Excellent breakfast, good quality tigar bread, and plenty of tea in the pot. Really friendly staff 10/10

Had an English breakfast and it was perfect 10 out of 10 staff where kind and helpful price was very good can't fault it will definitely come here again,just to add the breakfast was 8.95 with a tea and they refilled our tea pot so we had 4 brews each and there was still some left,it also came with Tiger bread and proper butter,the sausages where also decent well happy 😀

I was hoping to try out the Christmas Dinner at 'The Gate Cafe Bar and Deli on Sunday 1st December late afternoon, but upon arrival there was a lengthy queue to order. I asked a member of staff if the upstairs section was open and advised it was closed. The ground floor sections was full. I decided to go elsewhere.

Absolute gem of a place -got the nicest beef yorkie and roast potatoes twith a coffee all for £10-great home cooked food in a nice environment -as long as it stays reasonable and doesn’t jump on the bandwagon of over inflated prices ,this place will be here for years to come -plus only 2 mins from piece hall

Fantastic breakfasts, piping hot and the fried eggs were amazing. Staff were absolutely lovely and it was very reasonably priced.

Food was alright. Nice atmosphere. What put me off was the fact that I first received my coffee, a while later my main and after finishing my main I had to go ask for my desert I ordered, by the time I got my desert my coffee was lukewarm

Incredible staff with top customer service! We went on an evening for burgers and drinks after being massively let down by La Luna. We found the customer service second to none. All the staff are lovely and friendly and can’t do enough for you. They are clearly fantastic at their job and could run a busy sitting with no problems whatsoever. This is a relaxed and casual dining experience, with food reasonably priced. We will definitely be back for pre-concert nibbles and drinks!

My friend and I had an Afternoon Tea yesterday. We really enjoyed it; the bread was tasty and the sandwiches certainly had plenty of filling and were all delicious. The staff are always very accommodating, friendly and helpful...nothing too much trouble. We sat chatting for ages with no need or desire to rush elsewhere. Highly recpmmended.

Called for lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon. We hadn’t booked but there was a choice of tables, just in time though as it soon filled up. Our first visit but clearly it’s very popular. There’s an extensive menu and I opted for halloumi in chiabatta bread and my daughter chose a jacket potato with tuna and cheese. We were both impressed with the taste and size of our portions. We were too full to try a cake, but maybe next time. The staff are friendly and efficient despite it being very busy. Will definitely visit again.

Popped in with family at short notice and needed a table for 5 people , absolutely no problem and very accommodating. Staff were amazing and food was truly delicious. Meals included a variety of pies, sandwiches and vegan food, everyone said the same how lovely the meals were. Will definitely go back and highly recommend.

Stylish interior and a brilliant menu. Staff who served us seemed nice as well. Average prices I would say. It was really pleasing to see so many vegetarian and vegan food options on the menu as well. The cakes we had were superb and they sell some very different drinks as well. Would have given them a 5 star rating but it was very smoky and smog filled inside due to all of the cooking and grilling going on. Better ventilation and extraction is needed to improve the air quality because sometimes it got to the back of your throat and it stifled the atmosphere. If they sort this out then it will be 5/5 all day long.

Food was lovely and highly recommend but found the cleanliness of the cafe very poor. Staff were very rude and miserable.

Nice cafe with friendly staff. Clean and tidy. Food is basic but done well. Jacket potatoes ard huge and you get two fillings and salad for the price. Alcoholic beverages also available. Lots of cakes including gluten free. No fancy avo and sourdough but fine if you just want plain tasty food

Not a bad little cafe, and was certainly the nicest looking one in the area, unfortunately the service was pretty poor. It would've been nice to receive our drinks whilst we were waiting for our food, but they took 20mins to arrive, and our food came apx 10mins later. The cappuccinos were luke warm when we received them, and we weren't even given spoons in case we wanted to add sugar or sweeteners. No sauces were offered with our food and the attitude of the young girl who served us was pretty bad to say the least. Will not be visiting this place again.

Went in here a while ago. Written on the door in chalk was Carrot and coriander soup at £5.95. I make a lot of soups and love a good home made one and at that price thought it would be really nice. What came was a bowl of red soup, I said to the waitress that it looked like tomato soup and I had wanted carrot and coriander, she looked at me blank and asked why I would think it was that. I replied saying it was advertised on the door. She went and asked and told me they had some and I asked if it was tinned saying the soup I had in front of me looked tinned. I was told it was heinz!!! Wow £5.95 for a tin of soup. Come on guys, if you want to make it in this game you have to make an effort.

First time visiting today with my family found everything to be very nice staff very friendly and helpful

Had breakfast , sausage sandwich there today , took ages to come was offered another coffee but never received it , very poor service staff too busy chatting with each other .

Lovely staff and decent quality food, my only issue is that it was very clearly layered and half of the dish had all the filling, but my partner and I waited roughly half an hour for two sandwiches at 1.30pm on a Monday. Prices are slightly above average but nothing massively extortionate

£9.50 for Bacon Cheese Burger. It came on a stale bun, a shrivelled bit of cheese, and half a chewy bacon rasher! On top of that I have had stomach cramps and cannot go far from the bathroom for the past 18 hours since I ate it. I would not recommend this place, I don’t believe it is hygienic.

Stopped here before the madness gig at Piece Hall. Perfectly cooked burger and wedges for £7! 3 beers for £9. You will struggle to find better quality or value in a city centre. Highly recommend and I will certainly visit again.

Don't normally eat here but the cafe I frequent was closed. They had a Lovely selection of food liked how I could choose the bread. It was very busy so had to wait a long time for order to arrive which isn't a problem (it's good to see a family run business this busy on a monday) although drinks arrived quickly so were almost gone/cold by the time food came. Found the gourmet sandwiches pricey, and the filling was scarce, the coleslaw was runny and could do with more carrots ect, so didn't look appetising. The staff were friendly, attentive and it was clean with a good atmosphere. It was my first visit and I would visit again just not for gourmet sandwiches.

Glad I didn't read the reviews prior to my visit, or I wouldn't have gone! It was nothing special and was quite expensive. A jacket potato and filling was just short of £7, so for a jacket for me and my wife and a couple of bottles of water, it was around £17. Other options are available in the locality for a similar price, but much better quality.

Terrible small breakfast under cooked sausage egg raw ,baguette tasted doughy not good.

Not too bad possibly a tad over priced and the bread wasn't fresh as I'd of liked. Tomatoes were a little over priced. Sausages were good quality also was the bacon. I had a latte and it was pretty average. After we had finished breakfast we were going to get some take out cake waited a minute or so without being served so left without the cake. Would I go back ? Yes I'd have toast instead of bread. And defo want to try the cake.

Lovely food I just feel they need a new extraction fan to purify the air somewhat as all my clothes smell of food when I got home

I ordered a toasted cheese sandwich and after a 15 minute wait it arrived not toasted so I asked for it to be toasted. No apology from the waitress. When the sandwich returned it had clearly just been stuck under a grill, the lettuce was completely soggy and the cheese barely melted. I didn’t want to complain as I was out with a friend and felt it had spoilt our meet up enough already. I have noticed over my last couple of visits that this cafe is nowhere near as friendly or efficient as when it first opened and I will not be returning.

Wiped table down without antibacterial spray, hair in one dish, two very disappointing and one enjoyed.

Wasn't particularly welcomed on arrival as I had a coffee cup from elsewhere. Ordered a beef and onion gravy sandwich and was given a beef sandwich with caramelised onion chutney. Not as described and not very pleasant either.

Thought I was going to get a nice artisan tuna mayo on ciabatta to takeaway for my lunch. £4 For a piece of ciabatta with tuna mayo inside. No salad or anything. Not real butter tasted like cheap margarine, tuna mayo also tasted cheap. So basic and overpriced for what I thought was somewhere more artisan than the local competition. Not impressed, walked in with my little one. No one acknowledged us for a good while. The place wasn't busy and staff had seen us. Voted with my feet and walked out.

Ordered a simple lunch, jacket potato with cole slaw and a caramel slice. After a 15 minute wait the waitress brought the caramel slice. She had the most horrendously long bright pink false nails that are inappropriate in a food establishment. What germs they were holding God only knows! Potato followed 10 minutes later along with a very limp side salad. Very disappointing but the nails did it for me!

Ordered drinks and went and sat outside, got so excited when I saw cheese and onion pie on the board. NOT Cheese and onion pie! It was a cheesy mash in pasty very disappointed. Still alot of other folks like it

Came here few months a go and had afternoon tea for my dad's 75th birthday. What a lovely selection of things. Everything was so nice too. Some of the cakes were the best I ever had. Been back once since and had breakfast and again was so nice I certainly will be back again some time. Good service and lovely food.

Early bird coffee as I was driving by. Quick service and good spaces and chairs inside. Adequate spacing for cov8d conscious people.

Very fresh sanwiches and warm lunch type snacks.Nice selection of fillings and different types of bread.Tea comes in a proper pot and coffees are also v.good..Cold drinks and some confectionery available.Plenty of very comfortable seating and tables upstairs as well as down.A place where friends like to meet.

What a lovely afternoon we had at The Gate - Café Bar & Deli for Mother’s Day. We had the Deluxe Afternoon Tea with Prosecco of course 😉 and it was amazing. The food was so nice and the staff were very welcoming. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Thankyou Ben and your Team for an amazing Afternoon Tea, My Mum, Gran, & Sister loved it. Called in here for lunch and enjoyed lovely sandwiches,paninis and homemade chicken soup. Lovely coffee and pots of tea. Only a stroll from the town centre and peace hall. Will beback when next in the area.

I went for the deluxe afternoon tea and it couldnt have been any better. The food was DELICIOUS and the staff were incredibly friendly. We felt like royalty when the staff brought our food out. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

I visited The Gate with my wife, children and parents. The food was good, however the service from one member of staff was terrible. They had forgot two drinks and when politely asked about them she snapped back "the waitress only has one pair of hands". When challenged by her attitude she became abusive and very aggressive. We asked to speak to the manager to which she claimed she was the manager, which was not true. She then did not bring one meal and when asked argued that it wasn't ordered, and then realised it was. She may be better suited to working on the doors of a nightclub on down the local pit. The quality of the food was not enough to overcome such such a poor service.

I went last week on a weekday afternoon. Really nice falafel baguette. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Will go again!

After having a really stressful day with my 1 year old on my own not finding anywhere to eat I found this place and the lady who served me was so lovely! the food was beautiful and the lady turned my day right around I was feeling really anxious and she just made me feel calm, definitely will be going again!

Poor customer service. Visited for lunch today with my elderly mum (who has been out 3 times since March due to self-isolating). She went to toilet and there was no hand towel. She politely told a member of staff who was extremely abrupt and rude. The staff member replied to my mum ‘well I cant sort that now...theres only 3 of us in and theres meant to be 6...it will have to wait’. Clearly they were rushed that day but she was very rude in her response. She only wanted to dry her hands! Cleanliness was not good due to understaffing. Will not return.

Stopped in “on spec” for a quick lunch during a visit to Halifax. This café is nice and light with a good choice of eating options. The girls serving were pleasant and efficient. The food is well priced and nicely presented. They also have a good selection of wine to purchase if you’d like to.

Very nice and helpful staff. Will happily amend the menu to provide vegan options which is good. Food always nice. Sometimes a bit busy. The shop downstairs is great for deli items and specialist alcohol. Good for gift shopping.

Super food and great value. Modern menu with a great atmosphere. Also has some nice little gifts for people to by.

We went to a film show about Aliens on the moon. It was a very interesting evening. The venue was excellent, the coffee delicious and the staff were lovely and friendly.
