We found this hidden gem from a memory my partner had from his childhood. He said it was so busy and the food was lovely. We were the only ones in the pubs apart from the 2 owners who were so lovely! I had a hunters chicken and my partner had the half a duck! Absolutely beautiful food cooked to perfection! The chicken was wrapped in parma ham not bacon which was divine! My partner said it was the best pint he’s had in a long time! We will definitely back to this homely gem! I hope business pick up for you like it used to be! Thank you for beautiful food and outstanding customer service.

Absolutely crap. Don't waste your time or your money. Everything swimming in oil. I think the sausages were cooked at the crem. The garlic mushrooms were swimming in oil. The chips were tangy and the pork wasn't cooked. To dark in there but I think that's so you can't see your food. Give a wide berth.

Called on chance as we were going shopping in Aberdare later, lovely older world pub, landlords choice of background music, but ever song was a good sing a long. Had to ask if they were open as we were the only ones there, we had a good chat with the landlord.,hes charming once you break through and really knowledgable, particularly on history of the valley's. Our food was fabulous.,i had sizzling steak, cooked perfectly my partner had pork chops again perfectly cooked. The chips were great, although frozen they were lovely and crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. All in all we really enjoyed our visit and are already planning to return on a Saturday evening for a meal and few drinks and a taxi home. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon

Spot on. Lovely soup. Good hand pull. Great view. Top notch barman - friendly, helpful, good local knowledge, especially history and the coastal path. The waitress had a technique for cleaning the tables better than any other I have noticed. And then there was the most unusual ‘ Gents’. We shall be back.

Sorry to say but had a really awful Sunday roast here. The turkey tasted and smelt mouldy and was clearly not freshly cooked and came out lukewarm at best. The vegetables were salty and we only had one roast potato and a frozen yorkshire pudding. Could have done a lot better at home. Was very disappointed as visited on recommendation. We will not be back I'm afraid.

Have had many splendid Sunday roasts at this establishment over the years so decided to go there for my parents 60th anniversary.. mistake.. the small mixed grill I had was terrible and swimming in grease from the very undercooked mushrooms and onions, the pork chop tasted tainted, the lamb chop incinerated, and the bacon barely cooked. The chips were soggy frozen French fries and the sausage was cooked for so long that what was inside disintegrated. My parents steak looked ok but came with chips when jacket spuds were ordered, the chicken curry was tasteless and bland.. I'm putting it down to them possibly having to let the chef go because of the covid plandemic, either that or the owner (who was cheffing) cooks a banging Sunday roast but cant cook anything else very well. I was very disappointed with the food to say the least on this occasion.

I attended the Gadlys Arms last week for the first time in over 28 years and it still hasn't changed. The land lord and land lady were both amazing and the food superb. You are both two wonderful people and I am so pleased that I came to you last week. I have to return back home to Cornwall for sometime due to the Lockdown, but am so looking forward for when I can come back up. I wish you both well in the meantime and hope you can ride this Corona issue out so that life can be as normal as possible for you as soonest. Keep up your excellent work. Will miss you. We have visited this place for many family occasions over the years. It could do with a lick of paint on the ceilings to help brighten it up. Food quality was below average. French fry’s served with main meals. Where’s the home cooked chips?? Chicken tikka tasted like it was cooked from a jar. The customer service however was very friendly and welcoming. This place is like visiting your grans. foods not the best but feels like home.

1star. we ordered chips got burned rock hard chips instead and when the landlady put the chips on the table her elbow rubbed onto my fork. music was terrible 80s remixes of nursery rhymes surprisingly that was the best part. When time machines are made I will go back in time and stop myself from going there. When I got my sausages and mash the mash was ok but it had cold hard lumps in it. And all of it except for the peas was covered in terrible gravy. my brother had two sausages I had three and my great aunty had four I think you were supposed to have three but this day the cook was really lazy.my grandmother had cod with a side of plastic when whe lost are apertite we told the landlady and her excuse was that the cook forgot his glasses but he never forgot his glasses before and he will never do it again to get us to come again (that won't happen) I never got to see him bye I bet he doesn't wear glasses and she made it up incase we see him my dad's fish was half cooked and my aunt had sword fish and lost her apertite as soon as we found the plastic and didn't stop staring at it. And the boys toilets were over cleaned and there was soap all over the floor and the toilet door was a sliding door but it didn't have a lock so people can walk in when you're on the toilet worst place to eat in the universe.

Took my family for a birthday meal because it’s a lovely old pub but the food was revolting. My fish was like grey rubber and my mother actually had a strip of plastic in her food!!!! When we told the woman serving, she said “I’m sorry the chef hasn’t got his glasses on”. This same woman was incredibly rude when she took our order. A member of my family asked what the pork chops came with and the woman cut her off and said curtly “if you let me speak, I’ll tell you”I will never be going back here. Obviously. You have been warned.

We were attending an athletic meet in Aberdare and googled this pub. We arrived and were seated. It was a Sunday so main menu was limited. I had the lamb dinner which was really good. My wife has the gammon which was swimming in grease and my daughter had chicken nuggets. The nuggets were hard and were replaced with only a dish full of hard chips between both meals. £27 and most of the food was sent back. Lovely pub and great atmosphere but food could be better.

My family ate here last night and I have to say not only was the meal fantastic but the staff we also. We were made to feel very welcome from the start and the landlady spent time with us making sure we were happy, she stood talking us through the menu, explaining that we could change things if we wished and even set a challenge for my brother in law, that if he ate all his chicken wings and ribs including his starter then he would be the first person to do so. When the ribbs arrived we all fell about laughing as we could see why (the ribbs were huge, like half a cow huge). Needless to say he failed. Every meal was delicious and servied perfectly. Visited 'The Gad' with friends recently to find a 'specials' menu on the table. All the dishes were exotic and in spicy sauces. Went for the Seafood with noodles in a Red Thai curry sauce. Wow, what a meal! It cost £8.95 but should have been priced closer to £14.00. It was packed with green lipped mussels, king prawns, clams and other fish, as well as tomatoes, red pepper and a fiery sauce. It was very hot a zingy. The accompanying plate of noodles was huge and mixed with beansprouts, beautifully cooked in a light oil. He also served up prawn crackers and to cool us down after the 'fire' he served a dish of yoghurt. An amazing meal for the price of some people's starters! Enjoyed the evening, the service and the sixties music. This place deserves far more custom. It knocks spots off most of the local competition; maybe his food is too adventurous for the average local, who knows?

I live very near the pub so my husband and I decided to go here for a quiet, child free night for our anniversary. What a mistake and one that I shall never make again. I wish we'd stayed home and eaten a micro meal. We ordered garlic mushrooms for starter...all I can say is yuck. Tinned mushrooms in a creamy sauce with raw, enormous pieces of garlic. The cook may as well have put in a bulb of garlic. When I complained to the young girl, she informed the owner (woman) who said that we should have informed them that we don't like a lot of garlic as chef uses a lot of garlic. What??? Why on earth would we order garlic mushrooms and tell them that we don't like a lot of garlic.Mains - I had chicken in a white wine and mustard sauce and my husband had steak. I could only taste mustard (overpowering) no taste of wine or any other flavour whatsoever. My husband had requested his steak to be "well done" it arrived red in the middle. Off putting to say the least. No desserts as we couldn't wait to leave. We were shocked to say the least at the prices for a small valleys pub. We'd payed less for a meal in Cardiff a few weeks prior. And that included two Childrens meals. Simply put...avoid at all costs. The food is not tasty, the welcome / atmosphere is not welcoming and they basically do not care if you complain and have answer for everything. I'm surprised the pub is still open. It's a shame as with a minor facelift, better cook and pleasant staff it could be a real gem.

Had them lined up as you came in and her tone with staff wasn't the most affectionate although she was pleasant enough with us. Food came quick enough and portions were huge. That's the plus. Side salads with food were strange and wilted, I had belly pork which wasn't fantastic but I picked at it. My husband had a burger. He ate most of it but at 1am he had the most horrendous diarrhoea and vomiting. He was severely ill all night and following day. I had the steak(15oz) with bacon and cheese and tbh the cheese was a little overpowering but cooked spot on(med rare). Desserts were ordered (misses will always leave room for chocolate cake) and was very nice, on leaving a lot of the food other people were eating looked lovely and i would fancy. So we will be going back but this time without starters.

My wife and I visited the area to see an old family friend who has just moved to the Welsh valleys and is finding out about the local eateries. She took us here. The chef who I guess is also the owner was obviously of the old school, and when the staff were not busy the 3 or 4 of them were all expected to stand in a row at one end of the pub to be ready to help anyone. However this did not mean the service was all that fast, and there were times when the responses were a bit grumpy, for example when we asked to be moved away from a table next to a loudspeaker so we could actually hear each other. We only needed a main course each, as the portions were huge: in fact we left more than half of our chips even though they were very nicely cooked. My wife liked her Dover sole, but my Blue Mountain (a steak with blue cheese on top) was a bit on the gristly side, and the lumps of cheese were so huge that I scraped nearly all of them off and was still left with the cheese flavour overwhelming that of the beef. The peas were originally frozen, but cooked for so long that they were starting to turn mushy. The desserts in a display cabinet next to our table looked a bit plain: a rhubarb crumble, a plain cheesecake, a chocolate fudge gateau, and a couple of other items. A blackboard announced ice cream flavours were available. We asked, and was told there was vanilla; this could be had with either chocolate or raspberry sauce. Big choice, eh? That definitely confirmed we didn't need anything more to eat. Mind you, we had fun, and my pint of beer was OK. Oh, and it's not that cheap: main courses £12-16, for our choices at least.

Took some of my team out for a meal and they chose Gadlys.. I was dubious at first when we turned up.. but once inside there is a homley atmosphere. The staff were friendly and polite. There's lots of choice on the menu as well as fish board. The desserts are straight from the 70's with profiteroles and black forest gateaux.. all good home cooked food and very reasonable prices.

My husband and I went here recently to this typical cottage style pub which is at the end of a narrow side street but with the bonus of plenty of car parking alongside. Inside there are three distinct seating areas with a central bar. The menu provides plenty of choices from just a sandwich to roast of the day which I always choose and that day I had lamb dinner which came with mashed potato, potch, peas, carrots, cabbage and gravy - delicious as always and for £5.50! Starters and desserts are also available.Service is quick and always polite following a warm welcome but best of all is the food which is always delicious and plentiful. Beside the lunchtime menu there is an evening menu displayed on the blackboard behind the chilled dessert display counter.Go - you will not be disappointed.

Having been to the Gaskets with a party of 16 we were impressed with the quality of the food, realistically priced, and all the meals arrived together. Very busy pub, not surprising given the food and service.

This used to be my "go too" place for sunday dinner because they could fit u in without booking a table. However all too often we had a bad meal and no longer go there. The portion size is very good but the way veg is cooked suggests veg has been boiled all together in a pot and to excess. There was often no taste to the veg. The meat was plentiful but again overcooked. The starter was always hit and miss soups were usually sour tasting or difficult to tell what it was. Prawn and Pate would be recommended.I can vouch for the rude, disrespectful and obnoxious way the owners speak to their long suffering staff. Suprised they have anyone working for them at all. The work staff are always friendly and polite.

We paid a surprise visit to our Mither who lives in Aberdare and went to The Gadlys for lunch. We've been before and always enjoy it. Good food, ranging from curry to salad to fish and chips. Good value and good portions. A very enjoyable lunch.

I found the place very welcoming and it was a very good pub meal but lacked the finishing touches to be classed as a restaurant , although the prices were more restaurant than pub

We arrived at this pub that we took our Aunt to for her 97th birthday. Everyone was very friendly and had a good chat to the landlady. We felt comfortable. The menu was amazing with so much choice it was hard to choose a dish. I had king prawns in sweet and sour sauce with noodles. I have never had a dish with so many prawns, it was so tasty my sister had a huge fish which was from Vietnam, she loved it and Aunty stuck with traditional fish and chips, again beautiful and a large fish that filled the plate. The bill was amazing too, so reasonable, will definitely go back next time we visit Aberdare. I need to work my way through the menu.

Have heard some good reports of the food here but the food we had (Plaice and Prawns / Gammon) were very average, bordering on bland. Fairly cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for.

We ordered two beef dinners it was served in about 5 minutes. Not very high quality at all beef was tough and cold, did not have a very nice tang to it. Basic vegetables, mashed potatoes, cabbage, peas and carrots. The gravy was the best part. We ordered hot chocolate fudge cake with cream for dessert, it was definitely stale could not finish it. Have previously had a bar meal there and lasagne was okay but the chips were tasteless. Wont be returning.

Don't go there,OK the price is except able.,but I had a beef dinner, meat was tough, and the veg I think must have been cooked yesterday and heated up via a microwave. Not except ableLady in my company had the gammon, the gammon was more fat and not eatable.only thing that she could eat was the jacket potatoe. To be fair, this was our second visit,on the first visit the food was except able. But today, means we won't take the risk of retuning to this establishment.

Went on Friday evening for a friends birthday.Staff were very friendly and polite.. Garlic mushrooms were fine. Have had nicer but we're still good, and the pate was plentiful. Gammon was cooked well and salad was filling. Everyone had a pleasant evening although T bone steaks were very sinewy. Think they should complain to supplier or buy elsewhere. Would go again.Pub is oldy worldy, but I like this sometimes in a pub.didnt give 5 cos of the steaks.

Called here Tuesday 16th Feb 2016, fantastic meal and service as usual. If you do visit here I highly recommend you try the garlic mushroom pepper pot as a starter, Absolutely beautiful. A warm, cosy, comfortable pub. We had our fussy four year old granddaughter with us, but the staff put he right, she enjoyed the evening too.

Visited for a meal which was by far the worst meal I'd ever been served. The level of cleanliness was completely unacceptable, but the most appalling thing by far is the attitude and rudeness of the owners. I picked up on the way the staff were spoke to and I am utterly shocked that people of that nature hold a steady business. Horrible food, horrible people.

We came to the sandwich shop bought a few things absolutely fantastic food and service! We found it on a walk and it was fab! It started raining and we asked if we could sit in the little garden which was presented beautifully! Definitely recommend this place xx

My family organised a wake at The Lion at £7 a head, costing £420. The food served was extremely poor quality, so poor that I wasn't able to eat most of it. I am disgusted with the poor quality of food we were served and I cannot believe that anyone involved could believe it was acceptable. At the end of a very difficult day I feel totally ripped off and extremely upset that my family was served such awful food. This is very sad for such a community hub. My family is local to Treorchy and I can guarantee they will not be recommending the venue. I have tried to submit a complaint on the pub's website but the submit button is not working!
