Closed for good recently ! No great loss anyway.Toilets smelly and used by all kinds of undesirables.Drinks so cheap it attracted all the wrong crowd, cant handle their drink then causing triubke far too often.Shame is these will move on to another local and lower the tone there too if nothing is done prevention wise

Can not believe the price! Will be back and the service was great too. Could do with a lick of paint though but can not fault the place

Very clean. They are excellently following covid guidelines. The staff are always friendly and happy in their work. Nice atmosphere, will return.

Love a cold one after a town game. Thought I’d try out this place and where do I start. Carling was poor, venue was poor, staff was bang average.

On entering it was lively but the staff very soon got to taking our order (and the price was reasonable) will use again on our next visit. Nothing is to much trouble for the staff anf the local knowlage was very good

Pub no longer holds a license so no children, toilets are kept in a very poor condition, staff have a terrible attitude towards helping customers and there was glass everywhere. If I could give it a 0 I would.

Amazing prices, staff really friendly and efficient, pub could do with a spruce up but if you like a pint, great prices and watch all the sports the friary really is the place to be

We popped in here for a drink mid way through a hot day of shopping and was so pleasantly surprised with the range of drinks on offer- all for such a good price! The pub is so spacious and well decorated, we loved sitting out in the beer garden and the staff were so friendly.

Went in for some dinner from a busy shopping trip and was absolutely disgusted with the limited menu options we wanted proper food not snacks you guys have let yourself down it used to be nice but now it really has gone down hill you should be ashamed of yourselfs I will not be visiting again and would not recommend you to anybody.

Was in there today with a couple of friends to grab a quick lunch and a couple of beers before we set off on a lads stag do. The burgers we had were fantastic. I had the pulled pork burger with curly fries. It was HONESTLY - best burger I've had in ages! Staff were really helpful and friendly. Drinks were PROPER DEAD CHEAP! Bought a 5 drink round... Got change from a tenner! You can tell the regulars like the place. Plenty of banter between the staff and the customers

Went in there, toilet roll all over the floor (where people eat food). Paid a pound for the game of pool and a fiver deposit for the cues. Put money in the table and had no white ball. Asked bar guy for a white ball but apparently he doesn’t have any so he gave me a red one with pen drawn on it. What use is a red ball with pen on it????? Of course my friends and I being proper crap at pool we potted this ‘white’ ball instantly and of course it never came back. If you are going to let people play pool in your pub that is going to be as crap as this, you need to stop charging for a game, or at least give us a white ball. Didn’t even buy a pint in the pub was too mad.

I have been here now several times with service users from work however I would not attend out of personal choice. The locals that frequent this place continuously and loudly display rude and intrusive behaviour which for families would not be nice. I've only ever had good and friendly service from one staff member and have always had long waits for food. Plus side is that it is cheap and in the middle of the town centre.

Top pub. Very cheap prices. The local lads that drink in there on a regular basis are spot on proper liven the place up. Does need sky sports back though.

The breakfast was fab here yesterday. Me and my family were impressed plus there was unlimited tea & coffee. Definitely would go again.

Visited on a sunny Saturday afternoon,went to the bar and ordered 6 pints of carling... Was absolutely stunned when bar staff said "£10-50 please" amazingly the price for a pint was 1-75.. We asked how come and was to,d it was that price everyday until further notice..We regularly use the Friary and the price reduction is an added and welcome bonus to our visits to this decent town centre pub.

One star is too much but the least rating we could leave. Visited early afternoon before an appointment & Hubby had an all day breakfast, which looked like it had been cooked at breakfast time and kept under the grill. I had scampi, chips and peas and the only descent food was the peas. MASSIVLEY OVERCOOKED. Hash browns tasted of scampi so we know how they were cooked. Conveyor belt of ready cooked food we think is the best description.

My wife &i; called in for lunch on arriving which was about 1pm most of the tables still had dirty plates left on them we found a table with just a coupke of dirty glasses which was promptly taken away how ever the table was still dirty &sticky; buy whichtime a young kady was going round wiping them .we both decided to order the burgers &soft; drinks we waited approx 30 to 40 minutes for the food to arrive which was served up on a wooden board which had a piece of grease proof paper covering the board the board had many cut marks in the wood not very hygienic i wouldn't have thought the chips were nice &hot; how ever the burgers were only just warm which means they had been sat around for some time before arriving at our table normally most places ive been you are asked if everythings ok which i would have said some thing my wife asked for the condiments she was tokd there over there couldnt wait to leave

Town centre (pedestrian so no car park) bar / restaurant, multi screen, lots of loud drinkers. One insipid real ale, food (cod & chips and a burger) OK but not inspiring. Portions small although chips were good & hot. Generally down market. However the staff were commendable, reserved a good table for the two of us, brought food promptly and with a smile. Frankly I'd prefer Wetherspoons where the food is a little better and the beer too.

I went to order food at 20:15 hrs to order food to be told the chef had gone home. Surely there should have been a sign to notify customers that food was not available

We came here on our first ever visit to Grimsby with my partner and 7 Month year old child. The place wasn’t too busy and relatively clean for a bar that has a big turn over. We both decided on a Burger as they had a 2 for 1 deal on, I was very surprised at the deals they do much better than spoons. I ordered two burgers and two drinks for £12, which was great value for money!!

Came to the friary whilst out in Grimsby and found they did buy one get one free on burgers on Tuesdays so burgers were ordered and they came with only a 10 minute wait.great food well worth the visit as will be the return visit we are planning

Me and a group of friends were out for Halloween. We hadn’t been in the friary for years but thought we would pop in, so glad we did!!

Not been here for years so wanted to see what it was like. The food was all gorgeous and all homemade and was brought out fairly quickly and well presented. All the staff I encounter were all lovely and friendly. I would highly recommend

As a fairly regular user of this establishment on a lunch time I can say that it's a good central place to meet friends, the food is a reasonable price for town centre and the bottomless coffee pot a dream. Most staff are brill and their gammon is superb (the egg sometimes hard) but otherwise delish.

Always go when I'm out shopping with my Friend for breakfast,the staff very welcoming and cheerful very reasonable

The friary is a good pub to chill out and have a good pint or 2 or3 nice food and very good service staff are friendly and welcoming it's a nice relaxing atmosphere

Me and my friend popped in for a spot of lunch today. We seated ourselves on one of the tables and browsed the menu..the whole place although pretty clean felt a little dingy and dated..the food however was great..we both had a wrap and fries...

No soy un gran bebedor (médicas), pero a veces tienen un agradable pinta. Este pub es ideal para eso. Una selección bastante buena y como normalmente voy a media tarde después de trabajar es antes de la muchedumbre. Muy espacioso en su interior es una mezcla de clientes.

Although Grand National day,not too busy and we all got seated in rear beer garden.Two of us went to the bar for drinks for our group of 8.The wait was longer than usual despite not that many waiting.However after enjoying our first drink we were informed that the bar staff were asking for all glasses to returned that were empty as they were running out of glasses.Apparently 2 staff had rung in sick and 1 or 2 staff had "walked out" mid shift.Therefore being short staffed,no glasses were being collected/washed.We regularly use the friary and hope this was a one off let down ? Usually a solid place to go,will call in again with fingers crossed the usually high standards are back.

Popped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon with my partner, took a while to get served at the bar despite it not being overly busy. We had a lasagne and hunter's chicken between us, the food was brought to our table relatively quickly but it wasn't that nice. What really irked me is that we had been around town all morning doing research on mortgages and we had amassed quite a stack of leaflets and paperwork which I accidentally left on the table as we left the premises. I realised I'd left them about half an hour later, so I popped back in to see if they had been placed aside at the bar. The first woman I spoke to didn't really seem interested in helping and pawned me off onto somebody else, and the guy I then spoke to had a quick look in one of the bins behind the bar and said "not here mate, they'll probably be gone by now". Half an hour later?! I understand it was my fault in the first place for leaving them there, but you would think whoever cleared the table would see that there was quite a lot of documents there, and that there would be a chance that whoever left them would return to collect them. Not good enough, and what made it more annoying was that nobody really seemed to care. Asked to see the manager to see if they would know anything more, and just got told that "she's not in". Whatever. Save your money and go elsewhere, I certainly will be.

The staff are kind and welcoming. They are very positive, lovely food and drinks and was well priced.

Popped in last week for cocktails with the girls, we were all extremely impressed with the 2 for 1 offer and they tasted great. The staff were very helpful and we all really enjoyed it in here! Will definitely return.

Tv too loud especially when footy on we asked for it to be turned down slightly was told can't volume set so we finished our drinks and left

The staff are kind and welcoming. They are very positive and are customer focused.When I first visited I was new to Grimsby but I feel so welcome I keep popping back in for breaks and lunch. The atmosphere is warm and busy as the staff continually work to meet the needs of hungry customers and manage to retain the time to conscientiously help anyone or join in in any good humour. They gave me loads of good advice as to places to visit in Grimsby to have a good time and avoid rough areas.

I visited this very homely restaurant with my daughter, and we always get a very warm welcome. The barman Owen even went out of his way to provide a chicken nugget meal for my daughter, even though it's not an option on the menu. All the staff are great and the food is to high standards for very reasonable prices. 10/10 from me. :)

Went in with the kids yesterday to get out the cold. Got them all hot chocolates with marshmallows. The staff that served them up was great with the kids and made them feel very welcome!Fantastic visit

Went in to have tea with the folks... we settled on the friary cos it was a happy medium between where we usually go separately and it was really good. Menu was good, loads of choice. I had a toastie and my mum had lamb so loads to choose from. Also added bonus was student discount. Will def go back.

Visited with friends for lunch over Christmas! Wasn't disappointed! Food was nice and cooked perfectly! So we decided to stay for a few drinks! Service was great and very helpful! We will definitely be returning in the new year!

I had three children with me, one of them under two. I took them in so that my daughter could do a bit of Christmas shopping on her own for an hour. The staff was very helpful and sorted out the pushchair and brought a baby seat. I placed an order and the bar person delivered drinks to the table and helped me to undo the baby beaker which I found difficult because of arthritis in my wrists. The food was excellent, it arrived quickly, before the children became impatient, which is very important and the girl who brought the food to us came back to the table whilst we were eating, mopped up a spilled drink without being asked. She chatted to the two older children and congratulated them on their good behaviour. It was a very enjoyable experience.

I had a meeting here, decided to try the cooked breakfast. I was not disappointed. Great food at a very reasonable price. Came out in a very short time, lovely and hot, presented well. Also opted for the refill filter coffee, lovely touch and unlimited refills. Nice quality coffee too. The staff was very welcoming and attentive, all in all a great visit to a lovely pub.

Called in for drinks with 9 other family members.Service was friendly,efficient and top notch.Every visit we have made here had always been great.Ample seating for all and green card app a bonus.. Top service from Jordan,very good team member,happy in his role.

Food was what you'd expect from a pub.But my meal was served with one component of the meal that I'd specifically asked not to have with it when I ordered. The staff member taking my order actually went to check with the chef that this was possible (don't know why it wouldn't be) before putting it through the till so this was disappointing for such a simple request.And took a few attempts to get clean cutlery after putting a few dirty knives and forks back.

Me and my friend had a chicken wrap from here today the chicken was stone cold we got salad instead of chips they did change our salad to chips but only got 1 lot of chips... We sent meal back and waited for another one which was just horrible abd looked like the chips was just warmed up and the chicken was reheated.. Not the first bad meal we've had from there.. Would not recommend to anyone

Hard pressed to find two clean knives & forks.My burger was dried out; possibly microwaved up. Chips were card-board quality.My wife's chicken topped with mushroom and stilton sauce on a bed of mash was warm at best, She could hardly detect stilton.

Called in for a few drinks on our trip round town,good cold lagers on offer.Friendly staff,very efficient and helpful.They even carried some drinks outside to our tables.We were very pleased with the service and a bonus was the nice weather too.Would definitely return every time we are out.Plenty of outdoor seating,we were a group of 11 on this occasion.Reasonable drink prices and good selection of cocktail pitchers.Poor reviews on here seem very unfair,we have been regularly in last few years and never had cause for complaint

Went in here with my partner for a drink after shopping. Ended up ordering some unplanned meals. I had the fish goujon wrap with chips and my partner ordered gammon. This pub always feels unclean. Sticky tables, bits of old food on the chairs, the odd fly that just wont go away.The waiting time for food here is far too long - we waited 35 minutes for our food to arrive, and when I think back to previous visits over the years, it has always been the same. Obviously the manager doesn't care enough to sort it out. The food was just 'meh'. The fish goujons were limited, and the tortilla wrap was too big for the filling and not put together very well. Always walk away from here feeling very underwhelmed.. it's great for people watching though.. you get a few characters (to put it nicely!).

I had the steak fajitas. They came out on a sizzle plate... but without the sizzle. No noise no smoke nothing... just a warm plate and some stake. The wraps were crunchy around the edges.. a obvious sign they were stale. I took my mum for lunch and she had to send her chips back they were cold. I'd like to say it was very busy and staff were run off their feet but it wasn't the caseWhen ordering I was its a 25 minuet wait for food. I agreed but it arrived much sooner and cold. It's only a matter of time that someone is poorly with food that's served cold. It's unfortunate as the food there used to be lovely. The place is nice enough seems clean staff are friendly. We won't be back unfortunately it's left a sour taste in my mouth. I'd rather grab a Greggs from down the road at least it's hot

Went for a liverner and a quick bite to eat after a bit of shopping and it was well worth it - wasn't that busy but no matter all we wanted was some grub and a drink and they didn't disappoint - went for the triple stack burger and chicken wrap - not long waiting and gotta say its was the best burger iv had in a while very tasty - def gonna be back - the wrap im told was very nice as well

Family meal that a few people didn't want to attend because of Slimming World and diets but after finding out they did under 500kal meals, everyone attended!The meals were absolutely gorgeous and good portions, downside was meals came out with 5 minutes between each one

A well selected menu with all of the classic pub grub meals on it and also a few new trendy type meals. the beer selection is ok but nothing spectacular.Not bad for food and drink if you are passing but i wouldn't make a special journey for it.

Visited during our pub crawl on Grand National day,our group was 12 strong.We were served quickly and efficiently,great drinks selection,food smelt amazing,good tv coverage of racing and football results on numerous televisions.The bonus was that using my green card made the cost of a round of drinks extremely cheap.Well done Friary,we will return again & again

Cold chips and I mean cold on cold plates, burnt burger. Bread which was cold instead of toast? & just generally bad. Also a waitress adjusting her underwear through her trousers. Lovely. One good waitress.

Went to the friary after work to have a bite to eat before the gym, I had the bacon and cheese dog followed by the sticky toffee, all very filling, thanks to Dale the chef, and served by Jordan who was very friendly with guests and attentive, thanks to the both of you. Shall be back in to try the big breakfast :).Thanks guys :)

The Friary baby, the food was good, nice portions, warm, filling and tasty, just what you need when you've got a stinker of a hangover.Not a bad atmosphere, quite a mixed clientele, I'd recommend going here for a couple in the afternoon.The best part about it was the excellent barmaid, one of the soundest barmaids I've ever met, friendly, funny and attentive. Think her name was Danielle

Mine and my friends food was ok and only just ok. My friend ordered mac and cheese and this is what she got.... maybe a little bit more care into the food ????

Went for lunch today, my partner had a chilli cheese dog, meal wasn't bad but the hot dog was extremely chewy & had to be skinned to become edible.I myself had the Bombay burger which was surprising enjoyable but could of used more sauce and maybe spice up the burgers to coincide with the name. Bar staff was extremely pleasant & helpful.

We ate here today, it is a pub and does food at around the £6 - £10 mark. I had chicken with button mushrooms, with a stilton sauce (sounded lovely) and my wife had some kind of Mexican chicken thing. I have to say that my meal really wasn't good. I had 3 (yes a whole 3) button mushrooms - which I thought was on the tight side, the chicken was tough - and I had to saw through it (how do you make chicken breast tough?). My wife's Mexican came out and looked grey. The waitress said, that her dish should have been served on a sizzling platter - not sure that would have improved it - but it came on a white plate because they'd run out (that didn't make us feel very special). I have to say that the staff were friendly and as a pub it would have been a good place to have a drink, but neither of us would go back there to eat again. Yes it is cheap food, but there is cheap and then there is value for money. Sadly this was cheap, but neither of us felt that it was value for money.

A friend and myself have gone every week for the past few months for a lunchtime meal (in my 50 minute lunch break) a few weeks ago we waited 30 minutes for a meal and when we asked where our meal was, they had forgotten about us, today we went in just after 12.00pm order two meals, 20 mins later we asked where our meal was and was told we would get the meal in 10 mins, waited until 12.30pm still no meal and on speaking to the ladies on the next table they has been waiting nearly an hour for their meal (bangers and mash), we queried why so long to wait for a meal and was 1st told that they had too many orders but on looking round the pub it wasn't busy and then was told that there was only 1 cook on that day, he obviously couldn't cope, I asked why we weren't informed when we ordered the meal that there was a delay, which is good customer service but they didn't reply to the question, we asked for a refund which we received, we won't be going back.

Very good. This is a excellent chippy and they have excellent fish and chips and very good mushy peas and very good staff

Me and my partner took little legs for dinner. We ordered the mighty mixed grill, all day breakfast and kids burger and chips. Little legs wanted corn on yhr cob but they didnt have any. Thr sausages were all wrinkled and looked old, tasted old too! Staff were miserable and rude. If I was to list every thing wrong id be here all day. Food was awful very over priced and staff were rude. I will never go again! Would advise others to avoid too!

Visited on Sat 28th June,with 6 family members,celebrating an anniversary.The weather was brilliant so we opted to sit in rear garden area.Some live music was playing to add to our God day.I must mention the young guy behind the bar,everytime one of us went to buy a round he remembered the order and served us with speed,a smile and friendly chat.He was a credit to the place.Would definitely return on our next day out in town.Well done Friary !

Popped in for a quick drink at lunchtime and ordered lunch there as it looked good, coming out of the kitchen. Wasn't disappointed when it arrived.

My husband and I just happened to eat here as we did not know the area very well. We were looking for a small lunch so we decided that the 2 for £8 lunch would be fine. I was expecting small portions as it was a special but our plates were very full. The fish and chips were gorgeous. The only fault I have is that the cups of tea were brought out too early and was cold by the time our lunch came.

This place has a great menu with lots of selection, and a great drinks menu. The food is good value, not fantastic, but great for a cheap pub lunch.

We went here today place is dark and not very welcoming orderd 2 ultimate breackfasts bread was stale and food was cold and small in portion for the price ..to sum it up its a very very poor weatherspoons yak yak yak ....

Waited nearly hour for just chips. my friend order a chicken melt thing asked without sauce came with and the bread was like rubber absolutely disgusting

Called in The Friary today whilst out Christmas Shopping with some friends. What can I say! We ordered four meals, two came out a very long time before the first two. We had to remind them several times before the other two meals came out. One of the first of the meals had quite a large screw sitting as large as life in between the peas! When confronted by this revelation the waitress asked us where it had come from? A question we wanted the answer to as well! You tell us. Two of the meals had items missing which were displayed in writing on the menu, we has to ask for these. One of our party had sausage and chips, the sausages were not cooked through thoroughly, and a third had fish which again was not cooked through properly and had a very dark and curly hair inside. Although the meal with the screw was replaced, it had put us all off eating anything. We were then asked at the end of the meal if we'd enjoyed it? With four plates hardly touched I hardly think so. We were refunded for the meal with the added screw and offered a drink each but we didn't want to stay any longer. The staff didn't seem overly bothered about it. The whole experience was horrendous. Needless to say we will not be going there again!

We have eaten here in the past but on this visit we were very disappointed to say the least. We ordered two starters and two mains and a side if curly fries. The pub wasn't that busy and very few people seemed to be eating but we still had to wait around half hour for our food to come to the table.We was given the main course first followed shortly by our starters but the side order was forgotten about until we asked where it was. My stake was over cooked my partners food was "just ok" at no point was we asked if our meal was ok as the staff didn't seem that bothered either way.When the table next to us received their food the waiter didn't even know what they had ordered.I will definitely think twice before eating here again

pub grub ( I think ) order and wait and wait and wait very few staff to do a lot the manager seems not to care and the results are there to see , if theres more than 6 at the bar its a fight to get served by the 1 bar person the food we had was cold then we sent it back as a wrong order , they took the PART back leaving the burger to finish off its poor struggle for life then the chips did in the end arrive by that time we were ready to leave

One of the cleanest pubs in town,great food and tasty beers,sport on tv regularly and terrific outdoor seating and occasional outdoor entertainment too

Talk about up the game, first the drinks prices dropped dramatically and then they bring out a new menu with sizzling dishes. The staff haven't changed but they have always been welcoming. The food is fantastic, not your usual pub grub. Well worth a visit!
