Shandiz Restaurant in Sunderland

Wonderful staff, so hospitable. Gorgeous food and so creatively presented. Perfect start to an evening at the theatre with friends. Have ordered on Just eat too (although quantity of food was less than served in restaurant?) But still amazing and enough to eat. I ordered the one person platter (3 kebabs with rice) and a feta salad as a side. My friend ordered a curry with rice and chocolate cake.

Had takeaways from here before but never actually sat in the restaurant. Called in after work on a whim and wasn't disappointed. Absolutely beautiful food and lovely staff!

Really tasty food. I’ve been here a few times now when me and my wife are in Sunderland. Very reasonably priced food as well. Whenever I’m here I will try another dish. Big portions and the food is seasoned perfectly. I will be going later on as well to try another dish. Really friendly family restaurant. I highly recommend trying if your in this area.

Stunningly good food. We had never had Persian food before but the waitress was so helpful and the dishes we had were amazing. Really rich flavours, beautifully presented and very generous servings.

Called in before going to the theatre. I am regularly visiting Sunderland to work so I have to rely on local restaurants. Most of the time I just want to order food to my hotel room. I have been to the restaurant couple of times but had probably 20+ takeaways. I have never had a bad meal. The food is absolutely amazing. It’s one of the reason why I am staying in near by hotel is so I can order food from Shandiz all times. The meat is so delicious, dips are full of flavour and nan bread is just incredible. I hope owners and chef get to see this review. Well done, you are serving simply fantastic food.

The food is good like all Persians restaurants, but the quantity is less. If you visit a Persians place in Newcastle, you get a good quantity of the same food. But overall, the place is worth a try.

Delicious food, very friendly, helpful and patient service (and they gave us free soup!) excellent prices and decent portion sizes. loads of vegan/veggie options. Cosy and quiet, relaxing atmosphere.

I was delighted to find an Iranian restaurant in the city of Sunderland, as it added a nice touch to my one-day trip. The staff there were kind and welcoming, and they treated me with respect. I ordered lamb chops with rice, which was very delicious and tasty, although the quality of the rice could have been better. Considering the difficulty of finding Iranian ingredients in a European country, it was acceptable. The only thing that slightly concerned me was when it came time to pay the bill, they said they only accepted cash, and I didn't have any on me. 😬 Luckily, my friend was kind enough to cover the entire bill. So, if you ever visit Sunderland, I recommend giving it a try.

The quality of the food was awful, the service was worse than the food, the basic things that every restaurant should observe were not observed at all. The atmosphere also felt like I came from a somsari to a restaurant, the flowers on the table were like the flowers I had seen on the grave thirty years ago in Iran. You take cash to avoid taxes, you can escape from the alcohol tax, but at least in one case, you must comply with the minimum. To make the customer want to come to your restaurant again. I wrote Farsi so that at least you don't lose your English customers

I have been a loyal customer with this restaurant for a number of years. Go in with groups of friends have for years but also order. I order that much I have been awarded £10.40 in the stamp cards and when I have placed My order because it is £10.40 discount they have cancelled the order. I tried 3 times and they cancelled each one. will not be returning. greedy greedy

Loyal customer but now refusing to honour the stamp card deal. Immensely greedy behaviour with no communication whatsoever. Tried twice on one night to get rejected, tried again a week later and same thing. Won’t be ordering from here again. I hope the extra tenner is worth it.

What an absolutely brilliant little unpretentious gem in a city full of great restaurants. We went looking for an Italian restaurant, it was fully booked. We thought the Shandiz was only a takeaway, and my wife said lets see what it looked like as we walked back. From the outside it looks 'poor' but the inside is surprisingly lovely in Iranian /Persian style. But the food , OMG, for the money is simply amazingly brilliant. We were served by Nahal who was beyond lovely, professional and attentive. If you fancy a brilliant CHEAP meal, ours with a bottle of good house red wine costed only £40.99, you can't go wrong! Go here and enjoy. I strongly recommend a bargain great meal with great flavours and service!

We regularly ordered from Shandiz and had accrued enough stamps on our stampcard, however the restaurant cancels any order made using the stampcard discount but will put through orders at full price. We won't be ordering from here again.

We order from here a lot, and we’d earned a nice amount on a stamp card to deduct from this order. The restaurant cancelled the order with no real reason other than they’re not accepting stamp cards.. we ordered full price but the food is not to its usual standard tonight 😟

Great place to eat clean tasty value for money food.

Food only took a moment to sort when I arrived - but it was the wrong order. Instead of a chicken and chips wrap I got a halloumi and salad wrap. It was too late when I realised, so I can say it tasty, but I had added a no onions comment and there were onions in the salad - this order mistake could have been problematic if it had been an onion allergy, rather than an intolerance, as they were hard to find.

A very friendly welcome and tasty food from an interesting Persian menu. Plenty of vegetarian options. We were served a complimentary bowl of delicious lentil soup each. We had starters which were generous in size. Kash E Bademjan starter tasted as good as it looked. I had the Faseenjan main which was different and quite a sweet main. Thank you Shandiz.

Had a fantastic meal with family here today.. food and service was excellent and very reasonably priced.. the manageress was very welcoming and friendly and the waitress did a excellent job with a smile.. would recommend highly.

The chicken wrap was delicious.. I only had two issues, the food temp was a little on the cold side and there were only about twenty chips in one portion. Looked like someone had helped themselves to a few en route. If that's not the case then £3 for half a portion of chips is a little on the tight side. Saying that I would order again as the chicken was a delight!

They got my order wrong and give me a wrap with nuts in. They just laughed their mistake off and give me the correct order (after having to drive back) For all they knew I could've been allergic so laughing it off didn't sit well with me. I don't think I will be returning EDIT FOR A REPLY: You are incorrect. You do a Nutella Wrap. Hence why I did not notice until I took a bite of my 'chicken' wrap. If I had allergies, I could be in hospital or dead. You really need to update your staff that Nutella contains nuts and double check all orders that have nuts to make sure they are correct. You are opposite TTonic

Normally brilliant in every way but something but quite right tonight

Starter of Falafel was burnt black and solid as a rock and the salad with it was old, the lettuce had brown edges so that went straight in the bin. The lamb in the wrap was so chewy I gave up before I choked to death. If you value your teeth and life don't buy from here, horrendously dissapointing.

Got a lamb wrap that came luke warm with six chips. Not very flavourful and didn't feel like value for money at all. Disappointed after hearing so many good things.

I came to Sunderland in 2018 and learned about the restaurant from my friends. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly. I returned in 2019 and invited my family to visit and the food was of the same level and quality. I came back 5 years after my first visit and Shandy's is still the same. The best Persian restaurant in England 👍🏻

This is a great place to call in for food while in the city centre. Excellent food, outstanding service and reasonably priced. We loved it.

Superb food , great selection of starters with bread to die for. Good selection of main meals and the selection we made was tasty, with "melt in your mouth" meat dishes. Vegetarian options are available if that's what you prefer. Friendly attentive staff, good prices and good portions size. What's not to like? We will be back next time we are in the city.

Had a great lunch with friends on their recommendation. From now on I'll be going here every time Whenever I want to have a good time with good meal. Absolutely amazing tastes to the food and amazing value. It was my first time & the waitress was really helpful and patient. We were given a small bowl of complementary lentil soup to start with, then had Kashk-Ebademjan with a huge naan for a starter, followed by Half chicken and Chelo Khoresh Gaimeh Badamjan-lamb, Koobideh (kofta grill) which were absolutely delicious. We end up our meal with happy faces and this all cost us £34.5. Great value, amazing tastes & very friendly waitress. Highly recommended.

Wow! First time ordered and will order again for sure. This review is for mixed wrap (chicken and kofta) with garlic and chilli but .. it was incredible. I still have curry with rice (for later/tomorrow) but if the quality of it is as good as the wrap was - I will be a happy man. Well done. Thank you!

Food was delivered very very cold. Disappointing to eat

Had Bakhtiary (cubed chicken and lamb on one skewer) which came with saffron rice. Added garlic & chilli dips and a nan, all for under £20. Meat beautifully spiced and tender and nan was light and fluffy. Very nice pint of draught Poretti to go with it too. Often get something to eat before the match here and never disappoints. Service is always good and the restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere.

There isn’t many parking available nearby. They are cash only. Staff are very friendly and we were offered a complimentary soup which tasted well. Chicken kebabs tasted nice but minced lamb kebab wasn’t tasty at all, stay away from that one.

Unreal food and the best garlic in sunderland

It's really nice resturant. The atmosphere was great and food was good. The only downside was the drinks. Nothing special there. Just ordinary drinks that you can buy from the shops. I didn't expect that when I order Doogh, I get pasteurized Ayran. The rest was great. Great value for money.
