Hadn’t visited this pub for a very long time. Was lovely to return, beautiful inside & a fab courtyard outside. The owners were extremely friendly & chatty. They couldn’t do enough for us. Lunch was amazing, food so good couldn’t fault it. So, very sad to hear the owners are moving on & the pub will be closing from this weekend. Such a loss to the village. We would definitely have returned if able to. We wish the family all the best for their next venture.

Very picturesque pub in a lovely little village. Very quiet when we went so we sat in the courtyard which was a great way to get out of the sun. Olive and bread starter was great, chips and onion rings were really good and the portions were huge! Chicken wings were a bit odd as they were battered. Staff were a bit busy watering plants and having lunch so took a while to get their attention but once we did they were really friendly

My husband and I were looking for a country pub after an afternoon out at Canons Ashby. We came across the Royal Oak in the pretty village of Eydon. It's a lovely pub with lots of little rooms decorated in a contemporary style, plus several outside seating areas. The owners were very welcoming and service excellent. We had a Sunday roast and the food was excellent - delicious and well cooked. My husband said it was the best meal he had had in a long time! There were quite a few locals in there which is a good measure of it's popularity. Even though its a fair way from where we live, we would return again. Would definitely recommend.

The Royal Oak at Eydon is a very characterful village pub. Unfortunately it was totally unprepared for a group of 8 people who had booked well in advance. The waitress did not seem to know the items on the menu either. There was a very limited mains menu, most of the party only had two choices. Although the staff did try to compensate for the lack of availability, their kindness did not outweigh the negatives. A few of us had to go with starter plus a side dish. The starter of mushrooms on toast with a side of chunky chips was delicious but the beetroot and goats cheese was very simple and the side salad disappointing. The burger options had no salad garnish and were nothing special. They didn't have 2 of our initial drinks choices, then only had 1 rhubarb gin left, Of the 4 choices on the main menu, our waitress dismissed the Slow-roasted Tomato and Basil Bake as "not my cup of tea" (that menu option would benefit from a more detailed description). There were only 2 portions of the chicken main available. When it came to sweet there were only 3 options and nothing tempted us, plus no Desarano for a coffee liqueur and no decaf coffee - just disappointing all round. The room was draughty too and one of our party was keen to have hot food but a salad was served with her main rather than the hot vegetables she requested. There were also mistakes with our drinks choices. On the positive side, our waitress clearly wanted us to be satisfied and tried to accommodate our requests. It's just a shame they weren't able to do that. However, we have since found out that the kitchen is about to be closed for refurbishment so that might explain why our experience on the night wasn't great. Fingers crossed things will be better in the future as it is potentially a great little village pub to visit.

Stopped for lunch with friends whilst in the area. Menu was pretty limited and several items not available. Club sandwich was very disappointing - was more like a BLT. Chicken burger was ok but chicken was very chewy. Interior was tired and in need of some TLC. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Based on the limited offering and the quality of the food, we wouldn’t go back.

Looked on line at the menu, which displayed a good amount of choices. Booked a table and attended at 8.00pm on a Saturday. Apart from two ladies in one of the side rooms the pub was completely empty. The menu had been reduced to FOUR starters, FOUR mains and THREE desserts. Being late in the evening, although disappointed with the lack of choices, we decided to make the most of the situation and ordered the Chicken meal. we waited longer than normal and eventually the meal turned up. The first piece of chicken was a bit tough but edible, after two pieces I tried a second piece but my knife wouldn't cut through it. The third piece was a darker colour, it was watery but didn't cut like chicken. We refused both meals, which I believe if I had consumed I would have been ill. We paid for the drinks and left. NB. On the menu the Sirloin Steak typed price of £20 had been overwritten with pen to £30. I had to put a rating of one star, although I would give it zero.

What could have been a disaster turned out to be an amazing experience. These guys went above and beyond to make our family of 12 some very happy walkers. So to set the scene, we arrived after a decent walk from Chipping Warden with some young kids on Christmas Eve. We had booked but there was a miscommunication of which day we were coming and they didn’t have a chef available due to a big party coming in later. So the owner a lovely lady stepped in and said she could make sandwiches for everyone, we thought that simple sandwiches would arrive but she made full on ham and cheese toasties with chips. We were all really impressed, and extremely grateful as it was a long walk back without food. There was a basic selection of beers but they had Doom bar and Neck Oil so we were happy. It turned out a lovely Christmas Eve surprise, so Thank you for going out of your way to accommodate us.

We last visited The Royal Oak some years ago. We enjoyed our visit then so were looking forward to our visit on the evening of 26/10/22. To our surprise we were greeted by a new landlady named Maddy. She was polite and charming introducing herself as we were shown to our pre-booked table. Hand pulled beers on offer were Timothy Taylors Landlord and Sharps Doom Bar. My wife and I selected Landlord and were not disappointed. Our Grandchildren were happy with their cokes' The menu that evening was fairly short, but we were happy with it. After starters I settled for Fish and chips and the rest of the family burgers. The food, beer and service were good the pub itself was really nice. We will go back. Our mains were equally impressive, we’ll cooked, with locally sourced produce when available. I had a really delicious haddock rarebit. Very flexible in exchanging chips for vegetables as well. Great choice of delicious desserts too! The service was friendly and efficient. We also appreciated the fine wine list, selected by SH Jones, a local vintner we rate. It also has a great feel. We visited last Sunday with friends. I have to say we were bowled over with the atmosphere, service, ambience and..oh yes...THE FOOD! WOW!! My choice was Roast Beef. I also..ahem..tried a bit of the pork loin on the bone too. We travel far and wide in search of the perfect Sunday lunch and it is now ON OUR DOORSTEP! Dismiss the older reviews, its all new there and boy they could not try any harder! My meal was outstanding in every way. Plenty of it, lots of trimmings and utterly mouth watering. So, I took a couple of mates there last night for an early mid week dinner. I had liver and bacon. Mmmmmm! Lush! The Royal Oak is a must visit, trust me. If you are in a rush, please don't be impatient for your food to be lovingly prepared in what has to be a pretty small kitchen in this ancient building. Prices are very reasonable and, I have to say, are too low for what you get for your money. Clearly a growing business that is set for stardom, mark my words. And, now I've probably fritzed it for myself. The last time I did such a glowing review for a Cotswold restaurant I couldn't get booked in! Hurrah for The Royal Oak! Pity there is only a maximum 5 stars below, you deserve all TENS!!

We visited The Royal Oak at Eydon on a rainy November night but came away delighted that they were back serving meals. They have the assistance of a very talented chef, as all our meals looked and tasted amazing. The liver and bacon served with bubble and squeak was extremely tender and lovingly presented. The duck cooked two ways was fantastic, very tender with a tasty jus and pretty finishing touches on the plate. Our diners choosing the blade of beef thoroughly enjoyed this dish and the pate starter was also a firm favourite. The Apple Tart Tatin with vanilla ice cream had a delicious honeycomb crumb and there were rave reviews about the homemade berry crumble with extra creamy vanilla custard too. We found that the friendly and efficient waiting staff made it an absolute pleasure to be there. We were particularly impressed by the fact that they had dairy free and gluten free menus ready for us and the chef was aware of the dietary requirements even before we ordered. It was a lovely atmosphere in the pub, very cosy with fresh flowers on the table, and helped by having several smaller rooms so it was busy but we weren't distracted by other diners in the way that we sometimes are in a larger room. Top class restaurant food with lots of interesting menu choices, reasonably priced for the high standard of food. We really enjoyed our evening and plan booking again very soon! 5 stars all round!

Enjoyed our meal here after walking from Byfield. Very friendly staff. Other half had pork medallions and I had beef roast. Very yummy and both came with Yorkshire puds. Ate in little room away from the bar, very characterful pub. Veg and potatoes a little underdone for my liking. Salted caramel tart for dessert was amazing! Good quality beer. Will return. Very dog friendly.

We were a party of 20 on the eve of our daughter's wedding. As we were a large party we pre ordered our meal and were served in a private room. We were made very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were all very friendly and efficient. Serving a room full of twenty people and getting the timing right takes good management. Our meal was generously portioned and really delicious.

Great pub, amazing food, and friendly staff! Everyone that works/goes here is super friendly and they also allow dogs which is a plus. Little terrace at the back of the pub for when it is slightly chilly + umbrella and tables out at the front too.

Great pub grub, located within easy reach of National Trust property Canons Ashby. Lovely staff, great with kids and an extra sausage with your mash if you ask nicely. Good selection of quality ales and locals dogs to provide entertainment....and big bowls of cashew nuts on the bar!

The Royal Oak was a big favourite a few years ago because of its great food, especially its Sunday Roasts but then it went off the boil after the Manager left. Under new management and with a new chef, it is very much on its way back again and it still offers a great selection of beers including Timothy Taylor's Landlord's Bitter. Food menu is a bit limited but they offer specials and the dishes are tasty and varied; it is well worth a visit as the staff are friendly and they offer good value for money

The young couple who run the pub have only been here since August and are doing an excellent job. Great food well presented and very good value. The meals we had were very imaginative with lots of flavour. We would go back again when in the area.

10/10 for food. 10/10 for service. 10/10 for a great atmosphere and cosy pub. The staff here are that generous that on both occasions that we have been, we have struggled to get a taxi and therefore they have given us a lift home. I highly recommend visiting this pub for some food and drinks.
