I often meet my friend at The Gather and love to relax in the homely atmosphere. The staff are generally very lovely, apart from one female who is sadly quite abrupt and on my last visit was more attentive to a black labrador than to an elderly lady sitting on the sofa. When handed her toasted teacake, she requested a knife, only to be told that they were on the side. Clearly the cutlery is available there, but it would have been so easy to pass the customer a knife . It can be tricky for elderly customers to keep getting up and down from their seat. This female staff member was more eager to give the black labrador a biscuit. It would seem that canine customers get more attention. Please note that it is their humans who are paying. Customers without a dog should not be made to feel inferior. I would like to point out again that all other staff members are very lovely and I would hope they could have passed a knife to the elderly customer if asked. The rule of getting your own cutlery needs to be more flexible.

Last day in Cumbria with family and we decided to go here, this cafe stayed open with volunteers when our daughter in law did a walk around Emmerdale lake a few weeks back for Bone Cancer so thought we would support the cafe and go and visit them... The place is beautiful, it's decorated so pretty and visually it entices you in, we all had breakfast Inc granddaughter getting a fill of her beans on toast 😔 the menu isn't overly massive which I always find nice as too much temptation makes it hard to decide haha, this is a good accessible place as all ground floor, there is upstairs that you can hire (as that's where they put a spread on after our walk) there is a little shop as well that sells a variety of little gifts Inc woollen sheep (which are adorable) Glad we went and definitely go back

Hearty portions with good quality ingredients - I had a ploughman's style platter which included 2 cheeses, ham, salad, coleslaw crisps, 2 slices of sourdough bread. The pots of tea were lovely and hot. Latte and fruit scone and butter excellent too. Good value for money.

We was recommended this cafe via the visitors book in our accommodation. We visited for lunch and all had the paninis with a bowl of home made soup. The meal was incredibly nice and with generous portions too. We couldn’t resist the cakes so had some as a takeaway. Our dog was made to feel especially welcome and was given free biscuits, and a blanket to lie down on. We will hopefully revisit soon

We arrived early to Ennerdale Bridge on our Coast to Coast walk so we were lucky enough to spend time at The Gather. The drinks and desserts were excellent. But be sure to take a look around the cafe. They had an excellent book section featuring books set in the area. They also had more Coast 2 Coast souvenirs than we found once we got to Robin Hood’s Bay. All round great find.

The homemade cakes are the star attraction at the village café. A friend and I are quite frequent visitors. Sadly, on our last visit my friend asked for tea in one of their nice patterned china teapots and was told these nice teapots were reserved for "tea for two". How odd to find such a pedantic jobsworth attitude in a volunteer run, community café. C'mon Gather, treat your customers with some cheer! It might be worth noting that the café can be very noisy - dogs barking, the world's loudest coffee grinding machine, and cutlery clanking. So if you have issues with noise levels, this might not be the place for you (although, there is outdoors seating).

The overall impression of the cafe was good until we sat down, the table behind us has two dogs that smelt really bad so we had to move tables. Furthermore, the was about 6 young children under the age of 10 running around messing on empty tables and behind the counter. After saying this the food was nice and reasonably priced, staff very efficient and polite. If you want to go to a cafe with the feeling of being at a dog show with children out of control, this is the one for you

Seems to be run largely by volunteers, and seems to be a good focus for the local community, too. They take dogs, have free WiFi, and the cakes were outstanding. Due to lockdown restrictions, Truly Scrumptious has a delivery service, so this was ordered by phone, rather than a visit to the shop. Their cream tea selections are amazing! My sister ordered this for mother's day - and since we haven't seen her since October 2020, she treated me, too! Delivery was within a 2-hour time slot, and arrived in good time. Definitely recommended.

We came here for Sunday Lunch. It is advisable to book as I don't think they accept walk-ins. The roast dinner (I had chicken) was absolutely amazing, really good. Prices are very reasonable. Nice cosy village pub in the middle of nowhere - make sure you search it out.

I would highly recommend Moresby Hall. The owners were extremely accommodating and went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I am a wheelchair user so was concerned about the actual accessibility of this grade 1 listed building. However they exceeded our expectations, having a designated, very well thought out, accessible apartment on the ground floor with every possible aid needed. Not only that but it was beautiful and we very much enjoyed our stay. Jane and David the owners were very welcoming, approachable and friendly, and they even made a amendment to the front door as my chair caught on a part of it. Breakfast was really nice, having a great selection to choose from and hot food made to order. One of the best breakfasts I’ve had and it felt much better than the buffet style English breakfast. The weekend went by very fast and I’d have loved to stay longer. Would highly recommend this beautiful hall as you won’t be disappointed.

Lovely friendly independent cafe based in the church at Frizington. When we went we had booked because it gets packed out by local residents. My friend is local but I was visiting . We ordered tea for two and a lovely big pot with China cups and saucers arrived. More hot water to top up the pot no problem ! My friend had a delicious ( massive) omelette , salad and chips. I had the steak pie ( gorgeous gravy) , vegetables and again the wonderful home made chips ( best ever) . Crumbles or ginger cake with custard for dessert. I just loved the lively atmosphere . So great to see a place thriving in the north west lakes. A real hidden gem.
