Our first visit here and we were pleasantly surprised. A lovely atmosphere, real cosy country pub which is a rarity to find these days. We both thoroughly enjoyed the main course exactly what you would expect. What lacked ever so slightly was the service, the minute you asked someone over they were polite and friendly, and they got what you needed, but what we would have liked was a little more attention, in other words, why not pop over and see us first? Check in and see if we need anything before we call you? This is more a training issue, awareness of your customer and could be easily addressed. It was not busy, and even if it was is that an excuse? Tweek this and it would be spot on 5 stars. Will we go back, definitely.

I had the most spiffing time at the George and dragon. Patrick went above and beyond for our customer service and was an absolute delight to be served by. I told him I would be accompanied by my 92 year old grandmother and he wheeled her through the door himself. Can’t recommend higher, anyone in the area should go to this pub to meet Pat and his team! 5/5 will definitely be visiting again the next time I’m in the country as I live in Afghanistan.

First visit for a family meal , booked for 1 o'clock but for some reason food took nearly an hour to be served , the food was nice and plenty on the plate but it took a long time to clear the plates and then we had to wait again for a while for the desserts , as I work in a similar industry the staff where friendly enough but table service could have been a bit quicker, on a whole we would eat there again as we enjoyed the food ,but just need quicker service at the table.

We had sausages and mash, beef ragu and a child's mushroom pizza followed by two chocolate honeycomb cheesecakes and salted caramel ice cream. The mains were very good and the desserts were nice, but a bit lacking in chocolate or honeycomb flavour. The service was friendly, but a bit slow as we were there for over 2 hours. There was no child's menu. They said they could do child sizes of any adult main, but the child's pizza was only £2 cheaper than the adult's one and our child was four years old.

Booked for 7 for 7.30. Pre ordered food for 13 people but food didn’t arrive until 8.30. Outside punters seemed to take priority despite our pre orders. Very disappointing. If I can give more than 5 stars I would! Really good food (probably the best pie and mash I’ve ever had…ever!). Service was spot on - friendly, professional, helpful and savvy (always know what to say!). Great atmosphere - rustic charming 17th century low ceilings pub that’s spotlessly clean! Beef bourguignon pie & mash: Flaky and flavourful crust - was expecting heavy full pie crust and was ready to leave it and eat the filling only, but was surprised at how delish (and not too heavy it was!). So ate it all together with the delish filling, tasty fluffy mash, sweet fresh carrots, beans, kale & red cabbage. All delish when drizzled with gravy. 5/5 and more! Lamb burger & chips - Superb as well! Light fluffy brioche bun, with minty grilled welsh lamb patty (taste the char!), and skin on chips. Burger - 4.5/5; Chips - 4/5 Great selection on tap - if you can’t decide (or just want to sample more), there’s even a choice for a flight of any 3! Perfect!

Have just come back from visiting G&D for lunch and it was delight. The food was delicious, the wine was beautiful and the atmosphere was joyous. It was just what you wanted for luch, a busy, buzzing relaxed atmosphere with great grub. Thanks to all the team, service was great, and I look forward to dropping in next time we are in the area.

My wife and I were staying at the Bridge Farm Fishery for a weekend getaway. We were talking with the owner and he recommended the George and Dragon. We merrily walked through the fields past the alpacas and found the pub. We sat down at a table and had a few alcoholic tinktures to ease away the journey and start our weekend off in the right way. The staff were very friendly and a very pleasant evening was had. Whilst there we booked a table for lunch the following day which was no problem to the staff at all. On our return on Saturday lunchtime the staff remembered our selected drinks and allowed us to go to the table we had happily sat the day prior. My wife and I shared a prawn starter and had mains of the hunters chicken burger and I had one of the special pies. Both meals were very high quality and well cooked. I who do like a desert tried the crumble sundae which was very nice. On our leaving we took a cheeky punt to book a table for Sunday lunch which was Mother’s Day expecting a refusal. To our surprise they said they could fit us in so we returned the following day. There was a set menu with sufficient options and my wife had a pate starter followed by the beef and I had breaded mushrooms followed by the chicken. All courses were cooked to perfection and the size of the portions actually made me fail in its total obliteration. To our surprise the owners had reserved us a table in the bar where we continued to have a couple of shandy’s talking with some of the locals. We both thoroughly enjoyed our time there and will definitely be returning at some point.

Have eaten here a number of times before & enjoyed it but was let down big time during lunch today. I specifically asked the young guy taking our order if a vegetarian dish I ordered had garlic & onion & was told it hadn't...... You guessed it my meal turned up complete with a bun stuffed with onions (who knows maybe even garlic)! It was busy but surely accommodating food intolerances is as basic as ABC for most restaurants? Lovely evening, nice aesthetics, plenty of parking, bustling but room for customers wanting food in the evening, the food was A+!! Lovely service, great atmosphere and reasonable prices. The tempura king prawn starter was delicious! The 'dragon burger' (a chicken burger with brioche bun and various accompanying fillings) was huge! Came with proper chips and a side (usually char grilled corn on the cob), we were able to change the side and make the burger to our own taste. Too full for pudding so can't comment on that, except to say there was a good selection. We also ordered chilled wine, which you can have in individual small bottles or a normal size bottle to share, depending on party size. The staff were happy to help us work out which was better for our pockets. Pets welcome and outside facilities for those wishing to eat outside. I noted a smoking area with shelter and heating also. I honestly can’t think of anything I didn't like. As I dont usually leave reviews, I thought I should, considering I'm a quite a picky madam. Nothing to complain about here and really enjoyable evening. Would recommend. Thank you.

Me and my boyfriend found this pub when searching for things to do and places to go whilst staying at the local Bridge Lake Farm. We booked for Wednesday to go mid week and break up our stay a little. What can I say? They had TARQUINS gin… as a Cornish girl this was wonderful to see! On our arrival we had a drink in the beer garden as we were 40 minutes earlier, the atmosphere was lovely both inside and out. At 17:50 we asked if we could sit at our table with our drinks, within 10 minutes we had ordered starters and mains. I had the salt and pepper squid and my boyfriend had the king prawns to start, for main I had the Dragon Burger and he had the George Burger… the food was OUTSTANDING, the wait was not too long and the staff were lovely and friendly. Would definitely recommend The George and Dragon … ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We`d just finished a Croughton circular walk, and needed "refreshment" afterwards. One of the locals said hello as we walked in. Staff were friendly, and there was Tribute, Wainwrights and Directors on tap. I went for the Directors, which was very good. The menu was on the wall, and was varied, lots of it homemade, and great value for money. Sadly, we`re quite a drive away, otherwise it would be become my local. Note to self: have a meal BEFORE going on Croughton circular walk.

Everyone enjoyed their meals and left feeling full. We felt extremely welcome and nothing was too much bother for them. Thank you for having us, we can’t wait to come back for a Sunday roast!

Good food and service. Women’s discussion group. We had coffee. A gap where we had our meeting then lunch which was delicious. Booked again for next month

This place does not deserve its entry in the Extra Mile. Waited quite a while for a simple baked potato and cheese. The cheese was minimal - a dusting - and too much butter. No side salad or any accompanying food to enjoy. Just under £10. The mark up is huge - effectively 50p to buy ingredients. I mentioned the lack of cheese and my disappointment. Met with lack of interest and no apology or reaction by three staff.
