Great fish supper. Light crispy batter on well cooked fish, some of the best chips we've had. Good portion size, although I did think about having seconds. We will go in again before leaving for home in the Highlands.

The best fish and chips I have ever had. I never really understand the fuss of fish and chips until I ate these ones. Amazingly melted in my mouth.

Cracking Chip Shop, I get my Friday night supper here, Every time I get up to bigger. I would highly recommend this place.

Really brilliant fish supper. I've now been twice and both times were excellent. Smaller portions than some places but perfectly adequate.

Fabulous. Called in for Fish and Chips. Very busy which is always a good sign but didn't have to wait long to be served "fresh out of the fryer" beautifully cooked fish and excellent mushy peas. This chippy has been marked on our map for next time we are in the area. Highly recommended.

The food is always freshly cooked! Unfortunately the young girl who works in the shop is a very rude and arrogant young lady! I do not appreciate my change being thrown across the counter! If you don’t enjoy your job or working with the general public… then don’t, unfortunately we will not be returning due to this girl’s attitude

Quite simply perfect fish and chips. Chips cooked perfectly which is rare from a chippie (strangely) and the fish was fresh and perfect, generous portion, really impressed, no doubt one of the very best in Scotland, thoroughly reccomend

The staff were friendly while the food wasn't the worst I'd tasted they wasn't the best either. I found it odd they didn't do plain pork sausages as my sons asd so he won't eat there smocked sausages. A lot different to cardiff!!

Thought would try this out arrived on monday place we was closed no details of opening hours, nothing on internet poor communication skills in his day and age only notice was cash only, makes you wonder what food will be?

Excellent haddock and chips, cooked to order, light crisp batter and crisp chips too that didn't stick together in a soggy lump. Definitely the best in town.

Chips are nice soft crispy on the outside with being buttersoft and tasty on the inside. The fish from my friends fish supper the same. Fish brilliant soft and tasty and the butter nice and crispy. No trying to camouflage the taste with to much vinegar or salt instead just the right amount to support the brilliance of the product and compliment it. Would eat there any day again best I had in 11 years living in Scotland.

Visited yesterday (21/03/22) as my usual chippy in Biggar was so busy. Never again, got a fish and a portion of chips, the fish was a greasy blob with the carton in came in swimming in grease, the chips were made up of small hard bits. The food went straight into the nearest bin.

Fish is fresh and perfectly cooked - soft and flaky, batter is crispy and light (almost tempura style) and chips are soft inside with a really nice crisp outer. Fish is cooked to order, so more than happy to wait if busy as it's a sign of the freshness of the food! Service is always friendly. One of the best, most consistent chippies around!

Long wait outside for two portions of fish and chips and 2 battered sausages. Chips were tasty, good portion sizes. Sausages were tasty. The squares of battered fish were very greasy and unappetising and cold. We asked for a gravy when we collected the order, but had to wait another 20 minutes to be served with it! Not sure what's going on with this place ..... very odd.

The chippy was awful! The batter was really oily. Worst sauce ever and really thick salt. Very disappointed will not be back!

Visited this chip shop on Saturday evenings for the past couple of years. Out of curiosity we tried the other chip shop with our usual order. It’s safe to say we will be back at the Friary . Their special fish and chips is better than any of the chip shops we’ve tried in West Lothian and Lanarkshire.

Fantastic food at a great price 👌 would definitely recommend both the fish supper and the haggis supper. Absolutely grand!

Once again I visited the fryery ,excellent fish and chips cooked to order Mouth watering fish and a good portion of chips I could not fault it . To. E and I e ate many the best fish and chips in the uk.

I drive from Edinburgh to Biggar for fish and chips nowhere matches the quality and freshness and well worth the near 60 mile round trip HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

They say if your hungry you'll eat it... Me and my partner were starving and it still went in the bin, not caring that it cost me £9.10. I don't normally leave negative reviews but feel the need to warn folk to avoid. After seeing online that a nearby chippy was rated one of the best in South Lanarkshire we thought we would give it a go. Sadly with it being boxing day it was closed but after driving by the Fryery and seeing it was open we decided to stop there, thinking with it being in such close vicinity to such a highly rated chippy it would also be good in order to compete. Tonight we discovered that not only was it p**s poor, with its frozen chips and God only knows what to describe the king rib and sausage supper as. It has to be by far the worst chip shop I've been in. Unfortunately now I will always remember Biggar for this and don't see myself stopping at any other eateries in the village/town. Horrible experience, only positive, I won't be spending any more money it and will now likely avoid stopping for food in Biggar again if this is the sort of place it has to offer. One star is being generous, only because Google requires a minimum of one star! I also note than only other person to have rated this has gave it 5 stars, will be taking note of the other 8 places he has "rated" and avoiding them like the plague.

We went to Biggar last weekend for a fish supper. Decided to go back this weekend . Would definitely recommend.

The food here is amazing. Everything is cooked fresh and too order. We’ve even been in when the potatoes have gone from the bag to the chipper. As a result the batter here is always light and crispy as it should be. And the chips are always fresh, piping hot and tasty! It doesn’t look much. But the food does the talking.

would not be my first choice for take away food.lots of changes in management, unhelpful staff. don't like the oil they use.

This was the chippy to go to maybe 10 years ago but it’s been shutdown, renovated, shutdown, turned into a building site reopened and it’s just dreadful to look at now as it is just a building site. The food well that’s if you can class it as food and not something, someone has fished out the toilet and dipped in batter! It’s one bit of fish actually sliced in half and made to look like two bits of fish. For the same price you can get cooked chips that taste nice and 2 pieces of fish for the same money and a friendly welcome at the Townhead Cafe.

Had another fish and chips on Friday Fish freshly fried in a nice tasty light batter ,fish melted in the mouth Nice chips too

We love the crispy batter covering the fresh tasty fish, together with well cooked chips a delicious meal! Good friendly service too.

Visited for some takeaway suppers (pizza and battered sausage) - there seems to be seating but it looked as though the premises were being renovated so I'm not sure if this will stay.The food is very good but as it was cooked fresh we had to wait for quite a while (also it was busy when we arrived which probably contributed to the delay). We would definitely return and recommend.

The smoked sausage supper was not good value. One sausage with the end chopped off and some chips. Very unfair

Although there has been a fish & chip shop on this site for many years (The Original Chippy and Golden Fry are amongst the previous names) this one only re-opened recently after a lengthy period of lying vacant. Surprisingly, on the face of things, despite the closure not much has been done to refurbish the premises in the interim period - one of the outside windows has been repaired by tape, the rear restaurant (which was once the very smart Bamboo Fusion) remains closed off and the interior looks a bit cluttered.
