We booked the Frigate online well in advance of our visit to Ullapool. When I got an email cancellation at the last minute I was suspicious that their booking system had been hacked (!) but after managing to get in touch with them via Facebook Messenger (they didn't answer the phone) it turned out that they had closed because of a lack of staff. We were able to confirm that they were indeed closed when we got to Ullapool ourselves.

My husband and I booked dinner here for 1 night when staying in Ullapool as part of the NC500 trip. Ullapool is a beautiful little Loch side town. On recommendation we prebooked a table here for dinner. If you are coming to Ullapool you really must prebook! I was a little worried after reading some reviews but I needn't have been. The staff were super friendly. The location excellent and the tables nicely spaced out. We both ordered fish and chips and despite not being particularly hungry ate the whole lot - delicious! The pizzas also looked amazing! I would recommend!

You wouldn't think of it if this little harbour front cafe but this is a little hidden gem. Brilliant service. Food is unbelievable. If your in Ullapool definitely worth a visit even if it's just a coffee.

Nice little restaurant on the harbour front with friendly staff and a varied menu. The food was pretty basic and all seemed to have just been put in an oven, which is absolutely fair enough for a much cheaper price! I felt this to be a little expensive for the quality of the food provided, and they seem to be capitalising off a lack of choice in the town. The whisky sauce with the burger was very delicious, but the rest of the meals were pretty average!

Terrible terrible experience here. The ‘gentleman’ working there was so so rude not just to me but to other customers too. Looking round, other patrons were really stoney faced at the awful atmosphere created by this man shouting and chastising customers. Some actually walked out. I only ate part of my food as I found a hair in it and after it took nearly an hour to arrive. If the staff here are unhappy in their job then perhaps they should look for a change and not take it out on visitors who just want a coffee, smile and perhaps a friendly chat. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. Not surprised at the other negative reviews on here at all. Avoid at all costs. Poor food, terrible service.

Avoid if you value manners, warm coffee or reasonable service. Popped in for a takeaway coffee with 15 mins to spare before ferry. Order was taken and I was stood waiting for the drink at the bar (no receipt offered). Female bar staff stood opposite me on other side of the bar but was not making my drink or communicating with me at all. I was eventually then told to wait outside and they’d bring it to me. Once outside a tall young man slammed the door behind me (I though it must’ve been stiff). Obviously they were trying to close, no probs. However, 10 mins later and ferry is now arriving and I still don’t have my coffee, so I try the door that I thought was just pulled shut. The young man appeared and I asked if it was ready as I had to go. He immediately appeared out another door with my drink and said “Yeah, it was ready when you tried to pull the door off its hinges. You saw me bolt the door, so…”. I didn’t wait to hear the rest as if I had I might’ve ended up losing more than just my coffee! Coffee was luke warm and thimble-sized… quite disappointing for £2.50! Service was S…L…O…W! RUDE STAFF!

We were waiting to board our boat with Shearwater Cruises and thought we would pop in for some hot drinks while we waited. We found the service really disappointing and very slow. When our hot drinks did arrive my cappuccino wasn't very hot. We watched two members of staff approach a table adjacent to us that needed clearing and neither of them actually cleared it completely or cleaned it down. There didn't seem to be anyone in charge and it all seemed a little chaotic. Even when it came to paying we were left at the till for ages. Not a great example of hospitality especially if you want customers to return in the evening for dinner!

Amazing dinner: best of the NC500. Had the mussels as a starter and honestly some of the best mussels I have ever had. Great service and great cocktails. Staff were so friendly and up for a wee chat. Had a pizza for a main which had a lovely tomato base and good thin and crusty base. Couldn’t recommend enough for a no fuss tasty evening meal

What a wonderful place to stop! We stopped here for lunch and enjoyed a Cullen skink, goats cheese pizza with a bowl of chips. The food was excellent along with the service from the young staff who were busy but extremely friendly and polite. Food came quickly. The only thing that let the restaurant down was the lack of table service for outside seating, this would have definitely made the visit 5 stars. Saying this I hope we have the pleasure of stopping here again in the future.

We had the Cullen skink for a starter and mushroom stroganoff and chicken burger for main, all were very tasty and plenty of it, including a mound of really nice fries with the burger. I had the lemon posset for dessert and though they had ran out of shortbread they replaced it with a large piece of passion fruit frangipane. The staff were really friendly, especially the young man with the dark hair who gave us some sightseeing suggestions, which we did see the next day and were worth it. Nice place with a fair amount of drinks on offer, would go again if staying for more days.

I’m from the south of England and iced coffee is an important part of my culture. When I first arrived in Ullapool I struggled to find an establishment that sold iced coffee but once I found the Frigate it wasn’t as if you are settling for the ‘only’ iced coffee in town - it is the best I’ve ever had. So many choices of syrups and milks (vegan options for example). I became a regular in the week I was there just couldn’t get enough. Staff are also extremely friendly and welcoming… couldn’t recommend this place enough

No food on offer other than crisps, ice cream and a meagre offering of cake, shocked as we were there for a 1pm show and had travelled over an hour thinking we would be fine for lunch at the theatre. Staff were fine, no hint of getting things done in a timely fashion and not much interaction with customers. Decor is depressing, such a big space makes it cold and echoey. Just no atmosphere whatsoever. Very disappointed and won't be back.

We stayed at this Inn/Hotel at the beginning of November, returning home we received an email asking us to review our stay. This we did by email, however, we did not receive a reply nor did we receive a reply to our follow up copy email, which I now type below. "Many thanks for your email, usually we send a report good or bad to Tripadvisor, as you have asked for feedback I am happy to share our thoughts with you initially. I have an email from you confirming our reservation from the 4th to the 8th November, 2024 in a Garden Room. This was because we have a dog and thought this would be an easier option should she need to go outside. When we arrived we had NOT been booked into a Garden Room for our five nights, as per your confirmation. We were offered a garden room for 3 nights and two other nights elsewhere within the hotel. I really did not feel changing rooms, packing and unpacking for two nights was a good idea, so we opted to stay again in Room 111 for the five night stay. I am sure you will agree, this was not a good start to our holiday. I spoke to another couple who had also booked a garden room only to find they too had been misallocated a room and these long established customers were very upset and vowed not to return next year for their 8th year. I feel it necessary to draw to your attention the lack of servicing for Room 111. Each day our duvet was "just turned over at the top", the bottom sheet was not straightened and the pillows were as we had arisen, not even straightened and aligned. The cleanliness in the bathroom left much to be desired. As I am sure you are aware there is no toilet brush next to the lavatory. The toilet was not cleaned throughout our stay and the bowl after five nights was turning a light shade of brown, however, diligent attention was paid to folding and making the spare toilet roll and the one for use look pretty. I would have preferred a clean toilet. This takes me on to the bath. On arrival there was a single long dark hair in the bath, as we did not use the bath and both have grey hair, this was still there when we left!! The shower doors require a thorough clean and polish, there is black mould on the wall and around the base of the shower. During our stay this was NOT cleaned at all. Mould and Mildew spray with a toothbrush would solve this problem. Likewise the wash hand basin was neglected. No dusting or vacuuming was carried out in the room for the duration of our stay. For your information I left a piece of cotton and a clean tissue on the floor and they were not picked up. When we had dinner in the bar area dogs were quite welcome. However, in the morning we did feel rather like second class citizens as we were with other dog owners required to use the alternative dining room, which was uninviting and a long way from the self-service area in the breakfast room. On two days for breakfast we were along with four other owners with dogs, allowed to use the breakfast room. No explanation was given for the flexible rule. To end on a good note, the staff were pleasant and helpful, always willing to assist in anyway they could. It is with interest I await your response. " On our next trip to Scotland we shall stay elsewhere.
