutely gorgeous and generous portions also .

Gorgeous pub, good quality food and drink, atmosphere was very welcoming and staff were friendly. One particular member of staff stuck out though, didn’t catch her name she had short blonde hair and earrings. Overall my experience was lovely would recommend.

Had another Sunday lunch at The George. Would like to say the overall experience was very nice just on a personal note. The Tarragon in the food was a bit overpowering seemed to taint the whole meal, may be just us ! Good quick service.

The veggie Sunday lunch was just delicious. The best nut loaf ever. Everything was so fresh and tasty. Beautifully presented, the high quality produce was cooked to perfection and the service was excellent. Although it was fully booked it still had a lovely peaceful and relaxed vibe, perfect for Sunday lunch.

Superb meal excellent and friendly staff We were there yesterday for Mother’s Day lunch and the lovely little bracelets for all the mothers such a lovely thing to do we were the table with little baby Jack who didn’t stop eating 😂 Thankyou once again will definitely be back enjoyed every minute

Absolutely astonishing!! We had the privilege of visiting this wonderful place on Wednesday for a family get together and it was our first visit to boot but it most certainly won't be the last!! My flabber has never been so ghasted!! The actual building is like the Tardis, it just keeps going, there's a bar/restaurant which runs through to a little ante room which is the access to the courtyard garden then on to the dining room. It's beautifully decorated with a lovely welcoming atmosphere and we were all bowled-over by it. The menu choice is mind-boggling too, so many choices, and the quality of the food is amazing. (I'm running out of superlatives here!) So, bottom line is if you want really exceptional food in a warm & comfortable place you arguably can't do better than The George in Donyatt. A word of caution, you'd be well advised to book a table, especially at weekends if you want to avoid disappointment!! There is also accommodation here, but as we didn't see or use it, it would be inappropriate to comment on it.

Stopped here for Sunday lunch on our way home. Great food great service could not fault in anyway.

Found this place by chance planning route back from Bristol and what a find! Went for Sunday lunch and it was superb. All the staff were friendly and efficient and such a lovely atmosphere. They did apologise for any wait as 2 staff down but we didn't really notice any wait and it seemed to run like clockwork though everyone was working hard. Will definitely recommend and can't wait to go back - Thanks guys it was lovely 👏

We had a really love Christmas works meal here. The staff & proprietors are friendly, welcoming & attentive to everyone's needs. My dietary requirements were met without hesitation & i was even offered beforehand to make something off menu if I'd needed it. Thank you for a lovely meal Will definitely be back for a date with my husband ☺️
