The Galley in Waveney

If I had of read these reviews before we went to Lowestoft we certainly wouldn't of chosen to eat here. Not sure they know what they are doing. We queued for 10 minutes which I know isn't that long but that was just to reach the front of the queue to put our order in as they have nothing cooked. so ordered the food & had to wait. We were in a hurry & only waited a quick sausage & chips. after waiting 15 minutes for the food & having seen people that came in after us get there food before us my wife approached the counter & asked what the hold up was, the girl was very abrupt saying I don't know I didn't serve you. we just wanted to get our food so we could get going. My wife said can we just take a normal sausage & 2 small battered to get us served & on our way. She had to ask permission & was not overly happy about it. so ruse, poor service & food not great either = Steer well clear

Very rude staff. I wish my partner and I read reviews before we went there. Such an awful experience, was stared at very sharply by a staff and we did not even know what caused her to act rude to us, all we did was to order food, and also informed them that some of the condiments on the table had bugs. We were polite all throughout, so no idea why that staff treated us with so much anger. To be fair, their fish and chips was actually good, although I couldn’t stand staying in there longer to finish it so we just left.

Chips were hard, cold & tasted of dirty fat & cost &3 !! Had better at a greasy spoon , even the dog turned her nose up at them

We called in for chips en route to pier. The only chip shop I have been in where they warm up all the order in the microwave including cheesy chips!? All the chips were hard and tasteless as was the totally melted welded cheese and battered sausages. We will definitely not be calling here again. We were the only people in the shop so not even an excuse they were busy, no food ready cooked in the display warmers - absolutely disappointed and couldn’t even be polite when we left, no please or thank you. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Absolutely awful service! I have been going to this fish and chip shop on holiday for years. It used to be a firm family favourite. The last time we were there we noticed a decline in standard and service but put it down to being a rough year and people being under pressure. Turns out we were wrong. We had driven all day with awful traffic and checked the opening times online on the way. It was mid afternoon and opening times said it had hours to go. Arrived, sat everyone down (including two small children) and chose meals- staff clearly saw this. I queued at the till to order with three customers in front of me and when I got to the till the lady told me I couldn't order because she was stopping service. I politely challenged it and asked why and she started to get defensive immediately and was really rude. She said they were closing early and she was stopping service. This was not advertised anywhere and I pointed that out but she didn't care. She got progressively more and more rude when speaking to me. I explained that I didn't feel it was fair and I had a child who was really hungry and hadn't eaten since breakfast but she said I was too late. At that point an older male and female came over (I presume they were management) and their manner was worse to be honest. In the end the man just shrugged and said he didn't have staff and service was over and that I could wait outside for the takeaway to open in half an hour. It seemed they had the staff to serve everyone else in front of me though. We didn't go back for the rest of the holiday and I won't be going there again. Total disappointment and ruined the first day of the holiday.
