The Galley in Moray

Went last night and ordered large haddock supper single scampi two chips cheese curry sauce. Also a pickled onion. Waiting in queue the portions of food looked great getting boxed up for customers. Number 26 was called and we happily headed off to enjoy. Disaster! One not very large Haddock Supper! NO Scampi...another small single fish? NO pickled onion but a gherkin! Where did you guys get it wrong? Did you not understand Scottish? Or is it just another case of ripping off the tourist?

Not impressed. Hadn’t been for several months and won’t be going again. I don’t mind paying good money for decent food but £24.95 for two fish suppers , two mushy peas and a bag - the batter was soggy, the fish dry, the peas luke warm and the chips- far less than previously and v small compared to an average chip bag. With the extra 20 minutes in the car to Fochabers Fish Bar where you will get a decent price of haddock ( you’ll even know which boat caught it) and the chips made on site,freshly cooked ( you’ll know which variety of spuds they are).

Excellent fresh fish and chips reasonably priced. Friendly staff with chip shop nice and clean. Food nicely served in box with fish and chips in seperate compartment. Overall great eating experience.

We love Lossiemouth. Lovely town with a fantastic sandy beach area. We have now found another reason to visit Lossiemouth, Galley Fish and Chip shop. We live in inverness and we need a fish and chip shop like this. The shop provides choice of batter or breadcrumb fish, I had breadcrumb haddock which was superbly cooked and with a portion of amazing chips. The Mrs had super sausage which was better than most. Fancy a trip to Lossiemouth then it’s a must.

Who doesn't love fresh fish & chips? Well The Galley doesn't disappoint! Superb take away freshly cooked and wrapped in individuals boxes to eat straight away or transport away! The staff though busy are friendly and waiting time is limited, though I'd def ring ahead and order as you arrive they will cook it straight away while you wait... so its nice and fresh and very hot! The only feedback I'd give is update your prices on your website to reflect your current prices. And make sure your staff now current pricing too! I made a telephone order and was informed a fish supper was £7.20 and when i got there to collect and pay I was charged £8.70 which is quite a jump from the time I made the call to driving to collect it!!!!! Other than that if you're in Lossiemouth I'd definitely recommend you go and enjoy a fish supper from The Galley.

Very polite staff and evident good team work behind the counter. Great choice of food and always cooked to perfection. The owners "Chip King & Queen" run a fantastic business to be proud of and are a credit to the town. Well done team Galley.

The fish is really small and a thin piece. I can’t believe that being right on the coast this is the quality of the fish. It’s not meaty or flaky, it’s just a really poor small piece of fish. The chips were super crispy and not like “chip shop chips” at all. This is the second time I’ve been as I wanted to give them a second chance, but thoroughly disappointed again.

This is the chip shop in Lossiemouth we always go to. However we were really disappointed with our meal. We got a chicken fillet meal along with other meals. The chicken fillets are clearly frozen. I just feel if you can dip fish in a fresh crispy batter why would you not do the same for your chicken fillets? Frozen dry small fillets was really disappointed. Certainly won’t order these again!!!

I’ve reviewed this business in the past and to be honest, I’ve always been a fan of it. Recently though, they seemed to have upped their game even more. By far the best ‘Chippy’ that Lossiemouth has to offer (by a long way)! The staff are always friendly and there is a constant queue of customers whenever I pass (busy = good). The prices are reasonable, given the current climate, with an accommodating menu suitable for all walks of life. Nothing too complicated, just honest, simple takeaway food. I tend to opt for the same thing, a ‘Battered Hamburger (Supper)’. I can’t fault it - the meal always comes with a generous portion of ‘Chips’. A special mention to the ‘Curry Sauce’ as well - tried it for the first time last week and I’ll certainly by doing so again. I genuinely hope this business survives in what is a tough time for us all. An asset to the town - the owners should be proud! Highly recommended!

Fresh fish and chips served for 9 of us with huge pots of curry sauce, gravy and peas! Deliciously cooked fish, batter was perfect! Chips 10/10 and reasonably priced given the location. Would 100% visit again if we returned to the area!

Reading previous reviews… We ordered fish supper, sausage and peas on Saturday evening. We were told it was cooked to order; being extremely hungry we were happy to wait. Disappointingly it did not taste fresh, tasting like it had been warmed up in the microwave. They certainly weren’t crispy. The chips were also cold and the peas were no better. They were so soggy we couldn’t eat them so we all went to bed hungry. The dog didn’t eat them either!!

Went for a takeout tonight and it was extremely busy but they have a very good set up and our supper’s were ready when they said although I would have easy waited longer, We’ll. Be back soon

decided to try this place while up visiting Lossiemouth and the surrounding areas, it was a great bite. it was on the pricier side but with inflation currently, everything has been. the fish was lovely and fresh, really amazing and no bones. chips weren’t as good but they were tasty enough, curry sauce was the usual chip shop curry sauce. would definitely return if i was in the area!

Family visited there last week and encountered a lengthy queue. One of the family is diabetic and needed to eat asap. This was explained to the very helpful assistant by my niece. All they really wanted was to get something quick and easy to avoid upsetting the others in the queue, but the assistant very kindly insisted on taking my niece to the counter and taking her full order, this was supplied without delay. Fantastic service and fabulous food. Thank you so much for being so considerate.

They burnt my scampi, but sold it anyway! Fish was good. Chips reasonable. Will probably give them another try

Do not know where the previous reviewers were eating but this place is vile. Frozen chips, mainly batter on fish and chips (can't find the fish for batter). All delivered food is sent via taxi, who goes and gets taxi fares before delivering, the food it freezing by the time it arrives. Complained to manager who was rude and gave me a refund on CHIPS ONLY!! Raging. Bad food, bad customer service

Brilliant Take Away fish and chips. Staff were super friendly and looked like a great team. Fish and chips were a good size portion and tasted quality. Not dripping in oil. Would definitely recommend if your looking for a good chippie tea.

The owner and his staff at this fish and chip shop could not have been nicer. They were busy cleaning the place from top to bottom. We had fish suppers and the famous east coast ‘mealie pudding’ suppers. Everybody agreed that our food was amazing... hot, fresh and tasty.Try the Galley....you’ll be glad you did....

Went here to grab some chips. Classic menu and dishes with free sauces as expected ( this isn’t the case everywhere ) . Food came quickly from a great mother and daughters team. Chips great, warm and not too oily. The shop is nicely presented and clean, nearby to benches by the see.

We have been customers of the Galley for years. This week we got 1 fish supper, 1 single fish and 1 portion onion rings £15.90. Both haddock were smal,l thin and tasteless. Batter thin and soggy. Onion rings were soggy too and appeared to be bought in frozen ones. The chips were excellent. I do not think we will return - poor quality and overpriced - what a pity.

This is by far the cleanest chip shop I have ever patronised. It is spotless and the fish suppers were fantastic. It scores 11 out of 10.

We enjoyed the best fish and chips ever last weekend, which we ate down by the harbour. Perfect! Then we went for ice-cream to complete our night out. :-))

We have visited twice now. Both times disappointing. The first time offered a very small piece of haddock ( a child would have gone home hungry ). Returned yesterday with a friend who had driven eight and a half hours to visit us. His beef and onion pie was burnt and quite clearly not fresh. He left most of it. My haddock was a biscuit. I am on a diet and hadn’t had breakfast or lunch.I could not separate the batter, it had adhered to the minuscule fillet. I have never had such a pathetic and mean portion in my life, the batter was twice the thickness of the fish. Visited twice and NEVER again. Simply disgusting.

I'm a big fan of 'The Galley' - we rarely treat ourselves to a 'Friday Chippy' but decided otherwise on this occasion. We phoned for a collection and as stated, our order was ready at 6.30pm and handed over by a friendly employee.The food itself was delicious - my wife opted for the 'Haddock & Chips' - a large portion and very well cooked. I went for a 'Jumbo Sausage & Chips' with an extra 'Jumbo Sausage', both battered of course! Again, thoroughly enjoyed. Absolutely no complaints with anything other than, for the third time in a row, we 'almost' got what we ordered.I really try not to dwell on things like this but it's just annoying. My wife clearly stated over the phone what 'Sauces' etc we wanted - however, all of our orders were wrong in some way. With it being the third occasion now, it's hard not to have a little moan. It's not enough to put us off going back though - we are very much hopeful that it will be fourth time lucky next time round.

The Galley was recommended by our hotel in Elgin. I arrived and was greeted by the serving staff who were very friendly and we had a good laugh as my food was prepared. Food was served very hot and in a great box nicely presented.Beautiful white fresh fish in very crispy batter was as good as expected but my expectations were exceeded when I ate the chips. Never before have I had such crispy and tasty chips from a chip shop.If you've not been then I strongly recommend that you add it to your bucket list or even better, get yourself down there as soon as you can. Based on my experience, you won't be disappointed. I will definitely be back.

Amazing fish and chips and excellent service from the Staff. The batter was crispy and the fish was still perfectly cooked. The chips had a nice crunch to them and the portion size was more than enough.

Great fish and chips (especially the chips!) Lovely crispy batter, moist fish, would recommend. Went round to old sea town to watch the seabirds and herons on the east beach. Grand.

A small treat during lockdown that left us sadly disappointed. Every supper had rock hard chips, that tasted a bit old, and the fish was pretty thin. Didn’t live up to the freshly made tag. Appreciate it being open but will probably give it a miss in the future.

This is a very good chip shop, selling great chips and lots of other items and all fairly priced. I shop here regularly.

Good selection of takeaway food. Excellent haddock and chips.... hot, crispy batter and non greasy chips. Fresh whole tail juicy scampi were delicious. Highly recommend

The Galley is our favourite chippy, and we are quite happy to make the journey from kinloss to lossiemouth for our chippy tea. The food is always cooked to order, so is always fresh and piping hot. The owners and their team are fantastic,the staff are always polite and friendly, and the place is always clean and tidy.We had a problem with our food before,which was totally no fault of theirs, it was due to the quality of the tatties, but it was quickly rectified. I would rather go without my chippy tea than go anywhere else!!

Was recommended by friends and unfortunately will not visit again. 1. Overcharged me for a double burger and it came with no source and a pathetic salad.2. Batter on the burger was not fully cooked and was not very nice. Tasted very gloopy. 3 chips were overcooked.I appreciate I came in 30 minutes before closing but you said it would not be a problem and took my money. Really disappointed!!

Visited last night ... I commented to the staff how clean the premises was . Had two meals for myself and my son ! All food was perfect .. well worth the visit from Elgin will defiantly be back

Just a quiet Saturday early meal for the grandchildren. Walked up to Galley and placed order. 40min later I left with three meals. Ridiculous wait. Meals themselves are good and well priced

Can’t say we are regular customers, but we go here about once every 3 months. Staff are always very pleasant and there is a good selection to choose from. The last time we had a supper from there we both thought it wasn’t as good as before. Batter on fish rock hard and fish very dry as if it had been lying in the cabinet a good while. As everything is supposed to be cook fresh, this was a surprise. Had our family visiting for a couple of days and we ordered a carry out. Again staff were superb, can’t be faulted, but the meal was fairly poor. Chips were one lump all stuck together and tasted very oily. One fish was very thin, being an ex fisherman I understand that at a certain time of the year haddock can be very lean, so this fish must have been frozen for at least 5 months. The batter on this fish was twice as thick as the fillet, and very soggy. Totally inedible.The batter on the spicy haggis was so rubbery that it could hardly be cut through, never mind chewed and the mock chop was burnt in places. The other 2 meals were ok, apart from the lump of chips. This place used to be so good, but I suppose with all the passing trade at this time of the year, if you don’t go back, who really cares. There are plenty other people that will.Such a shame they have let their standards drop so far

We come from Elgin to get our fish and chips from here usually phone order before coming down great service and lovely selection of choice and all made to order and great to take your chips to the beach and watch the world go by

We stopped here because of the reviews. The chippie could not be faulted. Spotless, good food and a good price. A great local chip shop worth that visit before you take your chips to the beach.

The service from the 3 immaculately attired young ladies was exemplary. My order was taken with precision and I watched as my order was freshly prepared. The hygiene of the whole procedure was really very good. I was advised as to how the order was progressing and also when it was ready. Each 'supper' was individually packed and wrapped to make sure that the fish was not broken. The whole was a culinary delight - beautiful fresh fish - I could not check if it had come from Lossiemouth but wherever it had come from was a real delight. chips just right but probably too many for my usual appetite but I did them justice. Mushy peas were a pleasure and the cost was not over the top.

We had fish and chips here one evening as we travelled back to Elgin and were really impressed. The fish was breaded and white and lovely and crispy and the chips were equally crispy but best of all were the lovely staff who brought the outside table to the sunny front of the shop for us to eat at - altogether a great find

Had a takeaway tonight was the best fish and chips I have had and the service is so prompt . Thankyou Galley to all the staff .

Phoned an order in tonight. Batter on white pudding and red pudding was inedible couldnt even cut through it with a knife and trying to chew it was impossible. Called to complain, overheard the member of staff on the phone say "that's them on the phone again complaining about the batter this time" as had called earlier about them forgetting the kids pack with juice and sweetie in it (very fussy toddler who loves this part of a chippy) offered a replacement, but just the puddings not chips. Didnt fancy cold chips with replacement puddings. Also bill was added up wrong and we were overcharged. Disappointed galley usually your food and customer service are alot better than this!!

Have been using this chippy for a while now and have never had a bad meal. Freshly cooked, can phone and order to save waiting and it always tastes amazing.

Love this place, fresh food cooked fresh. Can’t beat it. I hate the other chippy in Lossiemouth they reheat part cooked food you would think it wasn’t allowed

Returned from a weekend away and, having not eaten for about 9 hours, was starving. Really fancied fish and chips. Haddock was ok, but the chips were dreadful, dried out as though they'd been under a food warmer for hours, which I think they had. A chip shop is judged on their chips, to not serve fresh ones is not good! It was late-ish on a Sunday, but this should not be an excuse. I will try them once more, and hope that this was a one-off; other reviews seem to be really positive.

Love our chips from here. Especially on a lovely evening we stroll down towards the beach and enjoy them on a bench. Fab kids meal deal. Always spot on and never had a bad meal.

My better half and I were up in this neck of the woods to attend a sporting event, so glad I looked on TripAdvisor before choosing somewhere for fish and chips, we bothe got the haddock and chips, the fish was cooked to perfection in an amazingly crisp batter, one of the very best chipped I've had.....and I've had a few !

Absolutely delicious fish and chips - the batter was lovely and light and not greasy at all. Black pudding and curry sauce were pretty good too.

I disagree with the negative comments. The fresh fish was cooked to perfection and the chips were not soggy or hard. The serving of chips was excessive for the grandchildren.

Visiting Lossiemouth with my wife and decided to give this place 2nd chance. Week ago had a king rib supper that had brick hard batter that felt like it was cooked day before. Tonight my wife had fisher supper that was well over cooked and batter very hard and tasted like oil was well due a change. See photo of what I would describe as an extremely bad fish supper. They are not cheap so a much higher standard is expected. Come from Oz and visiting Lossiemouth relative a decent fish super should be on cards. After two bad experiences will be giving this place a miss during rest of stay. Welcome contact if owner wants to provide refund for both suppers - but they won't. They get enough passing business not to care about bad reviews. So do yourself and stomach a favour and pass on by.Photo shows a big crispy hard bubble one end and over cooked other end - so poor !!!!!!

Just had pie and chips twice and children’s chicken nuggets and chips and two curry sauce.

Large menu with local sourced produce ,Butchers Burger and the local fresh haddock in crispy batter sitting on the prom 2minutes away just heaven.

Lovely freshly cooked fish and chips. A fish supper just as you would want it. Top marks. Don't go anywhere else.

Closes at 21.30 yet when I called at 9pm to order ahead for collection they refused to serve and said they were shut. I know if they are busy they can sometimes close early but that is not what I was told on the phone - only that they were closing. Crap ubreliable customer service. No point having an advertised closing time if you do what you want anyway. Living in the dark ages clearly! Would give ZERO stars if it would let me.

Had our tea from here fish was seriously over cooked could of took it down to the sea and surfed . Pie could of been used as a hockey puck, chips where very good though it. Come on pull your socks up, I hate the fact a van comes to town and takes trade from local businesses but can't blame people for going if this is what's being served sorry.

After reading reviews we decided to give it a try and were definitely not disappointed!! The fish was huge and cooked to perfection. We would definitely return when back on holiday again. The portions were huge and great value for money.

Just arrived home from holiday and was hungry so went straight down to the galley and ordered fish and chips o me it was really good to taste haddock again after being abroad for holidays keep up the good work galley Donald and Roselyn

What can I say about the galley....consistently good food, always hot,always fresh. Polite,friendly staff and the place is always spotless. We always look forward to our weekly treat here!

Visitamos Lossiemouth y decidimos que tendríamos que probar pescado y patatas fritas. Mi marido tomó el pescado y dijo que era excelente. Cogí el pasteles de pescado y que también eran buenas. Las patatas fritas eran también buena y sabrosa. El personal era muy agradable.

Tenía pescado y patatas fritas de la Galera el sábado por la noche. . . . delicioso. Tuvimos que esperar un poco, pero vale la pena ya que estaban recién preparado y caliente.

Después de recibir nuestra entrega que abrimos para encontrar el rollo de perro caliente era moho y no un poco que no te aviso, pero todo el piso era absolutamente repugnante! Llamé para avisar ofreció enviar otra, pero les dijimos que no queríamos ni siquiera una disculpa o reembolsará solo que el resto de los rollos! Después de ser un habitual aquí no volveré! Muy decepcionado!

Muy concurrida, con pescado preparado encantador y patatas fritas. Cerca de la orilla del mar, tan estupendo para sentarse y observar los pájaros mientras tomaba su cena. Era una noche muy hermosa.

Great haddock, cooked to order in breadcrumbs and a generous portion of chips. Disappointed that the 'Specials Board' has disappeared since last year, as it featured some outstanding offers including fresh cod. Returning to the haddock on offer - it was very tasty and cooked with precision by a lady who cares.The bad news - The scampi was the rather dull 'factory' produced version. It's a real pity you cannot get fresh scampi tails battered in any of the Lossie chippies.Staff are friendly and feature some of the largest false eyelashes to be seen in Moray - something you don't see in the Fochabers Fish Bar.

Happened to be in Lossie around lunch time on a Friday end of Feb so had to go for a cod supper Again was beautifully cooked & crispy, I can't recommend it enough, like every visit we make. Chips were to die for, overall a very happy customer.The wife went for a single Smoky in batter whilst nicking the odd chip from my supper. Hmmmm....No.1 in Moray in our eyes. Will be back soon. I'll keep it brief, probably the best fish supper I've ever had, fresh haddock, perfectly crisp batter, absolutely outstanding! Can't wait to go back.

Stopped in for tea having forgotten they recently changed hands. The staff were keeping busy cleaning behind the counter whilst a couple of customers waited for their order. I was served by a very pleasant young man who chatted away. Whilst cooking my fish it had folded over and affected the presentation, the young lad got his supervisor to check it and he discussed how he was unhappy with it and would I be happy to wait for another. These guys obviously care about what they serve. The fish was delicious, white and fluffy (haddock) the batter was perfect, crisp and the right thickness. Not at all greasy. The chips were really tasty, new potatoes cooked in proper beef dripping. I will definitely go again. Efficient , clean and great food.

Great quality fresh food, at a decent price. I had the chicken fillets which were tender and juicy, amazing chips and a lovely fresh salad with the tastiest coleslaw! Everyone was very happy with their suppers. Thank you - will recommend and definitely return!

Lossiemouth' best chip shop by a mile. The haddock could not be fresher and the chips are top notch. The menu is very Scottish so if you enjoy your haggis battered and deep fried this is the place for you! But, if not, there are plenty of other tasty options. Sitting alongside the estuary of the River Lossie eating your fish supper as the evening sunlight glints on the incoming North Sea waves is a truly life-affirming experience.

We were in Lossiemouth for one night on Tuesday, 25th October and I had already been on here to find out about local eateries and I read the reviews about The Galley. As the weather was being very kind to us we decided to find this little establishment and we weren't disappointed. Friendly service, crispy batter and the best haddock ever. Made even more perfect by the fact we sat down by the beach and ate them out of the box.

A quality fish and chip shop that is my 'go to' chip shop in the area. I always have a Fish Supper but very rarely finish the whole thing; the portions are great! Top this off with friendly staff and you will not be disappointed.

My family and I stayed in a nearby caravan park for 10 nights late summer, and used this chippy 3 times whilst we were up there.Food was always freshly cooked and I always had the fish supper. which was far better than anything I have had in my local London chippy.Will deffo use this plaice again if in the area.Only gripe was the mushy peas, 2 out of 3 times they were dried and almost inedible

We went to The Galley on the recommendation of others on tripadvisor. We both had fish and chips - the chips were superb, nice and crispy. The fish was lovely and fresh and cooked to perfection (not overcooked), however the batter was not crispy and too thick which is why it was soggy.As expected we waited for it to cook in the busy shop, and the oil was drained off so not fatty. .

Always consistent In presentation and quality and great value for money. Easy to find. Sometimes a bit busy but that's a good sign and worth the wait.

A must visit - best Fish & Chips ever... A couple of locals mentioned this was worth a visit, how correct they were. All very fresh, wandered along to the Esplanade area and devoured as the sun went down. Superb !
