This place is great for casual nights out, get-togethers, birthday parties, dates and so on. There is an outdoor smoking area with tables as well as area with 3 pool tables on the inside. There are great deals on cocktails and shots. This place offers great variety of spirits, rums, gins, whiskeys as well as lager and cider on tap. They serve delicious burgers, wings, pizzas as well as bottomless brunch. There are always fun things happening throughout the week like quiz nights, karaoke as well as open mic nights. It's very spacious, yet cozy and laid back. Staff is very polite, friendly and always serve with a smile.

I absolutely loved this place! Whether you're in the mood for a relaxed evening or a fancy night out, this spot has got you covered. I'm already planning my next visit here - can't wait to come back!

Brilliant bottomless brunch, best one we have been on! Nathan and Grace very accommodating and on it with the service. Definitely recommend!

Not enough staff and a lack of food so we all had to pick an alternatives. This was a Saturday at midday. The Peri Peri chicken was extremely underwhelming and the chips looked like the hadn't seen a oven. Very basic. Food was very extreml slow to come out and arguably wasn't anything crazy that we ordered. For drinks, sure, The Frairy is fine. For food, I'd go elsewhere.

We came on a Saturday evening. Lauren Dexter was serving us in the outdoor area, she was polite, kind, couldn’t do more for us. Asking if we would like more drinks. Telling us when last orders were. Communication is key and she has it. This girl deserves a pay rise, a key member of the team. Do not lose her.

I love it here every Thursday. karaoke is amazing every Thursday and the drink prices are good as well. There are two bartenders here that always take care of me and by boyfriend and are all around amazing workers, Felicity and Lauren D.

Bunch of friends ordered food, we were informed the area we were sat in was being hired out for an event, so we told them we were moving table which they 'understood' yet food took from hour and half, the latter being a couple tapas...

Where do we start? A friend of mine booked a table for 12 of us for a birthday party. When we got there, security and management were adamant we couldn’t have more than 8 to a table - despite us being outside and government guidance...

Booked in advance for a table for me and my best mate. Got sat on a high unwiped sticky table with uncomfortable chair. Asked for a different table and was told they were all booked despite the fact I also booked and wasn't able to pick a table. Sat for an hour and 7 other tables were free the whole time. Expensive and not worth it and staff were unhelpful apart from the nice girl who wiped the table (but I had to ask) would not recommend

We booked two tables prior to coming on our visit and asked to be seated close to each other. When we arrived we were sat outside on the front by the street before being allowed into the main garden for a long time. We were seated apart, some of our friends had ordered drinks and waited over an hour to receive them and had to ask staff multiple times to bring them the drinks they paid for. There were a couple of waiters who were very apologetic and friendly and made the experience better. One waitress however had no customer service ettiequte and spoke to us in a rude manner. The only way to get drinks because of covid is through the app, however for half of us the app was refusing payment and so we had to converse amongst each other and across tables about paying as we were on girls and boys tables. The waitress noticed a couple of people had swapped tables And tried to get us removed for breaking covid regulations and when I explained why we were going over she responded saying “she didn’t care”, meanwhile a pile of woman’s sick - a bodily fluid was left unclean for just short of 40 minutes or so on a table behind us. Me and my friends are all from the same household and they had no issue the girls moving to a table near the heaters next to a group of people less than a metre a way we didn’t know. I understand It’s stressful working in the industry especially during the current climate and on the night was very patient but it was just an overall frustrating first night out in over a year.

One great member of staff who was very accommodating to everyone, and always made sure we had our drinks. Blonde waitress who was quite rude and clearly in the wrong job. Bloke in white t shirt, maybe more senior, was also rude and ignorant. Pile of sick left near us for 40 minutes. Waited over 2 hours for a round of drinks. The nice staff member was the only redeeming factor!

Such a good night out for students, so affordable and very safe in the coronavirus pandemic. Definitely recommend the place.

Jay Gee and Ian are th best bouncers in the world because they always ensure that I am safe no matter the state I'm in when I'm too drunk they make sure I get into my taxi home safe and ensure that my night is the best they can be. They ensure that I have the best night possible and they make sure that it is to the best most professional and courteous that it can be. I couldn't thank any better two people for making sure that I feel safe and secure because they make sure everything goes correct. Im from stoke and they have made me be able to enjoy a night out again after being out in Stoke. You guys rock and hope you the best in any careers that you choose to go into.

The Friary is a rather noisy modern pub on the fringes of Derby city centre, housed in a very attractive historic building (former bank?). The decor is certainly nice, and the seating very comfortable. That said, if you're a beer lover, you will actually find a small range of changing kegs - only, the staff will know nothing about those. I asked a barman a question on a certain keg beer, and he didn't know it existed - although there it was, on the chalk board right behind him. A shame that such a nice-looking place suffers from, at best, indifferent staff. Not an essential stop on a Derby pub crawl expect for the building and deco.

Nice friendly place to hang out. If you need a plug socket to do work plenty about. Good food and great place to sit and watch big screen action

I have nachos quite frequently, as I love it. Hance I know the basics for nachos, tortilla chips AND cheese. I had nachos here few months ago and they were absolutely delicious! Now however, I got nachos without ANY cheese on it. Took it back, guy said he'd redo them and brought back the same plate with little bit of I guessed, normal cheese (they were supposed to be vegan nachos) sprinkled on top of the same plate. Very disappointed.

Nicely done up now but I suppose they have to make that money back some how and we found that out in the price of drinks. We then ordered mac n cheese and chicken wings the mac n cheese came out in the smallest bowl I had seen and no salad even though this was advertised on the menu. The wings had a good offer on 25p each so I ordered 8. So I can’t complain to much but They were over cooked and I only got 7. The lovely young lady advised he was putting in another batch and it would be with me soon. I never did get that chicken wing. All in all nice renovations but feel they have increased drinks to accommodate this and did see some nice food come out to others but unfortunately I can only judge what I had and I didn’t get what I paid for.

The atmosphere is good and the layout and aesthetic is great but the new menu lets it down with not a lot of range, limited to fried chicken, burgers and chips with similar toppings throughout, not a healthier option or salad in sight. The deep fried food continues to dessert. Shame strongbow has been removed from the bar too, only thatchers on tap now for cider.

Pop in yesterday for some lunch and a drink . We ordered the food the first choice was not available. Wen food arrive they I ask for some salt etc and napkins . I was told we do not have any . They did not come back to see if everything was ok with the food .will not be eating in the venue again . Need to improve your customer service

No other way to describe this place than a hole. In desperate need of refurbishment. Everything is filthy and/or broken. So many more nicer places to visit! Avoid this barn

We were hoping for few quiet games of pool on a Sunday night. Unfortunately a group of very drunk people were swarmed round the pool table area. Two tables had drinks spilled on them. We tried to play a game on one of the other tables, but it became quite hard to do when a couple who were obviously steaming were constantly in the way. The bar staff could see that they were a nuisance but didn’t have the confidence to tell them to move on.

Miserable doorman who accepted no criticism of the Popworld/Wetherspoon’s divide. Ordered me off the premises when I enquired about the association between the two venues and noted the fact that the ‘go-between’ was less the helpful. Such criticism and blatant censorship is akin to North Korea. Good luck!

It can't have been more than a couple of weeks since I last payed a visit to the friary and pop world in derby and its very rare that I experience any discomfort or outrage especially on a night out with 'the lads' however on this occasion I am sad to say I was left a little disheartened. Was just the usual come in on a weekend, couple pints and games of pool before a bit of a sesh but when I got talking to one of the staff, I think her name was heather she left me quite repulsed and upset. Not only did this young girl (cant be any older than 27) show a complete lack of respect for me and my boyfriend but she took it upon herself to talk profanities under her breath at me for simply ordering a drink that she perhaps wasn't sure of? Honestly this left me with a little bit of a bitter taste in my mouth for the rest of the evening. Now im not sure if she had just had a difficult day but that is no reason to bring your issues to work with you. I had also received similar treatment from another employee and i cant remember his name however he was quite a large chap, bit round (I think Connor or Callum) but not long after the incident with the young girl this male staff seemed to also behave in a similar way.

The staff are rude and the drinks overpriced, i paid almost £5 for a pint after waiting 20 mins to be serverd, there was football on so I understand it was busy however the bar staff were more inclined to serve the younger more attractive ladies who had just walked up to the bar whilst I had been waiting ages, was difficult to find somewhere to sit as can be expected with football on so we went outside where it was nice until we were told by bouncers we had to leave in 10 mins and we’d only just got there.. a bit of notice would be nice

Having been visiting this pub for over 14 years I will not be going back. Standards in food, drink and customer service have taken a dramatic downturn.

I like the friary, but I have been here a few times over the last few months and the staff are just so patronising and rude. There is one particular girl who seems to be a supervisor or manager and she can barely utter a sentence without making me feel like I have said something offensive.

So I'm writing this review because this is the worst experience I've ever had at a bar/restaurant ... Reason one I went to order food at the bar and the first choice my partner wanted wasn't available because they ran out... My first choice had also ran out so we had to sit back down and decide on our second choice of food... We decided on something simple a plain burger and hunters chicken... I ask specifically for the burger to only have cheese on and nothing else as my partner can't eat sauce or salad... So the food came out and my partners burger had salad and sauce on so he wasn't happy... I looked at my plate and I had salad on mine and a side of salad when I asked for peas and a side salad... So we then ask the bar man to sort it and he pushed a chair across the room and kicked the kitchen door as he went back in... We got up and left never to return again. Awful experience.

Today two of us were served 'Baked' potatoes which were still frozen in the centre. Will not be eating there again.

Service here was ok. Food definitely not ok . Jacket potatoes still frozen inside. Fish & chips so greasy. ‘Dirty chips’ stuck together. Club sandwich first layer not too bad ,but next layer was just a small chunk of chicken @ one end. The top piece of bread was a thin crust..I’ve never know a chef to use the crust.. I think there will be more comments. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Our group all agreed to never visit again

Great for students and love the student discount cards - its the reason we come so often for such cheap pints! Lots of pool tables, could sometimes do with more seating when its busy but theres a good sized smoking area outside with heaters and comfy outdoor sofas. Nice vibe outside with the fairy lights.

I've been going to the Friary regularly over the last 10 years, and its always been fine. A chilled pub with decent drinks and pub food, with the added perks of a beer garden and pool tables/air hockey. It's been great for quiet afternoon meet ups, pre drinks on big nights out, generally a safe bet all round.

We attended for a Friday lunch with a group of 12. We had booked before and told them we required wheel chair access. We were told that there was wheelchair access. On arriving we couldn’t find it and had to ask a staff member who showed us the way (lucky she did it’s hard to find) it up the side road thru a car park and thru the smokers area then thru the back of the building even the helpful staff member said it was a long way, it was also very bumpy in places too.

Me and my friend decided on here for a catch up and some food. She had her 5 month old daughter with her aswell. We found a table and I went first to order my food. I ordered a brunch burger. The girl behind the bar said they hadn't for bacon but they would happily add something else on so I asked for extra sausage Pattie. My friend then ordered a shroom burger. We sat chatting and realised it had been 50 minutes since I ordered. A girl behind the bar told a large party on a table near us they were sorry about the wait and some of them had to reorder as they had run out certain items on the menu. They had ordered just before us. Thinking she was going to speak to us next instead she walked off. I asked a member of staff behind the bar where our food order was and she was apologetic and said there would be a long wait. When I explained it was 50 minutes since I ordered she went to check. Another member of staff came back she said they have run out of items for the brunch burger so I could order something else. Then listed more items on the menu that weren't available. Gammon bacon poppadoms and meatballs. So I chose a chicken wrap instead. She gave us a free drink of diet coke each because of the wait. I then proceeded to ask for a free desert as not only was the food taking ages but there was hardly anything to choose from. To be told the chef had a breakdown and a team leader had gone off shift and was supposed to stock up is disgusting service. Eventually our food came. My friends shroom burger was supposed to have salad and salsa to it on a burger bun. It was what can only be described as chucked together in a bun without the other bits. Again mentioned this to a member of staff who was happy to take the meal and redo it or bring a salad on the side. We asked for the salad on the side. After 5 minutes the member of staff came back to inform us that there was no salad left. At this point I was fed up we also had a baby to think about. We are what we were given. Had the desert that I refused to pay for. There were no staff about when we were going to leave the whole place was a joke. We spent 3 hours in a place all because of their poor staffing and communication.

No he estado en el convento, en un tiempo, alrededor de un año, pero siempre estaba lleno así que ayer ya estaba soleado fuimos para el jardín de la cerveza y esperaba que fuera difícil conseguir una mesa, no estaba allí era cebada en cualquiera. Esto debería haber sido una señal de aviso. Sólo había un par) Nosotros (un grupo de 5 y otro par en todo el pub. Pero aún así tuvimos que esperar 40 minutos para que un pescado y un plato de patatas y tarta de carne y patatas fritas. La comida era horrible! El pescado estaba quemado y el guisantes blandos no saldríamos del pot, el pastel y las patatas fritas eran fríos. Estaba claro que habían dejado los platos a un tiempo, aunque el pub estaba prácticamente vacío. Nunca hubiera comida aquí.

Precioso edificio y limpio y el interior ordenado. Las dos primeras opciones de bebidas "tanto", apagado desde lunes 3 días, no es un buen comienzo. Televisores en todas las paredes mostrando el deporte y también la música a todo volumen, tienen uno o el otro, este no es para mí.

Tuvimos que esperar casi 50 minutos para nuestra comida. No es como la comida es cocinada desde cero! Incluso no tan lleno? ? ? Se quejaron al personal, que se disculpó. Nos ofrecieron algo de beber, pero no quiero. Yo quería mi dinero, pero el chico me hablaba de no ser visto, y para ser sincero, estábamos cansados de quejarnos en ese punto.

We Had a family get together of 12 for my dads 70th and chose this place as it was central to everybody meeting and was so glad we did ,food was excellent,staff were so accomadating and when not busy attentive to us making sure everything was ok ,was a bit hit with the family and have all said they would return again,never got chance to thank them as it got busy towards the late afternoon but they did an excellent job

Eran diferentes bebidas, así que era bastante preocupante. Era como si el limpiador de tubo no había sido llevado a través de correctamente.

The staff just cant be faulted. but the burgers were absolutely amazing. 2 for £7.50 so its such a good deal! We also had lemonade, and it was literally the nicest lemonade i have ever tasted.

Lovely building outside.We had visited the museums and the kids were tired and hungry.Saw this place and thought it looked like a good place to eat.On entering there were lots of students and a few older people.Only one family.Wasnt really a problem and they had lovely staff who welcomed us in and gave us a kids menu.The football was on and most people were there to watch that and have a few drinks.The food was really nice , good size portions , hot and presented well.Bit of a wait but not overly long.Great friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere.Great for a couple or group was not really for kids but we still felt relaxed here and enjoyed our meal.

Across the road from one of the Derby University buildings, so ideal for a quick lunch. Fairly cheap food, and a drink usually in a combined deal. Food is quite inconsistent in terms of what you get and presentation but 9 times out of 10 still nice. Pool tables are also a bonus as it gives us something else to do whilst on our lunch or break.

Getting bored of the pubs in derby and apart from The Greyhound (amazing place) this us our second local. Looks beautiful from the outside. Old building. Used to be a hotel. On the left of the building there's a nightclub and off putting signs saying "50% OFF DRINKS" Went in and all I could smell was bleach. The waitress looked bored hanging over the bar. Two lads were downing Jagerbombs at 1pm in the afternoon. Had a cheese and bacon burger and that wasn't nice at all. Burger was burnt all at the bottom! Chips were nice though. So all in all, me and my family will be sticking to The Greyhound.

Since the last time I visited this place has gone downhill, the pool cues were falling apart, the balls were all mismatched and the tables were in bad condition.To top it off the bar ran out of everything except fosters and Stella...

A group of us visited The Friary a few sunday's back and received awful service. The staff were incredibly rude, the food took an hour and fifteen minutes to arrive (even though the pub was empty). The food was unsatisfactory and our platter arrive on a drinks tray!However, after complaining to the manager, we were invited back for a free meal. We decided to go back and received a complimentary meal, drink and pudding! The staff this time were fantastic, very attentive. The food and puddings were good and we had an overall positive experience. I'm glad we decided to return as it turned out to be a good evening and we would probably even go back again.

Came for Sunday dinner today with my family around 1ish and ordered 4 soups for starters and 4 Sunday roasts. My sister was late so she ordered just a Sunday roast about 15 minutes after we did. After waiting over 45 minutes for our starters we asked the bar staff if our soup was nearly ready in which they replied "the chef has a lot on"... i could understand maybe slightly slower service than usual if the pub was busy, but there were only 3 other tables in besides ourselves and the two barmaids were just standing chatting around the bar. After nearly an hours wait my sister's main meal came before all of our starter's, even though she ordered 15 minutes later and didn't order a starter. I thought we would have had all of our main meals together? Obviously not. 5 minutes later, they brought our soup and our Sunday roast at the same time!! This meant not only was there little space on the table, but that by the time we had finished our soups, our roasts were cold! No common sense with the staff thinking we would be happy with two courses at once! My four family members all ordered beef however I ordered chicken.. the chicken came battered and still with legs and feet! I have never been anywhere for a Sunday dinner and had my chicken still with it's legs on, and definitely not battered! I could barely eat it as it was a) cold and b) mostly bone and batter... very unappealing to both look and and eat. Just before we left we went to the ladies, only to find one roll of toilet paper between around 10 toilets and all of the toilet seats up! Maybe the bar staff should have been making sure the facilities were up to standard before they stand around chatting! Very poor quality, would never recommend.
