The Front Parlour in Sunderland

Food and cafe itself are both lovely and the staff are very friendly. However it feels like they try to do more than they are able to (allowing many customers in to dine but struggling to keep up). We’ve been twice and both times waited almost an hour for our food. First time they forgot about my order but today we were told we had 45 minutes to order, eat and leave making us feel rushed and not get a proper look at the menu. We ordered pretty much immediately and 40 minutes later we’re told we need to leave in 5 minutes despite our food not even been served yet. We were moved table and were interrupted 3 times to take and return chairs to our table. The staff were apologetic and lovely about it but it really spoilt our time out feeling so rushed and disturbed so many times and waiting so long for a meal I could make at home in 5 minutes (avocado on sourdough).

First visit today, will definately be back.

Great food and top notch flat white. They provided tap water on request and a doggy bag for the half a sandwich we couldn’t eat due to the large portion. Well recommended. Service very good also.

We had afternoon tea here on Friday it was an amazing experience, the food was delicious, there was so much we had to ask for a box to take it home as we just couldn't finish it! The staff are lovely and friendly and best of all I could take my two little dogs with me, they got a puppuccino which was lovely and they enjoyed their treat. We will definitely be back soon. One of our favourite cafés in Sunderland! Always beautiful food and lovely staff, always made to feel really welcome. They're really good with food allergies, and make you feel very safe to eat there 😊

Loved this cafe! The staff was very welcoming, friendly and accommodating! Great coffee and espresso brownie ☕ The interior nice and pleasant, although the background music a little too loud. Overall highly recommend 🌟

Food is tasty, coffee is good. Very welcoming to dogs. But charging £1 extra to have a bit of jam with your toast is outrageous - you can buy a jar in the supermarket for not much more, and the cost price from a hospitality supplier is even less (source: I'm a hospitality accountant). Its little things like this that put people off returning. Also I second the review about the music being very loud, I had to put earplugs in, especially as it was the dreaded Christmas playlist. Not an ND-friendly volume!

Lovely dog friendly cafe 🥰 The girls serving were very friendly, welcoming and made of my dog, giving him a puppuccino! They are an asset to the owner. Had a lovely Latte and Festive scone. Will definately go back

No cafe in the museum so Floriana it was. Horrendous music. Range of food rather limited but, coffee very much above average and HOT. Cakes good too.

This cafe has lovely bright interior with friendly staff. Enjoyed my loaded sourdough toast and iced hazelnut latte was good too. Menu had many vegetarian options

Tried their Smoked Salmon & Avocado Bagel and it's amazing!! The staff are very friendly and polite. Loving the layout and atmosphere in the restaurant. Definitely a good place to enjoy tea and dessert. Will definitely come back again to try more dishes!

Went inside and sat down on a table for 5 minutes and was ignored. The place seems to be run by children who obviously don't know how to acknowledge customers.

Lovely Café, first time visiting today, it is near the botanical winter museum. Ordered an iced caramel latte and a cappuccino with pistachio syrup, came to £7.40, reasonable prices and nice drinks! Will definitely return. Food menu also looked nice and some cakes to choose from. Nice atmosphere and friendly service 😊

A lovely clean, calm and contemporary cafe in the city centre. Went in for the pistachio latte, stayed for the loaded sourdough avocado smash. Both served quickly and tasted delicious!

An excellent addition to the coffee and branch options at Sunderland. The food, including the yoghurt bowl and the bagel, was delicious. The coffee was also wonderful. The prices were fair and the service was quick and friendly. I highly recommend that you give it a try.

Extraordinary choice of teas. Served in glass teapot so you can see the ingredients and the lovely colour as you pour. The Love Leaf Tea menu is like a good wine list, my choice was Citrus Rooibos which stayed hot in the pot and was in good measure for only £3.40 We just missed out on freshly prepared Moroccan Chickpea soup was sold out but will return a little earlier for lunch next visit. Chose grilled halloumi, crushed avocado hot honey, garlic & lemon on delicious toasted bread, topped with fresh peas shoots, was delicious. £7.25 A slice of sticky toffee/biscoff cake to finish was scrumptious. £3.80 Customer service was very welcoming, prompt & efficient service, dementia friendly and dog friendly. It is so much more than a coffee house and well situated right opposite the Winter Gardens and Mowbray Park.

We visited this morning and what a place this is. We were welcomed by the lovely, friendly owners. We had coffee and delicious cakes. My husband had a rhubarb custard blonde and I had a delicious frangipani apricot and pistachio slice. Lots of choice. We will return very soon.

Staff are incredibly friendly and the drinks are lovely. There is a vast selection of food to choose from that are very reasonably priced.

Lovely quirky hidden gem, toasties were done to perfection with thick sliced bread, lovey decor & friendly staff. Just a little wait for freshly prepared

Visited today the Thai spicy soup utterly delicious, and the sandwich I chose to have with it was completely fresh made. I found it value for money I will not need anything else till tomorrow.

Came here for a quick snack and to say the least the food was outstanding, service was amazing all done by the same lady who was really attentive. Allowed us to swap items in our bagels to our choice as well as dietary requirements. Will be back if ever in the area

The loveliest and most economical afternoon tea I've ever had. Beautiful place and very beautifully decorated. Owners are most attentive and helpful, the tea excellent and the 3 tiered sandwich trays divine!

I’ve been a bit unwell of late so I haven’t been out of late however a lovely friend suggested we go out for lunch so we headed to The Front Parlour in sunderland and had such a lovely experience! What a beautiful setting, warm & friendly with a gorgeous menu with lots of GF options to enjoy! I opted for the loaded sourdough GF version which was served on fresh free from tiger loaf - packed with flavour and super fresh. The lovely owner said she had tried many GF breads & this was the one that withstood her taste test and I couldn’t agree more! It was gorgeous… I opted for the salted Carmel brownie which was gooey, moist and truly indulgent … This place felt like an absolute treasure and super comforting surroundings (and service) with food that makes you smile 😊 Cant wait to visit again

Sarnies, cakes, toasties, cakes, a nice cup of coffee, and not forgetting the cakes. Shame the place is so small but that's the only downside. Will be back.

Wonderful hidden gem. Fabulous food and drinks. Lovely atmosphere. Would give 6 stars if possible. Definitely worth a visit!!!
