We came to the Royal Oak as a large group for a pre wedding celebration. The food was outstanding, great quality, amazing attention to detail, fresh, hot, tasty and big portions. Everyone enjoyed their meals and left feeling full. We felt extremely welcome and nothing was too much bother for them. Thank you for having us, we can’t wait to come back for a Sunday roast!

On a lovely autumn day we looked for somewhere different to have Sunday lunch out and The Royal Oak did not disappoint. The pub has been very sympathetically and stylishly refurbished. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food was just what we expected for a good, tasty meal out. The meat was good but the vegetables were all perfectly cooked. Not the usual mush that you get so many times these days. We certainly recommend this place.

I can't comment about the food because we didn't eat, but had a great time watching a local band playing outside. The bar was extremely busy so a bit of a wait to be served but the staff were helpful and friendly - and there was no way any more would have fit behind the bar anyway. It's a small village pub, and it's great to see the new landlord and landlady doing a great job. Wishing them the very best of luck, and hope they do well. The village has missed the pub, great to see it back.

Took my family to the Royal Oak just a month after it re-opened. Absolutely brilliant. Beautiful pub, delicious lunch, awesome service. The new owner / manager is full of ambition for the place - just what our village pubs need. Eydon's actually where my ancestors are from - it's such a lovely place and lunch at the Royal Oak just topped the day off perfectly. Highly recommend.

A catch up with family to a pub we had been to before. Under new management but still a pub with charm and a great atmosphere. Food was delicious. Had a few timing issues with the food but apologies given and compensated without us even questioning it. Service was excellent and it was a thoroughly pleasant place to be on a Saturday afternoon. We were well looked after and won’t hesitate to visit again. Thank you all at The Royal Oak, Eydon.

Absolutely first class, we were attending a near by wedding so stayed overnight at the royal Oak. Hospitality by Nathan, Gemma and their lovely family was second to none. Our room was immaculate with beautiful period features and tasteful décor. We also ate breakfast and dinner and the pub and it was faultless. I don't usually write reviews unless something is extremely poor or excellent. In this case excellent!! I will definitely return. I wish them every success with their new business

The pub seemed to have a buzz about it when we arrived but we soon realised that as guests we were completely anonymous. The level of service was non existent. No one came to take our order until we chased. Once taken, half of the items were unavailable. The food had obviously been sitting somewhere waiting for a waitress to clear our plates. The pizza was burnt and cold, the hake was well cooked but sat on an inedible jar like pasta sauce. No one asked if we wanted more drinks, dessert or coffee. The managers blamed the young girls serving us but they had not been trained and quite often all were huddling behind the bar without checking on us. My husband enjoyed his chicken burger but I’m afraid the rest of the evening was very disappointing. Had a customer of ours been so dissatisfied I might have at least offered a rebate on something but nothing was forthcoming.

Recently under new management The Royal Oak has reopened with a bang. Nathan & Gemma now run the joint, and have hired a top chef from another local pub that had a great reputation. My husband and I were looking for a country pub after an afternoon out at Canons Ashby. We came across the Royal Oak in the pretty village of Eydon. It's a lovely pub with lots of little rooms decorated in a contemporary style, plus several outside seating areas. The owners were very welcoming and service excellent. We had a Sunday roast and the food was excellent - delicious and well cooked. My husband said it was the best meal he had had in a long time! There were quite a few locals in there which is a good measure of it's popularity. Even though its a fair way from where we live, we would return again. Would definitely recommend.

The Royal Oak at Eydon is a very characterful village pub. Unfortunately it was totally unprepared for a group of 8 people who had booked well in advance. The waitress did not seem to know the items on the menu either. There was a very limited mains menu, most of the party only had two choices. Although the staff did try to compensate for the lack of availability, their kindness did not outweigh the negatives. A few of us had to go with starter plus a side dish. The starter of mushrooms on toast with a side of chunky chips was delicious but the beetroot and goats cheese was very simple and the side salad disappointing. The burger options had no salad garnish and were nothing special. They didn't have 2 of our initial drinks choices, then only had 1 rhubarb gin left, Of the 4 choices on the main menu, our waitress dismissed the Slow-roasted Tomato and Basil Bake as "not my cup of tea" (that menu option would benefit from a more detailed description). There were only 2 portions of the chicken main available. When it came to sweet there were only 3 options and nothing tempted us, plus no Desarano for a coffee liqueur and no decaf coffee - just disappointing all round. The room was draughty too and one of our party was keen to have hot food but a salad was served with her main rather than the hot vegetables she requested. There were also mistakes with our drinks choices. On the positive side, our waitress clearly wanted us to be satisfied and tried to accommodate our requests. It's just a shame they weren't able to do that. However, we have since found out that the kitchen is about to be closed for refurbishment so that might explain why our experience on the night wasn't great. Fingers crossed things will be better in the future as it is potentially a great little village pub to visit.

Looked on line at the menu, which displayed a good amount of choices. Booked a table and attended at 8.00pm on a Saturday. Apart from two ladies in one of the side rooms the pub was completely empty. The menu had been reduced to FOUR starters, FOUR mains and THREE desserts. Being late in the evening, although disappointed with the lack of choices, we decided to make the most of the situation and ordered the Chicken meal. we waited longer than normal and eventually the meal turned up. The first piece of chicken was a bit tough but edible, after two pieces I tried a second piece but my knife wouldn't cut through it. The third piece was a darker colour, it was watery but didn't cut like chicken. We refused both meals, which I believe if I had consumed I would have been ill. We paid for the drinks and left. NB. On the menu the Sirloin Steak typed price of £20 had been overwritten with pen to £30. I had to put a rating of one star, although I would give it zero.

What could have been a disaster turned out to be an amazing experience. These guys went above and beyond to make our family of 12 some very happy walkers. So to set the scene, we arrived after a decent walk from Chipping Warden with some young kids on Christmas Eve. We had booked but there was a miscommunication of which day we were coming and they didn’t have a chef available due to a big party coming in later. So the owner a lovely lady stepped in and said she could make sandwiches for everyone, we thought that simple sandwiches would arrive but she made full on ham and cheese toasties with chips. We were all really impressed, and extremely grateful as it was a long walk back without food. There was a basic selection of beers but they had Doom bar and Neck Oil so we were happy. It turned out a lovely Christmas Eve surprise, so Thank you for going out of your way to accommodate us.

My wife and I selected Landlord and were not disappointed. Our Grandchildren were happy with their cokes' The menu that evening was fairly short, but we were happy with it. As well as the nice food. I found the seats comfortable enough, liked the library book wall paper and log burner. Nice cosy place to visit on a grey January

Good food and service. Women’s discussion group. We had coffee. A gap where we had our meeting then lunch which was delicious. Booked again for next month

We`d just finished a Croughton circular walk, and needed "refreshment" afterwards. One of the locals said hello as we walked in. Staff were friendly, and there was Tribute, Wainwrights and Directors on tap. I went for the Directors, which was very good. The menu was on the wall, and was varied, lots of it homemade, and great value for money. Sadly, we`re quite a drive away, otherwise it would be become my local. Note to self: have a meal BEFORE going on Croughton circular walk.

Luckily, we ordered our Sunday lunch a couple of days ago when the table was booked. It's a very popular pub for food so you need to plan ahead or you could be a little disappointed as they sell out very quickly. Food, as always, was very good staff very friendly, we will use again.

Been several times over the last 12 months. Probably one breakfast was a bit lacking otherwise really good and great value. Atmosphere is 3 stars. Sometime it’s full of great people, but sometimes you get a number of pretentious people who feel they need the room to hear their opinions.
